Chapter 10
Isaiah 10
Woe vnto them that decree vnrighteous decrees, and that write grieuousnesse which they haue prescribed:
GenevaWoe vnto them that decree wicked decrees, and write grieuous things,
ה֥וֹי הַ/חֹֽקְקִ֖ים חִקְקֵי אָ֑וֶן וּֽ/מְכַתְּבִ֥ים עָמָ֖ל כִּתֵּֽבוּ
To turne aside the needy from iudgement, and to take away the right from the poore of my people, that widdowes may be their pray, and that they may robbe the fatherles.
GenevaTo keepe backe ye poore from iudgement, and to take away the iudgement of the poore of my people, that widowes may be their pray, and that they may spoyle the fatherlesse.
לְ/הַטּ֤וֹת מִ/דִּין֙ דַּלִּ֔ים וְ/לִ/גְזֹ֕ל מִשְׁפַּ֖ט עֲנִיֵּ֣י עַמִּ֑/י לִ/הְי֤וֹת אַלְמָנוֹת֙ שְׁלָלָ֔/ם וְ/אֶת יְתוֹמִ֖ים יָבֹֽזּוּ
And what wil ye doe in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from farre? To whom wil ye flee for helpe? And where will yee leaue your glory?
GenevaWhat will ye doe nowe in the day of visitation, and of destruction, which shall come from farre? to whom will ye flee for helpe? and where will ye leaue your glorie?
וּ/מַֽה תַּעֲשׂוּ֙ לְ/י֣וֹם פְּקֻדָּ֔ה וּ/לְ/שׁוֹאָ֖ה מִ/מֶּרְחָ֣ק תָּב֑וֹא עַל מִי֙ תָּנ֣וּסוּ לְ/עֶזְרָ֔ה וְ/אָ֥נָה תַעַזְב֖וּ כְּבוֹדְ/כֶֽם
Without mee they shall bowe downe vnder the prisoners, and they shall fall vnder the slaine: for all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
GenevaWithout me euery one shall fall among them that are bound, and they shall fall downe among the slayne: yet for all this his wrath is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
בִּלְתִּ֤י כָרַע֙ תַּ֣חַת אַסִּ֔יר וְ/תַ֥חַת הֲרוּגִ֖ים יִפֹּ֑לוּ בְּ/כָל זֹאת֙ לֹא שָׁ֣ב אַפּ֔/וֹ וְ/ע֖וֹד יָד֥/וֹ נְטוּיָֽה
¶ O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staffe in their hand is mine indignation.
GenevaO Asshur, the rodde of my wrath: and the staffe in their hands is mine indignation.
ה֥וֹי אַשּׁ֖וּר שֵׁ֣בֶט אַפִּ֑/י וּ/מַטֶּה ה֥וּא בְ/יָדָ֖/ם זַעְמִֽ/י
I will send him against an hypocriticall nation, and against the people of my wrath will I giue him a charge to take the spoile, and to take the praye, and to tread them downe like the mire of the streets.
GenevaI will sende him to a dissembling nation, and I will giue him a charge against the people of my wrath to take the spoyle and to take the pray, and to treade them vnder feete like the mire in the streete.
בְּ/ג֤וֹי חָנֵף֙ אֲשַׁלְּחֶ֔/נּוּ וְ/עַל עַ֥ם עֶבְרָתִ֖/י אֲצַוֶּ֑/נּוּ לִ/שְׁלֹ֤ל שָׁלָל֙ וְ/לָ/בֹ֣ז בַּ֔ז ו/ל/שימ/ו מִרְמָ֖ס כְּ/חֹ֥מֶר חוּצֽוֹת
Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart thinke so, but it is in his heart to destroy, and cut off nations not a few.
GenevaBut he thinketh not so, neither doeth his heart esteeme it so: but he imagineth to destroy and to cut off not a fewe nations.
וְ/הוּא֙ לֹא כֵ֣ן יְדַמֶּ֔ה וּ/לְבָב֖/וֹ לֹא כֵ֣ן יַחְשֹׁ֑ב כִּ֚י לְ/הַשְׁמִ֣יד בִּ/לְבָב֔/וֹ וּ/לְ/הַכְרִ֥ית גּוֹיִ֖ם לֹ֥א מְעָֽט
For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?
GenevaFor he sayeth, Are not my princes altogether Kings?
כִּ֖י יֹאמַ֑ר הֲ/לֹ֥א שָׂרַ֛/י יַחְדָּ֖ו מְלָכִֽים
Is not Calno, as Carchemish? Is not Hamath, as Arpad? Is not Samaria, as Damascus?
GenevaIs not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?
