Psalms 35
A Psalm of David.
Plead my cause (O LORD) with them that striue with mee: fight against them that fight against me.
GenevaA Psalme of Dauid. Pleade thou my cause, O Lord, with them that striue with me: fight thou against them, that fight against me.
לְ/דָוִ֨ד רִיבָ֣/ה יְ֭הוָה אֶת יְרִיבַ֑/י לְ֝חַ֗ם אֶת לֹֽחֲמָֽ/י
Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand vp for mine helpe.

הַחֲזֵ֣ק מָגֵ֣ן וְ/צִנָּ֑ה וְ֝/ק֗וּמָ/ה בְּ/עֶזְרָתִֽ/י
Draw out also the speare, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say vnto my soule, I am thy saluation.

וְ/הָ֘רֵ֤ק חֲנִ֣ית וּ֭/סְגֹר לִ/קְרַ֣את רֹדְפָ֑/י אֱמֹ֥ר לְ֝/נַפְשִׁ֗/י יְֽשֻׁעָתֵ֥/ךְ אָֽנִי
Let them be confounded and put to shame that seeke after my soule: let them be turned backe and brought to confusion, that deuise my hurt.

יֵבֹ֣שׁוּ וְ/יִכָּלְמוּ֮ מְבַקְשֵׁ֪י נַ֫פְשִׁ֥/י יִסֹּ֣גוּ אָח֣וֹר וְ/יַחְפְּר֑וּ חֹ֝שְׁבֵ֗י רָעָתִֽ/י
Let them be as chaffe before the wind: and let the Angel of the LORD chase them.
GenevaLet them be as chaffe before the winde, and let the Angel of the Lord scatter them.
יִֽהְי֗וּ כְּ/מֹ֥ץ לִ/פְנֵי ר֑וּחַ וּ/מַלְאַ֖ךְ יְהוָ֣ה דּוֹחֶֽה
Let their way be darke and slippery, and let the Angel of the LORD persecute them.
GenevaLet their way be darke and slipperie: and let the Angel of the Lord persecute them.
יְֽהִי דַרְכָּ֗/ם חֹ֥שֶׁךְ וַ/חֲלַקְלַקּ֑וֹת וּ/מַלְאַ֥ךְ יְ֝הוָ֗ה רֹדְפָֽ/ם
For without cause haue they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they haue digged for my soule.
GenevaFor without cause they haue hid the pit and their net for me: without cause haue they digged a pit for my soule.
כִּֽי חִנָּ֣ם טָֽמְנוּ לִ֭/י שַׁ֣חַת רִשְׁתָּ֑/ם חִ֝נָּ֗ם חָפְר֥וּ לְ/נַפְשִֽׁ/י
Let destruction come vpon him at vnawares, and let his net that hee hath hid, catch himselfe: into that very destruction let him fall.

תְּבוֹאֵ֣/הוּ שׁוֹאָה֮ לֹֽא יֵ֫דָ֥ע וְ/רִשְׁתּ֣/וֹ אֲשֶׁר טָמַ֣ן תִּלְכְּד֑/וֹ בְּ֝/שׁוֹאָ֗ה יִפָּל בָּֽ/הּ
And my soule shalbe ioyfull in the LORD: it shall reioyce in his saluation.
GenevaThen my soule shalbe ioyfull in the Lord: it shall reioyce in his saluation.
וְ֭/נַפְשִׁ/י תָּגִ֣יל בַּ/יהוָ֑ה תָּ֝שִׂישׂ בִּ/ישׁוּעָתֽ/וֹ
All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like vnto thee which deliuerest the poore from him that is too strong for him, yea the poore and the needy, from him that spoileth him?
GenevaAll my bones shall say, Lord, who is like vnto thee, which deliuerest the poore from him, that is too strong for him! yea, the poore and him that is in miserie, from him that spoyleth him!
כָּ֥ל עַצְמוֹתַ֨/י תֹּאמַרְנָה֮ יְהוָ֗ה מִ֥י כָ֫מ֥וֹ/ךָ מַצִּ֣יל עָ֭נִי מֵ/חָזָ֣ק מִמֶּ֑/נּוּ וְ/עָנִ֥י וְ֝/אֶבְי֗וֹן מִ/גֹּזְלֽ/וֹ
False witnesses did rise vp they layd to my charge things that I knew not.
