Proverbs 13
A wise sonne heareth his fathers instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
GenevaA wise sonne will obey the instruction of his father: but a scorner will heare no rebuke.
בֵּ֣ן חָ֭כָם מ֣וּסַר אָ֑ב וְ֝/לֵ֗ץ לֹא שָׁמַ֥ע גְּעָרָֽה
A man shall eate good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soule of the transgressours, shall eate violence.
GenevaA man shall eate good things by the fruite of his mouth: but the soule of the trespassers shall suffer violence.
מִ/פְּרִ֣י פִי אִ֭ישׁ יֹ֣אכַל ט֑וֹב וְ/נֶ֖פֶשׁ בֹּגְדִ֣ים חָמָֽס
He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his life: but hee that openeth wide his lips, shall haue destruction.
GenevaHee that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his life: but he that openeth his lips, destruction shall be to him.
נֹצֵ֣ר פִּ֭י/ו שֹׁמֵ֣ר נַפְשׁ֑/וֹ פֹּשֵׂ֥ק שְׂ֝פָתָ֗י/ו מְחִתָּה לֽ/וֹ
The soule of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soule of the diligent shall be made fat.
GenevaThe sluggard lusteth, but his soule hath nought: but the soule of the diligent shall haue plentie.
מִתְאַוָּ֣ה וָ֭/אַיִן נַפְשׁ֣/וֹ עָצֵ֑ל וְ/נֶ֖פֶשׁ חָרֻצִ֣ים תְּדֻשָּֽׁן
A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and commeth to shame.
GenevaA righteous man hateth lying wordes: but the wicked causeth slander and shame.
דְּבַר שֶׁ֭קֶר יִשְׂנָ֣א צַדִּ֑יק וְ֝/רָשָׁ֗ע יַבְאִ֥ישׁ וְ/יַחְפִּֽיר
Righteousnesse keepeth him that is vpright in the way: but wickednesse ouerthroweth the sinner.
GenevaRighteousnesse preserueth the vpright of life: but wickednes ouerthroweth the sinner.
צְ֭דָקָה תִּצֹּ֣ר תָּם דָּ֑רֶךְ וְ֝/רִשְׁעָ֗ה תְּסַלֵּ֥ף חַטָּֽאת
There is that maketh himselfe rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himselfe poore, yet hath great riches.
GenevaThere is that maketh himselfe riche, and hath nothing, and that maketh himselfe poore, hauing great riches.
יֵ֣שׁ מִ֭תְעַשֵּׁר וְ/אֵ֣ין כֹּ֑ל מִ֝תְרוֹשֵׁ֗שׁ וְ/ה֣וֹן רָֽב
The ransome of a mans life are his riches: but the poore heareth not rebuke.
GenevaA man will giue his riches for the ransome of his life: but the poore cannot heare ye reproch.
כֹּ֣פֶר נֶֽפֶשׁ אִ֣ישׁ עָשְׁר֑/וֹ וְ֝/רָ֗שׁ לֹא שָׁמַ֥ע גְּעָרָֽה
The light of the righteous reioyceth: but the lampe of the wicked shall be put out.
GenevaThe light of the righteous reioyceth: but the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
אוֹר צַדִּיקִ֥ים יִשְׂמָ֑ח וְ/נֵ֖ר רְשָׁעִ֣ים יִדְעָֽךְ
Onely by pride commeth contention: but with the well aduised is wisedome.
GenevaOnely by pride doeth man make contention: but with the well aduised is wisdome.
רַק בְּ֭/זָדוֹן יִתֵּ֣ן מַצָּ֑ה וְ/אֶת נ֖וֹעָצִ֣ים חָכְמָֽה
Wealth gotten by vanitie shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour, shall increase.
GenevaThe riches of vanitie shall diminish: but he that gathereth with the hand, shall increase them.
ה֭וֹן מֵ/הֶ֣בֶל יִמְעָ֑ט וְ/קֹבֵ֖ץ עַל יָ֣ד יַרְבֶּֽה
Hope deferred maketh the heart sicke: but when the desire commeth, it is a tree of life.
GenevaThe hope that is deferred, is the fainting of the heart: but when the desire commeth, it is as a tree of life.
תּוֹחֶ֣לֶת מְ֭מֻשָּׁכָה מַחֲלָה לֵ֑ב וְ/עֵ֥ץ חַ֝יִּ֗ים תַּאֲוָ֥ה בָאָֽה
Whoso despiseth the word, shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commaundement, shall be rewarded.
GenevaHe that despiseth the worde, hee shall be destroyed: but hee that feareth the commandement he shalbe rewarded.
