Genesis 29
Then Iacob went on his iourney, and came into the land of the people of the East.
GenevaThen Iaakob lift vp his feete and came into the East countrey.
וַ/יִּשָּׂ֥א יַעֲקֹ֖ב רַגְלָ֑י/ו וַ/יֵּ֖לֶךְ אַ֥רְצָ/ה בְנֵי קֶֽדֶם
And he looked, and behold, a well in the field, and loe, there were three flocks of sheepe lying by it: for out of that wel they watered the flocks: and a great stone was vpon the welles mouth.
GenevaAnd as he looked about, behold there was a well in the field, and lo, three flocks of sheepe lay thereby (for at that well were the flockes watered) and there was a great stone vpon the welles mouth.
וַ/יַּ֞רְא וְ/הִנֵּ֧ה בְאֵ֣ר בַּ/שָּׂדֶ֗ה וְ/הִנֵּה שָׁ֞ם שְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה עֶדְרֵי צֹאן֙ רֹבְצִ֣ים עָלֶ֔י/הָ כִּ֚י מִן הַ/בְּאֵ֣ר הַ/הִ֔וא יַשְׁק֖וּ הָ/עֲדָרִ֑ים וְ/הָ/אֶ֥בֶן גְּדֹלָ֖ה עַל פִּ֥י הַ/בְּאֵֽר
And thither were all the flockes gathered, and they rolled the stone from the wels mouth, & watered the sheepe, and put the stone againe vpon the wels mouth in his place.

וְ/נֶאֶסְפוּ שָׁ֣מָּ/ה כָל הָ/עֲדָרִ֗ים וְ/גָלֲל֤וּ אֶת הָ/אֶ֨בֶן֙ מֵ/עַל֙ פִּ֣י הַ/בְּאֵ֔ר וְ/הִשְׁק֖וּ אֶת הַ/צֹּ֑אן וְ/הֵשִׁ֧יבוּ אֶת הָ/אֶ֛בֶן עַל פִּ֥י הַ/בְּאֵ֖ר לִ/מְקֹמָֽ/הּ
And Iacob said vnto them, My brethren, whence be ye? and they saide, Of Haran are we.
GenevaAnd Iaakob sayde vnto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they answered, We are of Haran.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר לָ/הֶם֙ יַעֲקֹ֔ב אַחַ֖/י מֵ/אַ֣יִן אַתֶּ֑ם וַ/יֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מֵ/חָרָ֖ן אֲנָֽחְנוּ
And he said vnto them, Know ye Laban the sonne of Nahor? And they sayde, We knowe him.
GenevaThen he sayd vnto them, Know ye Laban the sonne of Nahor? Who said, We know him.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָ/הֶ֔ם הַ/יְדַעְתֶּ֖ם אֶת לָבָ֣ן בֶּן נָח֑וֹר וַ/יֹּאמְר֖וּ יָדָֽעְנוּ
And he said vnto them, Is hee well? and they said, He is well: and behold, Rachel his daughter commeth with the sheepe.
GenevaAgaine he sayd vnto them, Is he in good health? And they answered, He is in good health, and beholde, his daughter Rahel commeth with the sheepe.
וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר לָ/הֶ֖ם הֲ/שָׁל֣וֹם ל֑/וֹ וַ/יֹּאמְר֣וּ שָׁל֔וֹם וְ/הִנֵּה֙ רָחֵ֣ל בִּתּ֔/וֹ בָּאָ֖ה עִם הַ/צֹּֽאן
And hee said, Loe, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattell should be gathered together: water yee the sheepe, and goe and feed them.
GenevaThen he sayd, Lo, it is yet hie day, neither is it time that the cattell shoulde be gathered together: water ye the sheepe and go feede them.
וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר הֵ֥ן עוֹד֙ הַ/יּ֣וֹם גָּד֔וֹל לֹא עֵ֖ת הֵאָסֵ֣ף הַ/מִּקְנֶ֑ה הַשְׁק֥וּ הַ/צֹּ֖אן וּ/לְכ֥וּ רְעֽוּ
And they said, We cannot, vntill all the flockes bee gathered together, and till they rolle the stone from the welles mouth: then wee water the sheepe.
