2 Chronicles 32
After these things and the establishment therof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entred into Iudah, & encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to winne them for himselfe.
GenevaAfter these things faithfully described, Saneherib King of Asshur came and entred into Iudah, and besieged the strong cities, and thought to winne them for him selfe.
אַחֲרֵ֨י הַ/דְּבָרִ֤ים וְ/הָ/אֱמֶת֙ הָ/אֵ֔לֶּה בָּ֖א סַנְחֵרִ֣יב מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֑וּר וַ/יָּבֹ֣א בִֽ/יהוּדָ֗ה וַ/יִּ֨חַן֙ עַל הֶ/עָרִ֣ים הַ/בְּצֻר֔וֹת וַ/יֹּ֖אמֶר לְ/בִקְעָ֥/ם אֵלָֽי/ו
And when Hezekiah sawe that Sennacherib was come, and that hee was purposed to fight against Ierusalem,

וַ/יַּרְא֙ יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ כִּי בָ֖א סַנְחֵרִ֑יב וּ/פָנָ֕י/ו לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֖ה עַל יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
He tooke counsel with his princes, and his mightie men, to stop the waters of the fountaines, which were without the citie: and they did helpe him.
GenevaThen he tooke counsell with his princes and his nobles, to stoppe the water of the fountaines without the citie: and they did helpe him.
וַ/יִּוָּעַ֗ץ עִם שָׂרָי/ו֙ וְ/גִבֹּרָ֔י/ו לִ/סְתּוֹם֙ אֶת מֵימֵ֣י הָ/עֲיָנ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֖ר מִ/ח֣וּץ לָ/עִ֑יר וַֽ/יַּעְזְרֽוּ/הוּ
So there was gathered much people together, who stopt all the fountaines, and the brooke that ranne through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and finde much water?
GenevaSo many of the people assembled themselues, and stopt all the fountaines, and the riuer that ranne through the middes of the countrey, saying, Why should the Kings of Asshur come, and finde much water?
וַ/יִּקָּבְצ֣וּ עַם רָ֔ב וַֽ/יִּסְתְּמוּ֙ אֶת כָּל הַ/מַּעְיָנ֔וֹת וְ/אֶת הַ/נַּ֛חַל הַ/שּׁוֹטֵ֥ף בְּ/תוֹךְ הָ/אָ֖רֶץ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר לָ֤/מָּה יָב֨וֹאוּ֙ מַלְכֵ֣י אַשּׁ֔וּר וּ/מָצְא֖וּ מַ֥יִם רַבִּֽים
Also he strengthened himselfe, and built vp all the wall that was broken, and raised it vp to the towers, and another wall without, and prepared Millo in the citie of Dauid, and made darts and shields in abundance.
GenevaAnd he tooke courage, and built all the broken wall, and made vp the towers, and another wall without, and repayred Millo in the citie of Dauid, and made many dartes and shields.
וַ/יִּתְחַזַּ֡ק וַ/יִּבֶן֩ אֶת כָּל הַ/חוֹמָ֨ה הַ/פְּרוּצָ֜ה וַ/יַּ֣עַל עַל הַ/מִּגְדָּל֗וֹת וְ/לַ/ח֨וּצָ/ה֙ הַ/חוֹמָ֣ה אַחֶ֔רֶת וַ/יְחַזֵּ֥ק אֶת הַ/מִּלּ֖וֹא עִ֣יר דָּוִ֑יד וַ/יַּ֥עַשׂ שֶׁ֛לַח לָ/רֹ֖ב וּ/מָגִנִּֽים
And hee set captaines of warre ouer the people, and gathered them together to him in the streete of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying;
GenevaAnd he set captaines of warre ouer the people, and assembled them to him in the broade place of the gate of the citie, and spake comfortably vnto them, saying,
וַ/יִּתֵּ֛ן שָׂרֵ֥י מִלְחָמ֖וֹת עַל הָ/עָ֑ם וַ/יִּקְבְּצֵ֣/ם אֵלָ֗י/ו אֶל רְחוֹב֙ שַׁ֣עַר הָ/עִ֔יר וַ/יְדַבֵּ֥ר עַל לְבָבָ֖/ם לֵ/אמֹֽר
Be strong and couragious, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there bee moe with vs, then with him.
GenevaBe strong and couragious: feare not, neither be afraide for the King of Asshur, neither for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with vs, then is with him.