בָּ֣ז לְ֭/דָבָר יֵחָ֣בֶל ל֑/וֹ וִ/ירֵ֥א מִ֝צְוָ֗ה ה֣וּא יְשֻׁלָּֽם
The lawe of the wise is a fountaine of life, to depart from the snares of death.
GenevaThe instruction of a wise man is as the welspring of life, to turne away from the snares of death.
תּוֹרַ֣ת חָ֭כָם מְק֣וֹר חַיִּ֑ים לָ֝/ס֗וּר מִ/מֹּ֥קְשֵׁי מָֽוֶת
Good vnderstanding giueth fauour: but the way of transgressours is hard.
GenevaGood vnderstanding maketh acceptable: but the way of the disobedient is hated.
שֵֽׂכֶל ט֭וֹב יִתֶּן חֵ֑ן וְ/דֶ֖רֶךְ בֹּגְדִ֣ים אֵיתָֽן
Euery prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a foole layeth open his folly.
GenevaEuery wise man will worke by knowledge: but a foole will spread abroade folly.
כָּל עָ֭רוּם יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה בְ/דָ֑עַת וּ֝/כְסִ֗יל יִפְרֹ֥שׂ אִוֶּֽלֶת
A wicked messenger falleth into mischiefe: but a faithfull ambassadour is health.
GenevaA wicked messenger falleth into euill: but a faithfull ambassadour is preseruation.
מַלְאָ֣ךְ רָ֭שָׁע יִפֹּ֣ל בְּ/רָ֑ע וְ/צִ֖יר אֱמוּנִ֣ים מַרְפֵּֽא
Pouerty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproofe, shall be honoured.
GenevaPouertie and shame is to him that refuseth instruction: but hee that regardeth correction, shalbe honoured.
רֵ֣ישׁ וְ֭/קָלוֹן פּוֹרֵ֣עַ מוּסָ֑ר וְ/שׁוֹמֵ֖ר תּוֹכַ֣חַת יְכֻבָּֽד
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soule: but it is abomination to fooles to depart from euill.
GenevaA desire accomplished deliteth ye soule: but it is an abomination to fooles to depart from euil.
תַּאֲוָ֣ה נִ֭הְיָה תֶּעֱרַ֣ב לְ/נָ֑פֶשׁ וְ/תוֹעֲבַ֥ת כְּ֝סִילִ֗ים ס֣וּר מֵ/רָֽע
He that walketh with wise men, shall be wise: but a companion of fooles shall be destroyed.
GenevaHe that walketh with the wise, shalbe wise: but a companion of fooles shalbe afflicted.
הלוך אֶת חֲכָמִ֣ים ו/חכם וְ/רֹעֶ֖ה כְסִילִ֣ים יֵרֽוֹעַ
Euill pursueth sinners: but to the righteous, good shall be repayd.
GenevaAffliction followeth sinners: but vnto the righteous God will recompense good.
חַ֭טָּאִים תְּרַדֵּ֣ף רָעָ֑ה וְ/אֶת צַ֝דִּיקִ֗ים יְשַׁלֶּם טֽוֹב
A good man leaueth an inheritance to his childrens children: and the wealth of the sinner is layd vp for the iust.
GenevaThe good man shall giue inheritance vnto his childrens children: and the riches of the sinner is layde vp for the iust.
ט֗וֹב יַנְחִ֥יל בְּנֵֽי בָנִ֑ים וְ/צָפ֥וּן לַ֝/צַּדִּ֗יק חֵ֣יל חוֹטֵֽא
Much food is in the tillage of the poore: but there is that is destroyed for want of iudgement.
GenevaMuch foode is in the fielde of the poore: but the fielde is destroyed without discretion.
רָב אֹ֭כֶל נִ֣יר רָאשִׁ֑ים וְ/יֵ֥שׁ נִ֝סְפֶּ֗ה בְּ/לֹ֣א מִשְׁפָּֽט
He that spareth his rod, hateth his sonne: but he that loueth him, chasteneth him betimes.
GenevaHe that spareth his rodde, hateth his sonne: but he that loueth him, chasteneth him betime.
חוֹשֵׂ֣ךְ שִׁ֭בְט/וֹ שׂוֹנֵ֣א בְנ֑/וֹ וְ֝/אֹהֲב֗/וֹ שִֽׁחֲר֥/וֹ מוּסָֽר
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soule: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
GenevaThe righteous eateth to the contentation of his minde: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
צַדִּ֗יק אֹ֭כֵל לְ/שֹׂ֣בַע נַפְשׁ֑/וֹ וּ/בֶ֖טֶן רְשָׁעִ֣ים תֶּחְסָֽר
