Psalms 73

Truely God is good to Israel, euen to such as are of a cleane heart.

GenevaA Psalme committed to Asaph. Yet God is good to Israel: euen, to the pure in heart.

מִזְמ֗וֹר לְ/אָ֫סָ֥ף אַ֤ךְ ט֭וֹב לְ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל אֱלֹהִ֗ים לְ/בָרֵ֥י לֵבָֽב

But as for mee, my feete were almost gone: my steps had well-nigh slipt.

GenevaAs for me, my feete were almost gone: my steps had well neere slipt.

וַ/אֲנִ֗י כִּ֭/מְעַט נטוי רַגְלָ֑/י כְּ֝/אַ֗יִן שפכה אֲשֻׁרָֽ/י

For I was enuious at the foolish, when I sawe the prosperity of the wicked.

GenevaFor I feared at the foolish, when I sawe the prosperitie of the wicked.

כִּֽי קִ֭נֵּאתִי בַּֽ/הוֹלְלִ֑ים שְׁל֖וֹם רְשָׁעִ֣ים אֶרְאֶֽה

For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firme.

GenevaFor there are no bandes in their death, but they are lustie and strong.

כִּ֤י אֵ֖ין חַרְצֻבּ֥וֹת לְ/מוֹתָ֗/ם וּ/בָרִ֥יא אוּלָֽ/ם

They are not in trouble as other men: neither are they plagued like other men.

GenevaThey are not in trouble as other men, neither are they plagued with other men.

בַּ/עֲמַ֣ל אֱנ֣וֹשׁ אֵינֵ֑/מוֹ וְ/עִם אָ֝דָ֗ם לֹ֣א יְנֻגָּֽעוּ

Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chaine: violence couereth them as a garment.

GenevaTherefore pride is as a chayne vnto them, and crueltie couereth them as a garment.

לָ֭/כֵן עֲנָקַ֣תְ/מוֹ גַאֲוָ֑ה יַעֲטָף שִׁ֝֗ית חָמָ֥ס לָֽ/מוֹ

Their eies stand out with fatnes: they haue more then heart could wish.

GenevaTheir eyes stande out for fatnesse: they haue more then heart can wish.

יָ֭צָא מֵ/חֵ֣לֶב עֵינֵ֑/מוֹ עָ֝בְר֗וּ מַשְׂכִּיּ֥וֹת לֵבָֽב

They are corrupt, and speake wickedly concerning oppression: they speake loftily.

GenevaThey are licentious, and speake wickedly of their oppression: they talke presumptuously.

יָמִ֤יקוּ וִ/ידַבְּר֣וּ בְ/רָ֣ע עֹ֑שֶׁק מִ/מָּר֥וֹם יְדַבֵּֽרוּ

They set their mouth against the heauens; and their tongue walketh through the earth.

GenevaThey set their mouth against heauen, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

שַׁתּ֣וּ בַ/שָּׁמַ֣יִם פִּי/הֶ֑ם וּ֝/לְשׁוֹנָ֗/ם תִּֽהֲלַ֥ךְ בָּ/אָֽרֶץ

Therefore his people returne hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

GenevaTherefore his people turne hither: for waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

לָ/כֵ֤ן ישיב עַמּ֣/וֹ הֲלֹ֑ם וּ/מֵ֥י מָ֝לֵ֗א יִמָּ֥צוּ לָֽ/מוֹ

And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

GenevaAnd they say, Howe doeth God know it? or is there knowledge in the most High?

וְֽ/אָמְר֗וּ אֵיכָ֥ה יָדַֽע אֵ֑ל וְ/יֵ֖שׁ דֵּעָ֣ה בְ/עֶלְיֽוֹן

Behold, these are the vngodly: who prosper in the world, they increase in riches.

GenevaLo, these are the wicked, yet prosper they alway, and increase in riches.

הִנֵּה אֵ֥לֶּה רְשָׁעִ֑ים וְ/שַׁלְוֵ֥י ע֝וֹלָ֗ם הִשְׂגּוּ חָֽיִל

Uerily I haue cleansed my heart in vaine, and washed my hands in innocencie.

GenevaCertainely I haue clensed mine heart in vaine, and washed mine hands in innocencie.

אַךְ רִ֭יק זִכִּ֣יתִי לְבָבִ֑/י וָ/אֶרְחַ֖ץ בְּ/נִקָּי֣וֹן כַּפָּֽ/י

For all the day long haue I bene plagued, and chastened euery morning.

GenevaFor dayly haue I bene punished, and chastened euery morning.

וָ/אֱהִ֣י נָ֭גוּעַ כָּל הַ/יּ֑וֹם וְ֝/תוֹכַחְתִּ֗/י לַ/בְּקָרִֽים

If I say, I will speake thus: behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

GenevaIf I say, I will iudge thus, beholde the generation of thy children: I haue trespassed.

