Judges 7
Then Ierubbaal (who is Gideon) and all the people that were with him, rose vp earely, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the hoste of the Midianites were on the North side of them by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

וַ/יַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם יְרֻבַּ֜עַל ה֣וּא גִדְע֗וֹן וְ/כָל הָ/עָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֔/וֹ וַֽ/יַּחֲנ֖וּ עַל עֵ֣ין חֲרֹ֑ד וּ/מַחֲנֵ֤ה מִדְיָן֙ הָיָה ל֣/וֹ מִ/צָּפ֔וֹן מִ/גִּבְעַ֥ת הַ/מּוֹרֶ֖ה בָּ/עֵֽמֶק
And the LORD said vnto Gideon, The people that are with thee, are too many for me to giue the Midianites into their handes, lest Israel vaunt themselues against mee, saying, Mine owne hand hath saued me.
GenevaAnd the Lord said vnto Gideon, The people that are with thee, are too many for me to giue the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel make their vaunt against me, and say, Mine hand hath saued mee.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל גִּדְע֔וֹן רַ֗ב הָ/עָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתָּ֔/ךְ מִ/תִּתִּ֥/י אֶת מִדְיָ֖ן בְּ/יָדָ֑/ם פֶּן יִתְפָּאֵ֨ר עָלַ֤/י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר יָדִ֖/י הוֹשִׁ֥יעָה לִּֽ/י
Now therefore go to, proclaime in the eares of the people, saying, Whosoeuer is fearefull and afraid, let him returne and depart earely from mount Gilead: and there returned of the people twentie and two thousand, & there remained ten thousand.
GenevaNow therefore proclaime in the audience of the people, and say, Who so is timerous or fearefull, let him returne, and depart earely from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people which were at mount Gilead, two and twentie thousand: so ten thousand remayned.
וְ/עַתָּ֗ה קְרָ֨א נָ֜א בְּ/אָזְנֵ֤י הָ/עָם֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר מִֽי יָרֵ֣א וְ/חָרֵ֔ד יָשֹׁ֥ב וְ/יִצְפֹּ֖ר מֵ/הַ֣ר הַ/גִּלְעָ֑ד וַ/יָּ֣שָׁב מִן הָ/עָ֗ם עֶשְׂרִ֤ים וּ/שְׁנַ֨יִם֙ אֶ֔לֶף וַ/עֲשֶׂ֥רֶת אֲלָפִ֖ים נִשְׁאָֽרוּ
And the LORD said vnto Gideon, The people are yet too many: bring them downe vnto the water, and I wil trie them for thee there: and it shall bee that of whome I say vnto thee, This shall goe with thee, the same shall goe with thee: and of whomsoeuer I say vnto thee, This shal not goe with thee, the same shall not goe.
GenevaAnd the Lord said vnto Gideon, The people are yet too many: bring them downe vnto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and of whome I say vnto thee, This man shall goe with thee, the same shall go with thee: and of whomsoeuer I say vnto thee, This man shall not goe with thee, the same shall not go.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל גִּדְע֗וֹן עוֹד֮ הָ/עָ֣ם רָב֒ הוֹרֵ֤ד אוֹתָ/ם֙ אֶל הַ/מַּ֔יִם וְ/אֶצְרְפֶ֥/נּוּ לְ/ךָ֖ שָׁ֑ם וְ/הָיָ֡ה אֲשֶׁר֩ אֹמַ֨ר אֵלֶ֜י/ךָ זֶ֣ה יֵלֵ֣ךְ אִתָּ֗/ךְ ה֚וּא יֵלֵ֣ךְ אִתָּ֔/ךְ וְ/כֹ֨ל אֲשֶׁר אֹמַ֜ר אֵלֶ֗י/ךָ זֶ֚ה לֹא יֵלֵ֣ךְ עִמָּ֔/ךְ ה֖וּא לֹ֥א יֵלֵֽךְ
So he brought downe the people vnto the water: and the LORD sayd vnto Gideon, Euery one that lappeth of the water with his tongue as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himselfe, likewise euery one that boweth downe vpon his knees to drinke.
