Chapter 4
Joshua 4
And it came to passe when all the people were cleane passed ouer Iordan, that the LORD spake vnto Ioshua, saying,
GenevaAnd when all the people were wholy gone ouer Iorden, (after the Lord had spoken vnto Ioshua, saying,
וַ/יְהִי֙ כַּ/אֲשֶׁר תַּ֣מּוּ כָל הַ/גּ֔וֹי לַ/עֲב֖וֹר אֶת הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֑ן וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ לֵ/אמֹֽר
Take you twelue men out of the people, out of euery tribe a man,
GenevaTake you twelue me out of the people, out of euery tribe a man,
קְח֤וּ לָ/כֶם֙ מִן הָ/עָ֔ם שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖ר אֲנָשִׁ֑ים אִישׁ אֶחָ֥ד אִישׁ אֶחָ֖ד מִ/שָּֽׁבֶט
And command you them, saying, Take you hence out of the mids of Iordan, out of the place where the Priests feet stood firme, twelue stones, and yee shal cary them ouer with you, and leaue them in the lodging place where you shall lodge this night.
GenevaAnd command you them, saying, Take you hence out of the middes of Iorden, out of the place where the Priestes stoode in a readinesse, twelue stones, which ye shall take away with you, and leaue them in the lodging where you shall lodge this night)
וְ/צַוּ֣וּ אוֹתָ/ם֮ לֵ/אמֹר֒ שְׂאֽוּ לָ/כֶ֨ם מִ/זֶּ֜ה מִ/תּ֣וֹךְ הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֗ן מִ/מַּצַּב֙ רַגְלֵ֣י הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֔ים הָכִ֖ין שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה אֲבָנִ֑ים וְ/הַעֲבַרְתֶּ֤ם אוֹתָ/ם֙ עִמָּ/כֶ֔ם וְ/הִנַּחְתֶּ֣ם אוֹתָ֔/ם בַּ/מָּל֕וֹן אֲשֶׁר תָּלִ֥ינוּ ב֖/וֹ הַ/לָּֽיְלָה
Then Ioshua called the twelue men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of euery tribe a man:

וַ/יִּקְרָ֣א יְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַ אֶל שְׁנֵ֤ים הֶֽ/עָשָׂר֙ אִ֔ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֵכִ֖ין מִ/בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אִישׁ אֶחָ֥ד אִישׁ אֶחָ֖ד מִ/שָּֽׁבֶט
And Ioshua said vnto them, Passe ouer before the Arke of the LORD your God into the mids of Iordan, and take ye vp euery man of you a stone vpon his shoulder, according vnto the number of the tribes of the children of Israel:
GenevaAnd Ioshua said vnto them, Go ouer before the Arke of the Lord your God, euen through the middes of Iorden, and take vp euery man of you a stone vpon his shoulder according vnto the nomber of the tribes of the children of Israel,
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר לָ/הֶם֙ יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ עִ֠בְרוּ לִ/פְנֵ֨י אֲר֧וֹן יְהוָ֛ה אֱלֹֽהֵי/כֶ֖ם אֶל תּ֣וֹךְ הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֑ן וְ/הָרִ֨ימוּ לָ/כֶ֜ם אִ֣ישׁ אֶ֤בֶן אַחַת֙ עַל שִׁכְמ֔/וֹ לְ/מִסְפַּ֖ר שִׁבְטֵ֥י בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
That this may be a signe among you, that when your children aske their fathers in time to come, saying, What meane you by these stones?
GenevaThat this may bee a signe among you, that whe your children shall aske their fathers in time to come, saying, What meane you by these stones?
לְמַ֗עַן תִּֽהְיֶ֛ה זֹ֥את א֖וֹת בְּ/קִרְבְּ/כֶ֑ם כִּֽי יִשְׁאָל֨וּ/ן בְּנֵי/כֶ֤ם מָחָר֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר מָ֛ה הָ/אֲבָנִ֥ים הָ/אֵ֖לֶּה לָ/כֶֽם
Then yee shall answere them, That the waters of Iordan were cut off before the Arke of the Couenant of the LORD, when it passed ouer Iordan, the waters of Iordan were cut off: and these stones shall bee for a memoriall vnto the children of Israel for euer.