אִם אָ֭מַרְתִּי אֲסַפְּרָ֥ה כְמ֑וֹ הִנֵּ֤ה ד֭וֹר בָּנֶ֣י/ךָ בָגָֽדְתִּי

When I thought to know this, it was too painfull for me,

GenevaThen thought I to know this, but it was too painefull for me,

וָֽ֭/אֲחַשְּׁבָ/ה לָ/דַ֣עַת זֹ֑את עָמָ֖ל היא בְ/עֵינָֽ/י

Untill I went into the Sanctuarie of God; then vnderstood I their end.

עַד אָ֭בוֹא אֶל מִקְדְּשֵׁי אֵ֑ל אָ֝בִ֗ינָה לְ/אַחֲרִיתָֽ/ם

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them downe into destruction.

GenevaSurely thou hast set them in slipperie places, and castest them downe into desolation.

אַ֣ךְ בַּ֭/חֲלָקוֹת תָּשִׁ֣ית לָ֑/מוֹ הִ֝פַּלְתָּ֗/ם לְ/מַשּׁוּאֽוֹת

How are they brought into desolation as in a moment? they are vtterly consumed with terrours.

GenevaHow suddenly are they destroyed, perished and horribly consumed,

אֵ֤יךְ הָי֣וּ לְ/שַׁמָּ֣ה כְ/רָ֑גַע סָ֥פוּ תַ֝֗מּוּ מִן בַּלָּהֽוֹת

As a dreame when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest thou shalt despise their image.

GenevaAs a dreame when one awaketh! O Lord, when thou raisest vs vp, thou shalt make their image despised.

כַּ/חֲל֥וֹם מֵ/הָקִ֑יץ אֲ֝דֹנָ/י בָּ/עִ֤יר צַלְמָ֬/ם תִּבְזֶֽה

Thus my heart was greeued, and I was pricked in my reines.

GenevaCertainely mine heart was vexed, and I was pricked in my reines:

כִּ֭י יִתְחַמֵּ֣ץ לְבָבִ֑/י וְ֝/כִלְיוֹתַ֗/י אֶשְׁתּוֹנָֽן

So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

וַ/אֲנִי בַ֭עַר וְ/לֹ֣א אֵדָ֑ע בְּ֝הֵמ֗וֹת הָיִ֥יתִי עִמָּֽ/ךְ

Neuerthelesse I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

GenevaYet I was alway with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

וַ/אֲנִ֣י תָמִ֣יד עִמָּ֑/ךְ אָ֝חַ֗זְתָּ בְּ/יַד יְמִינִֽ/י

Thou shalt guide me with thy counsell; and afterward receiue me to glory.

GenevaThou wilt guide me by thy counsell, and afterward receiue me to glory.

בַּ/עֲצָתְ/ךָ֥ תַנְחֵ֑/נִי וְ֝/אַחַ֗ר כָּב֥וֹד תִּקָּחֵֽ/נִי

Whom haue I in heauen but thee? and there is none vpon earth that I desire besides thee.

GenevaWhom haue I in heauen but thee? and I haue desired none in the earth with thee.

מִי לִ֥/י בַ/שָּׁמָ֑יִם וְ֝/עִמְּ/ךָ֗ לֹא חָפַ֥צְתִּי בָ/אָֽרֶץ

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for euer.

GenevaMy flesh fayleth and mine heart also: but God is the strength of mine heart, and my portion for euer.

כָּלָ֥ה שְׁאֵרִ֗/י וּ/לְבָ֫בִ֥/י צוּר לְבָבִ֥/י וְ/חֶלְקִ֗/י אֱלֹהִ֥ים לְ/עוֹלָֽם

For loe, they that are farre from thee, shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that goe awhoring from thee.

GenevaFor loe, they that withdrawe themselues from thee, shall perish: thou destroyest all them that goe a whoring from thee.

כִּֽי הִנֵּ֣ה רְחֵקֶ֣י/ךָ יֹאבֵ֑דוּ הִ֝צְמַ֗תָּה כָּל זוֹנֶ֥ה מִמֶּֽ/ךָּ

But it is good for me, to drawe neere to God: I haue put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I maydeclare all thy workes.

GenevaAs for me, it is good for me to draw neere to God: therefore I haue put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy workes.

וַ/אֲנִ֤י קִֽרֲבַ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֗ים לִ֫/י ט֥וֹב שַׁתִּ֤י בַּ/אדֹנָ֣/י יְהֹוִ֣ה מַחְסִ֑/י לְ֝/סַפֵּ֗ר כָּל מַלְאֲכוֹתֶֽי/ךָ