GenevaSo he brought downe the people vnto the water. And the Lord sayd vnto Gideon, As many as lap the water with their tongues, as a dog lappeth, them put by themselues, and euery one that shall bow downe his knees to drinke, put apart.
וַ/יּ֥וֹרֶד אֶת הָ/עָ֖ם אֶל הַ/מָּ֑יִם וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל גִּדְע֗וֹן כֹּ֣ל אֲשֶׁר יָלֹק֩ בִּ/לְשׁוֹנ֨/וֹ מִן הַ/מַּ֜יִם כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֧ר יָלֹ֣ק הַ/כֶּ֗לֶב תַּצִּ֤יג אוֹת/וֹ֙ לְ/בָ֔ד וְ/כֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר יִכְרַ֥ע עַל בִּרְכָּ֖י/ו לִ/שְׁתּֽוֹת
And the number of them that lapped putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed downe vpon their knees to drinke water.
GenevaAnd the nomber of them that lapped by putting their handes to their mouthes, were three hundreth men: but all the remnant of the people kneeled downe vpon their knees to drinke water.
וַ/יְהִ֗י מִסְפַּ֞ר הַֽ/מֲלַקְקִ֤ים בְּ/יָדָ/ם֙ אֶל פִּי/הֶ֔ם שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת אִ֑ישׁ וְ/כֹל֙ יֶ֣תֶר הָ/עָ֔ם כָּרְע֥וּ עַל בִּרְכֵי/הֶ֖ם לִ/שְׁתּ֥וֹת מָֽיִם
And the LORD said vnto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped, will I saue you, and deliuer the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people goe euery man vnto his place.
GenevaThen the Lord sayde vnto Gideon, By these three hundreth men that lapped, will I saue you, and deliuer the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go euery man vnto his place.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל גִּדְע֗וֹן בִּ/שְׁלֹשׁ֩ מֵא֨וֹת הָ/אִ֤ישׁ הַֽ/מֲלַקְקִים֙ אוֹשִׁ֣יעַ אֶתְ/כֶ֔ם וְ/נָתַתִּ֥י אֶת מִדְיָ֖ן בְּ/יָדֶ֑/ךָ וְ/כָל הָ/עָ֔ם יֵלְכ֖וּ אִ֥ישׁ לִ/מְקֹמֽ/וֹ
So the people tooke victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel, euery man vnto his tent, and reteined those three hundred men: and the hoste of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

וַ/יִּקְח֣וּ אֶת צֵדָה֩ הָ/עָ֨ם בְּ/יָדָ֜/ם וְ/אֵ֣ת שׁוֹפְרֹֽתֵי/הֶ֗ם וְ/אֵ֨ת כָּל אִ֤ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ שִׁלַּח֙ אִ֣ישׁ לְ/אֹֽהָלָ֔י/ו וּ/בִ/שְׁלֹשׁ מֵא֥וֹת הָ/אִ֖ישׁ הֶֽחֱזִ֑יק וּ/מַחֲנֵ֣ה מִדְיָ֔ן הָ֥יָה ל֖/וֹ מִ/תַּ֥חַת בָּ/עֵֽמֶק
¶ And it came to passe the same night, that the LORD sayd vnto him, Arise, get thee downe vnto the hoste, for I haue deliuered it into thine hand.

וַֽ/יְהִי֙ בַּ/לַּ֣יְלָה הַ/ה֔וּא וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָי/ו֙ יְהוָ֔ה ק֖וּם רֵ֣ד בַּֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֑ה כִּ֥י נְתַתִּ֖י/ו בְּ/יָדֶֽ/ךָ
But if thou feare to goe downe, goe thou with Phurah thy seruant downe to the hoste.
GenevaBut if thou feare to go downe, then go thou, and Phurah thy seruant downe to the hoste,
וְ/אִם יָרֵ֥א אַתָּ֖ה לָ/רֶ֑דֶת רֵ֥ד אַתָּ֛ה וּ/פֻרָ֥ה נַעַרְ/ךָ֖ אֶל הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶֽה
And thou shalt heare what they say, and afterward shall thine handes be strengthened to goe downe vnto the hoste. Then went hee downe, with Phurah his seruant, vnto the outside of the armed men, that were in the hoste.
