Chapter 17
Job 17
My breath is corrupt, my dayes are extinct, the graues are ready for me.
GenevaMy breath is corrupt: my dayes are cut off, and the graue is readie for me.
רוּחִ֣/י חֻ֭בָּלָה יָמַ֥/י נִזְעָ֗כוּ קְבָרִ֥ים לִֽ/י
Are there not mockers with mee? and doeth not mine eye continue in their prouocation?
GenevaThere are none but mockers with mee, and mine eye continueth in their bitternesse.
אִם לֹ֣א הֲ֭תֻלִים עִמָּדִ֑/י וּ֝/בְ/הַמְּרוֹתָ֗/ם תָּלַ֥ן עֵינִֽ/י
Lay downe now, put me in a suretie with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
GenevaLay downe nowe and put me in suretie for thee: who is hee, that will touch mine hand?
שִֽׂימָ/ה נָּ֭א עָרְבֵ֣/נִי עִמָּ֑/ךְ מִֽי ה֝֗וּא לְ/יָדִ֥/י יִתָּקֵֽעַ
For thou hast hid their heart from vnderstanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.
GenevaFor thou hast hid their heart from vnderstanding: therefore shalt thou not set them vp on hie.
כִּֽי לִ֭בָּ/ם צָפַ֣נְתָּ מִּ/שָּׂ֑כֶל עַל כֵּ֝֗ן לֹ֣א תְרֹמֵֽם
Hee that speaketh flattery to his friends, euen the eyes of his children shall faile.
GenevaFor the eyes of his children shall faile, that speaketh flattery to his friends.
לְ֭/חֵלֶק יַגִּ֣יד רֵעִ֑ים וְ/עֵינֵ֖י בָנָ֣י/ו תִּכְלֶֽנָה
He hath made me also a by-word of the people, and afore time I was as a tabret.
GenevaHee hath also made mee a byword of the people, and I am as a Tabret before them.
וְֽ֭/הִצִּגַ/נִי לִ/מְשֹׁ֣ל עַמִּ֑ים וְ/תֹ֖פֶת לְ/פָנִ֣ים אֶֽהְיֶֽה
Mine eye also is dimme by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.
GenevaMine eye therefore is dimme for griefe, and all my strength is like a shadowe.
וַ/תֵּ֣כַהּ מִ/כַּ֣עַשׂ עֵינִ֑/י וִֽ/יצֻרַ֖/י כַּ/צֵּ֣ל כֻּלָּֽ/ם
Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stirre vp himselfe against the hypocrite.
GenevaThe righteous shalbe astonied at this, and the innocent shalbe moued against ye hypocrite.
יָשֹׁ֣מּוּ יְשָׁרִ֣ים עַל זֹ֑את וְ֝/נָקִ֗י עַל חָנֵ֥ף יִתְעֹרָֽר
The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath cleane hands shalbe stronger, and stronger.
GenevaBut the righteous wil holde his way, and he whose hands are pure, shall increase his strength.
וְ/יֹאחֵ֣ז צַדִּ֣יק דַּרְכּ֑/וֹ וּֽ/טֳהָר יָ֝דַ֗יִם יֹסִ֥יף אֹֽמֶץ
But as for you all, doe you returne, and come now, for I cannot find one wise man among you.
GenevaAll you therefore turne you, and come nowe, and I shall not finde one wise among you.
וְֽ/אוּלָ֗ם כֻּלָּ֣/ם תָּ֭שֻׁבוּ וּ/בֹ֣אוּ נָ֑א וְ/לֹֽא אֶמְצָ֖א בָ/כֶ֣ם חָכָֽם
My dayes are past, my purposes are broken off, euen the thoughts of my heart:
GenevaMy dayes are past, mine enterprises are broken, and the thoughts of mine heart
יָמַ֣/י עָ֭בְרוּ זִמֹּתַ֣/י נִתְּק֑וּ מ֖וֹרָשֵׁ֣י לְבָבִֽ/י
They change the night into day: the light is short, because of darknes.
GenevaHaue changed the nyght for the day, and the light that approched, for darkenesse.
לַ֭יְלָה לְ/י֣וֹם יָשִׂ֑ימוּ א֝֗וֹר קָר֥וֹב מִ/פְּנֵי חֹֽשֶׁךְ
If I waite, the graue is mine house: I haue made my bedde in the darknesse.
GenevaThough I hope, yet the graue shall bee mine house, and I shall make my bed in the darke.
אִם אֲ֭קַוֶּה שְׁא֣וֹל בֵּיתִ֑/י בַּ֝/חֹ֗שֶׁךְ רִפַּ֥דְתִּי יְצוּעָֽ/י
I haue said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worme, Thou art my mother, and my sister.
GenevaI shall say to corruption, Thou art my father, and to the worme, Thou art my mother and my sister.
לַ/שַּׁ֣חַת קָ֭רָאתִי אָ֣בִ/י אָ֑תָּה אִמִּ֥/י וַ֝/אֲחֹתִ֗/י לָֽ/רִמָּֽה
And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
GenevaWhere is then now mine hope? or who shall consider the thing, that I hoped for?
וְ֭/אַיֵּה אֵפ֣וֹ תִקְוָתִ֑/י וְ֝/תִקְוָתִ֗/י מִ֣י יְשׁוּרֶֽ/נָּה
They shall goe downe to the barres of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
GenevaThey shall goe downe into the bottome of the pit: surely it shall lye together in the dust.
בַּדֵּ֣י שְׁאֹ֣ל תֵּרַ֑דְנָה אִם יַ֖חַד עַל עָפָ֣ר נָֽחַת
