Nowe the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell downe slaine in mount Gilboa.

GenevaNow the Philistims fought against Israel, and the me of Israel fled away from ye Philistims, and they fell downe wounded in mount Gilboa.

וּ/פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים נִלְחָמִ֣ים בְּ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַ/יָּנֻ֜סוּ אַנְשֵׁ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מִ/פְּנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַ/יִּפְּל֥וּ חֲלָלִ֖ים בְּ/הַ֥ר הַ/גִּלְבֹּֽעַ

And the Philistines followed hard vpon Saul, and vpon his sonnes, and the Philistines slewe Ionathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Sauls sonnes.

GenevaAnd the Philistims preassed sore vpon Saul and his sonnes, and slewe Ionathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua Sauls sonnes.

וַ/יַּדְבְּק֣וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים אֶת שָׁא֖וּל וְ/אֶת בָּנָ֑י/ו וַ/יַּכּ֣וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים אֶת יְהוֹנָתָ֧ן וְ/אֶת אֲבִינָדָ֛ב וְ/אֶת מַלְכִּי שׁ֖וּעַ בְּנֵ֥י שָׁאֽוּל

And the battell went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was sore wounded of the archers.

GenevaAnd when the battel went sore against Saul, the archers and bowmen hit him, and hee was sore wounded of the archers.

וַ/תִּכְבַּ֤ד הַ/מִּלְחָמָה֙ אֶל שָׁא֔וּל וַ/יִּמְצָאֻ֥/הוּ הַ/מּוֹרִ֖ים אֲנָשִׁ֣ים בַּ/קָּ֑שֶׁת וַ/יָּ֥חֶל מְאֹ֖ד מֵ/הַ/מּוֹרִֽים

Then said Saul vnto his armour bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these vncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse mee. But his armour bearer would not, for he was sore afraid: therfore Saul tooke a sword, & fell vpon it.

וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁאוּל֩ לְ/נֹשֵׂ֨א כֵלָ֜י/ו שְׁלֹ֥ף חַרְבְּ/ךָ֣ וְ/דָקְרֵ֣/נִי בָ֗/הּ פֶּן יָ֠בוֹאוּ הָ/עֲרֵלִ֨ים הָ/אֵ֤לֶּה וּ/דְקָרֻ֨/נִי֙ וְ/הִתְעַלְּלוּ בִ֔/י וְ/לֹ֤א אָבָה֙ נֹשֵׂ֣א כֵלָ֔י/ו כִּ֥י יָרֵ֖א מְאֹ֑ד וַ/יִּקַּ֤ח שָׁאוּל֙ אֶת הַ/חֶ֔רֶב וַ/יִּפֹּ֖ל עָלֶֽי/הָ

And when his armour bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise vpon his sword, and died with him.

GenevaAnd when his armour bearer sawe that Saul was dead, he fell likewise vpon his sword, and dyed with him.

וַ/יַּ֥רְא נֹשֵֽׂא כֵלָ֖י/ו כִּ֣י מֵ֣ת שָׁא֑וּל וַ/יִּפֹּ֥ל גַּם ה֛וּא עַל חַרְבּ֖/וֹ וַ/יָּ֥מָת עִמּֽ/וֹ

So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armour bearer, and all his men that same day together.

וַ/יָּ֣מָת שָׁא֡וּל וּ/שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת בָּנָי/ו֩ וְ/נֹשֵׂ֨א כֵלָ֜י/ו גַּ֧ם כָּל אֲנָשָׁ֛י/ו בַּ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/ה֖וּא יַחְדָּֽו

¶ And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Iordane, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sonnes were dead, they forsooke the cities and fled, and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

GenevaAnd when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they of the other side Iorden saw that the men of Israel were put to flight, and that Saul and his sonnes were dead, then they left the cities, and ran away: and the Philistims came and dwelt in them.

וַ/יִּרְא֣וּ אַנְשֵֽׁי יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר בְּ/עֵ֨בֶר הָ/עֵ֜מֶק וַ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּ/עֵ֣בֶר הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֗ן כִּֽי נָ֨סוּ֙ אַנְשֵׁ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְ/כִי מֵ֖תוּ שָׁא֣וּל וּ/בָנָ֑י/ו וַ/יַּעַזְב֤וּ אֶת הֶֽ/עָרִים֙ וַ/יָּנֻ֔סוּ וַ/יָּבֹ֣אוּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַ/יֵּֽשְׁב֖וּ בָּ/הֶֽן

And it came to passe on the morrow when the Philistines came to strip the slaine, that they found Saul, and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

GenevaAnd on the morowe when the Philistims were come to spoyle them that were slaine, they founde Saul and his three sonnes lying in mount Gilboa,

וַֽ/יְהִי֙ מִֽ/מָּחֳרָ֔ת וַ/יָּבֹ֣אוּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים לְ/פַשֵּׁ֖ט אֶת הַ/חֲלָלִ֑ים וַֽ/יִּמְצְא֤וּ אֶת שָׁאוּל֙ וְ/אֶת שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת בָּנָ֔י/ו נֹפְלִ֖ים בְּ/הַ֥ר הַ/גִּלְבֹּֽעַ

And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about to publish it in the house of their idoles, and among the people.

וַֽ/יִּכְרְתוּ֙ אֶת רֹאשׁ֔/וֹ וַ/יַּפְשִׁ֖יטוּ אֶת כֵּלָ֑י/ו וַ/יְשַׁלְּח֨וּ בְ/אֶֽרֶץ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֜ים סָבִ֗יב לְ/בַשֵּׂ֛ר בֵּ֥ית עֲצַבֵּי/הֶ֖ם וְ/אֶת הָ/עָֽם

And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.

GenevaAnd they layed vp his armour in the house of Ashtaroth, but they hanged vp his body on the wall of Beth-shan.

וַ/יָּשִׂ֨מוּ֙ אֶת כֵּלָ֔י/ו בֵּ֖ית עַשְׁתָּר֑וֹת וְ/אֶת גְּוִיָּת/וֹ֙ תָּקְע֔וּ בְּ/חוֹמַ֖ת בֵּ֥ית שָֽׁן

¶ And when the inhabitants of Iabesh Gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul:

וַ/יִּשְׁמְע֣וּ אֵלָ֔י/ו יֹשְׁבֵ֖י יָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֑ד אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר עָשׂ֥וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים לְ/שָׁאֽוּל

All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and tooke the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sonnes from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Iabesh, and burnt them there.

וַ/יָּק֜וּמוּ כָּל אִ֣ישׁ חַיִל֮ וַ/יֵּלְכ֣וּ כָל הַ/לַּיְלָה֒ וַ/יִּקְח֞וּ אֶת גְּוִיַּ֣ת שָׁא֗וּל וְ/אֵת֙ גְּוִיֹּ֣ת בָּנָ֔י/ו מֵ/חוֹמַ֖ת בֵּ֣ית שָׁ֑ן וַ/יָּבֹ֣אוּ יָבֵ֔שָׁ/ה וַ/יִּשְׂרְפ֥וּ אֹתָ֖/ם שָֽׁם

And they tooke their bones, and buried them vnder a tree at Iabesh, and fasted seuen dayes.
