GenevaBvt Iob answered, and said,
I haue heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
GenevaI haue oft times heard such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
Shall vaine words haue an ende? or what emboldeneth thee, that thou answerest?
GenevaShall there be none ende of wordes of winde? or what maketh thee bold so to answere?
I also could speake as yee doe: if your soule were in my soules stead, I could heape vp words against you, and shake mine head at you.
GenevaI could also speake as yee doe: (but woulde God your soule were in my soules stead) I could keepe you company in speaking, and could shake mine head at you,
But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the mouing of my lips should asswage your griefe.
GenevaBut I woulde strengthen you with my mouth, and the comfort of my lips should asswage your sorowe.
Though I speake, my griefe is not asswaged: and though I forbeare; what am I eased?
GenevaThough I speake, my sorow can not be asswaged: though I cease, what release haue I?
But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate al my companie.
GenevaBut now hee maketh mee wearie: O God, thou hast made all my congregation desolate,
And thou hast filled mee with wrinckles, which is a witnesse against me: and my leannesse rising vp in me, beareth witnesse to my face.
GenevaAnd hast made me full of wrinkles which is a witnesse thereof, and my leannes ryseth vp in me, testifying the same in my face.
He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth vpon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes vpon me.
GenevaHis wrath hath torne me, and hee hateth me, and gnasheth vpon mee with his teeth: mine enemie hath sharpened his eyes against me.
They haue gaped vpon me with their mouth, they haue smitten me vpon the cheeke reprochfully, they haue gathered themselues together against mee.
GenevaThey haue opened their mouthes vpon me, and smitten me on the cheeke in reproch; they gather themselues together against me.
God hath deliuered me to the vngodly, and turned me ouer into the hands of the wicked.
GenevaGod hath deliuered me to the vniust, and hath made mee to turne out of the way by the hands of the wicked.
I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my necke, and shaken me to pieces, and set me vp for his marke.
GenevaI was in welth, but he hath brought me to nought: he hath taken me by the necke, and beaten me, and set me as a marke for himselfe.
His archers compasse me round about, he cleaueth my reines asunder, and doeth not spare; he powreth out my gall vpon the ground.
GenevaHis archers compasse mee rounde about: he cutteth my reines, and doth not spare, and powreth my gall vpon the ground.
He breaketh me with breach vpon breach, he runneth vpon me like a giant.
GenevaHe hath broken me with one breaking vpon another, and runneth vpon me like a gyant.
I haue sowed sackcloth vpon my skin, and defiled my horne in the dust.
GenevaI haue sowed a sackcloth vpon my skinne, and haue abased mine horne vnto the dust.
My face is fowle with weeping, and on mine eye-lids is the shadow of death;
GenevaMy face is withered with weeping, and the shadow of death is vpon mine eyes,
Not for any iniustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
GenevaThough there be no wickednesse in mine hands, and my prayer be pure.
O earth couer not thou my blood, and let my cry haue no place.
GenevaO earth, couer not thou my blood, and let my crying finde no place.
Also now, behold my witnesse is in heauen, and my record is on high.
GenevaFor lo, now my witnesse is in the heauen, and my record is on hie.
My friends scorne me: but mine eye powreth out teares vnto God.
GenevaMy friends speake eloquently against me: but mine eye powreth out teares vnto God.
O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour.
GenevaOh that a man might pleade with God, as man with his neighbour!
When a few yeeres are come, then I shall goe the way whence I shall not returne.
GenevaFor the yeeres accounted come, and I shall go the way, whence I shall not returne.
