Psalms 74
Maschil of Asaph.
O God, why hast thou cast vs off for euer? why doeth thine anger smoke against the sheepe of thy pasture?
GenevaA Psalme to give instruction, committed to Asaph. O God, why hast thou put vs away for euer? why is thy wrath kindled against the sheepe of thy pasture?
מַשְׂכִּ֗יל לְ/אָ֫סָ֥ף לָ/מָ֣ה אֱ֭לֹהִים זָנַ֣חְתָּ לָ/נֶ֑צַח יֶעְשַׁ֥ן אַ֝פְּ/ךָ֗ בְּ/צֹ֣אן מַרְעִיתֶֽ/ךָ
Remember thy Congregation which thou hast purchased of olde: the rod of thine inheritance which thou hast redeemed, this mount Sion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
GenevaThinke vpon thy Congregation, which thou hast possessed of olde, and on the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed, and on this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.
זְכֹ֤ר עֲדָתְ/ךָ֨ קָ֘נִ֤יתָ קֶּ֗דֶם גָּ֭אַלְתָּ שֵׁ֣בֶט נַחֲלָתֶ֑/ךָ הַר צִ֝יּ֗וֹן זֶ֤ה שָׁכַ֬נְתָּ בּֽ/וֹ
Lift vp thy feete vnto the perpetuall desolations: euen all that the enemie hath done wickedly in the Sanctuarie.
GenevaLift vp thy strokes, that thou mayest for euer destroy euery enemie that doeth euill to the Sanctuarie.
הָרִ֣ימָ/ה פְ֭עָמֶי/ךָ לְ/מַשֻּׁא֣וֹת נֶ֑צַח כָּל הֵרַ֖ע אוֹיֵ֣ב בַּ/קֹּֽדֶשׁ
Thine enemies roare in the midst of thy congregations: they set vp their ensignes for signes.
GenevaThine aduersaries roare in the middes of thy Congregation, and set vp their banners for signes.
שָׁאֲג֣וּ צֹ֭רְרֶי/ךָ בְּ/קֶ֣רֶב מוֹעֲדֶ֑/ךָ שָׂ֖מוּ אוֹתֹתָ֣/ם אֹתֽוֹת
A man was famous according as he had lifted vp axes vpon the thicke trees.
GenevaHe that lifted the axes vpon the thicke trees, was renowmed, as one, that brought a thing to perfection:
יִ֭וָּדַע כְּ/מֵבִ֣יא לְ/מָ֑עְלָ/ה בִּֽ/סֲבָךְ עֵ֝֗ץ קַרְדֻּמּֽוֹת
But now they breake downe the carued worke thereof at once, with axes and hammers.

ו/עת פִּתּוּחֶ֣י/הָ יָּ֑חַד בְּ/כַשִּׁ֥יל וְ֝/כֵֽילַפֹּ֗ת יַהֲלֹמֽוּ/ן
They haue cast fire into thy Sanctuary, they haue defiled by casting downe, the dwelling place of thy Nawe to the ground.
GenevaThey haue cast thy Sanctuarie into the fire, and rased it to the grounde, and haue defiled the dwelling place of thy Name.
שִׁלְח֣וּ בָ֭/אֵשׁ מִקְדָּשֶׁ֑/ךָ לָ֝/אָ֗רֶץ חִלְּל֥וּ מִֽשְׁכַּן שְׁמֶֽ/ךָ
They said in their hearts, Let vs destroy them together: they haue burnt vp all the Synagogues of God in the land.

אָמְר֣וּ בְ֭/לִבָּ/ם נִינָ֣/ם יָ֑חַד שָׂרְפ֖וּ כָל מוֹעֲדֵי אֵ֣ל בָּ/אָֽרֶץ
We see not our signes, there is no more any prophet, neither is there among vs any that knoweth howe long.

אֽוֹתֹתֵ֗י/נוּ לֹ֥א רָ֫אִ֥ינוּ אֵֽין ע֥וֹד נָבִ֑יא וְ/לֹֽא אִ֝תָּ֗/נוּ יֹדֵ֥עַ עַד מָֽה
O God, how long shall the aduersarie reproach? shall the enemie blaspheme thy Name for euer?
GenevaO God, howe long shall the aduersarie reproche thee? shall the enemie blaspheme thy Name for euer?
עַד מָתַ֣י אֱ֭לֹהִים יְחָ֣רֶף צָ֑ר יְנָ֘אֵ֤ץ אוֹיֵ֖ב שִׁמְ/ךָ֣ לָ/נֶֽצַח
Why withdrawest thou thy hand, euen thy right hand? plucke it out of thy bosome.

