Job 15

Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

וַ֭/יַּעַן אֱלִיפַ֥ז הַֽ/תֵּימָנִ֗י וַ/יֹּאמַֽר

Should a wise man vtter vaine knowledge, and fill his belly with the East winde?

GenevaShal a wise man speake words of ye winde, and fill his bellie with the East winde?

הֶֽ/חָכָ֗ם יַעֲנֶ֥ה דַֽעַת ר֑וּחַ וִֽ/ימַלֵּ֖א קָדִ֣ים בִּטְנֽ/וֹ

Should hee reason with vnprofitable talke? or with speeches wherewith he can doe no good?

GenevaShall he dispute with wordes not comely? or with talke that is not profitable?

הוֹכֵ֣חַ בְּ֭/דָבָר לֹ֣א יִסְכּ֑וֹן וּ֝/מִלִּ֗ים לֹא יוֹעִ֥יל בָּֽ/ם

Yea thou castest off feare, and restrainest prayer before God.

GenevaSurely thou hast cast off feare, and restrainest prayer before God.

אַף אַ֭תָּה תָּפֵ֣ר יִרְאָ֑ה וְ/תִגְרַ֥ע שִׂ֝יחָ֗ה לִ/פְנֵי אֵֽל

For thy mouth vttereth thine iniquitie, and thou choosest the tongue of the craftie.

GenevaFor thy mouth declareth thine iniquitie, seeing thou hast chosen ye tongue of the crafty.

כִּ֤י יְאַלֵּ֣ף עֲוֺנְ/ךָ֣ פִ֑י/ךָ וְ֝/תִבְחַ֗ר לְשׁ֣וֹן עֲרוּמִֽים

Thine owne mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea thine owne lippes testifie against thee.

יַרְשִֽׁיעֲ/ךָ֣ פִ֣י/ךָ וְ/לֹא אָ֑נִי וּ֝/שְׂפָתֶ֗י/ךָ יַעֲנוּ בָֽ/ךְ

Art thou the first man that was borne? or wast thou made before the hilles?

GenevaArt thou the first man, that was borne? and wast thou made before the hils?

הֲ/רִאישׁ֣וֹן אָ֭דָם תִּוָּלֵ֑ד וְ/לִ/פְנֵ֖י גְבָע֣וֹת חוֹלָֽלְתָּ

Hast thou heard the secret of God? and doest thou restraine wisedome to thy selfe?

GenevaHast thou heard the secret counsell of God, and doest thou restraine wisedome to thee?

הַ/בְ/ס֣וֹד אֱל֣וֹהַ תִּשְׁמָ֑ע וְ/תִגְרַ֖ע אֵלֶ֣י/ךָ חָכְמָֽה

What knowest thou that we know not? what vnderstandest thou, which is not in vs?

GenevaWhat knowest thou that we knowe not? and vnderstandest that is not in vs?

מַה יָּ֭דַעְתָּ וְ/לֹ֣א נֵדָ֑ע תָּ֝בִ֗ין וְֽ/לֹא עִמָּ֥/נוּ הֽוּא

With vs are both the gray headed, and very aged men, much elder then thy father.

GenevaWith vs are both auncient and very aged men, farre older then thy father.

גַּם שָׂ֣ב גַּם יָשִׁ֣ישׁ בָּ֑/נוּ כַּבִּ֖יר מֵ/אָבִ֣י/ךָ יָמִֽים

Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?

GenevaSeeme the consolations of God small vnto thee? is this thing strange vnto thee?

הַ/מְעַ֣ט מִ֭מְּ/ךָ תַּנְחֻמ֣וֹת אֵ֑ל וְ֝/דָבָ֗ר לָ/אַ֥ט עִמָּֽ/ךְ

Why doeth thine heart carie thee away? and what doe thine eyes winke at,

GenevaWhy doeth thine heart take thee away, and what doe thine eyes meane,

מַה יִּקָּחֲ/ךָ֥ לִבֶּ֑/ךָ וּֽ/מַה יִּרְזְמ֥וּ/ן עֵינֶֽי/ךָ

That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words goe out of thy mouth?

GenevaThat thou answerest to God at thy pleasure, and bringest such wordes out of thy mouth?

