1 Samuel 30
And it came to passe when Dauid and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had inuaded the South and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burnt it with fire:

וַ/יְהִ֞י בְּ/בֹ֨א דָוִ֧ד וַ/אֲנָשָׁ֛י/ו צִֽקְלַ֖ג בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/שְּׁלִישִׁ֑י וַ/עֲמָלֵקִ֣י פָֽשְׁט֗וּ אֶל נֶ֨גֶב֙ וְ/אֶל צִ֣קְלַ֔ג וַ/יַּכּוּ֙ אֶת צִ֣קְלַ֔ג וַ/יִּשְׂרְפ֥וּ אֹתָ֖/הּ בָּ/אֵֽשׁ
And had taken the women captiues, that were therein; they slewe not any either great or smal, but caried them away, and went on their way.
GenevaAnd had taken the women that were therein, prisoners, both small and great, and slewe not a man, but caryed them away, and went their wayes.
וַ/יִּשְׁבּ֨וּ אֶת הַ/נָּשִׁ֤ים אֲשֶׁר בָּ/הּ֙ מִ/קָּטֹ֣ן וְ/עַד גָּד֔וֹל לֹ֥א הֵמִ֖יתוּ אִ֑ישׁ וַ/יִּֽנְהֲג֔וּ וַ/יֵּלְכ֖וּ לְ/דַרְכָּֽ/ם
¶ So Dauid and his men came to the citie, and beholde, it was burnt with fire, and their wiues, and their sonnes, and their daughters were taken captiues.

וַ/יָּבֹ֨א דָוִ֤ד וַֽ/אֲנָשָׁי/ו֙ אֶל הָ/עִ֔יר וְ/הִנֵּ֥ה שְׂרוּפָ֖ה בָּ/אֵ֑שׁ וּ/נְשֵׁי/הֶ֛ם וּ/בְנֵי/הֶ֥ם וּ/בְנֹתֵי/הֶ֖ם נִשְׁבּֽוּ
Then Dauid and the people that were with him, lift vp their voice, and wept, vntill they had no more power to weepe.
GenevaThen Dauid and the people that was with him, lift vp their voyces and wept, vntill they could weepe no more.
וַ/יִּשָּׂ֨א דָוִ֜ד וְ/הָ/עָ֧ם אֲשֶׁר אִתּ֛/וֹ אֶת קוֹלָ֖/ם וַ/יִּבְכּ֑וּ עַ֣ד אֲשֶׁ֧ר אֵין בָּ/הֶ֛ם כֹּ֖חַ לִ/בְכּֽוֹת
And Dauids two wiues were taken captiues, Ahinoam the Iezreelitesse, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
GenevaDauids two wiues were taken prisoners also, Ahinoam the Izreelite, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
וּ/שְׁתֵּ֥י נְשֵֽׁי דָוִ֖ד נִשְׁבּ֑וּ אֲחִינֹ֨עַם֙ הַ/יִּזְרְעֵלִ֔ית וַ/אֲבִיגַ֕יִל אֵ֖שֶׁת נָבָ֥ל הַֽ/כַּרְמְלִֽי
And Dauid was greatly distressed: for the people spake of stoning him, because the soule of all the people was grieued, euery man for his sonnes, and for his daughters: but Dauid encouraged himselfe in the LORD his God.
GenevaAnd Dauid was in great sorowe: for the people entended to stone him, because the heartes of all the people were vexed euery man for his sonnes and for his daughters: but Dauid comforted him selfe in the Lord his God.
וַ/תֵּ֨צֶר לְ/דָוִ֜ד מְאֹ֗ד כִּֽי אָמְר֤וּ הָ/עָם֙ לְ/סָקְל֔/וֹ כִּֽי מָ֨רָה֙ נֶ֣פֶשׁ כָּל הָ/עָ֔ם אִ֖ישׁ עַל בנ/ו וְ/עַל בְּנֹתָ֑י/ו וַ/יִּתְחַזֵּ֣ק דָּוִ֔ד בַּ/יהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהָֽי/ו
And Dauid said to Abiathar the Priest Ahimelechs sonne, I pray thee, bring mee hither the Ephod: and Abiathar brought thither the Ephod to Dauid.
GenevaAnd Dauid saide to Abiathar the Priest Ahimelechs sonne, I pray thee, bring me the Ephod. And Abiathar brought the Ephod to Dauid.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗ד אֶל אֶבְיָתָ֤ר הַ/כֹּהֵן֙ בֶּן אֲחִימֶ֔לֶךְ הַגִּֽישָׁ/ה נָּ֥א לִ֖/י הָ/אֵפֹ֑ד וַ/יַּגֵּ֧שׁ אֶבְיָתָ֛ר אֶת הָ/אֵפֹ֖ד אֶל דָּוִֽד
And Dauid enquired at the LORD, saying; Shall I pursue after this troupe? shall I ouertake them? And he answered him, Pursue, for thou shalt surely ouertake them, and without faile recouer all.
GenevaThen Dauid asked counsell at the Lord, saying, Shall I follow after this companie? shall I ouertake them? And he answered him, Followe: for thou shalt surely ouertake them, and recouer all.
וַ/יִּשְׁאַ֨ל דָּוִ֤ד בַּֽ/יהוָה֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר אֶרְדֹּ֛ף אַחֲרֵ֥י הַ/גְּדוּד הַ/זֶּ֖ה הַֽ/אַשִּׂגֶ֑/נּוּ וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר ל/וֹ֙ רְדֹ֔ף כִּֽי הַשֵּׂ֥ג תַּשִּׂ֖יג וְ/הַצֵּ֥ל תַּצִּֽיל
So Dauid went, hee, and the sixe hundred men that were with him, and came to the brooke Besor, where those that were left behinde, stayed.
GenevaSo Dauid and the sixe hundreth men that were with him, went, and came to the riuer Besor, where a part of them abode:
וַ/יֵּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֗ד ה֚וּא וְ/שֵׁשׁ מֵא֥וֹת אִישׁ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֔/וֹ וַ/יָּבֹ֖אוּ עַד נַ֣חַל הַ/בְּשׂ֑וֹר וְ/הַ/נּֽוֹתָרִ֖ים עָמָֽדוּ
But Dauid pursued, he and foure hundred men: (for two hundred abode behinde, which were so faint that they could not goe ouer the brooke Besor.)