הֲ/לֹ֥א כְּ/כַרְכְּמִ֖ישׁ כַּלְנ֑וֹ אִם לֹ֤א כְ/אַרְפַּד֙ חֲמָ֔ת אִם לֹ֥א כְ/דַמֶּ֖שֶׂק שֹׁמְרֽוֹן
As my hand hath found the kingdomes of the idoles, and whose grauen images did excell them of Ierusalem and of Samaria:
GenevaLike as mine hand hath founde the kingdomes of the idoles, seeing their idoles were aboue Ierusalem, and aboue Samaria:
כַּ/אֲשֶׁר֙ מָצְאָ֣ה יָדִ֔/י לְ/מַמְלְכֹ֖ת הָ/אֱלִ֑יל וּ/פְסִ֣ילֵי/הֶ֔ם מִ/ירֽוּשָׁלִַ֖ם וּ/מִ/שֹּׁמְרֽוֹן
Shall I not, as I haue done vnto Samaria and her idoles, so doe to Ierusalem and her idoles?
GenevaShall not I, as I haue done to Samaria, and to the idoles thereof, so doe to Ierusalem and to the idoles thereof?
הֲ/לֹ֗א כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֛יתִי לְ/שֹׁמְר֖וֹן וְ/לֶ/אֱלִילֶ֑י/הָ כֵּ֛ן אֶעֱשֶׂ֥ה לִ/ירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם וְ/לַ/עֲצַבֶּֽי/הָ
Wherefore it shall come to passe, that when the Lord hath performed his whole worke vpon mount Zion, and on Ierusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high lookes.
GenevaBut when the Lord hath accomplished all his worke vpon mount Zion and Ierusalem, I will visite the fruite of the proude heart of the King of Asshur, and his glorious and proud lookes,
וְ/הָיָ֗ה כִּֽי יְבַצַּ֤ע אֲדֹנָ/י֙ אֶת כָּל מַֽעֲשֵׂ֔/הוּ בְּ/הַ֥ר צִיּ֖וֹן וּ/בִ/ירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם אֶפְקֹ֗ד עַל פְּרִי גֹ֨דֶל֙ לְבַ֣ב מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר וְ/עַל תִּפְאֶ֖רֶת ר֥וּם עֵינָֽי/ו
For hee saith, By the strength of my hand I haue done it, and by my wisedome, for I am prudent: and I haue remooued the bounds of the people, and haue robbed their treasures, and I haue put downe the inhabitants like a valiant man.
GenevaBecause he said, By ye power of mine owne hand haue I done it, and by my wisdome, because I am wise: therefore I haue remooued the borders of the people, and haue spoyled their treasures, and haue pulled downe the inhabitants like a valiant man.
כִּ֣י אָמַ֗ר בְּ/כֹ֤חַ יָדִ/י֙ עָשִׂ֔יתִי וּ/בְ/חָכְמָתִ֖/י כִּ֣י נְבֻנ֑וֹתִי וְ/אָסִ֣יר גְּבוּלֹ֣ת עַמִּ֗ים ו/עתידתי/הם שׁוֹשֵׂ֔תִי וְ/אוֹרִ֥יד כַּ/אבִּ֖יר יוֹשְׁבִֽים
And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth egges that are left, haue I gathered all the earth, and there was none that moued the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

וַ/תִּמְצָ֨א כַ/קֵּ֤ן יָדִ/י֙ לְ/חֵ֣יל הָֽ/עַמִּ֔ים וְ/כֶ/אֱסֹף֙ בֵּיצִ֣ים עֲזֻב֔וֹת כָּל הָ/אָ֖רֶץ אֲנִ֣י אָסָ֑פְתִּי וְ/לֹ֤א הָיָה֙ נֹדֵ֣ד כָּנָ֔ף וּ/פֹצֶ֥ה פֶ֖ה וּ/מְצַפְצֵֽף
Shall the axe boast it selfe against him that heweth therewith? Or shal the sawe magnifie it selfe against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake it selfe against them that lift it vp, or as if the staffe should lift vp it selfe, as if it were no wood.

הֲ/יִתְפָּאֵר֙ הַ/גַּרְזֶ֔ן עַ֖ל הַ/חֹצֵ֣ב בּ֑/וֹ אִם יִתְגַּדֵּ֤ל הַ/מַּשּׂוֹר֙ עַל מְנִיפ֔/וֹ כְּ/הָנִ֥יף שֵׁ֨בֶט֙ וְ/אֶת מְרִימָ֔י/ו כְּ/הָרִ֥ים מַטֶּ֖ה לֹא עֵֽץ
Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leannesse, and vnder his glory hee shall kindle a burning, like the burning of a fire.
GenevaTherefore shall the Lord God of hostes send amog his fat men, leannes, and vnder his glorie he shall kindle a burning, like the burning of fire.
