Isaiah 36
Nowe it came to passe in the fourteenth yeere of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came vp against all the defenced cities of Iudah, and tooke them.

וַ/יְהִ֡י בְּ/אַרְבַּע֩ עֶשְׂרֵ֨ה שָׁנָ֜ה לַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ חִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ עָלָ֞ה סַנְחֵרִ֤יב מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁוּר֙ עַ֣ל כָּל עָרֵ֧י יְהוּדָ֛ה הַ/בְּצֻר֖וֹת וַֽ/יִּתְפְּשֵֽׂ/ם
And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh, from Lachish to Ierusalem, vnto king Hezekiah, with a great armie: and he stood by the conduit of the vpper poole in the high way of the fullers field.
GenevaAnd the King of Asshur sent Rabshakeh from Lachish toward Ierusalem vnto King Hezekiah, with a great hoste, and he stood by ye conduite of the vpper poole in the path of the fullers fielde.
וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֣ח מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֣וּר אֶת רַב שָׁקֵ֨ה מִ/לָּכִ֧ישׁ יְרוּשָׁלְַ֛מָ/ה אֶל הַ/מֶּ֥לֶךְ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּ/חֵ֣יל כָּבֵ֑ד וַֽ/יַּעֲמֹ֗ד בִּ/תְעָלַת֙ הַ/בְּרֵכָ֣ה הָ/עֶלְיוֹנָ֔ה בִּ/מְסִלַּ֖ת שְׂדֵ֥ה כוֹבֵֽס
Then came forth vnto him Eliakim Hilkiahs sonne, which was ouer the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Ioah Asaphs sonne the Recorder.
GenevaThen came foorth vnto him Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah the steward of the house, and Shebna the chanceler, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder.
וַ/יֵּצֵ֥א אֵלָ֛י/ו אֶלְיָקִ֥ים בֶּן חִלְקִיָּ֖הוּ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל הַ/בָּ֑יִת וְ/שֶׁבְנָא֙ הַ/סֹּפֵ֔ר וְ/יוֹאָ֥ח בֶּן אָסָ֖ף הַ/מַּזְכִּֽיר
¶ And Rabshakeh sayd vnto them; Say yee now to Hezekiah; Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria; What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
GenevaAnd Rabshakeh sayde vnto them, Tell you Hezekiah, I pray you, Thus sayth the great King, the King of Asshur, What confidence is this, wherein thou trustest?
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵי/הֶם֙ רַב שָׁקֵ֔ה אִמְרוּ נָ֖א אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֑הוּ כֹּֽה אָמַ֞ר הַ/מֶּ֤לֶךְ הַ/גָּדוֹל֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר מָ֧ה הַ/בִּטָּח֛וֹן הַ/זֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּטָֽחְתָּ
I say, (sayest thou) (but they are but vaine words) I haue counsell and strength for warre: Now on whom doest thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
GenevaI say, Surely I haue eloquence, but counsell and strength are for the warre: on whom then doest thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
אָמַ֨רְתִּי֙ אַךְ דְּבַר שְׂפָתַ֔יִם עֵצָ֥ה וּ/גְבוּרָ֖ה לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֑ה עַתָּה֙ עַל מִ֣י בָטַ֔חְתָּ כִּ֥י מָרַ֖דְתָּ בִּֽ/י
Loe, thou trustest in the staffe of this broken reede, on Egypt; whereon if a man leane, it will goe into his hand and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
GenevaLoe, thou trustest in this broken staffe of reede on Egypt, whereupon if a man leane, it will goe into his hand, and pearce it: so is Pharaoh King of Egypt, vnto all that trust in him.
הִנֵּ֣ה בָטַ֡חְתָּ עַל מִשְׁעֶנֶת֩ הַ/קָּנֶ֨ה הָ/רָצ֤וּץ הַ/זֶּה֙ עַל מִצְרַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִסָּמֵ֥ךְ אִישׁ֙ עָלָ֔י/ו וּ/בָ֥א בְ/כַפּ֖/וֹ וּ/נְקָבָ֑/הּ כֵּ֚ן פַּרְעֹ֣ה מֶֽלֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם לְ/כָֽל הַ/בֹּטְחִ֖ים עָלָֽי/ו
But if thou say to me; We trust in the LORD our God: Is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and sayd to Iudah and to Ierusalem; Yee shall worship before this altar?
GenevaBut if thou say to me, We trust in the Lord our God. Is not that he, whose hie places and whose altars Hezekiah tooke downe, and said to Iudah and to Ierusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
וְ/כִי תֹאמַ֣ר אֵלַ֔/י אֶל יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖י/נוּ בָּטָ֑חְנוּ הֲ/לוֹא ה֗וּא אֲשֶׁ֨ר הֵסִ֤יר חִזְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ אֶת בָּמֹתָ֣י/ו וְ/אֶת מִזְבְּחֹתָ֔י/ו וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר לִֽ/יהוּדָה֙ וְ/לִ/יר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם לִ/פְנֵ֛י הַ/מִּזְבֵּ֥חַ הַ/זֶּ֖ה תִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוֽוּ
Now therefore giue pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will giue thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders vpon them.
