Isaiah 3

For behold, the Lord, the LORD of hostes doeth take away from Ierusalem, and from Iudah, the stay and the staffe, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water,

GenevaFor lo, the Lord God of hostes will take away from Ierusalem and from Iudah the stay and the strength: euen all the staye of bread, and all the stay of water,

כִּי֩ הִנֵּ֨ה הָ/אָד֜וֹן יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֗וֹת מֵסִ֤יר מִ/ירוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ וּ/מִ֣/יהוּדָ֔ה מַשְׁעֵ֖ן וּ/מַשְׁעֵנָ֑ה כֹּ֚ל מִשְׁעַן לֶ֔חֶם וְ/כֹ֖ל מִשְׁעַן מָֽיִם

The mighty man, and the man of warre; the Iudge and the Prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient,

GenevaThe strong man, and the man of warre, the iudge and the prophet, the prudent and the aged,

גִּבּ֖וֹר וְ/אִ֣ישׁ מִלְחָמָ֑ה שׁוֹפֵ֥ט וְ/נָבִ֖יא וְ/קֹסֵ֥ם וְ/זָקֵֽן

The captaine of fiftie, and the honourable man, and the counseller, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent oratour.

GenevaThe captaine of fiftie, and the honourable, and the counseller, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent man.

שַׂר חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים וּ/נְשׂ֣וּא פָנִ֑ים וְ/יוֹעֵ֛ץ וַ/חֲכַ֥ם חֲרָשִׁ֖ים וּ/נְב֥וֹן לָֽחַשׁ

And I will giue children to bee their Princes, and babes shall rule ouer them.

GenevaAnd I will appoint children to bee their princes, and babes shall rule ouer them.

וְ/נָתַתִּ֥י נְעָרִ֖ים שָׂרֵי/הֶ֑ם וְ/תַעֲלוּלִ֖ים יִמְשְׁלוּ בָֽ/ם

And the people shall be oppressed, euery one by another, and euery one by his neighbour: the childe shall behaue himselfe proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.

GenevaThe people shalbe oppressed one of another, and euery one by his neighbour: the children shall presume against the ancient, and the vile against the honourable.

וְ/נִגַּ֣שׂ הָ/עָ֔ם אִ֥ישׁ בְּ/אִ֖ישׁ וְ/אִ֣ישׁ בְּ/רֵעֵ֑/הוּ יִרְהֲב֗וּ הַ/נַּ֨עַר֙ בַּ/זָּקֵ֔ן וְ/הַ/נִּקְלֶ֖ה בַּ/נִּכְבָּֽד

When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, saying, Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let this ruine bee vnder thy hand:

GenevaWhen euery one shall take holde of his brother of the house of his father, and say, Thou hast clothing: thou shalt bee our prince, and let this fall be vnder thine hand.

כִּֽי יִתְפֹּ֨שׂ אִ֤ישׁ בְּ/אָחִי/ו֙ בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֔י/ו שִׂמְלָ֣ה לְ/כָ֔ה קָצִ֖ין תִּֽהְיֶה לָּ֑/נוּ וְ/הַ/מַּכְשֵׁלָ֥ה הַ/זֹּ֖את תַּ֥חַת יָדֶֽ/ךָ

In that day shall he sweare, saying, I will not be an healer: for in my house is neither bread nor clothing: make me not a ruler of the people.

GenevaIn that day hee shall sweare, saying, I cannot bee an helper: for there is no bread in mine house, nor clothing: therefore make me no prince of the people.

יִשָּׂא֩ בַ/יּ֨וֹם הַ/ה֤וּא לֵ/אמֹר֙ לֹא אֶהְיֶ֣ה חֹבֵ֔שׁ וּ/בְ/בֵיתִ֕/י אֵ֥ין לֶ֖חֶם וְ/אֵ֣ין שִׂמְלָ֑ה לֹ֥א תְשִׂימֻ֖/נִי קְצִ֥ין עָֽם

For Ierusalem is ruined, & Iudah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to prouoke the eyes of his glorie.

GenevaDoubtlesse Ierusalem is fallen, and Iudah is fallen downe, because their tongue and workes are against the Lord, to prouoke the eyes of his glory.