לָ֠/כֵן יְשַׁלַּ֨ח הָ/אָד֜וֹן יְהוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת בְּ/מִשְׁמַנָּ֖י/ו רָז֑וֹן וְ/תַ֧חַת כְּבֹד֛/וֹ יֵקַ֥ד יְקֹ֖ד כִּ/יק֥וֹד אֵֽשׁ
And the light of Israel shall bee for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burne and deuoure his thornes and his briers in one day:
GenevaAnd the light of Israel shalbe as a fire, and the Holy one thereof as a flame, and it shall burne, and deuoure his thornes and his briers in one day:
וְ/הָיָ֤ה אֽוֹר יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לְ/אֵ֔שׁ וּ/קְדוֹשׁ֖/וֹ לְ/לֶהָבָ֑ה וּ/בָעֲרָ֗ה וְ/אָֽכְלָ֛ה שִׁית֥/וֹ וּ/שְׁמִיר֖/וֹ בְּ/י֥וֹם אֶחָֽד
And shall consume the glory of his forrest, and of his fruitfull field both soule and body: and they shall bee as when a standerd bearer fainteth.
GenevaAnd shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitfull fieldes both soule and flesh: and he shalbe as ye fainting of a standard bearer.
וּ/כְב֤וֹד יַעְר/וֹ֙ וְ/כַרְמִלּ֔/וֹ מִ/נֶּ֥פֶשׁ וְ/עַד בָּשָׂ֖ר יְכַלֶּ֑ה וְ/הָיָ֖ה כִּ/מְסֹ֥ס נֹסֵֽס
And the rest of the trees of his forrest shall be few, that a child may write them.
GenevaAnd the rest of the trees of his forest shalbe fewe, that a childe may tell them.
וּ/שְׁאָ֥ר עֵ֛ץ יַעְר֖/וֹ מִסְפָּ֣ר יִֽהְי֑וּ וְ/נַ֖עַר יִכְתְּבֵֽ/ם
¶ And it shal come to passe in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Iacob, shall no more againe stay vpon him that smote them: but shall stay vpon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel in trueth.
GenevaAnd at that day shall the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Iaakob, stay no more vpon him that smote them, but shall stay vpon ye Lord, ye Holy one of Israel in trueth.
וְ/הָיָ֣ה בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֗וּא לֹֽא יוֹסִ֨יף ע֜וֹד שְׁאָ֤ר יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וּ/פְלֵיטַ֣ת בֵּֽית יַעֲקֹ֔ב לְ/הִשָּׁעֵ֖ן עַל מַכֵּ֑/הוּ וְ/נִשְׁעַ֗ן עַל יְהוָ֛ה קְד֥וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בֶּ/אֱמֶֽת
The remnant shall returne, euen the remnant of Iacob, vnto the mightie God.
GenevaThe remnant shall returne, euen the remnant of Iaakob vnto the mightie God.
שְׁאָ֥ר יָשׁ֖וּב שְׁאָ֣ר יַעֲקֹ֑ב אֶל אֵ֖ל גִּבּֽוֹר
For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall returne: the consumption decreed shall ouerflow with righteousnesse.

כִּ֣י אִם יִהְיֶ֞ה עַמְּ/ךָ֤ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ כְּ/ח֣וֹל הַ/יָּ֔ם שְׁאָ֖ר יָשׁ֣וּב בּ֑/וֹ כִּלָּי֥וֹן חָר֖וּץ שׁוֹטֵ֥ף צְדָקָֽה
For the Lord GOD of hostes shall make a consumption, euen determined in the middest of all the land.
GenevaFor the Lord God of hostes shall make the consumption, euen determined, in the middes of all the land.
כִּ֥י כָלָ֖ה וְ/נֶחֱרָצָ֑ה אֲדֹנָ֤/י יְהוִה֙ צְבָא֔וֹת עֹשֶׂ֖ה בְּ/קֶ֥רֶב כָּל הָ/אָֽרֶץ
¶ Therfore thus saith the Lord GOD of hostes, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraide of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift vp his staffe against thee, after the maner of Egypt.

לָ/כֵ֗ן כֹּֽה אָמַ֞ר אֲדֹנָ֤/י יְהוִה֙ צְבָא֔וֹת אַל תִּירָ֥א עַמִּ֛/י יֹשֵׁ֥ב צִיּ֖וֹן מֵֽ/אַשּׁ֑וּר בַּ/שֵּׁ֣בֶט יַכֶּ֔/כָּה וּ/מַטֵּ֥/הוּ יִשָּֽׂא עָלֶ֖י/ךָ בְּ/דֶ֥רֶךְ מִצְרָֽיִם
For yet a very litle while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.
GenevaBut yet a very litle time, and the wrath shall be consumed, and mine anger in their destruction.
