Isaiah 37
And it came to passe when King Hezekiah heard it, that hee rent his clothes, and couered himselfe with sackecloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
GenevaAnd when the King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth and came into the House of the Lord.
וַ/יְהִ֗י כִּ/שְׁמֹ֨עַ֙ הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ חִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ וַ/יִּקְרַ֖ע אֶת בְּגָדָ֑י/ו וַ/יִּתְכַּ֣ס בַּ/שָּׂ֔ק וַ/יָּבֹ֖א בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה
And hee sent Eliakim, who was ouer the houshold, and Shebna the Scribe, and the Elders of the Priestes couered with sackecloth, vnto Isaiah the Prophet the sonne of Amoz.
GenevaAnd he sent Eliakim the stewarde of the house, aud Shebna the chanceller, with the Elders of the Priestes, clothed in sackcloth vnto Isaiah the Prophet, the sonne of Amoz.
וַ֠/יִּשְׁלַח אֶת אֶלְיָקִ֨ים אֲשֶׁר עַל הַ/בַּ֜יִת וְ/אֵ֣ת שֶׁבְנָ֣א הַ/סּוֹפֵ֗ר וְ/אֵת֙ זִקְנֵ֣י הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֔ים מִתְכַּסִּ֖ים בַּ/שַּׂקִּ֑ים אֶל יְשַֽׁעְיָ֥הוּ בֶן אָמ֖וֹץ הַ/נָּבִֽיא
And they sayd vnto him; Thus sayth Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemie: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring foorth.
GenevaAnd they sayd vnto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of tribulation and of rebuke and blasphemie: for the children are come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring foorth.
וַ/יֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗י/ו כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר חִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ יוֹם צָרָ֧ה וְ/תוֹכֵחָ֛ה וּ/נְאָצָ֖ה הַ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/זֶּ֑ה כִּ֣י בָ֤אוּ בָנִים֙ עַד מַשְׁבֵּ֔ר וְ/כֹ֥חַ אַ֖יִן לְ/לֵדָֽה
It may be the LORD thy God will heare the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproch the liuing God, and will reprooue the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift vp thy prayer for the remnant that is left.
GenevaIf so be the Lord thy God hath heard the wordes of Rabshakeh, whom the King of Asshur his master hath sent to raile on the liuing God, and to reproch him with wordes which the Lord thy God hath heard, then lift thou vp thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
אוּלַ֡י יִשְׁמַע֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜י/ךָ אֵ֣ת דִּבְרֵ֣י רַב שָׁקֵ֗ה אֲשֶׁר֩ שְׁלָח֨/וֹ מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֤וּר אֲדֹנָי/ו֙ לְ/חָרֵף֙ אֱלֹהִ֣ים חַ֔י וְ/הוֹכִ֨יחַ֙ בַּ/דְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁמַ֖ע יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑י/ךָ וְ/נָשָׂ֣אתָ תְפִלָּ֔ה בְּעַ֥ד הַ/שְּׁאֵרִ֖ית הַ/נִּמְצָאָֽה
So the seruants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

וַ/יָּבֹ֗אוּ עַבְדֵ֛י הַ/מֶּ֥לֶךְ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ אֶל יְשַׁעְיָֽהוּ
¶ And Isaiah sayd vnto them; Thus shall yee say vnto your master, Thus sayth the LORD, Be not afraid of the wordes that thou hast heard, wherewith the seruants of the king of Assyria haue blasphemed me.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵי/הֶם֙ יְשַֽׁעְיָ֔הוּ כֹּ֥ה תֹאמְר֖וּ/ן אֶל אֲדֹנֵי/כֶ֑ם כֹּ֣ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה אַל תִּירָא֙ מִ/פְּנֵ֤י הַ/דְּבָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֔עְתָּ אֲשֶׁ֧ר גִּדְּפ֛וּ נַעֲרֵ֥י מֶלֶךְ אַשּׁ֖וּר אוֹתִֽ/י
Behold, I will send a blast vpon him, and hee shall heare a rumour, and returne to his owne land, and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his owne land.