GenevaBut they sayde, We may not vntill all the flocks be brought together, and till men rolle the stone from the welles mouth, that we may water the sheepe.
וַ/יֹּאמְרוּ֮ לֹ֣א נוּכַל֒ עַ֣ד אֲשֶׁ֤ר יֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ כָּל הָ֣/עֲדָרִ֔ים וְ/גָֽלֲלוּ֙ אֶת הָ/אֶ֔בֶן מֵ/עַ֖ל פִּ֣י הַ/בְּאֵ֑ר וְ/הִשְׁקִ֖ינוּ הַ/צֹּֽאן
¶ And while hee yet spake with them, Rachel came with her fathers sheepe: for she kept them.
GenevaWhile he talked with them, Rahel also came with her fathers sheepe, for she kept them.
עוֹדֶ֖/נּוּ מְדַבֵּ֣ר עִמָּ֑/ם וְ/רָחֵ֣ל בָּ֗אָה עִם הַ/צֹּאן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְ/אָבִ֔י/הָ כִּ֥י רֹעָ֖ה הִֽוא
And it came to passe, when Iacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mothers brother, and the sheepe of Laban his mothers brother; that Iacob went neere, and rolled the stone from the wels mouth, and watered the flocke of Laban his mothers brother.
GenevaAnd assoone as Iaakob saw Rahel ye daughter of Laban his mothers brother, and the sheepe of Laban his mothers brother, then came Iaakob neere, and rolled the stone from the welles mouth, and watered ye flocke of Laban his mothers brother.
וַ/יְהִ֡י כַּ/אֲשֶׁר֩ רָאָ֨ה יַעֲקֹ֜ב אֶת רָחֵ֗ל בַּת לָבָן֙ אֲחִ֣י אִמּ֔/וֹ וְ/אֶת צֹ֥אן לָבָ֖ן אֲחִ֣י אִמּ֑/וֹ וַ/יִּגַּ֣שׁ יַעֲקֹ֗ב וַ/יָּ֤גֶל אֶת הָ/אֶ֨בֶן֙ מֵ/עַל֙ פִּ֣י הַ/בְּאֵ֔ר וַ/יַּ֕שְׁקְ אֶת צֹ֥אן לָבָ֖ן אֲחִ֥י אִמּֽ/וֹ
And Iacob kissed Rachel, and lifted vp his voyce, and wept.
GenevaAnd Iaakob kissed Rahel, and lift vp his voyce and wept.
וַ/יִּשַּׁ֥ק יַעֲקֹ֖ב לְ/רָחֵ֑ל וַ/יִּשָּׂ֥א אֶת קֹל֖/וֹ וַ/יֵּֽבְךְּ
And Iacob told Rachel, that hee was her fathers brother, and that hee was Rebekahs sonne: and she ranne, and told her father.
Geneva(For Iaakob tolde Rahel, that he was her fathers brother, and that he was Rebekahs sonne) then she ranne and tolde her father.
וַ/יַּגֵּ֨ד יַעֲקֹ֜ב לְ/רָחֵ֗ל כִּ֣י אֲחִ֤י אָבִ֨י/הָ֙ ה֔וּא וְ/כִ֥י בֶן רִבְקָ֖ה ה֑וּא וַ/תָּ֖רָץ וַ/תַּגֵּ֥ד לְ/אָבִֽי/הָ
And it came to passe, when Laban heard the tidings of Iacob his sisters sonne, that he ranne to meete him, and imbraced him, and kissed him, & brought him to his house: and hee tolde Laban all these things.

וַ/יְהִי֩ כִ/שְׁמֹ֨עַ לָבָ֜ן אֶת שֵׁ֣מַע יַעֲקֹ֣ב בֶּן אֲחֹת֗/וֹ וַ/יָּ֤רָץ לִ/קְרָאת/וֹ֙ וַ/יְחַבֶּק ל/וֹ֙ וַ/יְנַשֶּׁק ל֔/וֹ וַ/יְבִיאֵ֖/הוּ אֶל בֵּית֑/וֹ וַ/יְסַפֵּ֣ר לְ/לָבָ֔ן אֵ֥ת כָּל הַ/דְּבָרִ֖ים הָ/אֵֽלֶּה
And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh: and he abode with him the space of a moneth.
