Chapter 2
Romans 2
Therefore, thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoeuer thou art that iudgest: for wherein thou iudgest another, thou condemnest thy selfe, for thou that iudgest doest the same things.
GenevaTherefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoeuer thou art that condemnest: for in that that thou condemnest another, thou condemnest thy selfe: for thou that condemnest, doest the same things.
But wee are sure that the iudgement of God is according to trueth, against them which commit such things.
GenevaBut we know that the iudgement of God is according to trueth, against them which comit such things.
And thinkest thou this, O man, that iudgest them which doe such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the iudgement of God?
GenevaAnd thinkest thou this, O thou man, that condemnest them which doe such thinges, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the iudgement of God?
λογίζῃ δὲ τοῦτο, ὦ ἄνθρωπε ὁ κρίνων τοὺς τὰ τοιαῦτα πράσσοντας καὶ ποιῶν αὐτά, ὅτι σὺ ἐκφεύξῃ τὸ κρίμα τοῦ θεοῦ;
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodnesse, and forbearance, and long suffering, not knowing that the goodnes of God leadeth thee to repentance?
GenevaOr despisest thou the riches of his bountifulnesse, and patience, and long sufferance, not knowing that the bountifulnesse of God leadeth thee to repentance?
ἢ τοῦ πλούτου τῆς χρηστότητος αὐτοῦ καὶ τῆς ἀνοχῆς καὶ τῆς μακροθυμίας καταφρονεῖς, ἀγνοῶν ὅτι τὸ χρηστὸν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς μετάνοιάν σε ἄγει;
But after thy hardnesse, and impenitent heart, treasurest vp vnto thy selfe wrath, against the day of wrath, and reuelation of the righteous iudgement of God:
GenevaBut thou, after thine hardnesse, and heart that canot repent, heapest vp as a treasure vnto thy selfe wrath against the day of wrath, and of the declaration of the iust iudgement of God,
Who will render to euery man according to his deedes:
GenevaWho wil reward euery man according to his woorkes:
To them, who by patient continuance in well doing, seeke for glorie, and honour, and immortalitie, eternall life:
GenevaThat is, to them which through patience in well doing, seeke glorie, and honour, and immortalitie, euerlasting life:
But vnto them that are contentious, & doe not obey the trueth, but obey vnrighteousnes, indignation, & wrath,
GenevaBut vnto them that are contentious and disobey the trueth, and obey vnrighteousnesse, shalbe indignation and wrath.
Tribulation, and anguish vpon euery soule of man that doeth euill, of the Iew first, and also of the Gentile.
GenevaTribulation and anguish shalbe vpon the soule of euery man that doeth euill: of the Iewe first, and also of the Grecian.
But glory, honour, and peace, to euery man that worketh good, to the Iew first, and also to the Gentile.
GenevaBut to euery man that doeth good, shalbe glory, and honour, and peace: to the Iew first, and also to the Grecian.
For there is no respect of persons with God.
GenevaFor there is no respect of persons with God.
For as many as haue sinned without Law, shall also perish without Law: and as many as haue sinned in the Law, shalbe iudged by the Law.
GenevaFor as many as haue sinned without the Lawe, shall perish also without the Lawe: and as many as haue sinned in the Lawe, shall be iudged by the Lawe,
(For not the hearers of the Law are iust before God, but the doers of the Law shalbe iustified;
Geneva(For the hearers of the Lawe are not righteous before God: but the doers of the Lawe shalbe iustified.
For when the Gentiles which haue not the Law, doe by nature the things contained in the Law: these hauing not the Law, are a Law vnto themselues,
GenevaFor when the Gentiles which haue not the Lawe, doe by nature, the things conteined in the Lawe, they hauing not the Lawe, are a Lawe vnto themselues,
Which shew the worke of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witnesse, and their thoughts the meane while accusing, or else excusing one another:
GenevaWhich shew the effect of the Lawe written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witnes, and their thoughts accusing one another, or excusing,)
In the day when God shall iudge the secrets of men by Iesus Christ, according to my Gospel.
GenevaAt the day when God shall iudge the secretes of men by Iesus Christ, according to my Gospel.
Behold, thou art called a Iew, and restest in the Law, and makest thy boast of God:
GenevaBeholde, thou art called a Iewe, and restest in the Lawe, and gloriest in God,
And knowest his will, and approuest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the Law,
GenevaAnd knowest his will, and triest the things that dissent from it, in that thou art instructed by the Lawe:
And art confident that thou thy selfe art a guide of the blinde, a light of them which are in darkenesse:
GenevaAnd persuadest thy selfe that thou art a guide of the blinde, a light of them which are in darkenesse,
An instructour of the foolish, a teacher of babes: which hast the forme of knowledge and of the trueth in the Law:
GenevaAn instructer of them which lacke discretion, a teacher of the vnlearned, which hast the forme of knowledge, and of the truth in ye Law.
Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thy selfe? thou that preachest a man should not steale, doest thou steale?
GenevaThou therefore, which teachest another, teachest thou not thy selfe? thou that preachest, A man should not steale, doest thou steale?
ὁ οὖν διδάσκων ἕτερον σεαυτὸν οὐ διδάσκεις; ὁ κηρύσσων μὴ κλέπτειν κλέπτεις;
Thou that sayest a man should not commit adulterie, doest thou commit adulterie? thou that abhorrest idols, doest thou commit sacriledge?
GenevaThou that saist, A man should not commit adulterie, doest thou commit adulterie? thou that abhorrest idoles, committest thou sacrilege?
ὁ λέγων μὴ μοιχεύειν μοιχεύεις; ὁ βδελυσσόμενος τὰ εἴδωλα ἱεροσυλεῖς;
Thou that makest thy boast of the Law, through breaking the Law dishonourest thou God?
GenevaThou that gloriest in the Lawe, through breaking the Lawe, dishonourest thou God?
ὃς ἐν νόμῳ καυχᾶσαι, διὰ τῆς παραβάσεως τοῦ νόμου τὸν θεὸν ἀτιμάζεις;
For the Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles, through you, as it is written:
GenevaFor ye Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
For Circumcision verily profiteth if thou keepe the Law: but if thou be a breaker of the Law, thy Circumcision is made vncircumcision.
GenevaFor circucision verely is profitable, if thou do the Lawe: but if thou be a transgressour of the Lawe, thy circumcision is made vncircumcision.
Therefore, if the vncircumcision keepe the righteousnesse of the Law, shall not his vncircumcision be counted for Circumcision?
GenevaTherefore if the vncircumcision keepe the ordinances of the Lawe, shall not his vncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
ἐὰν οὖν ἡ ἀκροβυστία τὰ δικαιώματα τοῦ νόμου φυλάσσῃ, οὐχ ἡ ἀκροβυστία αὐτοῦ εἰς περιτομὴν λογισθήσεται;
And shall not vncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfill the Law, iudge thee, who by the letter, and Circumcision, doest transgresse the Law?
GenevaAnd shall not vncircumcision which is by nature (if it keepe the Lawe) condemne thee which by the letter and circumcision art a transgressour of the Lawe?
For hee is not a Iew, which is one outwardly, neither is that Circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
GenevaFor hee is not a Iewe, which is one outwarde: neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
But he is a Iew which is one inwardly, and Circumcision is, that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.
GenevaBut he is a Iewe which is one within, and the circumcision is of the heart, in the spirite not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of God.