GenevaCruell witnesses did rise vp: they asked of me things that I knewe not.
יְ֭קוּמוּ/ן עֵדֵ֣י חָמָ֑ס אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי יִשְׁאָלֽוּ/נִי
They rewarded mee euill for good, to the spoiling of my soule.
GenevaThey rewarded me euill for good, to haue spoyled my soule.
יְשַׁלְּמ֣וּ/נִי רָ֭עָה תַּ֥חַת טוֹבָ֗ה שְׁכ֣וֹל לְ/נַפְשִֽׁ/י
But as for me, when they were sicke, my clothing was sack-cloth: I humbled my soule with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine owne bosome.
GenevaYet I, when they were sicke, I was clothed with a sacke: I humbled my soule with fasting: and my praier was turned vpon my bosome.
וַ/אֲנִ֤י בַּ/חֲלוֹתָ֡/ם לְב֬וּשִׁ/י שָׂ֗ק עִנֵּ֣יתִי בַ/צּ֣וֹם נַפְשִׁ֑/י וּ֝/תְפִלָּתִ֗/י עַל חֵיקִ֥/י תָשֽׁוּב
I behaued my selfe as though he had bene my friend, or brother: I bowed downe heauily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
GenevaI behaued my selfe as to my friend, or as to my brother: I humbled my selfe, mourning as one that bewaileth his mother.
כְּ/רֵֽעַ כְּ/אָ֣ח לִ֭/י הִתְהַלָּ֑כְתִּי כַּ/אֲבֶל אֵ֝֗ם קֹדֵ֥ר שַׁחֽוֹתִי
But in mine aduersitie they reioyced, and gathered themselues together: yea, the abiects gathered themselues together against me, & I knew it not, they did teare me, and ceased not,
GenevaBut in mine aduersitie they reioyced, and gathered them selues together: the abiects assembled themselues against me, and knewe not: they tare me and ceased not,
וּ/בְ/צַלְעִ/י֮ שָׂמְח֪וּ וְֽ/נֶאֱ֫סָ֥פוּ נֶאֶסְפ֬וּ עָלַ֣/י נֵ֭כִים וְ/לֹ֣א יָדַ֑עְתִּי קָֽרְע֥וּ וְ/לֹא דָֽמּוּ
With hypocriticall mockers in feasts: they gnashed vpon mee with their teeth.
GenevaWith the false skoffers at bankets, gnashing their teeth against me.
בְּ֭/חַנְפֵי לַעֲגֵ֣י מָע֑וֹג חָרֹ֖ק עָלַ֣/י שִׁנֵּֽי/מוֹ
Lord, how long wilt thou looke on? rescue my soule from their destructions, my darling from the lyons.
GenevaLord, how long wilt thou beholde this? deliuer my soule from their tumult, euen my desolate soule from the lions.
אֲדֹנָ/י֮ כַּ/מָּ֪ה תִּ֫רְאֶ֥ה הָשִׁ֣יבָ/ה נַ֭פְשִׁ/י מִ/שֹּׁאֵי/הֶ֑ם מִ֝/כְּפִירִ֗ים יְחִידָתִֽ/י
I will giue thee thankes in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.
GenevaSo will I giue thee thankes in a great Congregation: I will praise thee among much people.
א֭וֹדְ/ךָ בְּ/קָהָ֣ל רָ֑ב בְּ/עַ֖ם עָצ֣וּם אֲהַֽלְלֶֽ/ךָּ
Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully, reioyce ouer me: neither let them winke with the eye, that hate me without a cause.
GenevaLet not them that are mine enemies, vniustly reioyce ouer mee, neyther let them winke with the eye, that hate mee without a cause.
אַֽל יִשְׂמְחוּ לִ֣/י אֹיְבַ֣/י שֶׁ֑קֶר שֹׂנְאַ֥/י חִ֝נָּ֗ם יִקְרְצוּ עָֽיִן
For they speake not peace: but they deuise deceitfull matters against them that are quiet in the land.