GenevaTo whome Laban sayd, Well, thou art my bone and my flesh. and he abode with him the space of a moneth.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר ל/וֹ֙ לָבָ֔ן אַ֛ךְ עַצְמִ֥/י וּ/בְשָׂרִ֖/י אָ֑תָּה וַ/יֵּ֥שֶׁב עִמּ֖/וֹ חֹ֥דֶשׁ יָמִֽים
¶ And Laban said vnto Iacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serue me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?
GenevaFor Laban sayde vnto Iaakob, Though thou be my brother, shouldest thou therfore serue me for nought? tell me, what shalbe thy wages?
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר לָבָן֙ לְ/יַעֲקֹ֔ב הֲ/כִי אָחִ֣/י אַ֔תָּה וַ/עֲבַדְתַּ֖/נִי חִנָּ֑ם הַגִּ֥ידָ/ה לִּ֖/י מַה מַּשְׂכֻּרְתֶּֽ/ךָ
And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the yonger was Rachel.
GenevaNow Laban had two daughters, the elder called Leah, and the yonger called Rahel.
וּ/לְ/לָבָ֖ן שְׁתֵּ֣י בָנ֑וֹת שֵׁ֤ם הַ/גְּדֹלָה֙ לֵאָ֔ה וְ/שֵׁ֥ם הַ/קְּטַנָּ֖ה רָחֵֽל
Leah was tender eyed: but Rachel was beautiful and well fauoured.
GenevaAnd Leah was tender eyed, but Rahel was beautifull and faire.
וְ/עֵינֵ֥י לֵאָ֖ה רַכּ֑וֹת וְ/רָחֵל֙ הָֽיְתָ֔ה יְפַת תֹּ֖אַר וִ/יפַ֥ת מַרְאֶֽה
And Iacob loued Rachel, and said, I will serue thee seuen yeeres for Rachel thy yonger daughter.
GenevaAnd Iaakob loued Rahel, and sayde, I will serue thee seuen yeeres for Rahel thy yonger daughter.
וַ/יֶּאֱהַ֥ב יַעֲקֹ֖ב אֶת רָחֵ֑ל וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר אֶֽעֱבָדְ/ךָ֙ שֶׁ֣בַע שָׁנִ֔ים בְּ/רָחֵ֥ל בִּתְּ/ךָ֖ הַ/קְּטַנָּֽה
And Laban said, It is better that I giue her to thee, then that I should giue her to another man: abide with mee.
GenevaThen Laban answered, It is better that I giue her thee, then that I should giue her to another man: abide with me.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָבָ֗ן ט֚וֹב תִּתִּ֣/י אֹתָ֣/הּ לָ֔/ךְ מִ/תִּתִּ֥/י אֹתָ֖/הּ לְ/אִ֣ישׁ אַחֵ֑ר שְׁבָ֖/ה עִמָּדִֽ/י
And Iacob serued seuen yeeres for Rachel: and they seemed vnto him but a few dayes, for the loue hee had to her.
GenevaAnd Iaakob serued seuen yeres for Rahel, and they seemed vnto him but a few dayes, because he loued her.
וַ/יַּעֲבֹ֧ד יַעֲקֹ֛ב בְּ/רָחֵ֖ל שֶׁ֣בַע שָׁנִ֑ים וַ/יִּהְי֤וּ בְ/עֵינָי/ו֙ כְּ/יָמִ֣ים אֲחָדִ֔ים בְּ/אַהֲבָת֖/וֹ אֹתָֽ/הּ
¶ And Iacob said vnto Laban, Giue me my wife (for my dayes are fulfilled) that I may goe in vnto her.