לָ֤/מָּה תָשִׁ֣יב יָ֭דְ/ךָ וִֽ/ימִינֶ֑/ךָ מִ/קֶּ֖רֶב חוק/ך כַלֵּֽה
For God is my King of old working saluation in the midst of the earth.

וֵ֭/אלֹהִים מַלְכִּ֣/י מִ/קֶּ֑דֶם פֹּעֵ֥ל יְ֝שׁוּע֗וֹת בְּ/קֶ֣רֶב הָ/אָֽרֶץ
Thou didst diuide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.

אַתָּ֤ה פוֹרַ֣רְתָּ בְ/עָזְּ/ךָ֣ יָ֑ם שִׁבַּ֖רְתָּ רָאשֵׁ֥י תַ֝נִּינִ֗ים עַל הַ/מָּֽיִם
Thou brakest the heads of Leuiathan in pieces, and gauest him to bee meat to the people inhabiting the wildernesse.

אַתָּ֣ה רִ֭צַּצְתָּ רָאשֵׁ֣י לִוְיָתָ֑ן תִּתְּנֶ֥/נּוּ מַ֝אֲכָ֗ל לְ/עָ֣ם לְ/צִיִּֽים
Thou didst cleaue the fountaine and the flood: thou driedst vp mightie riuers.
GenevaThou brakest vp the fountaine and riuer: thou dryedst vp mightie riuers.
אַתָּ֣ה בָ֭קַעְתָּ מַעְיָ֣ן וָ/נָ֑חַל אַתָּ֥ה ה֝וֹבַ֗שְׁתָּ נַהֲר֥וֹת אֵיתָֽן
The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sunne.
GenevaThe day is thine, and the night is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sunne.
לְ/ךָ֣ י֭וֹם אַף לְ/ךָ֥ לָ֑יְלָה אַתָּ֥ה הֲ֝כִינ֗וֹתָ מָא֥וֹר וָ/שָֽׁמֶשׁ
Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: Thou hast made Summer and Winter.

אַתָּ֣ה הִ֭צַּבְתָּ כָּל גְּבוּל֣וֹת אָ֑רֶץ קַ֥יִץ וָ֝/חֹ֗רֶף אַתָּ֥ה יְצַרְתָּ/ם
Remember this, that the enemie hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people haue blasphemed thy Name.

זְכָר זֹ֗את א֭וֹיֵב חֵרֵ֣ף יְהוָ֑ה וְ/עַ֥ם נָ֝בָ֗ל נִֽאֲצ֥וּ שְׁמֶֽ/ךָ
O deliuer not the soule of thy turtle doue vnto the multitude of the wicked forget not the Congregation of thy poore for euer.

אַל תִּתֵּ֣ן לְ֭/חַיַּת נֶ֣פֶשׁ תּוֹרֶ֑/ךָ חַיַּ֥ת עֲ֝נִיֶּ֗י/ךָ אַל תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח לָ/נֶֽצַח
Haue respect vnto the couenant: for the darke places of the earth are full of the habitations of crueltie.

הַבֵּ֥ט לַ/בְּרִ֑ית כִּ֥י מָלְא֥וּ מַחֲשַׁכֵּי אֶ֝֗רֶץ נְא֣וֹת חָמָֽס
O let not the oppressed returne ashamed: let the poore and needie praise thy name.

אַל יָשֹׁ֣ב דַּ֣ךְ נִכְלָ֑ם עָנִ֥י וְ֝/אֶבְי֗וֹן יְֽהַלְל֥וּ שְׁמֶֽ/ךָ
Arise, O God, plead thine owne cause: remember how the foolish man reprocheth thee daily.

קוּמָ֣/ה אֱ֭לֹהִים רִיבָ֣/ה רִיבֶ֑/ךָ זְכֹ֥ר חֶרְפָּתְ/ךָ֥ מִנִּי נָ֝בָ֗ל כָּל הַ/יּֽוֹם
Forget not the voyce of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise vp against thee, increaseth continually.

אַל תִּ֭שְׁכַּח ק֣וֹל צֹרְרֶ֑י/ךָ שְׁא֥וֹן קָ֝מֶ֗י/ךָ עֹלֶ֥ה תָמִֽיד