כִּי ע֖וֹד מְעַ֣ט מִזְעָ֑ר וְ/כָ֣לָה זַ֔עַם וְ/אַפִּ֖/י עַל תַּבְלִיתָֽ/ם
And the LORD of hostes shall stirre vp a scourge for him, according to the slaughter of Midian at the rocke Oreb: and as his rod was vpon the Sea, so shall he lift it vp after the manner of Egypt.
GenevaAnd ye Lord of hostes shall raise vp a scourge for him, according to the plague of Midian in the rocke Oreb: and as his staffe was vpon the Sea, so he will lift it vp after the maner of Egypt.
וְ/עוֹרֵ֨ר עָלָ֜י/ו יְהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ שׁ֔וֹט כְּ/מַכַּ֥ת מִדְיָ֖ן בְּ/צ֣וּר עוֹרֵ֑ב וּ/מַטֵּ֨/הוּ֙ עַל הַ/יָּ֔ם וּ/נְשָׂא֖/וֹ בְּ/דֶ֥רֶךְ מִצְרָֽיִם
And it shall come to passe in that day, that his burden shalbe taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy necke, and the yoke shalbe destroyed because of the anointing.

וְ/הָיָ֣ה בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֗וּא יָס֤וּר סֻבֳּל/וֹ֙ מֵ/עַ֣ל שִׁכְמֶ֔/ךָ וְ/עֻלּ֖/וֹ מֵ/עַ֣ל צַוָּארֶ֑/ךָ וְ/חֻבַּ֥ל עֹ֖ל מִ/פְּנֵי שָֽׁמֶן
He is come to Aiath, hee is passed to Migron: at Michmash he hath laid vp his cariages.
GenevaHe is come to Aiath: he is passed into Migron: at Michmash shall he lay vp his armour.
בָּ֥א עַל עַיַּ֖ת עָבַ֣ר בְּ/מִגְר֑וֹן לְ/מִכְמָ֖שׂ יַפְקִ֥יד כֵּלָֽי/ו
They are gone ouer the passage: they haue taken vp their lodging at Geba, Ramah is afraid, Gebeah of Saul is fled.
GenevaThey haue gone ouer the foorde: they lodged in the lodging at Geba: Ramah is afraide: Gibeah of Saul is fled away.
עָֽבְרוּ֙ מַעְבָּרָ֔ה גֶּ֖בַע מָל֣וֹן לָ֑/נוּ חָֽרְדָה֙ הָֽ/רָמָ֔ה גִּבְעַ֥ת שָׁא֖וּל נָֽסָה
Lift vp thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to bee heard vnto Laish, O poore Anathoth.

צַהֲלִ֥י קוֹלֵ֖/ךְ בַּת גַּלִּ֑ים הַקְשִׁ֥יבִי לַ֖יְשָׁה עֲנִיָּ֥ה עֲנָתֽוֹת
Madmenah is remooued, the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselues to flee.
GenevaMadmenah is remoued: the inhabitants of Gebim haue gathered themselues together.
נָדְדָ֖ה מַדְמֵנָ֑ה יֹשְׁבֵ֥י הַ/גֵּבִ֖ים הֵעִֽיזוּ
As yet shall hee remaine at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Ierusalem.
GenevaYet there is a time that he will stay at Nob: he shall lift vp his hand towarde the mount of the daughter Zion, the hill of Ierusalem.
ע֥וֹד הַ/יּ֖וֹם בְּ/נֹ֣ב לַֽ/עֲמֹ֑ד יְנֹפֵ֤ף יָד/וֹ֙ הַ֣ר בית צִיּ֔וֹן גִּבְעַ֖ת יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hostes shall lop the bough with terrour: and the high ones of stature shal be hewen downe, and the haughtie shalbe humbled.
GenevaBeholde, the Lord God of hostes shall cut off the bough with feare, and they of high stature shalbe cut off, and the hie shalbe humbled.
הִנֵּ֤ה הָ/אָדוֹן֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת מְסָעֵ֥ף פֻּארָ֖ה בְּ/מַעֲרָצָ֑ה וְ/רָמֵ֤י הַ/קּוֹמָה֙ גְּדוּעִ֔ים וְ/הַ/גְּבֹהִ֖ים יִשְׁפָּֽלוּ
And he shall cut downe the thickets of the forrests with yron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mightie one.
GenevaAnd he shall cut away the thicke places of the forest with yron, and Lebanon shall haue a mightie fall.
וְ/נִקַּ֛ף סִֽבְכֵ֥י הַ/יַּ֖עַר בַּ/בַּרְזֶ֑ל וְ/הַ/לְּבָנ֖וֹן בְּ/אַדִּ֥יר יִפּֽוֹל