כִּ֤י כָשְׁלָה֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וִ/יהוּדָ֖ה נָפָ֑ל כִּֽי לְשׁוֹנָ֤/ם וּ/מַֽעַלְלֵי/הֶם֙ אֶל יְהוָ֔ה לַ/מְר֖וֹת עֵנֵ֥י כְבוֹדֽ/וֹ

¶ The shew of their countenance doeth witnesse against them, and they declare their sinne as Sodom, they hide it not: woe vnto their soule, for they haue rewarded euill vnto themselues.

GenevaThe triall of their countenance testifieth against them, yea, they declare their sinnes as Sodom, they hide them not. Wo be vnto their soules: for they haue rewarded euil vnto themselues.

הַכָּרַ֤ת פְּנֵי/הֶם֙ עָ֣נְתָה בָּ֔/ם וְ/חַטָּאתָ֛/ם כִּ/סְדֹ֥ם הִגִּ֖ידוּ לֹ֣א כִחֵ֑דוּ א֣וֹי לְ/נַפְשָׁ֔/ם כִּֽי גָמְל֥וּ לָ/הֶ֖ם רָעָֽה

Say yee to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eate the fruit of their doings.

GenevaSay ye, Surely it shalbe well with the iust: for they shall eate the fruite of their workes.

אִמְר֥וּ צַדִּ֖יק כִּי ט֑וֹב כִּֽי פְרִ֥י מַעַלְלֵי/הֶ֖ם יֹאכֵֽלוּ

Woe vnto the wicked, it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his handes shalbe giuen him.

GenevaWoe be to the wicked, it shalbe euill with him: for the reward of his handes shalbe giuen him.

א֖וֹי לְ/רָשָׁ֣ע רָ֑ע כִּֽי גְמ֥וּל יָדָ֖י/ו יֵעָ֥שֶׂה לּֽ/וֹ

¶ As for my people, children are their oppressours, and women rule ouer them: O my people, they which lead thee, cause thee to erre, and destroy the way of thy paths.

GenevaChildren are extortioners of my people, and women haue rule ouer them: O my people, they that leade thee, cause thee to erre, and destroy the way of thy paths.

עַמִּ/י֙ נֹגְשָׂ֣י/ו מְעוֹלֵ֔ל וְ/נָשִׁ֖ים מָ֣שְׁלוּ ב֑/וֹ עַמִּ/י֙ מְאַשְּׁרֶ֣י/ךָ מַתְעִ֔ים וְ/דֶ֥רֶךְ אֹֽרְחֹתֶ֖י/ךָ בִּלֵּֽעוּ

The LORD standeth vp to plead, and standeth to iudge the people.

GenevaThe Lord standeth vp to pleade, yea, hee standeth to iudge the people.

נִצָּ֥ב לָ/רִ֖יב יְהוָ֑ה וְ/עֹמֵ֖ד לָ/דִ֥ין עַמִּֽים

The LORD will enter into iudgement with the ancients of his people, and the Princes thereof: for ye haue eaten vp the Uineyard; the spoile of the poore is in your houses.

GenevaThe Lord shall enter into iudgement with the Ancients of his people and the princes thereof: for ye haue eaten vp the vineyarde: the spoyle of the poore is in your houses.

יְהוָה֙ בְּ/מִשְׁפָּ֣ט יָב֔וֹא עִם זִקְנֵ֥י עַמּ֖/וֹ וְ/שָׂרָ֑י/ו וְ/אַתֶּם֙ בִּֽעַרְתֶּ֣ם הַ/כֶּ֔רֶם גְּזֵלַ֥ת הֶֽ/עָנִ֖י בְּ/בָתֵּי/כֶֽם

What meane yee that yee beat my people to pieces, and grinde the faces of the poore, saith the Lord GOD of hosts?

GenevaWhat haue ye to do, that ye beate my people to pieces, and grinde the faces of the poore, saith the Lord, euen the Lord of hoasts?

מ/ל/כם תְּדַכְּא֣וּ עַמִּ֔/י וּ/פְנֵ֥י עֲנִיִּ֖ים תִּטְחָ֑נוּ נְאֻם אֲדֹנָ֥/י יְהוִ֖ה צְבָאֽוֹת

¶ Moreouer the LORD saith; Because the daughters of Zion are hautie, and walke with stretched forth necks, and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they goe, and making a tinkeling with their feet:

GenevaThe Lord also saith, Because the daughters of Zion are hautie, and walke with stretched out neckes, and with wandering eyes, walking and minsing as they goe, and making a tinkeling with their feete,

וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה יַ֚עַן כִּ֤י גָֽבְהוּ֙ בְּנ֣וֹת צִיּ֔וֹן וַ/תֵּלַ֨כְנָה֙ נטוות גָּר֔וֹן וּֽ/מְשַׂקְּר֖וֹת עֵינָ֑יִם הָל֤וֹךְ וְ/טָפֹף֙ תֵּלַ֔כְנָה וּ/בְ/רַגְלֵי/הֶ֖ם תְּעַכַּֽסְנָה

Therefore the LORD will smite with a scab the crowne of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will discouer their secret parts.

