Call now, if there be any that wil answere thee, and to which of the Saints wilt thou turne?

קְֽרָא נָ֭א הֲ/יֵ֣שׁ עוֹנֶ֑/ךָּ וְ/אֶל מִ֖י מִ/קְּדֹשִׁ֣ים תִּפְנֶֽה

For wrath killeth the foolish man, and enuy slayeth the silly one.

GenevaDoubtlesse anger killeth the foolish, and enuie slayeth the idiote.

כִּֽי לֶֽ֭/אֱוִיל יַהֲרָג כָּ֑עַשׂ וּ֝/פֹתֶ֗ה תָּמִ֥ית קִנְאָֽה

I haue seene the foolish taking roote: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

GenevaI haue seene the foolish well rooted, and suddenly I cursed his habitation, saying,

אֲֽנִי רָ֭אִיתִי אֱוִ֣יל מַשְׁרִ֑ישׁ וָ/אֶקּ֖וֹב נָוֵ֣/הוּ פִתְאֹֽם

His children are farre from safetie, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliuer them.

GenevaHis children shalbe farre from saluation, and they shall be destroyed in the gate, and none shall deliuer them.

יִרְחֲק֣וּ בָנָ֣י/ו מִ/יֶּ֑שַׁע וְ/יִֽדַּכְּא֥וּ בַ֝/שַּׁ֗עַר וְ/אֵ֣ין מַצִּֽיל

Whose haruest the hungry eateth vp, and taketh it euen out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth vp their substance.

GenevaThe hungrie shall eate vp his haruest: yea, they shall take it from among the thornes, and the thirstie shall drinke vp their substance.

אֲשֶׁ֤ר קְצִיר֨/וֹ רָ֘עֵ֤ב יֹאכֵ֗ל וְ/אֶֽל מִ/צִּנִּ֥ים יִקָּחֵ֑/הוּ וְ/שָׁאַ֖ף צַמִּ֣ים חֵילָֽ/ם

Although affliction commeth not forth of the dust, neither doeth trouble spring out of the ground:

GenevaFor miserie commeth not foorth of the dust, neither doeth affliction spring out of the earth.

כִּ֤י לֹא יֵצֵ֣א מֵ/עָפָ֣ר אָ֑וֶן וּ֝/מֵ/אֲדָמָ֗ה לֹא יִצְמַ֥ח עָמָֽל

Yet man is borne vnto trouble, as the sparkes flie vpward.

GenevaBut man is borne vnto trauaile, as the sparkes flie vpwarde.

כִּֽי אָ֭דָם לְ/עָמָ֣ל יוּלָּ֑ד וּ/בְנֵי רֶ֝֗שֶׁף יַגְבִּ֥יהוּ עֽוּף

I would seeke vnto God, and vnto God would I commit my cause:

GenevaBut I would inquire at God, and turne my talke vnto God:

אוּלָ֗ם אֲ֭נִי אֶדְרֹ֣שׁ אֶל אֵ֑ל וְ/אֶל אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים אָשִׂ֥ים דִּבְרָתִֽ/י

Which doth great things & vnsearchable: marueilous things without number.

GenevaWhich doeth great things and vnsearchable, and marueilous things without nomber.

עֹשֶׂ֣ה גְ֭דֹלוֹת וְ/אֵ֣ין חֵ֑קֶר נִ֝פְלָא֗וֹת עַד אֵ֥ין מִסְפָּֽר

Who giueth raine vpon the earth, and sendeth waters vpon the fields:

GenevaHe giueth raine vpon the earth, and powreth water vpon the streetes,

הַ/נֹּתֵ֣ן מָ֭טָר עַל פְּנֵי אָ֑רֶץ וְ/שֹׁ֥לֵֽחַ מַ֝יִם עַל פְּנֵ֥י חוּצֽוֹת

To set vp on high those that be low; that those which mourne, may be exalted to safetie.

GenevaAnd setteth vp on hie them that be lowe, that the sorowfull may be exalted to saluation.

לָ/שׂ֣וּם שְׁפָלִ֣ים לְ/מָר֑וֹם וְ֝/קֹדְרִ֗ים שָׂ֣גְבוּ יֶֽשַׁע

Hee disappointeth the deuices of the craftie, so that their hands cannot performe their enterprise.

GenevaHe scattereth the deuices of the craftie: so that their handes can not accomplish that which they doe enterprise.

מֵ֭פֵר מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת עֲרוּמִ֑ים וְֽ/לֹא תַעֲשֶׂ֥ינָה יְ֝דֵי/הֶ֗ם תּוּשִׁיָּֽה

He taketh the wise in their owne craftinesse: and the counsell of the froward is caried headlong.

GenevaHe taketh the wise in their craftinesse, and the counsel of the wicked is made foolish.

לֹכֵ֣ד חֲכָמִ֣ים בְּ/עָרְמָ֑/ם וַ/עֲצַ֖ת נִפְתָּלִ֣ים נִמְהָֽרָה

They meete with darkenesse in the day time, and grope in the noone day as in the night.

GenevaThey meete with darkenesse in the day time, and grope at noone day, as in the night.

