Job 14

Man that is borne of a woman, is of few dayes, and full of trouble.

GenevaMan that is borne of woman, is of short continuance, and full of trouble.

אָ֭דָם יְל֣וּד אִשָּׁ֑ה קְצַ֥ר יָ֝מִ֗ים וּֽ/שְׂבַֽע רֹֽגֶז

Hee commeth forth like a flower, and is cut downe: he fleeth also, as a shaddow and continueth not.

GenevaHe shooteth foorth as a flowre, and is cut downe: he vanisheth also as a shadowe, and continueth not.

כְּ/צִ֣יץ יָ֭צָא וַ/יִּמָּ֑ל וַ/יִּבְרַ֥ח כַּ֝/צֵּ֗ל וְ/לֹ֣א יַעֲמֽוֹד

And doest thou open thine eies vpon such an one, and bringest me into iudgment with thee?

GenevaAnd yet thou openest thine eyes vpon such one, and causest me to enter into iudgement with thee.

אַף עַל זֶ֭ה פָּקַ֣חְתָּ עֵינֶ֑/ךָ וְ/אֹ֘תִ֤/י תָבִ֖יא בְ/מִשְׁפָּ֣ט עִמָּֽ/ךְ

Who can bring a cleane thing out of an vncleane? not one.

GenevaWho can bring a cleane thing out of filthinesse? there is not one.

מִֽי יִתֵּ֣ן טָ֭הוֹר מִ/טָּמֵ֗א לֹ֣א אֶחָֽד

Seeing his daies are determined, the number of his moneths are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot passe.

GenevaAre not his dayes determined? the nober of his moneths are with thee: thou hast appointed his boundes, which he can not passe.

אִ֥ם חֲרוּצִ֨ים יָמָ֗י/ו מִֽסְפַּר חֳדָשָׁ֥י/ו אִתָּ֑/ךְ חק/ו עָ֝שִׂ֗יתָ וְ/לֹ֣א יַעֲבֽוֹר

Turne from him that hee may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hircling, his day.

GenevaTurne from him that he may cease vntill his desired day, as an hyreling.

שְׁעֵ֣ה מֵ/עָלָ֣י/ו וְ/יֶחְדָּ֑ל עַד יִ֝רְצֶ֗ה כְּ/שָׂכִ֥יר יוֹמֽ/וֹ

For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut downe, that it will sprout againe, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

GenevaFor there is hope of a tree, if it bee cut downe, that it will yet sproute, and the branches thereof will not cease.

כִּ֤י יֵ֥שׁ לָ/עֵ֗ץ תִּ֫קְוָ֥ה אִֽם יִ֭כָּרֵת וְ/ע֣וֹד יַחֲלִ֑יף וְ֝/יֹֽנַקְתּ֗/וֹ לֹ֣א תֶחְדָּֽל

Though the roote thereof waxe old in the earth, and the stocke thereof die in the ground:

GenevaThough the roote of it waxe olde in the earth, and the stocke thereof be dead in ye ground,

אִם יַזְקִ֣ין בָּ/אָ֣רֶץ שָׁרְשׁ֑/וֹ וּ֝/בֶ/עָפָ֗ר יָמ֥וּת גִּזְעֽ/וֹ

Yet through the sent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughes like a plant.

GenevaYet by the sent of water it will bud, and bring foorth boughes like a plant.

מֵ/רֵ֣יחַ מַ֣יִם יַפְרִ֑חַ וְ/עָשָׂ֖ה קָצִ֣יר כְּמוֹ נָֽטַע

But man dyeth, and wasteth away; yea, man giueth vp the ghost, and where is hee?

GenevaBut man is sicke, and dyeth, and man perisheth, and where is he?

וְ/גֶ֣בֶר יָ֭מוּת וַֽ/יֶּחֱלָ֑שׁ וַ/יִּגְוַ֖ע אָדָ֣ם וְ/אַיּֽ/וֹ

As the waters faile from the sea, and the floud decayeth and dryeth vp:

GenevaAs the waters passe from the sea, and as the flood decayeth and dryeth vp,

אָֽזְלוּ מַ֭יִם מִנִּי יָ֑ם וְ֝/נָהָ֗ר יֶחֱרַ֥ב וְ/יָבֵֽשׁ

So man lyeth downe, and riseth not, till the heauens be no more, they shall not awake; nor bee raised out of their sleepe.

GenevaSo man sleepeth and riseth not: for hee shall not wake againe, nor be raised from his sleepe till the heauen be no more.