GenevaTherefore shall the Lord make the heades of the daughters of Zion balde, and the Lord shall discouer their secrete partes.

וְ/שִׂפַּ֣ח אֲדֹנָ֔/י קָדְקֹ֖ד בְּנ֣וֹת צִיּ֑וֹן וַ/יהוָ֖ה פָּתְ/הֵ֥ן יְעָרֶֽה

In that day the Lord will take away the brauery of their tinckling ornaments about their feete, and their caules, and their round tyres like the Moone.

GenevaIn that day shall the Lord take away the ornament of the slippers, and the calles, and the round tyres,

בַּ/יּ֨וֹם הַ/ה֜וּא יָסִ֣יר אֲדֹנָ֗/י אֵ֣ת תִּפְאֶ֧רֶת הָ/עֲכָסִ֛ים וְ/הַ/שְּׁבִיסִ֖ים וְ/הַ/שַּׂהֲרֹנִֽים

The chaines, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,

GenevaThe sweete balles, and the brasselets, and the bonnets,

הַ/נְּטִיפ֥וֹת וְ/הַ/שֵּׁיר֖וֹת וְ/הָֽ/רְעָלֽוֹת

The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legges, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earerings,

GenevaThe tyres of the head, and the sloppes, and the head bandes, and the tablets, and the earings,

הַ/פְּאֵרִ֤ים וְ/הַ/צְּעָדוֹת֙ וְ/הַ/קִּשֻּׁרִ֔ים וּ/בָתֵּ֥י הַ/נֶּ֖פֶשׁ וְ/הַ/לְּחָשִֽׁים

The rings, and nose-iewels,

GenevaThe rings and the mufflers,

הַ/טַּבָּע֖וֹת וְ/נִזְמֵ֥י הָ/אָֽף

The changeable sutes of apparell, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pinnes,

GenevaThe costly apparell and the vailes, and the wimples, and the crisping pinnes,

הַ/מַּֽחֲלָצוֹת֙ וְ/הַ/מַּ֣עֲטָפ֔וֹת וְ/הַ/מִּטְפָּח֖וֹת וְ/הָ/חֲרִיטִֽים

The glasses, and the fine linnen, and the hoods, and the vailes.

GenevaAnd the glasses and the fine linen, and the hoodes, and the launes.

וְ/הַ/גִּלְיֹנִים֙ וְ/הַ/סְּדִינִ֔ים וְ/הַ/צְּנִיפ֖וֹת וְ/הָ/רְדִידִֽים

And it shall come to passe, that in steade of sweete smell, there shall bee stinke; and in stead of a girdle, a rent; and in stead of well set haire, baldnesse; and in stead of a stomacher, a girding of sackecloth; and burning, in stead of beautie.

וְ/הָיָה֩ תַ֨חַת בֹּ֜שֶׂם מַ֣ק יִֽהְיֶ֗ה וְ/תַ֨חַת חֲגוֹרָ֤ה נִקְפָּה֙ וְ/תַ֨חַת מַעֲשֶׂ֤ה מִקְשֶׁה֙ קָרְחָ֔ה וְ/תַ֥חַת פְּתִיגִ֖יל מַחֲגֹ֣רֶת שָׂ֑ק כִּי תַ֖חַת יֹֽפִי

Thy men shall fall by the sword, and thy mightie in the warre.

GenevaThy men shall fall by the sworde, and thy strength in the battell.

מְתַ֖יִ/ךְ בַּ/חֶ֣רֶב יִפֹּ֑לוּ וּ/גְבוּרָתֵ֖/ךְ בַּ/מִּלְחָמָֽה

And her gates shall lament and mourne; and she being desolate, shall sit vpon the ground.

GenevaThen shall her gates mourne and lament, and she, being desolate, shall sit vpon the ground.

וְ/אָנ֥וּ וְ/אָבְל֖וּ פְּתָחֶ֑י/הָ וְ/נִקָּ֖תָה לָ/אָ֥רֶץ תֵּשֵֽׁב