GenevaThen ye may answere them, That the waters of Iorden were cut off before the Arke of the couenant of the Lord: for when it passed through Iorden, the waters of Iorden were cut off: therefore these stones are a memoriall vnto the children of Israel for euer.
וַ/אֲמַרְתֶּ֣ם לָ/הֶ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר נִכְרְת֜וּ מֵימֵ֤י הַ/יַּרְדֵּן֙ מִ/פְּנֵי֙ אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית יְהוָ֔ה בְּ/עָבְר/וֹ֙ בַּ/יַּרְדֵּ֔ן נִכְרְת֖וּ מֵ֣י הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֑ן וְ֠/הָיוּ הָ/אֲבָנִ֨ים הָ/אֵ֧לֶּה לְ/זִכָּר֛וֹן לִ/בְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַד עוֹלָֽם
And the children of Israel did so as Ioshua commanded, and tooke vp twelue stones out of the midst of Iordan, as the LORD spake vnto Ioshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and caried them ouer with them, vnto the place where they lodged, and laid them downe there.
GenevaThen ye children of Israel did euen so as Ioshua had commanded, and tooke vp twelue stones out of the mids of Iorden as ye Lord had said vnto Ioshua, according to the nomber of the tribes of the children of Israel, and caried them away with them vnto the lodging, and layd them down there.
וַ/יַּעֲשׂוּ כֵ֣ן בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵ֘ל כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֣ה יְהוֹשֻׁעַ֒ וַ/יִּשְׂא֡וּ שְׁתֵּֽי עֶשְׂרֵ֨ה אֲבָנִ֜ים מִ/תּ֣וֹךְ הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֗ן כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ לְ/מִסְפַּ֖ר שִׁבְטֵ֣י בְנֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַ/יַּעֲבִר֤וּ/ם עִמָּ/ם֙ אֶל הַ/מָּל֔וֹן וַ/יַּנִּח֖וּ/ם שָֽׁם
And Ioshua set vp twelue stones in the midst of Iordan, in the place where the feet of the Priests which bare the Arke of the Couenant, stood: and they are there vnto this day.
GenevaAnd Ioshua set vp twelue stones in the middes of Iorden, in the place where the feete of the Priests, which bare the Arke of the couenant stood, and there haue they continued vnto this day.
וּ/שְׁתֵּ֧ים עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה אֲבָנִ֗ים הֵקִ֣ים יְהוֹשֻׁעַ֮ בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הַ/יַּרְדֵּן֒ תַּ֗חַת מַצַּב֙ רַגְלֵ֣י הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֔ים נֹשְׂאֵ֖י אֲר֣וֹן הַ/בְּרִ֑ית וַ/יִּ֣הְיוּ שָׁ֔ם עַ֖ד הַ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/זֶּֽה
¶ For the Priests which bare the Arke, stood in the midst of Iordan, vntill euery thing was finished that the LORD commanded Ioshua to speake vnto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Ioshua: and the people hasted and passed ouer.
GenevaSo the Priests, which bare ye Arke, stoode in the middes of Iorden, vntill euery thing was finished that ye Lord had comanded Ioshua to say vnto the people, according to all that Moses charged Ioshua: then the people hasted and went ouer.
וְ/הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֞ים נֹשְׂאֵ֣י הָ/אָר֗וֹן עֹמְדִים֮ בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הַ/יַּרְדֵּן֒ עַ֣ד תֹּ֣ם כָּֽל הַ֠/דָּבָר אֲשֶׁר צִוָּ֨ה יְהוָ֤ה אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁ֨עַ֙ לְ/דַבֵּ֣ר אֶל הָ/עָ֔ם כְּ/כֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר צִוָּ֥ה מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ וַ/יְמַהֲר֥וּ הָ/עָ֖ם וַֽ/יַּעֲבֹֽרוּ
And it came to passe when all the people were cleane passed ouer, that the Arke of the LORD passed ouer, and the Priests in the presence of the people.
