Proverbs 14

Euery wise woman buildeth her house; but the foolish plucketh it downe with her hands.

GenevaA wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish destroyeth it with her owne handes.

חַכְמ֣וֹת נָ֭שִׁים בָּנְתָ֣ה בֵיתָ֑/הּ וְ֝/אִוֶּ֗לֶת בְּ/יָדֶ֥י/הָ תֶהֶרְסֶֽ/נּוּ

He that walketh in his vprightnesse, feareth the LORD: but he that is peruerse in his wayes, despiseth him.

GenevaHe that walketh in his righteousnes, feareth the Lord: but he that is lewde in his wayes, despiseth him.

הוֹלֵ֣ךְ בְּ֭/יָשְׁר/וֹ יְרֵ֣א יְהוָ֑ה וּ/נְל֖וֹז דְּרָכָ֣י/ו בּוֹזֵֽ/הוּ

In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lippes of the wise shall preserue them.

בְּֽ/פִי אֱ֭וִיל חֹ֣טֶר גַּאֲוָ֑ה וְ/שִׂפְתֵ֥י חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים תִּשְׁמוּרֵֽ/ם

Where no Oxen are, the crib is cleane: but much increase is by the strength of the Oxe.

GenevaWhere none oxen are, there the cribbe is emptie: but much increase cometh by the strength of the oxe.

בְּ/אֵ֣ין אֲ֭לָפִים אֵב֣וּס בָּ֑ר וְ/רָב תְּ֝בוּא֗וֹת בְּ/כֹ֣חַ שֽׁוֹר

A faithfull witnesse will not lye: but a false witnesse will vtter lyes.

GenevaA faithfull witnes will not lye: but a false record will speake lyes.

עֵ֣ד אֱ֭מוּנִים לֹ֣א יְכַזֵּ֑ב וְ/יָפִ֥יחַ כְּ֝זָבִ֗ים עֵ֣ד שָֽׁקֶר

A scorner seeketh wisedome, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easie vnto him that vnderstandeth.

GenevaA scorner seeketh wisdome, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easie to him that will vnderstande.

בִּקֶּשׁ לֵ֣ץ חָכְמָ֣ה וָ/אָ֑יִן וְ/דַ֖עַת לְ/נָב֣וֹן נָקָֽל

Goe from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceiuest not in him the lippes of knowledge.

לֵ֣ךְ מִ֭/נֶּגֶד לְ/אִ֣ישׁ כְּסִ֑יל וּ/בַל יָ֝דַ֗עְתָּ שִׂפְתֵי דָֽעַת

The wisedome of the prudent is to vnderstand his way: but the folly of fooles is deceit.

GenevaThe wisdome of ye prudent is to vnderstand his way: but the foolishnes of the fooles is deceite.

חָכְמַ֣ת עָ֭רוּם הָבִ֣ין דַּרְכּ֑/וֹ וְ/אִוֶּ֖לֶת כְּסִילִ֣ים מִרְמָֽה

Fooles make a mocke at sinne: but among the righteous there is fauour.

GenevaThe foole maketh a mocke of sinne: but among the righteous there is fauour.

אֱ֭וִלִים יָלִ֣יץ אָשָׁ֑ם וּ/בֵ֖ין יְשָׁרִ֣ים רָצֽוֹן

The heart knoweth his owne bitternesse; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his ioy.

GenevaThe heart knoweth the bitternes of his soule, and the stranger shall not medle with his ioy.

לֵ֗ב י֭וֹדֵעַ מָרַּ֣ת נַפְשׁ֑/וֹ וּ֝/בְ/שִׂמְחָת֗/וֹ לֹא יִתְעָ֥רַב זָֽר

The house of the wicked shall bee ouerthrowen: but the tabernacle of the vpright shall flourish.

GenevaThe house of the wicked shalbe destroyed: but the tabernacle of the righteous shall florish.

בֵּ֣ית רְ֭שָׁעִים יִשָּׁמֵ֑ד וְ/אֹ֖הֶל יְשָׁרִ֣ים יַפְרִֽיחַ

There is a way which seemeth right vnto a man: but the end thereof are the wayes of death.

GenevaThere is a way that seemeth right to a man: but the issues thereof are the wayes of death.