הִנְ/נִ֨י נוֹתֵ֥ן בּ/וֹ֙ ר֔וּחַ וְ/שָׁמַ֥ע שְׁמוּעָ֖ה וְ/שָׁ֣ב אֶל אַרְצ֑/וֹ וְ/הִפַּלְתִּ֥י/ו בַּ/חֶ֖רֶב בְּ/אַרְצֽ/וֹ
¶ So Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for hee had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

וַ/יָּ֨שָׁב֙ רַב שָׁקֵ֔ה וַ/יִּמְצָא֙ אֶת מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר נִלְחָ֖ם עַל לִבְנָ֑ה כִּ֣י שָׁמַ֔ע כִּ֥י נָסַ֖ע מִ/לָּכִֽישׁ
And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Hee is come foorth to make warre with thee: and when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying;

וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֗ע עַל תִּרְהָ֤קָה מֶֽלֶךְ כּוּשׁ֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר יָצָ֖א לְ/הִלָּחֵ֣ם אִתָּ֑/ךְ וַ/יִּשְׁמַע֙ וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֣ח מַלְאָכִ֔ים אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לֵ/אמֹֽר
Thus shall ye speake to Hezekiah King of Iudah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceiue thee, saying, Ierusalem shall not bee giuen into the hand of the king of Assyria.

כֹּ֣ה תֹאמְר֗וּ/ן אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֤הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ יְהוּדָה֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר אַל יַשִּֽׁאֲ/ךָ֣ אֱלֹהֶ֔י/ךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֛ה בּוֹטֵ֥חַ בּ֖/וֹ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר לֹ֤א תִנָּתֵן֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם בְּ/יַ֖ד מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria haue done to all lands by destroying them vtterly, and shalt thou be deliuered?
GenevaBeholde, thou hast heard what the Kings of Asshur haue done to all lands in destroying them, and shalt thou be deliuered?
הִנֵּ֣ה אַתָּ֣ה שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשׂ֜וּ מַלְכֵ֥י אַשּׁ֛וּר לְ/כָל הָ/אֲרָצ֖וֹת לְ/הַחֲרִימָ֑/ם וְ/אַתָּ֖ה תִּנָּצֵֽל
Haue the gods of the nations deliuered them which my fathers haue destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar?
GenevaHaue the gods of the nations deliuered them, which my fathers haue destroyed? as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, which were at Telassar?
הַ/הִצִּ֨ילוּ אוֹתָ֜/ם אֱלֹהֵ֤י הַ/גּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִשְׁחִ֣יתוּ אֲבוֹתַ֔/י אֶת גּוֹזָ֖ן וְ/אֶת חָרָ֑ן וְ/רֶ֥צֶף וּ/בְנֵי עֶ֖דֶן אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּ/תְלַשָּֽׂר
Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the citie of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah?

אַיֵּ֤ה מֶֽלֶךְ חֲמָת֙ וּ/מֶ֣לֶךְ אַרְפָּ֔ד וּ/מֶ֖לֶךְ לָעִ֣יר סְפַרְוָ֑יִם הֵנַ֖ע וְ/עִוָּֽה
¶ And Hezekiah receiued the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it, and Hezekiah went vp vnto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

וַ/יִּקַּ֨ח חִזְקִיָּ֧הוּ אֶת הַ/סְּפָרִ֛ים מִ/יַּ֥ד הַ/מַּלְאָכִ֖ים וַ/יִּקְרָאֵ֑/הוּ וַ/יַּ֨עַל֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וַ/יִּפְרְשֵׂ֥/הוּ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לִ/פְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה
And Hezekiah prayed vnto the LORD, saying,

וַ/יִּתְפַּלֵּל֙ חִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ אֶל יְהוָ֖ה לֵ/אמֹֽר
O LORD of hostes, God of Israel, that dwellest betweene the Cherubims, thou art the God, euen thou alone, of all the kingdomes of the earth, thou hast made heauen and earth.

יְהוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב הַ/כְּרֻבִ֔ים אַתָּה ה֤וּא הָֽ/אֱלֹהִים֙ לְ/בַדְּ/ךָ֔ לְ/כֹ֖ל מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הָ/אָ֑רֶץ אַתָּ֣ה עָשִׂ֔יתָ אֶת הַ/שָּׁמַ֖יִם וְ/אֶת הָ/אָֽרֶץ
Encline thine eare, O LORD, and heare, Open thine eyes, O LORD, and see, and heare all the wordes of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproch the liuing God.

הַטֵּ֨ה יְהוָ֤ה אָזְנְ/ךָ֙ וּֽ/שְׁמָ֔ע פְּקַ֧ח יְהוָ֛ה עֵינֶ֖/ךָ וּ/רְאֵ֑ה וּ/שְׁמַ֗ע אֵ֚ת כָּל דִּבְרֵ֣י סַנְחֵרִ֔יב אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁלַ֔ח לְ/חָרֵ֖ף אֱלֹהִ֥ים חָֽי
Of a trueth, LORD, the kings of Assyria haue laid waste all the nations and their countreys,
GenevaTrueth it is, O Lord, that the Kings of Asshur haue destroyed all lands, and their countrey,
אָמְנָ֖ם יְהוָ֑ה הֶחֱרִ֜יבוּ מַלְכֵ֥י אַשּׁ֛וּר אֶת כָּל הָ/אֲרָצ֖וֹת וְ/אֶת אַרְצָֽ/ם
And haue cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of mens hands, wood and stone: therfore they haue destroyed them.