יוֹמָ֥ם יְפַגְּשׁוּ חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וְ֝/כַ/לַּ֗יְלָה יְֽמַשְׁשׁ֥וּ בַֽ/צָּהֳרָֽיִם

But he saueth the poore from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mightie.

GenevaBut he saueth the poore from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hande of the violent man,

וַ/יֹּ֣שַׁע מֵ֭/חֶרֶב מִ/פִּי/הֶ֑ם וּ/מִ/יַּ֖ד חָזָ֣ק אֶבְיֽוֹן

So the poore hath hope, and iniquitie stoppeth her mouth.

GenevaSo that the poore hath his hope, but iniquitie shall stop her mouth.

וַ/תְּהִ֣י לַ/דַּ֣ל תִּקְוָ֑ה וְ֝/עֹלָ֗תָ/ה קָ֣פְצָה פִּֽי/הָ

Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almightie.

GenevaBeholde, blessed is the man whome God correcteth: therefore refuse not thou the chastising of the Almightie.

הִנֵּ֤ה אַשְׁרֵ֣י אֱ֭נוֹשׁ יוֹכִחֶ֣/נּֽוּ אֱל֑וֹהַּ וּ/מוּסַ֥ר שַׁ֝דַּ֗י אַל תִּמְאָֽס

For he maketh sore, and bindeth vp: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

GenevaFor he maketh the wound, and bindeth it vp: he smiteth, and his handes make whole.

כִּ֤י ה֣וּא יַכְאִ֣יב וְ/יֶחְבָּ֑שׁ יִ֝מְחַ֗ץ ו/יד/ו תִּרְפֶּֽינָה

Hee shall deliuer thee in sixe troubles, yea in seuen there shall no euill touch thee.

GenevaHe shall deliuer thee in sixe troubles, and in the seuenth the euill shall not touch thee.

בְּ/שֵׁ֣שׁ צָ֭רוֹת יַצִּילֶ֑/ךָּ וּ/בְ/שֶׁ֓בַע לֹא יִגַּ֖ע בְּ/ךָ֣ רָֽע

In famine he shall redeeme thee from death: and in warre from the power of the sword.

GenevaIn famine he shall deliuer thee from death: and in battel from the power of the sworde.

בְּ֭/רָעָב פָּֽדְ/ךָ֣ מִ/מָּ֑וֶת וּ֝/בְ/מִלְחָמָ֗ה מִ֣/ידֵי חָֽרֶב

Thou shalt be hidde from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction, when it commeth.

בְּ/שׁ֣וֹט לָ֭שׁוֹן תֵּחָבֵ֑א וְֽ/לֹא תִירָ֥א מִ֝/שֹּׁ֗ד כִּ֣י יָבֽוֹא

At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

GenevaBut thou shalt laugh at destruction and dearth, and shalt not be afraide of the beast of the earth.

לְ/שֹׁ֣ד וּ/לְ/כָפָ֣ן תִּשְׂחָ֑ק וּֽ/מֵ/חַיַּ֥ת הָ֝/אָ֗רֶץ אַל תִּירָֽא

For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

GenevaFor the stones of the fielde shall be in league with thee, and the beastes of the field shall be at peace with thee.

כִּ֤י עִם אַבְנֵ֣י הַ/שָּׂדֶ֣ה בְרִיתֶ֑/ךָ וְ/חַיַּ֥ת הַ֝/שָּׂדֶ֗ה הָשְׁלְמָה לָֽ/ךְ

And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall bee in peace; and thou shalt visite thy habitation, and shalt not sinne.

GenevaAnd thou shalt knowe, that peace shall be in thy tabernacle, and thou shalt visite thine habitation, and shalt not sinne.

וְֽ֭/יָדַעְתָּ כִּי שָׁל֣וֹם אָהֳלֶ֑/ךָ וּֽ/פָקַדְתָּ֥ נָ֝וְ/ךָ וְ/לֹ֣א תֶחֱטָֽא

Thou shalt know also that thy seede shalbe great, and thine offspring as the grasse of the earth.

GenevaThou shalt perceiue also, that thy seede shalbe great, and thy posteritie as the grasse of the earth.

וְֽ֭/יָדַעְתָּ כִּי רַ֣ב זַרְעֶ֑/ךָ וְ֝/צֶאֱצָאֶ֗י/ךָ כְּ/עֵ֣שֶׂב הָ/אָֽרֶץ

Thou shalt come to thy graue in a full age, like as a shocke of corne commeth in, in his season.

GenevaThou shalt goe to thy graue in a ful age, as a ricke of corne commeth in due season into the barne.

תָּב֣וֹא בְ/כֶ֣לַח אֱלֵי קָ֑בֶר כַּ/עֲל֖וֹת גָּדִ֣ישׁ בְּ/עִתּֽ/וֹ

Loe this, wee haue searched it, so it is; heare it, and know thou it for thy good.

GenevaLo, thus haue we inquired of it, and so it is: heare this and knowe it for thy selfe.

הִנֵּה זֹ֭את חֲקַרְנ֥וּ/הָ כֶּֽן הִ֑יא שְׁ֝מָעֶ֗/נָּה וְ/אַתָּ֥ה דַֽע לָֽ/ךְ