וְ/אִ֥ישׁ שָׁכַ֗ב וְֽ/לֹא יָ֫ק֥וּם עַד בִּלְתִּ֣י שָׁ֭מַיִם לֹ֣א יָקִ֑יצוּ וְ/לֹֽא יֵ֝עֹ֗רוּ מִ/שְּׁנָתָֽ/ם

O that thou wouldest hide mee in the graue, that thou wouldest keepe me secret, vntill thy wrath bee past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me.

GenevaOh that thou wouldest hide me in the graue, and keepe me secret, vntill thy wrath were past, and wouldest giue me terme, and remember me.

מִ֤י יִתֵּ֨ן בִּ/שְׁא֬וֹל תַּצְפִּנֵ֗/נִי תַּ֭סְתִּירֵ/נִי עַד שׁ֣וּב אַפֶּ֑/ךָ תָּ֤שִׁ֥ית לִ֖/י חֹ֣ק וְ/תִזְכְּרֵֽ/נִי

If a man die, shall he liue againe? All the dayes of my appointed time will I waite, till my change come.

GenevaIf a man die, shall he liue againe? All the dayes of mine appointed time will I waite, till my changing shall come.

אִם יָמ֥וּת גֶּ֗בֶר הֲ/יִ֫חְיֶ֥ה כָּל יְמֵ֣י צְבָאִ֣/י אֲיַחֵ֑ל עַד בּ֝֗וֹא חֲלִיפָתִֽ/י

Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt haue a desire to the worke of thine hands.

GenevaThou shalt call me, and I shall answere thee: thou louest the worke of thine own hands.

תִּ֭קְרָא וְ/אָנֹכִ֣י אֶֽעֱנֶ֑/ךָּ לְֽ/מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה יָדֶ֣י/ךָ תִכְסֹֽף

For nowe thou numbrest my steppes, doest thou not watch ouer my sinne?

GenevaBut nowe thou nombrest my steppes, and doest not delay my sinnes.

כִּֽי עַ֭תָּה צְעָדַ֣/י תִּסְפּ֑וֹר לֹֽא תִ֝שְׁמ֗וֹר עַל חַטָּאתִֽ/י

My transgression is sealed vp in a bagge, and thou sowest vp mine iniquitie.

GenevaMine iniquitie is sealed vp, as in a bagge, and thou addest vnto my wickednesse.

חָתֻ֣ם בִּ/צְר֣וֹר פִּשְׁעִ֑/י וַ֝/תִּטְפֹּ֗ל עַל עֲוֺנִֽ/י

And surely the mountaine falling commeth to nought: and the rocke is remoued out of his place.

GenevaAnd surely as the mountaine that falleth, commeth to nought, and the rocke that is remooued from his place:

וְ֭/אוּלָם הַר נוֹפֵ֣ל יִבּ֑וֹל וְ֝/צ֗וּר יֶעְתַּ֥ק מִ/מְּקֹמֽ/וֹ

The waters weare the stones, thou washest away the things which growe out of the dust of the earth, and thou destroyest the hope of man.

GenevaAs the water breaketh the stones, when thou ouerflowest the things which growe in the dust of ye earth: so thou destroyest ye hope of man.

אֲבָנִ֤ים שָׁ֥חֲקוּ מַ֗יִם תִּשְׁטֹֽף סְפִיחֶ֥י/הָ עֲפַר אָ֑רֶץ וְ/תִקְוַ֖ת אֱנ֣וֹשׁ הֶאֱבַֽדְתָּ

Thou preuailest for euer against him, and hee passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

GenevaThou preuailest alway against him, so that he passeth away: he changeth his face when thou castest him away.

תִּתְקְפֵ֣/הוּ לָ֭/נֶצַח וַֽ/יַּהֲלֹ֑ךְ מְשַׁנֶּ֥ה פָ֝נָ֗י/ו וַֽ/תְּשַׁלְּחֵֽ/הוּ

His sonnes come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought lowe, but he perceiueth it not of them.

GenevaAnd he knoweth not if his sonnes shall be honourable, neither shall he vnderstand concerning them, whether they shalbe of lowe degree,

יִכְבְּד֣וּ בָ֭נָי/ו וְ/לֹ֣א יֵדָ֑ע וְ֝/יִצְעֲר֗וּ וְֽ/לֹא יָבִ֥ין לָֽ/מוֹ

But his flesh vpon him shall haue paine, and his soule within him shall mourne.

GenevaBut while his flesh is vpon him, he shall be sorowfull, and while his soule is in him, it shall mourne.

אַךְ בְּ֭שָׂר/וֹ עָלָ֣י/ו יִכְאָ֑ב וְ֝/נַפְשׁ֗/וֹ עָלָ֥י/ו תֶּאֱבָֽל