וְ/נָתֹ֥ן אֶת אֱלֹהֵי/הֶ֖ם בָּ/אֵ֑שׁ כִּי֩ לֹ֨א אֱלֹהִ֜ים הֵ֗מָּה כִּ֣י אִם מַעֲשֵׂ֧ה יְדֵֽי אָדָ֛ם עֵ֥ץ וָ/אֶ֖בֶן וַֽ/יְאַבְּדֽוּ/ם
Now therefore, O LORD our God, saue vs from his hand, that all the kingdomes of the earth may knowe, that thou art the LORD, euen thou onely.

וְ/עַתָּה֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔י/נוּ הוֹשִׁיעֵ֖/נוּ מִ/יָד֑/וֹ וְ/יֵֽדְעוּ֙ כָּל מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הָ/אָ֔רֶץ כִּֽי אַתָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה לְ/בַדֶּֽ/ךָ
¶ Then Isaiah the sonne of Amoz sent vnto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Wheras thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:

וַ/יִּשְׁלַח֙ יְשַֽׁעְיָ֣הוּ בֶן אָמ֔וֹץ אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר כֹּֽה אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ הִתְפַּלַּ֣לְתָּ אֵלַ֔/י אֶל סַנְחֵרִ֖יב מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר
This is the worde which the LORD hath spoken concerning him: The virgin, the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne, the daughter of Ierusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

זֶ֣ה הַ/דָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה עָלָ֑י/ו בָּזָ֨ה לְ/ךָ֜ לָעֲגָ֣ה לְ/ךָ֗ בְּתוּלַת֙ בַּת צִיּ֔וֹן אַחֲרֶ֨י/ךָ֙ רֹ֣אשׁ הֵנִ֔יעָה בַּ֖ת יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
Whom hast thou reproched and blasphemed? and against whome hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted vp thine eyes on high? euen against the Holy One of Israel.

אֶת מִ֤י חֵרַ֨פְתָּ֙ וְ/גִדַּ֔פְתָּ וְ/עַל מִ֖י הֲרִימ֣וֹתָה קּ֑וֹל וַ/תִּשָּׂ֥א מָר֛וֹם עֵינֶ֖י/ךָ אֶל קְד֥וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
By thy seruants hast thou reproched the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my charets am I come vp to the height of the mountaines, to the sides of Lebanon, and I wil cut downe the tall cedars thereof, and the choise firre trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forrest of his Carmel.

