Proverbs 28
The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bolde as a lyon.
GenevaThe wicked flee when none pursueth: but the righteous are bolde as a lyon.
נָ֣סוּ וְ/אֵין רֹדֵ֣ף רָשָׁ֑ע וְ֝/צַדִּיקִ֗ים כִּ/כְפִ֥יר יִבְטָֽח
For the transgression of a land, many are the princes thereof: but by a man of vnderstanding and knowledge the state thereof shall bee prolonged.
GenevaFor the transgression of the land there are many princes thereof: but by a man of vnderstanding and knowledge a realme likewise endureth long.
בְּ/פֶ֣שַֽׁע אֶ֭רֶץ רַבִּ֣ים שָׂרֶ֑י/הָ וּ/בְ/אָדָ֥ם מֵבִ֥ין יֹ֝דֵ֗עַ כֵּ֣ן יַאֲרִֽיךְ
A poore man that oppresseth the poore, is like a sweeping raine which leaueth no food.
GenevaA poore man, if he oppresse the poore, is like a raging raine, that leaueth no foode.
גֶּ֣בֶר רָ֭שׁ וְ/עֹשֵׁ֣ק דַּלִּ֑ים מָטָ֥ר סֹ֝חֵ֗ף וְ/אֵ֣ין לָֽחֶם
They that forsake the law, praise the wicked: but such as keepe the Law, contend with them.
GenevaThey that forsake the Law, prayse the wicked: but they that keepe the Law, set themselues against them.
עֹזְבֵ֣י ת֭וֹרָה יְהַֽלְל֣וּ רָשָׁ֑ע וְ/שֹׁמְרֵ֥י ת֝וֹרָ֗ה יִתְגָּ֥רוּ בָֽ/ם
Euill men vnderstand not iudgement: but they that seeke the LORD, vnderstand all things.
GenevaWicked men vnderstand not iudgemnt: but they that seeke the Lord vnderstand all things.
אַנְשֵׁי רָ֭ע לֹא יָבִ֣ינוּ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ/מְבַקְשֵׁ֥י יְ֝הוָ֗ה יָבִ֥ינוּ כֹֽל
Better is the poore that walketh in his vprightnesse, then he that is peruerse in his wayes, though he be rich.
GenevaBetter is the poore that walketh in his vprightnesse, then hee that peruerteth his wayes, though he be riche.
טֽוֹב רָ֭שׁ הוֹלֵ֣ךְ בְּ/תֻמּ֑/וֹ מֵ/עִקֵּ֥שׁ דְּ֝רָכַ֗יִם וְ/ה֣וּא עָשִֽׁיר
Whoso keepeth the law, is a wise sonne: but he that is a companion of riotous men, shameth his father.
GenevaHe that keepeth the Law, is a childe of vnderstanding: but hee that feedeth the gluttons, shameth his father.
נוֹצֵ֣ר תּ֭וֹרָה בֵּ֣ן מֵבִ֑ין וְ/רֹעֶה זֽ֝וֹלְלִ֗ים יַכְלִ֥ים אָבִֽי/ו
He that by vsurie and vniust gaine increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that wil pity the poore.
GenevaHe that increaseth his riches by vsurie and interest, gathereth them for him that will be mercifull vnto the poore.
מַרְבֶּ֣ה ה֭וֹנ/וֹ בְּ/נֶ֣שֶׁךְ ו/ב/תרבית לְ/חוֹנֵ֖ן דַּלִּ֣ים יִקְבְּצֶֽ/נּוּ
He that turneth away his eare from hearing the law, euen his prayer shalbe abomination.
GenevaHe that turneth away his eare from hearing the Law, euen his prayer shalbe abominable.
מֵסִ֣יר אָ֭זְנ/וֹ מִ/שְּׁמֹ֣עַ תּוֹרָ֑ה גַּֽם תְּ֝פִלָּת֗/וֹ תּוֹעֵבָֽה
Who so causeth the righteous to goe astray in an euill way, he shall fall himselfe into his owne pit: but the vpright shall haue good things in possession.