GenevaThen Iaakob sayde to Laban, Giue me my wife, that I may goe in to her: for my terme is ended.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֤ב אֶל לָבָן֙ הָבָ֣/ה אֶת אִשְׁתִּ֔/י כִּ֥י מָלְא֖וּ יָמָ֑/י וְ/אָב֖וֹאָה אֵלֶֽי/הָ
And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
GenevaWherefore Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
וַ/יֶּאֱסֹ֥ף לָבָ֛ן אֶת כָּל אַנְשֵׁ֥י הַ/מָּק֖וֹם וַ/יַּ֥עַשׂ מִשְׁתֶּֽה
And it came to passe in the euening, that he tooke Leah his daughter, and brought her to him, and he went in vnto her.
GenevaBut whe the euening was come, he tooke Leah his daughter and brought her to him, and he went in vnto her.
וַ/יְהִ֣י בָ/עֶ֔רֶב וַ/יִּקַּח֙ אֶת לֵאָ֣ה בִתּ֔/וֹ וַ/יָּבֵ֥א אֹתָ֖/הּ אֵלָ֑י/ו וַ/יָּבֹ֖א אֵלֶֽי/הָ
And Laban gaue vnto his daughter Leah, Zilpah his mayde, for a handmayd.
GenevaAnd Laban gaue his mayde Zilpah to his daughter Leah, to be her seruant.
וַ/יִּתֵּ֤ן לָבָן֙ לָ֔/הּ אֶת זִלְפָּ֖ה שִׁפְחָת֑/וֹ לְ/לֵאָ֥ה בִתּ֖/וֹ שִׁפְחָֽה
And it came to passe, that in the morning, behold it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done vnto mee? did not I serue with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?
GenevaBut when the morning was come, behold, it was Leah. Then sayde he to Laban, Wherefore hast thou done thus to mee? did not I serue thee for Rahel? wherfore then hast thou beguiled me?
וַ/יְהִ֣י בַ/בֹּ֔קֶר וְ/הִנֵּה הִ֖וא לֵאָ֑ה וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל לָבָ֗ן מַה זֹּאת֙ עָשִׂ֣יתָ לִּ֔/י הֲ/לֹ֤א בְ/רָחֵל֙ עָבַ֣דְתִּי עִמָּ֔/ךְ וְ/לָ֖/מָּה רִמִּיתָֽ/נִי
And Laban said, It must not be so done in our countrey, to giue the yonger, before the first borne.
GenevaAnd Laban answered, It is not the maner of this place, to giue the yonger before the elder.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָבָ֔ן לֹא יֵעָשֶׂ֥ה כֵ֖ן בִּ/מְקוֹמֵ֑/נוּ לָ/תֵ֥ת הַ/צְּעִירָ֖ה לִ/פְנֵ֥י הַ/בְּכִירָֽה
Fulfill her weeke, and wee will giue thee this also, for the seruice which thou shalt serue with mee, yet seuen other yeeres.
GenevaFulfill seuen yeeres for her, and we wil also giue thee this for the seruice, which thou shalt serue me yet seuen yeeres more.
מַלֵּ֖א שְׁבֻ֣עַ זֹ֑את וְ/נִתְּנָ֨ה לְ/ךָ֜ גַּם אֶת זֹ֗את בַּ/עֲבֹדָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תַּעֲבֹ֣ד עִמָּדִ֔/י ע֖וֹד שֶֽׁבַע שָׁנִ֥ים אֲחֵרֽוֹת
And Iacob did so, and fulfilled her weeke: and he gaue him Rachel his daughter to wife also.
GenevaThen Iaakob did so, and fulfilled her seuen yeeres, so he gaue him Rahel his daughter to be his wife.
וַ/יַּ֤עַשׂ יַעֲקֹב֙ כֵּ֔ן וַ/יְמַלֵּ֖א שְׁבֻ֣עַ זֹ֑את וַ/יִּתֶּן ל֛/וֹ אֶת רָחֵ֥ל בִּתּ֖/וֹ ל֥/וֹ לְ/אִשָּֽׁה
And Laban gaue to Rachel his daughter, Bilhah his handmayd, to be her mayd.
GenevaLaban also gaue to Rahel his daughter Bilhah his mayde to be her seruant.