בְּ/יַ֣ד עֲבָדֶי/ךָ֮ חֵרַ֣פְתָּ אֲדֹנָ/י֒ וַ/תֹּ֗אמֶר בְּ/רֹ֥ב רִכְבִּ֛/י אֲנִ֥י עָלִ֛יתִי מְר֥וֹם הָרִ֖ים יַרְכְּתֵ֣י לְבָנ֑וֹן וְ/אֶכְרֹ֞ת קוֹמַ֤ת אֲרָזָי/ו֙ מִבְחַ֣ר בְּרֹשָׁ֔י/ו וְ/אָבוֹא֙ מְר֣וֹם קִצּ֔/וֹ יַ֖עַר כַּרְמִלּֽ/וֹ
I haue digged and drunke water, and with the sole of my feete haue I dried vp all the riuers of the besieged places.
GenevaI haue digged and drunke the waters, and with the plant of my feete haue I dryed all the riuers closed in.
אֲנִ֥י קַ֖רְתִּי וְ/שָׁתִ֣יתִי מָ֑יִם וְ/אַחְרִב֙ בְּ/כַף פְּעָמַ֔/י כֹּ֖ל יְאֹרֵ֥י מָצֽוֹר
Hast thou not heard long agoe, how I haue done it, and of ancient times, that I haue formed it? now haue I brought it to passe, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heapes.
GenevaHast thou not heard howe I haue of olde time made it, and haue formed it long ago? and should I now bring it, that it should be destroyed, and layde on ruinous heapes, as cities defensed?
הֲ/לֽוֹא שָׁמַ֤עְתָּ לְ/מֵֽ/רָחוֹק֙ אוֹתָ֣/הּ עָשִׂ֔יתִי מִ֥/ימֵי קֶ֖דֶם וִ/יצַרְתִּ֑י/הָ עַתָּ֣ה הֲבֵאתִ֔י/הָ וּ/תְהִ֗י לְ/הַשְׁא֛וֹת גַּלִּ֥ים נִצִּ֖ים עָרִ֥ים בְּצֻרֽוֹת
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grasse of the field, and as the greene herbe, as the grasse on the house tops, and as corne blasted before it be growen vp.
GenevaWhose inhabitants haue small power, and are afrayd and confounded: they are like the grasse of the field and greene herbe, or grasse on the house tops, or corne blassed afore it be growen.
וְ/יֹֽשְׁבֵי/הֶן֙ קִצְרֵי יָ֔ד חַ֖תּוּ וָ/בֹ֑שׁוּ הָי֞וּ עֵ֤שֶׂב שָׂדֶה֙ וִ֣/ירַק דֶּ֔שֶׁא חֲצִ֣יר גַּגּ֔וֹת וּ/שְׁדֵמָ֖ה לִ/פְנֵ֥י קָמָֽה
But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy comming in, and thy rage against me.
GenevaBut I know thy dwelling, and thy going out, and thy comming in, and thy fury against me.
וְ/שִׁבְתְּ/ךָ֛ וְ/צֵאתְ/ךָ֥ וּ/בוֹאֲ/ךָ֖ יָדָ֑עְתִּי וְ/אֵ֖ת הִֽתְרַגֶּזְ/ךָ֥ אֵלָֽ/י
Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult is come vp into mine eares: therefore will I put my hooke in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turne thee backe by the way by which thou camest.
GenevaBecause thou ragest against me, and thy tumult is come vnto mine eares, therefore will I put mine hooke in thy nostrels, and my bridle in thy lips, and wil bring thee backe againe the same way thou camest.
יַ֚עַן הִתְרַגֶּזְ/ךָ֣ אֵלַ֔/י וְ/שַׁאֲנַנְ/ךָ֖ עָלָ֣ה בְ/אָזְנָ֑/י וְ/שַׂמְתִּ֨י חַחִ֜/י בְּ/אַפֶּ֗/ךָ וּ/מִתְגִּ/י֙ בִּ/שְׂפָתֶ֔י/ךָ וַ/הֲשִׁ֣יבֹתִ֔י/ךָ בַּ/דֶּ֖רֶךְ אֲשֶׁר בָּ֥אתָ בָּֽ/הּ
And this shall be a signe vnto thee, Ye shall eate this yeere such as groweth of it felfe: and the second yeere that which springeth of the same: and in the third yeere sow ye and reape, and plant vineyards, and eate the fruit thereof.
GenevaAnd this shalbe a signe vnto thee, O Hezekiah, Thou shalt eate this yeere such as groweth of it selfe: and the second yeere, such things as growe without sowing: and in the third yeere, sowe ye and reape, and plant vineyards, and eate the fruite thereof.
וְ/זֶה לְּ/ךָ֣ הָ/א֔וֹת אָכ֤וֹל הַ/שָּׁנָה֙ סָפִ֔יחַ וּ/בַ/שָּׁנָ֥ה הַ/שֵּׁנִ֖ית שָׁחִ֑יס וּ/בַ/שָּׁנָ֣ה הַ/שְּׁלִישִׁ֗ית זִרְע֧וּ וְ/קִצְר֛וּ וְ/נִטְע֥וּ כְרָמִ֖ים ו/אכול פִרְיָֽ/ם
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Iudah, shal againe take roote downeward, and beare fruite vpward.

וְ/יָ֨סְפָ֜ה פְּלֵיטַ֧ת בֵּית יְהוּדָ֛ה הַ/נִּשְׁאָרָ֖ה שֹׁ֣רֶשׁ לְ/מָ֑טָּה וְ/עָשָׂ֥ה פְרִ֖י לְ/מָֽעְלָ/ה
For out of Ierusalem shall goe forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeale of the LORD of hostes shall doe this.

כִּ֤י מִ/ירֽוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ תֵּצֵ֣א שְׁאֵרִ֔ית וּ/פְלֵיטָ֖ה מֵ/הַ֣ר צִיּ֑וֹן קִנְאַ֛ת יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת תַּֽעֲשֶׂה זֹּֽאת
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this citie, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a banke against it.
GenevaTherefore thus sayth the Lord, concerning the King of Asshur, He shall not enter into this citie, nor shoote an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a mount against it.
לָ/כֵ֗ן כֹּֽה אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֶל מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר לֹ֤א יָבוֹא֙ אֶל הָ/עִ֣יר הַ/זֹּ֔את וְ/לֹֽא יוֹרֶ֥ה שָׁ֖ם חֵ֑ץ וְ/לֹֽא יְקַדְּמֶ֣/נָּה מָגֵ֔ן וְ/לֹֽא יִשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ עֳלֶ֖י/הָ סֹלְלָֽה
By the way that he came, by the same shall he returne, and shall not come into this citie, saith the LORD.