יֵ֤שׁ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יָ֭שָׁר לִ/פְנֵי אִ֑ישׁ וְ֝/אַחֲרִיתָ֗/הּ דַּרְכֵי מָֽוֶת

Euen in laughter the heart is sorrowfull; and the end of that mirth is heauinesse.

GenevaEuen in laughing the heart is sorowful, and the ende of that mirth is heauinesse.

גַּם בִּ/שְׂח֥וֹק יִכְאַב לֵ֑ב וְ/אַחֲרִיתָ֖/הּ שִׂמְחָ֣ה תוּגָֽה

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his owne wayes: and a good man shall be satisfied from himselfe.

GenevaThe heart that declineth, shall be saciate with his owne wayes: but a good man shall depart from him.

מִ/דְּרָכָ֣י/ו יִ֭שְׂבַּע ס֣וּג לֵ֑ב וּ֝/מֵ/עָלָ֗י/ו אִ֣ישׁ טֽוֹב

The simple beleeueth euery word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

GenevaThe foolish will beleeue euery thing: but the prudent will consider his steppes.

פֶּ֭תִי יַאֲמִ֣ין לְ/כָל דָּבָ֑ר וְ֝/עָר֗וּם יָבִ֥ין לַ/אֲשֻׁרֽ/וֹ

A wise man feareth, and departeth from euill: but the foole rageth, and is confident.

GenevaA wise man feareth, and departeth from euill: but a foole rageth, and is carelesse.

חָכָ֣ם יָ֭רֵא וְ/סָ֣ר מֵ/רָ֑ע וּ֝/כְסִ֗יל מִתְעַבֵּ֥ר וּ/בוֹטֵֽחַ

Hee that is soone angry, dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked deuices is hated.

GenevaHe that is hastie to anger, committeth follie, and a busie body is hated.

קְֽצַר אַ֭פַּיִם יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה אִוֶּ֑לֶת וְ/אִ֥ישׁ מְ֝זִמּ֗וֹת יִשָּׂנֵֽא

The simple inherite folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

GenevaThe foolish do inherite follie: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

נָחֲל֣וּ פְתָאיִ֣ם אִוֶּ֑לֶת וַֽ֝/עֲרוּמִ֗ים יַכְתִּ֥רוּ דָֽעַת

The euill bowe before the good: and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

GenevaThe euill shall bowe before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

שַׁח֣וּ רָ֭עִים לִ/פְנֵ֣י טוֹבִ֑ים וּ֝/רְשָׁעִ֗ים עַֽל שַׁעֲרֵ֥י צַדִּֽיק

The poore is hated euen of his owne neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

GenevaThe poore is hated euen of his own neighbour: but the friendes of the rich are many.

גַּם לְ֭/רֵעֵ/הוּ יִשָּׂ֣נֵא רָ֑שׁ וְ/אֹהֲבֵ֖י עָשִׁ֣יר רַבִּֽים

He that despiseth his neighbour, sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poore, happy is he.

GenevaThe sinner despiseth his neighbour: but he that hath mercie on the poore, is blessed.

בָּז לְ/רֵעֵ֥/הוּ חוֹטֵ֑א וּ/מְחוֹנֵ֖ן עניים אַשְׁרָֽי/ו

Doe they not erre that deuise euil? but mercy and trueth shall be to them that deuise good.

GenevaDoe not they erre that imagine euill? but to them that thinke on good things, shalbe mercie and trueth.

הֲֽ/לוֹא יִ֭תְעוּ חֹ֣רְשֵׁי רָ֑ע וְ/חֶ֥סֶד וֶ֝/אֱמֶ֗ת חֹ֣רְשֵׁי טֽוֹב

In all labour there is profit: but the talke of the lippes tendeth onely to penury.

GenevaIn all labour there is abundance: but the talke of the lippes bringeth onely want.

בְּ/כָל עֶ֭צֶב יִהְיֶ֣ה מוֹתָ֑ר וּ/דְבַר שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם אַךְ לְ/מַחְסֽוֹר

The crowne of the wise is their riches: but the foolishnesse of fooles is folly.

GenevaThe crowne of the wise is their riches, and the follie of fooles is foolishnes.