וַ/יִּרְדֹּ֣ף דָּוִ֔ד ה֖וּא וְ/אַרְבַּע מֵא֣וֹת אִ֑ישׁ וַ/יַּֽעַמְדוּ֙ מָאתַ֣יִם אִ֔ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר פִּגְּר֔וּ מֵ/עֲבֹ֖ר אֶת נַ֥חַל הַ/בְּשֽׂוֹר
¶ And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to Dauid, and gaue him bread, and he did eate, and they made him drinke water.

וַֽ/יִּמְצְא֤וּ אִישׁ מִצְרִי֙ בַּ/שָּׂדֶ֔ה וַ/יִּקְח֥וּ אֹת֖/וֹ אֶל דָּוִ֑ד וַ/יִּתְּנוּ ל֥/וֹ לֶ֨חֶם֙ וַ/יֹּ֔אכַל וַ/יַּשְׁקֻ֖/הוּ מָֽיִם
And they gaue him a piece of a cake of figges, and two clusters of raisins: and when hee had eaten, his spirit came againe to him: for hee had eaten no bread, nor drunke any water, three dayes and three nights.

וַ/יִּתְּנוּ ל/וֹ֩ פֶ֨לַח דְּבֵלָ֜ה וּ/שְׁנֵ֤י צִמֻּקִים֙ וַ/יֹּ֔אכַל וַ/תָּ֥שָׁב רוּח֖/וֹ אֵלָ֑י/ו כִּ֠י לֹֽא אָ֤כַל לֶ֨חֶם֙ וְ/לֹא שָׁ֣תָה מַ֔יִם שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה יָמִ֖ים וּ/שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה לֵילֽוֹת
And Dauid sayde vnto him, To whome belongest thou? and whence art thou? And he said, I am a yong man of Egypt, seruant to an Amalekite, and my master left me, because three dayes agone I fell sicke.

וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר ל֤/וֹ דָוִד֙ לְֽ/מִי אַ֔תָּה וְ/אֵ֥י מִ/זֶּ֖ה אָ֑תָּה וַ/יֹּ֜אמֶר נַ֧עַר מִצְרִ֣י אָנֹ֗כִי עֶ֚בֶד לְ/אִ֣ישׁ עֲמָֽלֵקִ֔י וַ/יַּעַזְבֵ֧/נִי אֲדֹנִ֛/י כִּ֥י חָלִ֖יתִי הַ/יּ֥וֹם שְׁלֹשָֽׁה
Wee made an inuasion vpon the South of the Cherethites, and vpon the coast which belongeth to Iudah, and vpon the South of Caleb, and wee burnt Ziklag with fire.
GenevaWe roued vpon the South of Chereth, and vpon the coast belonging to Iudah, and vpon the South of Caleb, and we burnt Ziklag with fire.
אֲנַ֡חְנוּ פָּשַׁ֜טְנוּ נֶ֧גֶב הַ/כְּרֵתִ֛י וְ/עַל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לִֽ/יהוּדָ֖ה וְ/עַל נֶ֣גֶב כָּלֵ֑ב וְ/אֶת צִקְלַ֖ג שָׂרַ֥פְנוּ בָ/אֵֽשׁ
And Dauid sayde to him, Canst thou bring me downe to this company? And he said, Sweare vnto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliuer mee into the handes of my master, and I will bring thee downe to this company.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָי/ו֙ דָּוִ֔ד הֲ/תוֹרִדֵ֖/נִי אֶל הַ/גְּד֣וּד הַ/זֶּ֑ה וַ/יֹּ֡אמֶר הִשָּׁבְעָ/ה֩ לִּ֨/י בֵֽ/אלֹהִ֜ים אִם תְּמִיתֵ֗/נִי וְ/אִם תַּסְגִּרֵ֨/נִי֙ בְּ/יַד אֲדֹנִ֔/י וְ/אוֹרִֽדְ/ךָ֖ אֶל הַ/גְּד֥וּד הַ/זֶּֽה
¶ And when he had brought him downe, behold, they were spread abroad vpon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dauncing, because of all the great spoile that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Iudah.

וַ/יֹּ֣רִדֵ֔/הוּ וְ/הִנֵּ֥ה נְטֻשִׁ֖ים עַל פְּנֵ֣י כָל הָ/אָ֑רֶץ אֹכְלִ֤ים וְ/שֹׁתִים֙ וְ/חֹ֣גְגִ֔ים בְּ/כֹל֙ הַ/שָּׁלָ֣ל הַ/גָּד֔וֹל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָקְח֛וּ מֵ/אֶ֥רֶץ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים וּ/מֵ/אֶ֥רֶץ יְהוּדָֽה
And Dauid smote them from the twilight, euen vnto the euening of the next day: and there escaped not a man of them, saue foure hundred yong men which rode vpon camels, and fled.