חִזְק֣וּ וְ/אִמְצ֔וּ אַל תִּֽירְא֣וּ וְ/אַל תֵּחַ֗תּוּ מִ/פְּנֵי֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר וּ/מִ/לִּ/פְנֵ֖י כָּל הֶ/הָמ֣וֹן אֲשֶׁר עִמּ֑/וֹ כִּֽי עִמָּ֥/נוּ רַ֖ב מֵ/עִמּֽ/וֹ
With him is an arme of flesh, but with vs is the LORD our God to helpe vs, and to fight our battels. And the people rested themselues vpon the words of Hezekiah king of Iudah.
GenevaWith him is an arme of flesh, but with vs is the Lord our God for to helpe vs, and to fight our battels. Then the people were confirmed by the wordes of Hezekiah King of Iudah.
עִמּ/וֹ֙ זְר֣וֹעַ בָּשָׂ֔ר וְ/עִמָּ֜/נוּ יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֵ֨י/נוּ֙ לְ/עָזְרֵ֔/נוּ וּ/לְ/הִלָּחֵ֖ם מִלְחֲמֹתֵ֑/נוּ וַ/יִּסָּמְכ֣וּ הָ/עָ֔ם עַל דִּבְרֵ֖י יְחִזְקִיָּ֥הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה
¶ After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his seruants to Ierusalem (but he himselfe laide siege against Lachish, and all his power with him) vnto Hezekiah king of Iudah, and vnto all Iudah that were at Ierusalem, saying;

אַ֣חַר זֶ֗ה שָׁ֠לַח סַנְחֵרִ֨יב מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֤וּר עֲבָדָי/ו֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלַ֔יְמָ/ה וְ/הוּא֙ עַל לָכִ֔ישׁ וְ/כָל מֶמְשַׁלְתּ֖/וֹ עִמּ֑/וֹ עַל יְחִזְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה וְ/עַל כָּל יְהוּדָ֛ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּ/ירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם לֵ/אמֹֽר
Thus sayth Semacherib king of Assyria, Whereon doe ye trust, that yee abide in the siege in Ierusalem?
GenevaThus saith Saneherib the King of Asshur, Wherein doe ye trust, that ye will remaine in Ierusalem, during the siege?
כֹּ֣ה אָמַ֔ר סַנְחֵרִ֖יב מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֑וּר עַל מָה֙ אַתֶּ֣ם בֹּטְחִ֔ים וְ/יֹשְׁבִ֥ים בְּ/מָצ֖וֹר בִּ/ירוּשָׁלִָֽם
Doeth not Hezekiah perswade you to giue ouer your selues to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliuer vs out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
GenevaDoeth not Hezekiah entice you to giue ouer your selues vnto death by famine and by thirst, saying, The Lord our God shall deliuer vs out of the hande of the King of Asshur?
הֲ/לֹ֤א יְחִזְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ מַסִּ֣ית אֶתְ/כֶ֔ם לָ/תֵ֣ת אֶתְ/כֶ֔ם לָ/מ֛וּת בְּ/רָעָ֥ב וּ/בְ/צָמָ֖א לֵ/אמֹ֑ר יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔י/נוּ יַצִּילֵ֕/נוּ מִ/כַּ֖ף מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר
Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places, and his altars, and commanded Iudah and Ierusalem, saying; Yee shall worship before one altar, & burne incense vpon it?
GenevaHath not the same Hezekiah taken away his hie places and his altars, and commanded Iudah and Ierusalem, saying, Ye shall worshippe before one altar, and burne incense vpon it?
הֲ/לֹא הוּא֙ יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ הֵסִ֥יר אֶת בָּמֹתָ֖י/ו וְ/אֶת מִזְבְּחֹתָ֑י/ו וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר לִֽ/יהוּדָ֤ה וְ/לִֽ/ירוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר לִ/פְנֵ֨י מִזְבֵּ֧חַ אֶחָ֛ד תִּֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ וְ/עָלָ֥י/ו תַּקְטִֽירוּ
Know ye not what I and my fathers haue done vnto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those landes any wayes able to deliuer their lands out of mine hand?
GenevaKnowe ye not what I and my fathers haue done vnto all the people of other countreyes? were the gods of the nations of other landes able to deliuer their land out of mine hande?