GenevaFor they speake not as friendes: but they imagine deceitfull woordes against the quiet of the lande.
כִּ֤י לֹ֥א שָׁל֗וֹם יְדַ֫בֵּ֥רוּ וְ/עַ֥ל רִגְעֵי אֶ֑רֶץ דִּבְרֵ֥י מִ֝רְמוֹת יַחֲשֹׁבֽוּ/ן
Yea they opened their mouth wide against me, and saide, Aha, Aha, our eye hath seene it.
GenevaAnd they gaped on mee with their mouthes, saying, Aha, aha, our eye hath seene.
וַ/יַּרְחִ֥יבוּ עָלַ֗/י פִּ֫י/הֶ֥ם אָ֭מְרוּ הֶאָ֣ח הֶאָ֑ח רָאֲתָ֥ה עֵינֵֽי/נוּ
This thou hast seene (O LORD) keepe not silence: O Lord be not farre from me.
GenevaThou hast seene it, O Lord: keepe not silence: be not farre from me, O Lord.
רָאִ֣יתָה יְ֭הוָה אַֽל תֶּחֱרַ֑שׁ אֲ֝דֹנָ֗/י אֲל תִּרְחַ֥ק מִמֶּֽ/נִּי
Stirre vp thy selfe and awake to my iudgement, euen vnto my cause, my God and my Lord.
GenevaArise and wake to my iudgement, euen to my cause, my God, and my Lord.
הָעִ֣ירָ/ה וְ֭/הָקִיצָ/ה לְ/מִשְׁפָּטִ֑/י אֱלֹהַ֖/י וַֽ/אדֹנָ֣/י לְ/רִיבִֽ/י
Iudge me O LORD my God, according to thy righteousnesse, and let them not reioyce ouer me.
GenevaIudge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousnesse, and let them not reioyce ouer mee.
שָׁפְטֵ֣/נִי כְ֭/צִדְקְ/ךָ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָ֗/י וְ/אַל יִשְׂמְחוּ לִֽ/י
Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we haue it: let them not say, We haue swallowed him vp.
GenevaLet them not say in their hearts, O our soule reioyce: neither let them say, We haue deuoured him.
אַל יֹאמְר֣וּ בְ֭/לִבָּ/ם הֶאָ֣ח נַפְשֵׁ֑/נוּ אַל יֹ֝אמְר֗וּ בִּֽלַּעֲנֽוּ/הוּ
Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together, that reioyce at mine hurt: let them bee cloathed with shame and dishonour, that magnifie themselues against me.
GenevaLet them bee confounded, and put to shame together, that reioyce at mine hurt: let them bee clothed with confusion and shame, that lift vp themselues against me.
יֵ֘בֹ֤שׁוּ וְ/יַחְפְּר֨וּ יַחְדָּו֮ שְׂמֵחֵ֪י רָעָ֫תִ֥/י יִֽלְבְּשׁוּ בֹ֥שֶׁת וּ/כְלִמָּ֑ה הַֽ/מַּגְדִּילִ֥ים עָלָֽ/י
Let them shoute for ioy, and bee glad that fauour my righteous cause: yea let them say continually, Let the LORD bee magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his seruant
GenevaBut let them be ioyful and glad, that loue my righteousnesse: yea, let them say alway, Let the Lord be magnified, which loueth the prosperitie of his seruant.
יָרֹ֣נּוּ וְ/יִשְׂמְחוּ֮ חֲפֵצֵ֪י צִ֫דְקִ֥/י וְ/יֹאמְר֣וּ תָ֭מִיד יִגְדַּ֣ל יְהוָ֑ה הֶ֝/חָפֵ֗ץ שְׁל֣וֹם עַבְדּֽ/וֹ
And my tongue shall speake of thy righteousnesse, and of thy praise all the day long.
GenevaAnd my tongue shall vtter thy righteousnesse, and thy praise euery day.
וּ֭/לְשׁוֹנִ/י תֶּהְגֶּ֣ה צִדְקֶ֑/ךָ כָּל הַ֝/יּוֹם תְּהִלָּתֶֽ/ךָ