GenevaWhen all the people were cleane passed ouer, the Arke of the Lord went ouer also, and the Priests before the people.
וַ/יְהִ֛י כַּֽ/אֲשֶׁר תַּ֥ם כָּל הָ/עָ֖ם לַֽ/עֲב֑וֹר וַ/יַּעֲבֹ֧ר אֲרוֹן יְהוָ֛ה וְ/הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֖ים לִ/פְנֵ֥י הָ/עָֽם
And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and halfe the tribe of Manasseh, passed ouer armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spake vnto them:
GenevaAnd the sonnes of Reuben, and the sonnes of Gad, and halfe the tribe of Manasseh went ouer before the children of Israel armed, as Moses had charged them.
וַ֠/יַּעַבְרוּ בְּנֵי רְאוּבֵ֨ן וּ/בְנֵי גָ֜ד וַ/חֲצִ֨י שֵׁ֤בֶט הַֽ/מְנַשֶּׁה֙ חֲמֻשִׁ֔ים לִ/פְנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר אֲלֵי/הֶ֖ם מֹשֶֽׁה
About fourty thousand prepared for war, passed ouer before the LORD vnto battell, to the plaines of Iericho.
GenevaEuen fourty thousand prepared for warre, went before the Lord vnto battel, into ye plaine of Iericho.
כְּ/אַרְבָּעִ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף חֲלוּצֵ֣י הַ/צָּבָ֑א עָבְר֞וּ לִ/פְנֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֔ה אֶ֖ל עַֽרְב֥וֹת יְרִיחֽוֹ
¶ On that day the LORD magnified Ioshua in the sight of all Israel, and they feared him, as they feared Moses all the dayes of his life.
GenevaThat day the Lord magnified Ioshua in the sight of all Israel, and they feared him, as they feared Moses all dayes of his life.
בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֗וּא גִּדַּ֤ל יְהוָה֙ אֶת יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ בְּ/עֵינֵ֖י כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַ/יִּֽרְא֣וּ אֹת֔/וֹ כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֛ר יָרְא֥וּ אֶת מֹשֶׁ֖ה כָּל יְמֵ֥י חַיָּֽי/ו
And the LORD spake vnto Ioshua, saying,
GenevaAnd the Lord spake vnto Ioshua, saying,
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה אֶל יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ לֵ/אמֹֽר
Command the Priests that beare the Arke of the Testimony, that they come vp out of Iordan.
GenevaCommande the Priests that beare ye Arke of the testimonie, to come vp out of Iorden.
צַוֵּה֙ אֶת הַ/כֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים נֹשְׂאֵ֖י אֲר֣וֹן הָ/עֵד֑וּת וְ/יַעֲל֖וּ מִן הַ/יַּרְדֵּֽן
Ioshua therefore commaunded the Priests, saying, Come yee vp out of Iordan.
GenevaIoshua therefore commanded the Priests, saying, Come ye vp out of Iorden.
וַ/יְצַ֣ו יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ אֶת הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֖ים לֵ/אמֹ֑ר עֲל֖וּ מִן הַ/יַּרְדֵּֽן
And it came to passe when the Priests that bare the Arke of the Couenant of the LORD, were come vp out of the mids of Iordan, and the soles of the Priests feete were lift vp vnto the dry land, that the waters of Iordan returned vnto their place, and flowed ouer all his banks, as they did before.
GenevaAnd when the Priests that bare the Arke of the couenant of ye Lord were come vp out of the middes of Iorden, and assoone as the soles of the Priests feete were set on the dry land, the waters of Iorde returned vnto their place, and flowed ouer all the bankes thereof, as they did before.