הֲ/לֹ֣א תֵדְע֗וּ מֶ֤ה עָשִׂ֨יתִי֙ אֲנִ֣י וַ/אֲבוֹתַ֔/י לְ/כֹ֖ל עַמֵּ֣י הָ/אֲרָצ֑וֹת הֲ/יָכ֣וֹל יָֽכְל֗וּ אֱלֹהֵי֙ גּוֹיֵ֣ הָ/אֲרָצ֔וֹת לְ/הַצִּ֥יל אֶת אַרְצָ֖/ם מִ/יָּדִֽ/י
Who was there among all the gods of those nations, that my fathers vtterly destroyed, that could deliuer his people out of mine hand, that your God should bee able to deliuer you out of mine hand?
GenevaWho is he of al the gods of those natios (that my fathers haue destroied) that could deliuer his people out of mine hande? that your God should be able to deliuer you out of mine hand?
מִ֠י בְּֽ/כָל אֱלֹהֵ֞י הַ/גּוֹיִ֤ם הָ/אֵ֨לֶּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֶחֱרִ֣ימוּ אֲבוֹתַ֔/י אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָכ֔וֹל לְ/הַצִּ֥יל אֶת עַמּ֖/וֹ מִ/יָּדִ֑/י כִּ֤י יוּכַל֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵי/כֶ֔ם לְ/הַצִּ֥יל אֶתְ/כֶ֖ם מִ/יָּדִֽ/י
Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceiue you, nor perswade you on this manner, neither yet beleeue him: for no god of any nation or kingdome was able to deliuer his people out of mine hand, & out of the hand of my fathers: how much lesse shall your God deliuer you out of mine hand?
GenevaNowe therefore let not Hezekiah deceiue you, nor seduce you after this sort, neither beleeue ye him: for none of all the gods of any nation or kingdome was able to deliuer his people out of mine hande and out of the hande of my fathers: howe much lesse shall your gods deliuer you out of mine hande?
וְ/עַתָּ֡ה אַל יַשִּׁיא֩ אֶתְ/כֶ֨ם חִזְקִיָּ֜הוּ וְ/אַל יַסִּ֨ית אֶתְ/כֶ֣ם כָּ/זֹאת֮ וְ/אַל תַּאֲמִ֣ינוּ ל/וֹ֒ כִּי לֹ֣א יוּכַ֗ל כָּל אֱל֨וֹהַ֙ כָּל גּ֣וֹי וּ/מַמְלָכָ֔ה לְ/הַצִּ֥יל עַמּ֛/וֹ מִ/יָּדִ֖/י וּ/מִ/יַּ֣ד אֲבוֹתָ֑/י אַ֚ף כִּ֣י אֱֽלֹהֵי/כֶ֔ם לֹא יַצִּ֥ילוּ אֶתְ/כֶ֖ם מִ/יָּדִֽ/י
And his seruants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his seruant Hezekiah.

וְ/עוֹד֙ דִּבְּר֣וּ עֲבָדָ֔י/ו עַל יְהוָ֖ה הָ/אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְ/עַ֖ל יְחִזְקִיָּ֥הוּ עַבְדּֽ/וֹ
Hee wrote also letters to raile on the LORD God of Israel, & to speake against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands haue not deliuered their people out of mine hand: so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliuer his people out of mine hand.
GenevaHe wrote also letters, blaspheming the Lord God of Israel and speaking against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other countreies could not deliuer their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliuer his people out of mine hande.
וּ/סְפָרִ֣ים כָּתַ֔ב לְ/חָרֵ֕ף לַ/יהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְ/לֵֽ/אמֹ֨ר עָלָ֜י/ו לֵ/אמֹ֗ר כֵּֽ/אלֹהֵ֞י גּוֹיֵ֤ הָ/אֲרָצוֹת֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹא הִצִּ֤ילוּ עַמָּ/ם֙ מִ/יָּדִ֔/י כֵּ֣ן לֹֽא יַצִּ֞יל אֱלֹהֵ֧י יְחִזְקִיָּ֛הוּ עַמּ֖/וֹ מִ/יָּדִֽ/י
Then they cryed with a loude voice in the Iewes speech vnto the people of Ierusalem that were on the wal, to affright them, and to trouble them, that they might take the city.