וַ/יַּכֵּ֥/ם דָּוִ֛ד מֵ/הַ/נֶּ֥שֶׁף וְ/עַד הָ/עֶ֖רֶב לְ/מָֽחֳרָתָ֑/ם וְ/לֹֽא נִמְלַ֤ט מֵ/הֶם֙ אִ֔ישׁ כִּי֩ אִם אַרְבַּ֨ע מֵא֧וֹת אִֽישׁ נַ֛עַר אֲשֶׁר רָכְב֥וּ עַל הַ/גְּמַלִּ֖ים וַ/יָּנֻֽסוּ
And Dauid recouered all that the Amalekites had caried away: and Dauid rescued his two wiues.
GenevaAnd Dauid recouered all that the Amalekites had taken: also Dauid rescued his two wiues.
וַ/יַּצֵּ֣ל דָּוִ֔ד אֵ֛ת כָּל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָקְח֖וּ עֲמָלֵ֑ק וְ/אֶת שְׁתֵּ֥י נָשָׁ֖י/ו הִצִּ֥יל דָּוִֽד
And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sonnes nor daughters, neither spoile, nor any thing that they had taken to them: Dauid recouered all.
GenevaAnd they lacked nothing, small or great, sonne or daughter, or of the spoyle of all that they had taken away: Dauid recouered them all.
וְ/לֹ֣א נֶעְדַּר לָ֠/הֶם מִן הַ/קָּטֹ֨ן וְ/עַד הַ/גָּד֜וֹל וְ/עַד בָּנִ֤ים וּ/בָנוֹת֙ וּ/מִ/שָּׁלָ֔ל וְ/עַ֛ד כָּל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָקְח֖וּ לָ/הֶ֑ם הַ/כֹּ֖ל הֵשִׁ֥יב דָּוִֽד
And Dauid tooke all the flockes, and the herds, which they draue before those other cattell, and said, This is Dauids spoile.
GenevaDauid also tooke all the sheepe, and the oxen, and they draue them before his cattell, and said, This is Dauids pray.
וַ/יִּקַּ֣ח דָּוִ֔ד אֶת כָּל הַ/צֹּ֖אן וְ/הַ/בָּקָ֑ר נָהֲג֗וּ לִ/פְנֵי֙ הַ/מִּקְנֶ֣ה הַ/ה֔וּא וַ/יֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ זֶ֖ה שְׁלַ֥ל דָּוִֽד
¶ And Dauid came to the two hundred men which were so faint that they could not follow Dauid, whome they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet Dauid, and to meete the people, that were with him; and when Dauid came neere to the people, he saluted them.
GenevaAnd Dauid came to the two hundreth men that were too wearie for to follow Dauid: whome they had made also to abide at the riuer Besor: and they came to meete Dauid, and to meete the people that were with him: so when Dauid came neere to the people, hee saluted them.
וַ/יָּבֹ֣א דָוִ֗ד אֶל מָאתַ֨יִם הָ/אֲנָשִׁ֜ים אֲשֶֽׁר פִּגְּר֣וּ מִ/לֶּ֣כֶת אַחֲרֵ֣י דָוִ֗ד וַ/יֹּֽשִׁיבֻ/ם֙ בְּ/נַ֣חַל הַ/בְּשׂ֔וֹר וַ/יֵּֽצְאוּ֙ לִ/קְרַ֣את דָּוִ֔ד וְ/לִ/קְרַ֖את הָ/עָ֣ם אֲשֶׁר אִתּ֑/וֹ וַ/יִּגַּ֤שׁ דָּוִד֙ אֶת הָ/עָ֔ם וַ/יִּשְׁאַ֥ל לָ/הֶ֖ם לְ/שָׁלֽוֹם
Then answered all the wicked men, and men of Belial, of those that went with Dauid, and said, Because they went not with vs, we wil not giue them ought of the spoile, that wee haue recouered, saue to euery man his wife and his children, that they may leade them away, and depart.
GenevaThen answered all the euill and wicked of the men that went with Dauid, and saide, Because they went not with vs, therefore will wee giue them none of the pray that wee haue recouered, saue to euery man his wife and his children: therefore let them carie them away and depart.
וַ/יַּ֜עַן כָּל אִֽישׁ רָ֣ע וּ/בְלִיַּ֗עַל מֵֽ/הָ/אֲנָשִׁים֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָלְכ֣וּ עִם דָּוִד֒ וַ/יֹּאמְר֗וּ יַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא הָלְכ֣וּ עִמִּ֔/י לֹֽא נִתֵּ֣ן לָ/הֶ֔ם מֵ/הַ/שָּׁלָ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִצַּ֑לְנוּ כִּֽי אִם אִ֤ישׁ אֶת אִשְׁתּ/וֹ֙ וְ/אֶת בָּנָ֔י/ו וְ/יִנְהֲג֖וּ וְ/יֵלֵֽכוּ
Then said Dauid, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath giuen vs, who hath preserued vs, and deliuered the companie that came against vs, into our hand.
GenevaThen saide Dauid, Yee shall not doe so, my brethren, with that which the Lord hath giuen vs, who hath preserued vs, and deliuered the companie that came against vs, into our handes.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד לֹֽא תַעֲשׂ֥וּ כֵ֖ן אֶחָ֑/י אֵ֠ת אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֨ן יְהוָ֥ה לָ֨/נוּ֙ וַ/יִּשְׁמֹ֣ר אֹתָ֔/נוּ וַ/יִּתֵּ֗ן אֶֽת הַ/גְּד֛וּד הַ/בָּ֥א עָלֵ֖י/נוּ בְּ/יָדֵֽ/נוּ
For who will hearken vnto you in this matter? But as his part is that goeth downe to the battell, so shall his part bee that tarieth by the stuffe: they shall part alike.