GenevaNowe therefore giue hostages to my lorde the King of Asshur, and I wil giue thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders vpon them.
וְ/עַתָּה֙ הִתְעָ֣רֶב נָ֔א אֶת אֲדֹנִ֖/י הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֑וּר וְ/אֶתְּנָ֤ה לְ/ךָ֙ אַלְפַּ֣יִם סוּסִ֔ים אִם תּוּכַ֕ל לָ֥/תֶת לְ/ךָ֖ רֹכְבִ֥ים עֲלֵי/הֶֽם
How then wilt thou turne away the face of one captaine of the least of my masters seruants: and put thy trust on Egypt for charets and for horsemen?
GenevaFor howe canst thou despise any captaine of the least of my lordes seruants? and put thy trust on Egypt for charets and for horsemen?
וְ/אֵ֣יךְ תָּשִׁ֗יב אֵ֠ת פְּנֵ֨י פַחַ֥ת אַחַ֛ד עַבְדֵ֥י אֲדֹנִ֖/י הַ/קְטַנִּ֑ים וַ/תִּבְטַ֤ח לְ/ךָ֙ עַל מִצְרַ֔יִם לְ/רֶ֖כֶב וּ/לְ/פָרָשִֽׁים
And am I now come vp without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD sayd vnto me; Goe vp against this land and destroy it.
GenevaAnd am I now come vp without the Lord to this land to destroy it? The Lord sayd vnto me, Goe vp against this land and destroy it.
וְ/עַתָּה֙ הֲ/מִ/בַּלְעֲדֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה עָלִ֛יתִי עַל הָ/אָ֥רֶץ הַ/זֹּ֖את לְ/הַשְׁחִיתָ֑/הּ יְהוָה֙ אָמַ֣ר אֵלַ֔/י עֲלֵ֛ה אֶל הָ/אָ֥רֶץ הַ/זֹּ֖את וְ/הַשְׁחִיתָֽ/הּ
¶ Then sayd Eliakim and Shebna & Ioah vnto Rabshakeh; Speake, I pray thee, vnto thy seruants in the Syrian language; for we vnderstand it: and speake not to vs in the Iewes language, in the eares of the people that are on the wall.
GenevaThen sayd Eliakim and Shebna and Ioah vnto Rabshakeh, Speake, I pray thee, to thy seruants in the Aramites language, (for we vnderstand it) and talke not with vs in the Iewes tongue, in the audience of the people that are on the wall.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֶלְיָקִים֩ וְ/שֶׁבְנָ֨א וְ/יוֹאָ֜ח אֶל רַב שָׁקֵ֗ה דַּבֶּר נָ֤א אֶל עֲבָדֶ֨י/ךָ֙ אֲרָמִ֔ית כִּ֥י שֹׁמְעִ֖ים אֲנָ֑חְנוּ וְ/אַל תְּדַבֵּ֤ר אֵלֵ֨י/נוּ֙ יְהוּדִ֔ית בְּ/אָזְנֵ֣י הָ/עָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל הַ/חוֹמָֽה
¶ But Rabshakeh sayd; Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee, to speake these words? Hath he not sent me to the men that sit vpon the wall, that they may eate their owne dongue, and drinke their owne pisse with you?
GenevaThen said Rabshakeh, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee to speake these wordes, and not to the men that sit on the wall? that they may eate their owne doung, and drinke their owne pisse with you?
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר רַב שָׁקֵ֗ה הַ/אֶ֨ל אֲדֹנֶ֤י/ךָ וְ/אֵלֶ֨י/ךָ֙ שְׁלָחַ֣/נִי אֲדֹנִ֔/י לְ/דַבֵּ֖ר אֶת הַ/דְּבָרִ֣ים הָ/אֵ֑לֶּה הֲ/לֹ֣א עַל הָ/אֲנָשִׁ֗ים הַ/יֹּֽשְׁבִים֙ עַל הַ֣/חוֹמָ֔ה לֶ/אֱכֹ֣ל אֶת חראי/הם וְ/לִ/שְׁתּ֛וֹת אֶת שיני/הם עִמָּ/כֶֽם
Then Rabshakeh stood, and cryed with a loud voice in the Iewes language, and sayd; Heare ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
GenevaSo Rabshakeh stood, and cryed with a loude voyce in the Iewes language, and sayd, Heare the wordes of the great King, of the King of Asshur.
וַֽ/יַּעֲמֹד֙ רַב שָׁקֵ֔ה וַ/יִּקְרָ֥א בְ/קוֹל גָּד֖וֹל יְהוּדִ֑ית וַ/יֹּ֕אמֶר שִׁמְע֗וּ אֶת דִּבְרֵ֛י הַ/מֶּ֥לֶךְ הַ/גָּד֖וֹל מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר
Thus saith the king; Let not Hezekiah deceiue you, for he shall not be able to deliuer you.
GenevaThus saith the King, Let not Hezekiah deceiue you: for he shall not be able to deliuer you.
כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר הַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ אַל יַשִּׁ֥א לָ/כֶ֖ם חִזְקִיָּ֑הוּ כִּ֥י לֹֽא יוּכַ֖ל לְ/הַצִּ֥יל אֶתְ/כֶֽם
Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying; The LORD will surely deliuer vs: this citie shall not be deliuered into the hand of the King of Assyria.
GenevaNeither let Hezekiah make you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliuer vs: this citie shall not be giuen ouer into the hand of the King of Asshur.
וְ/אַל יַבְטַ֨ח אֶתְ/כֶ֤ם חִזְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ אֶל יְהוָ֣ה לֵ/אמֹ֔ר הַצֵּ֥ל יַצִּילֵ֖/נוּ יְהוָ֑ה לֹ֤א תִנָּתֵן֙ הָ/עִ֣יר הַ/זֹּ֔את בְּ/יַ֖ד מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר
Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus sayth the King of Assyria, Make an agreement with mee by a present, and come out to mee: and eate yee euery one of his vine, and euery one of his figgetree, and drinke yee euery one the waters of his owne cisterne:

אַֽל תִּשְׁמְע֖וּ אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֑הוּ כִּי֩ כֹ֨ה אָמַ֜ר הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֗וּר עֲשֽׂוּ אִתִּ֤/י בְרָכָה֙ וּ/צְא֣וּ אֵלַ֔/י וְ/אִכְל֤וּ אִישׁ גַּפְנ/וֹ֙ וְ/אִ֣ישׁ תְּאֵנָת֔/וֹ וּ/שְׁת֖וּ אִ֥ישׁ מֵי בוֹרֽ/וֹ
Until I come and take you away to a land like your owne land, a land of corne and wine, a land of bread and vineyards:
GenevaTill I come and bring you to a land like your owne land, euen a land of wheate, and wine, a land of bread and vineyardes,
עַד בֹּאִ֕/י וְ/לָקַחְתִּ֥י אֶתְ/כֶ֖ם אֶל אֶ֣רֶץ כְּ/אַרְצְ/כֶ֑ם אֶ֤רֶץ דָּגָן֙ וְ/תִיר֔וֹשׁ אֶ֥רֶץ לֶ֖חֶם וּ/כְרָמִֽים
Beware lest Hezekiah perswade you, saying; The LORD will deliuer vs. Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
GenevaLeast Hezekiah deceiue you, saying, The Lord wil deliuer vs. Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his land out of the hand of the King of Asshur?
פֶּן יַסִּ֨ית אֶתְ/כֶ֤ם חִזְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר יְהוָ֖ה יַצִּילֵ֑/נוּ הַ/הִצִּ֜ילוּ אֱלֹהֵ֤י הַ/גּוֹיִם֙ אִ֣ישׁ אֶת אַרְצ֔/וֹ מִ/יַּ֖ד מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר
Where are the gods of Hamath, and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharuaim? and haue they deliuered Samaria out of my hand?
GenevaWhere is the god of Hamath, and of Arpad? where is the god of Sepharuaim? or howe haue they deliuered Samaria out of mine hand?
אַיֵּ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י חֲמָת֙ וְ/אַרְפָּ֔ד אַיֵּ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י סְפַרְוָ֑יִם וְ/כִֽי הִצִּ֥ילוּ אֶת שֹׁמְר֖וֹן מִ/יָּדִֽ/י
Who are they amongst all the gods of these landes, that haue deliuered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliuer Ierusalem out of my hand?
GenevaWho is hee among all the gods of these lands, that hath deliuered their countrey out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliuer Ierusalem out of mine hand?
מִ֗י בְּ/כָל אֱלֹהֵ֤י הָֽ/אֲרָצוֹת֙ הָ/אֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁר הִצִּ֥ילוּ אֶת אַרְצָ֖/ם מִ/יָּדִ֑/י כִּֽי יַצִּ֧יל יְהוָ֛ה אֶת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם מִ/יָּדִֽ/י
But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the Kings commandement was, saying; Answere him not.
GenevaThen they kept silence, and answered him not a worde: for the Kings commandement was, saying, Answere him not.
וַֽ/יַּחֲרִ֔ישׁוּ וְ/לֹֽא עָנ֥וּ אֹת֖/וֹ דָּבָ֑ר כִּֽי מִצְוַ֨ת הַ/מֶּ֥לֶךְ הִ֛יא לֵ/אמֹ֖ר לֹ֥א תַעֲנֻֽ/הוּ
¶ Then came Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah, that was ouer the houshold, and Shebna the Scribe, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the Recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and tolde him the wordes of Rabshakeh.

וַ/יָּבֹ֣א אֶלְיָקִ֣ים בֶּן חִלְקִיָּ֣הוּ אֲשֶׁר עַל הַ֠/בַּיִת וְ/שֶׁבְנָ֨א הַ/סּוֹפֵ֜ר וְ/יוֹאָ֨ח בֶּן אָסָ֧ף הַ/מַּזְכִּ֛יר אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ קְרוּעֵ֣י בְגָדִ֑ים וַ/יַּגִּ֣ידוּ ל֔/וֹ אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֥י רַב שָׁקֵֽה