GenevaAnd thou shalt hearken what they say, and so shall thine handes be strong to go downe vnto the hoste. Then went he downe and Phurah his seruant vnto the outside of the souldiers that were in the hoste.
וְ/שָֽׁמַעְתָּ֙ מַה יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ וְ/אַחַר֙ תֶּחֱזַ֣קְנָה יָדֶ֔י/ךָ וְ/יָרַדְתָּ֖ בַּֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֑ה וַ/יֵּ֤רֶד הוּא֙ וּ/פֻרָ֣ה נַעֲר֔/וֹ אֶל קְצֵ֥ה הַ/חֲמֻשִׁ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּֽ/מַּחֲנֶֽה
And the Midianites, and the Amalekites, and all the children of the East, lay along in the valley like grashoppers for multitude, and their camels were without number, as the sand by the Sea side for multitude.

וּ/מִדְיָ֨ן וַ/עֲמָלֵ֤ק וְ/כָל בְּנֵי קֶ֨דֶם֙ נֹפְלִ֣ים בָּ/עֵ֔מֶק כָּ/אַרְבֶּ֖ה לָ/רֹ֑ב וְ/לִ/גְמַלֵּי/הֶם֙ אֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֔ר כַּ/ח֛וֹל שֶׁ/עַל שְׂפַ֥ת הַ/יָּ֖ם לָ/רֹֽב
And when Gideon was come, beholde, there was a man that tolde a dreame vnto his fellow, and sayd, Behold, I dreamed a dreame, and loe, a cake of Barley bread tumbled into the hoste of Midian, and came vnto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and ouerturned it, that the tent lay along.
GenevaAnd when Gideon was come, beholde, a man tolde a dreame vnto his neighbour, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dreame, and lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled from aboue into the hoste of Midian, and came vnto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and ouerturned it, that the tent fell downe.
וַ/יָּבֹ֣א גִדְע֔וֹן וְ/הִ֨נֵּה אִ֔ישׁ מְסַפֵּ֥ר לְ/רֵעֵ֖/הוּ חֲל֑וֹם וַ/יֹּ֜אמֶר הִנֵּ֧ה חֲל֣וֹם חָלַ֗מְתִּי וְ/הִנֵּ֨ה צלול לֶ֤חֶם שְׂעֹרִים֙ מִתְהַפֵּךְ֙ בְּ/מַחֲנֵ֣ה מִדְיָ֔ן וַ/יָּבֹ֣א עַד הָ֠/אֹהֶל וַ/יַּכֵּ֧/הוּ וַ/יִּפֹּ֛ל וַ/יַּהַפְכֵ֥/הוּ לְ/מַ֖עְלָ/ה וְ/נָפַ֥ל הָ/אֹֽהֶל
And his fellow answered, and said, This is nothing els saue the sword of Gideon the sonne of Ioash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God deliuered Midian, and all the hoste.
GenevaAnd his fellow answered, and sayde, This is nothing els saue the sworde of Gideon the sonne of Ioash a man of Israel: for into his hande hath God deliuered Midian and all the hoste.
וַ/יַּ֨עַן רֵעֵ֤/הוּ וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אֵ֣ין זֹ֔את בִּלְתִּ֗י אִם חֶ֛רֶב גִּדְע֥וֹן בֶּן יוֹאָ֖שׁ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל נָתַ֤ן הָֽ/אֱלֹהִים֙ בְּ/יָד֔/וֹ אֶת מִדְיָ֖ן וְ/אֶת כָּל הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶֽה
¶ And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dreame, and the interpretation thereof, that hee worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and sayd, Arise, for the LORD hath deliuered into your hand the host of Midian.
GenevaWhen Gideon heard the dreame tolde, and the interpretation of the same, he worshipped, and returned vnto the hoste of Israel, and said, Vp: for the Lord hath deliuered into your hande the hoste of Midian.