וּ/מִי֙ יִשְׁמַ֣ע לָ/כֶ֔ם לַ/דָּבָ֖ר הַ/זֶּ֑ה כִּ֞י כְּ/חֵ֣לֶק הַ/יֹּרֵ֣ד בַּ/מִּלְחָמָ֗ה וּֽ/כְ/חֵ֛לֶק הַ/יֹּשֵׁ֥ב עַל הַ/כֵּלִ֖ים יַחְדָּ֥ו יַחֲלֹֽקוּ
And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute, and an ordinance for Israel, vnto this day.
GenevaSo from that day forward hee made it a statute and a lawe in Israel, vntill this day.
וַ/יְהִ֕י מֵֽ/הַ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/ה֖וּא וָ/מָ֑עְלָ/ה וַ/יְשִׂמֶ֜/הָ לְ/חֹ֤ק וּ/לְ/מִשְׁפָּט֙ לְ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַ֖ד הַ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/זֶּֽה
¶ And when Dauid came to Ziklag, hee sent of the spoile vnto the Elders of Iudah, euen to his friends, (saying, Behold a Present for you, of the spoile of the enemies of the LORD )
GenevaWhen Dauid therefore came to Ziklag, he sent of the pray vnto the Elders of Iudah and to his friends, saying, See there is a blessing for you of the spoyle of the enemies of the Lord.
וַ/יָּבֹ֤א דָוִד֙ אֶל צִ֣קְלַ֔ג וַ/יְשַׁלַּ֧ח מֵֽ/הַ/שָּׁלָ֛ל לְ/זִקְנֵ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה לְ/רֵעֵ֣/הוּ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר הִנֵּ֤ה לָ/כֶם֙ בְּרָכָ֔ה מִ/שְּׁלַ֖ל אֹיְבֵ֥י יְהוָֽה
To them which were in Bethel, and to them which were in South Ramoth, and to them which were in Iattir,
GenevaHee sent to them of Beth-el, and to them of South Ramoth, and to them of Iattir,
לַ/אֲשֶׁ֧ר בְּ/בֵֽית אֵ֛ל וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ/רָמֽוֹת נֶ֖גֶב וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ/יַתִּֽר
And to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemoa,
GenevaAnd to them of Aroer, and to them of Siphmoth, and to them of Eshtemoa,
וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֧ר בַּ/עֲרֹעֵ֛ר וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ/שִֽׂפְמ֖וֹת וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ/אֶשְׁתְּמֹֽעַ
And to them which were in Rachal, and them which were in the cities of the Ierahmeelites, and to them which were in the cities of the Kenites,
GenevaAnd to them of Rachal, and to them of the cities of the Ierahmeelites, and to them of the cities of the Kenites,
וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּ/רָכָ֗ל וְ/לַֽ/אֲשֶׁר֙ בְּ/עָרֵ֣י הַ/יְּרַחְמְאֵלִ֔י וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּ/עָרֵ֥י הַ/קֵּינִֽי
And to them which were in Hormah, and to them which were in Chorashan, and to them which were in Athach,
GenevaAnd to them of Hormah, and to them of Chor-ashan, and to them of Athach,
וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֧ר בְּ/חָרְמָ֛ה וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ/בוֹר עָשָׁ֖ן וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּ/עֲתָֽךְ
And to them which were in Hebron, and to all the places where Dauid himselfe and his men were wont to haunt.
GenevaAnd to them of Hebron, and to all the places where Dauid and his men had hanted.
וְ/לַ/אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּ/חֶבְר֑וֹן וּֽ/לְ/כָל הַ/מְּקֹמ֛וֹת אֲשֶֽׁר הִתְהַלֶּךְ שָׁ֥ם דָּוִ֖ד ה֥וּא וַ/אֲנָשָֽׁי/ו