וַ֠/יְהִי ב/עלות הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֜ים נֹשְׂאֵ֨י אֲר֤וֹן בְּרִית יְהוָה֙ מִ/תּ֣וֹךְ הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֔ן נִתְּק֗וּ כַּפּוֹת֙ רַגְלֵ֣י הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֔ים אֶ֖ל הֶ/חָרָבָ֑ה וַ/יָּשֻׁ֤בוּ מֵֽי הַ/יַּרְדֵּן֙ לִ/מְקוֹמָ֔/ם וַ/יֵּלְכ֥וּ כִ/תְמוֹל שִׁלְשׁ֖וֹם עַל כָּל גְּדוֹתָֽי/ו
¶ And the people came vp out of Iordan on the tenth day of the first moneth, and encamped in Gilgal, in the East border of Iericho.
GenevaSo the people came vp out of Iorden the tenth day of the first moneth, and pitched in Gilgal, in the Eastside of Iericho.
וְ/הָ/עָ֗ם עָלוּ֙ מִן הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֔ן בֶּ/עָשׂ֖וֹר לַ/חֹ֣דֶשׁ הָ/רִאשׁ֑וֹן וַֽ/יַּחֲנוּ֙ בַּ/גִּלְגָּ֔ל בִּ/קְצֵ֖ה מִזְרַ֥ח יְרִיחֽוֹ
And those twelue stones which they tooke out of Iordan, did Ioshua pitch in Gilgal.
GenevaAlso the twelue stones, which they tooke out of Iorden, did Ioshua pitch in Gilgal.
וְ/אֵת֩ שְׁתֵּ֨ים עֶשְׂרֵ֤ה הָֽ/אֲבָנִים֙ הָ/אֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָקְח֖וּ מִן הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֑ן הֵקִ֥ים יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בַּ/גִּלְגָּֽל
And he spake vnto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shal aske their fathers in time to come, saying, What meane these stones?
GenevaAnd he spake vnto ye childre of Israel, saying, When your children shall aske their fathers in time to come, and say, What meane these stones?
וַ/יֹּ֛אמֶר אֶל בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵ/אמֹ֑ר אֲשֶׁר֩ יִשְׁאָל֨וּ/ן בְּנֵי/כֶ֤ם מָחָר֙ אֶת אֲבוֹתָ֣/ם לֵ/אמֹ֔ר מָ֖ה הָ/אֲבָנִ֥ים הָ/אֵֽלֶּה
Then yee shall let your children know, saying, Israel came ouer this Iordan on dry land.
GenevaThen ye shall shew your children, and say, Israel came ouer this Iorden on dry land:
וְ/הוֹדַעְתֶּ֖ם אֶת בְּנֵי/כֶ֣ם לֵ/אמֹ֑ר בַּ/יַּבָּשָׁה֙ עָבַ֣ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֖ן הַ/זֶּֽה
For the LORD your God dried vp the waters of Iordan from before you, vntill yee were passed ouer, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which hee dried vp from before vs, vntill we were gone ouer:
GenevaFor the Lord your God dryed vp ye waters of Iorden before you, vntill ye were gone ouer, as the Lord your God did the red Sea, which hee dryed vp before vs, till we were gone ouer,
אֲשֶׁר הוֹבִישׁ֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֵי/כֶ֜ם אֶת מֵ֧י הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֛ן מִ/פְּנֵי/כֶ֖ם עַֽד עָבְרְ/כֶ֑ם כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂה֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֵי/כֶ֧ם לְ/יַם ס֛וּף אֲשֶׁר הוֹבִ֥ישׁ מִ/פָּנֵ֖י/נוּ עַד עָבְרֵֽ/נוּ
That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty, that ye might feare the LORD your God for euer.
GenevaThat all the people of the worlde may know that the hand of the Lord is mightie, that ye might feare the Lord your God continually.
לְ֠מַעַן דַּ֜עַת כָּל עַמֵּ֤י הָ/אָ֨רֶץ֙ אֶת יַ֣ד יְהוָ֔ה כִּ֥י חֲזָקָ֖ה הִ֑יא לְמַ֧עַן יְרָאתֶ֛ם אֶת יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵי/כֶ֖ם כָּל הַ/יָּמִֽים