וַ/יְהִי֩ כִ/שְׁמֹ֨עַ גִּדְע֜וֹן אֶת מִסְפַּ֧ר הַ/חֲל֛וֹם וְ/אֶת שִׁבְר֖/וֹ וַ/יִּשְׁתָּ֑חוּ וַ/יָּ֨שָׁב֙ אֶל מַחֲנֵ֣ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר ק֔וּמוּ כִּֽי נָתַ֧ן יְהוָ֛ה בְּ/יֶדְ/כֶ֖ם אֶת מַחֲנֵ֥ה מִדְיָֽן
And he diuided the three hundred men into three companies, and hee put a trumpet in euery mans hand, with empty pitchers, and lampes within the pitchers,
GenevaAnd hee deuided the three hundreth men into three bandes, and gaue euery man a trumpet in his hande with emptie pitchers, and lampes within the pitchers.
וַ/יַּ֛חַץ אֶת שְׁלֹשׁ מֵא֥וֹת הָ/אִ֖ישׁ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה רָאשִׁ֑ים וַ/יִּתֵּ֨ן שׁוֹפָר֤וֹת בְּ/יַד כֻּלָּ/ם֙ וְ/כַדִּ֣ים רֵקִ֔ים וְ/לַפִּדִ֖ים בְּ/ת֥וֹךְ הַ/כַּדִּֽים
And hee said vnto them, Looke on mee, and doe likewise; and beholde, when I come to the outside of the campe, it shall be that as I doe, so shall ye doe.
GenevaAnd he sayd vnto them, Looke on me, and do likewise, when I come to the side of the hoste: euen as I do, so do you.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵי/הֶ֔ם מִמֶּ֥/נִּי תִרְא֖וּ וְ/כֵ֣ן תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ וְ/הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֥י בָא֙ בִּ/קְצֵ֣ה הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֔ה וְ/הָיָ֥ה כַ/אֲשֶׁר אֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה כֵּ֥ן תַּעֲשֽׂוּ/ן
When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with mee, then blow ye the trumpets also on euery side of all the campe, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
GenevaWhen I blowe with a trumpet and all that are with me, blowe ye with trumpets also on euery side of the hoste, and say, For the Lord, and for Gideon.
וְ/תָקַעְתִּי֙ בַּ/שּׁוֹפָ֔ר אָנֹכִ֖י וְ/כָל אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתִּ֑/י וּ/תְקַעְתֶּ֨ם בַּ/שּׁוֹפָר֜וֹת גַּם אַתֶּ֗ם סְבִיבוֹת֙ כָּל הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֔ה וַ/אֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם לַ/יהוָ֥ה וּ/לְ/גִדְעֽוֹן
¶ So Gideon and the hundred men that were with him, came vnto the outside of the campe, in the beginning of the middle watch, and they had but newly set the watch, and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

וַ/יָּבֹ֣א גִ֠דְעוֹן וּ/מֵאָה אִ֨ישׁ אֲשֶׁר אִתּ֜/וֹ בִּ/קְצֵ֣ה הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֗ה רֹ֚אשׁ הָ/אַשְׁמֹ֣רֶת הַ/תִּֽיכוֹנָ֔ה אַ֛ךְ הָקֵ֥ם הֵקִ֖ימוּ אֶת הַ/שֹּֽׁמְרִ֑ים וַֽ/יִּתְקְעוּ֙ בַּ/שּׁ֣וֹפָר֔וֹת וְ/נָפ֥וֹץ הַ/כַּדִּ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ/יָדָֽ/ם
And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lampes in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withall: and they cryed, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
GenevaAnd the three companies blew with trumpets and brake the pitchers, and helde the lampes in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right. handes to blowe withall: and they cryed, The sword of the Lord and of Gideon.
וַֽ֠/יִּתְקְעוּ שְׁלֹ֨שֶׁת הָ/רָאשִׁ֥ים בַּ/שּֽׁוֹפָרוֹת֮ וַ/יִּשְׁבְּר֣וּ הַ/כַּדִּים֒ וַ/יַּחֲזִ֤יקוּ בְ/יַד שְׂמאוֹלָ/ם֙ בַּ/לַּפִּדִ֔ים וּ/בְ/יַ֨ד יְמִינָ֔/ם הַ/שּׁוֹפָר֖וֹת לִ/תְק֑וֹעַ וַֽ/יִּקְרְא֔וּ חֶ֥רֶב לַֽ/יהוָ֖ה וּ/לְ/גִדְעֽוֹן
And they stood euery man in his place, round about the campe: and all the host ranne, and cried, and fled.