כִּֽי תָשִׁ֣יב אֶל אֵ֣ל רוּחֶ֑/ךָ וְ/הֹצֵ֖אתָ מִ/פִּ֣י/ךָ מִלִּֽין

What is man, that he should be cleane? and he which is borne of a woman, that he should be righteous?

GenevaWhat is man, that he should be cleane? and he that is borne of woman, that he shoulde be iust?

מָֽה אֱנ֥וֹשׁ כִּֽי יִזְכֶּ֑ה וְ/כִֽי יִ֝צְדַּ֗ק יְל֣וּד אִשָּֽׁה

Beholde, he putteth no trust in his Saints, yea, the heauens are not cleane in his sight.

GenevaBeholde, he founde no stedfastnesse in his Saintes: yea, the heauens are not cleane in his sight.

הֵ֣ן ב/קדש/ו לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ין וְ֝/שָׁמַ֗יִם לֹא זַכּ֥וּ בְ/עֵינָֽי/ו

How much more abominable and filthie is man, which drinketh iniquitie like water?

GenevaHow much more is man abominable, and filthie, which drinketh iniquitie like water?

אַ֭ף כִּֽי נִתְעָ֥ב וְֽ/נֶאֱלָ֑ח אִישׁ שֹׁתֶ֖ה כַ/מַּ֣יִם עַוְלָֽה

I will shew thee, heare me, and that which I haue seene, I wil declare,

GenevaI will tell thee: heare me, and I will declare that which I haue seene:

אֲחַוְ/ךָ֥ שְֽׁמַֽע לִ֑/י וְ/זֶֽה חָ֝זִ֗יתִי וַ/אֲסַפֵּֽרָה

Which wise men haue tolde from their fathers, and haue not hid it:

GenevaWhich wise men haue tolde, as they haue heard of their fathers, and haue not kept it secret:

אֲשֶׁר חֲכָמִ֥ים יַגִּ֑ידוּ וְ/לֹ֥א כִֽ֝חֲד֗וּ מֵ/אֲבוֹתָֽ/ם

Unto whom alone the earth was giuen, and no stranger passed among them.

GenevaTo whome alone the land was giuen and no stranger passed through them.

לָ/הֶ֣ם לְ֭/בַדָּ/ם נִתְּנָ֣ה הָ/אָ֑רֶץ וְ/לֹא עָ֖בַר זָ֣ר בְּ/תוֹכָֽ/ם

The wicked man trauaileth with paine all his dayes, and the number of yeeres is hidden to the oppressour.

GenevaThe wicked man is continually as one that traueileth of childe, and the nomber of yeeres is hid from the tyrant.

כָּל יְמֵ֣י רָ֭שָׁע ה֣וּא מִתְחוֹלֵ֑ל וּ/מִסְפַּ֥ר שָׁ֝נִ֗ים נִצְפְּנ֥וּ לֶ/עָרִֽיץ

A dreadfull sound is in his eares; in prosperitie the destroyer shall come vpon him.

GenevaA sounde of feare is in his eares, and in his prosperitie the destroyer shall come vpon him.

קוֹל פְּחָדִ֥ים בְּ/אָזְנָ֑י/ו בַּ֝/שָּׁל֗וֹם שׁוֹדֵ֥ד יְבוֹאֶֽ/נּוּ

He beleeueth not that he shall returne out of darkenesse, and he is waited for, of the sword.

GenevaHe beleeueth not to returne out of darknesse: for he seeth the sworde before him.

לֹא יַאֲמִ֣ין שׁ֭וּב מִנִּי חֹ֑שֶׁךְ ו/צפו ה֣וּא אֱלֵי חָֽרֶב

He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkenes is ready at his hand.

GenevaHe wandreth to and from for bread where he may: he knoweth that the day of darkenesse is prepared at hande.

נֹ֘דֵ֤ד ה֣וּא לַ/לֶּ֣חֶם אַיֵּ֑ה יָדַ֓ע כִּֽי נָכ֖וֹן בְּ/יָד֣/וֹ יֽוֹם חֹֽשֶׁךְ

Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall preuaile against him, as a king ready to the battell.

GenevaAffliction and anguish shall make him afraide: they shall preuaile against him as a King readie to the battell.