וַ/יִּקְרְא֨וּ בְ/קוֹל גָּד֜וֹל יְהוּדִ֗ית עַל עַ֤ם יְרוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל הַֽ/חוֹמָ֔ה לְ/יָֽרְאָ֖/ם וּֽ/לְ/בַהֲלָ֑/ם לְמַ֖עַן יִלְכְּד֥וּ אֶת הָ/עִֽיר
And they spake against the God of Ierusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth which were the worke of the hands of man.
GenevaThus they spake against the God of Ierusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, euen the workes of mans hands,
וַֽ/יְדַבְּר֔וּ אֶל אֱלֹהֵ֖י יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם כְּ/עַ֗ל אֱלֹהֵי֙ עַמֵּ֣י הָ/אָ֔רֶץ מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה יְדֵ֥י הָ/אָדָֽם
For this cause Hezekiah the king, and the Prophet Isaiah the sonne of Amoz, prayed and cryed to heauen.
GenevaBut Hezekiah the King, and the Prophet Isaiah the sonne of Amoz prayed against this and cryed to heauen.
וַ/יִּתְפַּלֵּ֞ל יְחִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ הַ/מֶּ֗לֶךְ וִֽ/ישַֽׁעְיָ֧הוּ בֶן אָמ֛וֹץ הַ/נָּבִ֖יא עַל זֹ֑את וַֽ/יִּזְעֲק֖וּ הַ/שָּׁמָֽיִם
¶ And the LORD sent an Angel, which cut off all the mightie men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the campe of the king of Assyria: so hee returned with shame of face to his owne land. And when hee was come into the house of his god, they that came foorth of his owne bowels, slew him there with the sword.
GenevaAnd the Lord sent an Angel which destroyed all the valiant men, and the princes and captaines of the hoste of the King of Asshur: so he returned with shame to his owne lande. וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֤ח יְהוָה֙ מַלְאָ֔ךְ וַ/יַּכְחֵ֞ד כָּל גִּבּ֥וֹר חַ֨יִל֙ וְ/נָגִ֣יד וְ/שָׂ֔ר בְּ/מַחֲנֵ֖ה מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֑וּר וַ/יָּשָׁב֩ בְּ/בֹ֨שֶׁת פָּנִ֜ים לְ/אַרְצ֗/וֹ וַ/יָּבֹא֙ בֵּ֣ית אֱלֹהָ֔י/ו ו/מ/יציא/ו מֵעָ֔י/ו שָׁ֖ם הִפִּילֻ֥/הוּ בֶ/חָֽרֶב
Thus the LORD saued Hezekiah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem, from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on euery side.
GenevaSo the Lord saued Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Ierusalem from the hande of Saneherib King of Asshur, and from the hande of all other, and maintained them on euery side.
וַ/יּוֹשַׁע֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֶת יְחִזְקִיָּ֜הוּ וְ/אֵ֣ת יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם מִ/יַּ֛ד סַנְחֵרִ֥יב מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֖וּר וּ/מִ/יַּד כֹּ֑ל וַֽ/יְנַהֲלֵ֖/ם מִ/סָּבִֽיב
And many brought gifts vnto the LORD to Ierusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Iudah: so that hee was magnified in the sight of all nations, from thenceforth.
GenevaAnd many brought offrings vnto the Lord to Ierusalem, and presents to Hezekiah King of Iudah, so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thencefoorth.
וְ֠/רַבִּים מְבִיאִ֨ים מִנְחָ֤ה לַ/יהוָה֙ לִ/יר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וּ/מִ֨גְדָּנ֔וֹת לִֽ/יחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַ/יִּנַּשֵּׂ֛א לְ/עֵינֵ֥י כָל הַ/גּוֹיִ֖ם מֵ/אַֽחֲרֵי כֵֽן
¶ In those dayes Hezekiah was sicke to the death, and prayed vnto the LORD: and he spake vnto him, and he gaue him a signe.

בַּ/יָּמִ֣ים הָ/הֵ֔ם חָלָ֥ה יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ עַד לָ/מ֑וּת וַ/יִּתְפַּלֵּל֙ אֶל יְהוָ֔ה וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔/וֹ וּ/מוֹפֵ֖ת נָ֥תַן לֽ/וֹ
But Hezekiah rendred not againe, according to the benefit done vnto him: for his heart was lifted vp, therefore there was wrath vpon him, and vpon Iudah and Ierusalem.