GenevaAnd they stoode, euery man in his place round about the hoste: and all the hoste ranne, and cryed, and fled.
וַ/יַּֽעַמְדוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ תַּחְתָּ֔י/ו סָבִ֖יב לַֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֑ה וַ/יָּ֧רָץ כָּל הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֛ה וַ/יָּרִ֖יעוּ ו/יניסו
And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set euery mans sword against his fellow, euen throughout all the host: and the host fled to Beth-shittah, in Zererath, and to the border of Abel Meholah, vnto Tabbath.
GenevaAnd the three hundreth blewe with trumpets, and the Lord set euery mans sworde vpon his neighbour, and vpon all the hoste: so the hoste fled to Beth-hashittah in Zererah, and to the border of Abel-meholah, vnto Tabbath.
וַֽ/יִּתְקְעוּ֮ שְׁלֹשׁ מֵא֣וֹת הַ/שּׁוֹפָרוֹת֒ וַ/יָּ֣שֶׂם יְהוָ֗ה אֵ֣ת חֶ֥רֶב אִ֛ישׁ בְּ/רֵעֵ֖/הוּ וּ/בְ/כָל הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֑ה וַ/יָּ֨נָס הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֜ה עַד בֵּ֤ית הַשִּׁטָּה֙ צְֽרֵרָ֔תָ/ה עַ֛ד שְׂפַת אָבֵ֥ל מְחוֹלָ֖ה עַל טַבָּֽת
And the men of Israel gathered themselues together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.

וַ/יִּצָּעֵ֧ק אִֽישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל מִ/נַּפְתָּלִ֥י וּ/מִן אָשֵׁ֖ר וּ/מִן כָּל מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה וַֽ/יִּרְדְּפ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י מִדְיָֽן
¶ And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying; Come downe against the Midianites, and take before them the waters vnto Beth-barah, and Iordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselues together, and tooke the waters vnto Beth-barah, and Iordane.

וּ/מַלְאָכִ֡ים שָׁלַ֣ח גִּדְעוֹן֩ בְּ/כָל הַ֨ר אֶפְרַ֜יִם לֵ/אמֹ֗ר רְד֞וּ לִ/קְרַ֤את מִדְיָן֙ וְ/לִכְד֤וּ לָ/הֶם֙ אֶת הַ/מַּ֔יִם עַ֛ד בֵּ֥ית בָּרָ֖ה וְ/אֶת הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֑ן וַ/יִּצָּעֵ֞ק כָּל אִ֤ישׁ אֶפְרַ֨יִם֙ וַ/יִּלְכְּד֣וּ אֶת הַ/מַּ֔יִם עַ֛ד בֵּ֥ית בָּרָ֖ה וְ/אֶת הַ/יַּרְדֵּֽן
And they tooke two Princes of the Midianites, Oreb, and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb vpon the rocke Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepresse of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb, to Gideon on the other side Iordan.

וַֽ/יִּלְכְּד֡וּ שְׁנֵֽי שָׂרֵ֨י מִדְיָ֜ן אֶת עֹרֵ֣ב וְ/אֶת זְאֵ֗ב וַ/יַּהַרְג֨וּ אֶת עוֹרֵ֤ב בְּ/צוּר עוֹרֵב֙ וְ/אֶת זְאֵב֙ הָרְג֣וּ בְ/יֶֽקֶב זְאֵ֔ב וַֽ/יִּרְדְּפ֖וּ אֶל מִדְיָ֑ן וְ/רֹאשׁ עֹרֵ֣ב וּ/זְאֵ֔ב הֵבִ֨יאוּ֙ אֶל גִּדְע֔וֹן מֵ/עֵ֖בֶר לַ/יַּרְדֵּֽן