יְֽ֭בַעֲתֻ/הוּ צַ֣ר וּ/מְצוּקָ֑ה תִּ֝תְקְפֵ֗/הוּ כְּ/מֶ֤לֶךְ עָתִ֬יד לַ/כִּידֽוֹר

For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himselfe against the Almightie.

GenevaFor he hath stretched out his hand against GOD, and made him selfe strong against the Almightie.

כִּֽי נָטָ֣ה אֶל אֵ֣ל יָד֑/וֹ וְ/אֶל שַׁ֝דַּ֗י יִתְגַּבָּֽר

He runneth vpon him, euen on his necke, vpon the thicke bosses of his bucklers:

GenevaTherefore God shall runne vpon him, euen vpon his necke, and against the most thicke part of his shielde.

יָר֣וּץ אֵלָ֣י/ו בְּ/צַוָּ֑אר בַּ֝/עֲבִ֗י גַּבֵּ֥י מָֽגִנָּֽי/ו

Because he couereth his face with his fatnesse, and maketh collops of fat on his flankes.

GenevaBecause he hath couered his face with his fatnesse, and hath colloppes in his flancke.

כִּֽי כִסָּ֣ה פָנָ֣י/ו בְּ/חֶלְבּ֑/וֹ וַ/יַּ֖עַשׂ פִּימָ֣ה עֲלֵי כָֽסֶל

And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heapes.

וַ/יִּשְׁכּ֤וֹן עָ֘רִ֤ים נִכְחָד֗וֹת בָּ֭תִּים לֹא יֵ֣שְׁבוּ לָ֑/מוֹ אֲשֶׁ֖ר הִתְעַתְּד֣וּ לְ/גַלִּֽים

He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof vpon the earth.

לֹֽא יֶ֭עְשַׁר וְ/לֹא יָק֣וּם חֵיל֑/וֹ וְ/לֹֽא יִטֶּ֖ה לָ/אָ֣רֶץ מִנְלָֽ/ם

He shall not depart out of darkenesse, the flame shall drie vp his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he goe away.

GenevaHe shall neuer depart out of darkenesse: the flame shall drie vp his branches, and he shall goe away with the breath of his mouth.

לֹֽא יָס֨וּר מִנִּי חֹ֗שֶׁךְ יֹֽ֭נַקְתּ/וֹ תְּיַבֵּ֣שׁ שַׁלְהָ֑בֶת וְ֝/יָס֗וּר בְּ/ר֣וּחַ פִּֽי/ו

Let not him that is deceiued, trust in vanitie: for vanitie shalbe his recompence.

GenevaHe beleeueth not that he erreth in vanitie: therefore vanitie shalbe his change.

אַל יַאֲמֵ֣ן ב/שו נִתְעָ֑ה כִּי שָׁ֝֗וְא תִּהְיֶ֥ה תְמוּרָתֽ/וֹ

It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not bee greene.

GenevaHis branch shall not be greene, but shall be cut off before his day.

בְּֽ/לֹא י֭וֹמ/וֹ תִּמָּלֵ֑א וְ֝/כִפָּת֗/וֹ לֹ֣א רַעֲנָֽנָה

He shal shake off his vnripe grape as the Uine, and shall cast off his flowre as the Oliue.

GenevaGod shall destroy him as the vine her sower grape, and shall cast him off, as the oliue doeth her flowre.

יַחְמֹ֣ס כַּ/גֶּ֣פֶן בִּסְר֑/וֹ וְ/יַשְׁלֵ֥ךְ כַּ֝/זַּ֗יִת נִצָּתֽ/וֹ

For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of briberie.

GenevaFor the congregation of the hypocrite shalbe desolate, and fire shall deuoure the houses of bribes.

כִּֽי עֲדַ֣ת חָנֵ֣ף גַּלְמ֑וּד וְ֝/אֵ֗שׁ אָכְלָ֥ה אָֽהֳלֵי שֹֽׁחַד

They conceiue mischiefe, and bring forth vanitie, and their belly prepareth deceit.

הָרֹ֣ה עָ֭מָל וְ/יָ֣לֹד אָ֑וֶן וּ֝/בִטְנָ֗/ם תָּכִ֥ין מִרְמָֽה