GenevaBut Hezekiah did not render according to the rewarde bestowed vpon him: for his heart was lift vp, and wrath came vpon him, and vpon Iudah and Ierusalem.
וְ/לֹא כִ/גְמֻ֤ל עָלָי/ו֙ הֵשִׁ֣יב יְחִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ כִּ֥י גָבַ֖הּ לִבּ֑/וֹ וַ/יְהִ֤י עָלָי/ו֙ קֶ֔צֶף וְ/עַל יְהוּדָ֖ה וִ/ירוּשָׁלִָֽם
Notwithstanding, Hezekiah humbled himselfe for the pride of his heart, (both hee and the inhabitants of Ierusalem) so that the wrath of the LORD came not vpon them in the dayes of Hezekiah.
GenevaNotwithstanding Hezekiah humbled him selfe (after that his heart was lifted vp) he and the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and the wrath of the Lord came not vpon them in the dayes of Hezekiah.
וַ/יִּכָּנַ֤ע יְחִזְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ בְּ/גֹ֣בַהּ לִבּ֔/וֹ ה֖וּא וְ/יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְ/לֹא בָ֤א עֲלֵי/הֶם֙ קֶ֣צֶף יְהוָ֔ה בִּ/ימֵ֖י יְחִזְקִיָּֽהוּ
¶ And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches, and honour: and he made himselfe treasuries for siluer, and for golde, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all maner of pleasant iewels;
GenevaHezekiah also had exceeding much riches and honour, and he gate him treasures of siluer, and of golde, and of precious stones, and of sweete odours, and of shieldes, and of all pleasant vessels:
וַ/יְהִ֧י לִֽ/יחִזְקִיָּ֛הוּ עֹ֥שֶׁר וְ/כָב֖וֹד הַרְבֵּ֣ה מְאֹ֑ד וְ/אֹֽצָר֣וֹת עָֽשָׂה ל֠/וֹ לְ/כֶ֨סֶף וּ/לְ/זָהָ֜ב וּ/לְ/אֶ֣בֶן יְקָרָ֗ה וְ/לִ/בְשָׂמִים֙ וּ/לְ/מָ֣גִנִּ֔ים וּ/לְ/כֹ֖ל כְּלֵ֥י חֶמְדָּֽה
Store-houses also for the increase of corne, and wine and oile; and stalles for all maner of beasts, and coates for flocks.
GenevaAnd of store houses for the increase of wheat and wine and oyle, and stalles for all beasts, and rowes for the stables.
וּ/מִ֨סְכְּנ֔וֹת לִ/תְבוּאַ֥ת דָּגָ֖ן וְ/תִיר֣וֹשׁ וְ/יִצְהָ֑ר וְ/אֻֽרָוֺת֙ לְ/כָל בְּהֵמָ֣ה וּ/בְהֵמָ֔ה וַ/עֲדָרִ֖ים לָ/אֲוֵרֽוֹת
Moreouer, hee prouided him cities, and possessions of flockes & heards in abundance: for God had giuen him substance very much.
GenevaAnd he made him cities, and had possession of sheepe and oxen in abundance: for God had giuen him substance exceeding much.
וְ/עָרִים֙ עָ֣שָׂה ל֔/וֹ וּ/מִקְנֵה צֹ֥אן וּ/בָקָ֖ר לָ/רֹ֑ב כִּ֤י נָֽתַן ל/וֹ֙ אֱלֹהִ֔ים רְכ֖וּשׁ רַ֥ב מְאֹֽד
This same Hezekiah also stopped the vpper water-course of Gihon, and brought it straight downe to the Westside of the City of Dauid. And Hezekiah prospered in all his workes.

וְ/ה֣וּא יְחִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ סָתַם֙ אֶת מוֹצָ֞א מֵימֵ֤י גִיחוֹן֙ הָֽ/עֶלְי֔וֹן וַֽ/יַּישְּׁרֵ֥/ם לְ/מַֽטָּה מַּעְרָ֖בָ/ה לְ/עִ֣יר דָּוִ֑יד וַ/יַּצְלַ֥ח יְחִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּ/כָֽל מַעֲשֵֽׂ/הוּ
¶ Howbeit, in the businesse of the Embassadours of the Princes of Babylon, who sent vnto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

¶ Now, the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodnesse, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the Prophet, the sonne of Amoz, and in the booke of the kings of Iudah and Israel.