וַ/יִּתֵּ֤ן לָבָן֙ לְ/רָחֵ֣ל בִּתּ֔/וֹ אֶת בִּלְהָ֖ה שִׁפְחָת֑/וֹ לָ֖/הּ לְ/שִׁפְחָֽה
And hee went in also vnto Rachel, and he loued also Rachel more then Leah, and serued with him yet seuen other yeeres.
GenevaSo entred he in to Rahel also, and loued also Rahel more then Leah, and serued him yet seuen yeeres more.
וַ/יָּבֹא֙ גַּ֣ם אֶל רָחֵ֔ל וַ/יֶּאֱהַ֥ב גַּֽם אֶת רָחֵ֖ל מִ/לֵּאָ֑ה וַ/יַּעֲבֹ֣ד עִמּ֔/וֹ ע֖וֹד שֶֽׁבַע שָׁנִ֥ים אֲחֵרֽוֹת
¶ And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, hee opened her wombe: but Rachel was barren.
GenevaWhen the Lord saw that Leah was despised, he made her fruitful: but Rahel was barren.
וַ/יַּ֤רְא יְהוָה֙ כִּֽי שְׂנוּאָ֣ה לֵאָ֔ה וַ/יִּפְתַּ֖ח אֶת רַחְמָ֑/הּ וְ/רָחֵ֖ל עֲקָרָֽה
And Leah conceiued and bare a sonne, and shee called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely, the LORD hath looked vpon my affliction; now therefore my husband will loue me.
GenevaAnd Leah conceiued and bare a sonne, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Because the Lord hath looked vpon my tribulation, now therefore mine husband will loue me.
וַ/תַּ֤הַר לֵאָה֙ וַ/תֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֔ן וַ/תִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖/וֹ רְאוּבֵ֑ן כִּ֣י אָֽמְרָ֗ה כִּֽי רָאָ֤ה יְהוָה֙ בְּ/עָנְיִ֔/י כִּ֥י עַתָּ֖ה יֶאֱהָבַ֥/נִי אִישִֽׁ/י
And shee conceiued againe, and bare a sonne, and saide, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, hee hath therefore giuen mee this sonne also, and she called his name Simeon.
GenevaAnd she conceiued againe and bare a sonne, and sayde, Because the Lord heard that I was hated, he hath therefore giuen me this sonne also, and she called his name Simeon.
וַ/תַּ֣הַר עוֹד֮ וַ/תֵּ֣לֶד בֵּן֒ וַ/תֹּ֗אמֶר כִּֽי שָׁמַ֤ע יְהוָה֙ כִּֽי שְׂנוּאָ֣ה אָנֹ֔כִי וַ/יִּתֶּן לִ֖/י גַּם אֶת זֶ֑ה וַ/תִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖/וֹ שִׁמְעֽוֹן
And shee conceiued againe, and bare a sonne, and said, Now this time will my husband be ioyned vnto me, because I haue borne him three sonnes: therefore was his name called Leui.
GenevaAnd she conceiued againe and bare a sonne, and said, Now at this time wil my husband keepe mee company, because I haue borne him three sonnes: therefore was his name called Leui.
וַ/תַּ֣הַר עוֹד֮ וַ/תֵּ֣לֶד בֵּן֒ וַ/תֹּ֗אמֶר עַתָּ֤ה הַ/פַּ֨עַם֙ יִלָּוֶ֤ה אִישִׁ/י֙ אֵלַ֔/י כִּֽי יָלַ֥דְתִּי ל֖/וֹ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה בָנִ֑ים עַל כֵּ֥ן קָרָֽא שְׁמ֖/וֹ לֵוִֽי
And shee conceiued againe, and bare a sonne: and she said, Now wil I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Iudah, and left bearing.
GenevaMoreouer shee conceiued againe and bare a sonne, saying, Nowe will I prayse the Lord: therefore shee called his name Iudah, and left bearing.
וַ/תַּ֨הַר ע֜וֹד וַ/תֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֗ן וַ/תֹּ֨אמֶר֙ הַ/פַּ֨עַם֙ אוֹדֶ֣ה אֶת יְהוָ֔ה עַל כֵּ֛ן קָרְאָ֥ה שְׁמ֖/וֹ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַֽ/תַּעֲמֹ֖ד מִ/לֶּֽדֶת