עֲטֶ֣רֶת חֲכָמִ֣ים עָשְׁרָ֑/ם אִוֶּ֖לֶת כְּסִילִ֣ים אִוֶּֽלֶת

A true witnesse deliuereth soules: but a deceitfull witnesse speaketh lyes.

GenevaA faithfull witnes deliuereth soules: but a deceiuer speaketh lyes.

מַצִּ֣יל נְ֭פָשׁוֹת עֵ֣ד אֱמֶ֑ת וְ/יָפִ֖חַ כְּזָבִ֣ים מִרְמָֽה

In the feare of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall haue a place of refuge.

GenevaIn the feare of the Lord is an assured strength, and his children shall haue hope.

בְּ/יִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה מִבְטַח עֹ֑ז וּ֝/לְ/בָנָ֗י/ו יִהְיֶ֥ה מַחְסֶֽה

The feare of the LORD, is a fountaine of life, to depart from the snares of death.

GenevaThe feare of the Lord is as a welspring of life, to auoyde the snares of death.

יִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה מְק֣וֹר חַיִּ֑ים לָ֝/ס֗וּר מִ/מֹּ֥קְשֵׁי מָֽוֶת

In the multitude of people is the kings honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

GenevaIn the multitude of the people is the honour of a King, and for the want of people commeth the destruction of the Prince.

בְּ/רָב עָ֥ם הַדְרַת מֶ֑לֶךְ וּ/בְ/אֶ֥פֶס לְ֝אֹ֗ם מְחִתַּ֥ת רָזֽוֹן

Hee that is slow to wrath, is of great vnderstanding: but hee that is hasty of spirit, exalteth folly.

GenevaHe that is slowe to wrath, is of great wisdome: but he that is of an hastie minde, exalteth follie.

אֶ֣רֶךְ אַ֭פַּיִם רַב תְּבוּנָ֑ה וּ/קְצַר ר֝֗וּחַ מֵרִ֥ים אִוֶּֽלֶת

A sound heart, is the life of the flesh: but enuie, the rottennesse of the bones.

GenevaA sounde heart is the life of the flesh: but enuie is the rotting of the bones.

חַיֵּ֣י בְ֭שָׂרִים לֵ֣ב מַרְפֵּ֑א וּ/רְקַ֖ב עֲצָמ֣וֹת קִנְאָֽה

Hee that oppresseth the poore, reprocheth his Maker: but hee that honoureth him, hath mercy on the poore.

GenevaHe that oppresseth the poore, reprooueth him that made him: but hee honoureth him, that hath mercie on the poore.

עֹ֣שֵֽׁק דָּ֭ל חֵרֵ֣ף עֹשֵׂ֑/הוּ וּ֝/מְכַבְּד֗/וֹ חֹנֵ֥ן אֶבְיֽוֹן

The wicked is driuen away in his wickednes: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

GenevaThe wicked shall be cast away for his malice: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

בְּֽ֭/רָעָת/וֹ יִדָּחֶ֣ה רָשָׁ֑ע וְ/חֹסֶ֖ה בְ/מוֹת֣/וֹ צַדִּֽיק

Wisedome resteth in the heart of him that hath vnderstanding: but that which is in the midst of fooles, is made knowen.

GenevaWisedome resteth in the heart of him that hath vnderstanding, and is knowen in the mids of fooles.

בְּ/לֵ֣ב נָ֭בוֹן תָּנ֣וּחַ חָכְמָ֑ה וּ/בְ/קֶ֥רֶב כְּ֝סִילִ֗ים תִּוָּדֵֽעַ

Righteousnes exalteth a nation: but sinne is a reproch to any people.

GenevaIustice exalteth a nation, but sinne is a shame to the people.

צְדָקָ֥ה תְרֽוֹמֵֽם גּ֑וֹי וְ/חֶ֖סֶד לְאֻמִּ֣ים חַטָּֽאת

The Kings fauour is toward a wise seruant: but his wrath, is against him that causeth shame.

GenevaThe pleasure of a King is in a wise seruant: but his wrath shalbe toward him that is lewde.

רְֽצוֹן מֶ֭לֶךְ לְ/עֶ֣בֶד מַשְׂכִּ֑יל וְ֝/עֶבְרָת֗/וֹ תִּהְיֶ֥ה מֵבִֽישׁ