GenevaHe that causeth the righteous to go astray by an euill way, shall fall into his owne pit, and the vpright shall inherite good things.
מַשְׁגֶּ֤ה יְשָׁרִ֨ים בְּ/דֶ֥רֶךְ רָ֗ע בִּ/שְׁחוּת֥/וֹ הֽוּא יִפּ֑וֹל וּ֝/תְמִימִ֗ים יִנְחֲלוּ טֽוֹב
The rich man is wise in his owne conceit: but the poore that hath vnderstanding searcheth him out.
GenevaThe riche man is wise in his owne conceite: but the poore that hath vnderstanding, can trie him.
חָכָ֣ם בְּ֭/עֵינָי/ו אִ֣ישׁ עָשִׁ֑יר וְ/דַ֖ל מֵבִ֣ין יַחְקְרֶֽ/נּוּ
When righteous men do reioyce, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.
GenevaWhen righteous men reioyce, there is great glory: but when the wicked come vp, the man is tried.
בַּ/עֲלֹ֣ץ צַ֭דִּיקִים רַבָּ֣ה תִפְאָ֑רֶת וּ/בְ/ק֥וּם רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים יְחֻפַּ֥שׂ אָדָֽם
He that couereth his sinnes, shall not prosper: but who so confesseth and forsaketh them, shall haue mercie.
GenevaHe that hideth his sinnes, shall not prosper: but he that confesseth, and forsaketh them, shall haue mercy.
מְכַסֶּ֣ה פְ֭שָׁעָי/ו לֹ֣א יַצְלִ֑יחַ וּ/מוֹדֶ֖ה וְ/עֹזֵ֣ב יְרֻחָֽם
Happy is the man that feareth always: but he that hardeneth his heart, shall fall into mischiefe.
GenevaBlessed is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart, shall fall into euill.
אַשְׁרֵ֣י אָ֭דָם מְפַחֵ֣ד תָּמִ֑יד וּ/מַקְשֶׁ֥ה לִ֝בּ֗/וֹ יִפּ֥וֹל בְּ/רָעָֽה
As a roaring lyon and a ranging beare: so is a wicked ruler ouer the poore people.
GenevaAs a roaring lyon, and an hungry beare, so is a wicked ruler ouer the poore people.
אֲרִי נֹ֭הֵם וְ/דֹ֣ב שׁוֹקֵ֑ק מֹשֵׁ֥ל רָ֝שָׁ֗ע עַ֣ל עַם דָּֽל
The prince that wanteth vnderstanding, is also a great oppressour: but he that hateth couetousnesse, shall prolong his dayes.
GenevaA prince destitute of vnderstanding, is also a great oppressour: but hee that hateth couetousnes, shall prolong his dayes.
נָגִ֗יד חֲסַ֣ר תְּ֭בוּנוֹת וְ/רַ֥ב מַעֲשַׁקּ֑וֹת שנאי בֶ֝֗צַע יַאֲרִ֥יךְ יָמִֽים
A man that doth violence to the blood of any person, shall flie to the pit, let no man stay him.
GenevaA man that doeth violence against the blood of a person, shall flee vnto the graue, and they shall not stay him.
אָ֭דָם עָשֻׁ֣ק בְּ/דַם נָפֶשׁ עַד בּ֥וֹר יָ֝נ֗וּס אַל יִתְמְכוּ בֽ/וֹ
Whoso walketh vprightly, shall be saued: but he that is peruerse in his wayes, shall fall at once.
GenevaHe that walketh vprightly, shalbe saued: but he that is froward in his wayes, shall once fall.
הוֹלֵ֣ךְ תָּ֭מִים יִוָּשֵׁ֑עַ וְ/נֶעְקַ֥שׁ דְּ֝רָכַ֗יִם יִפּ֥וֹל בְּ/אֶחָֽת
He that tilleth his land, shal haue plentie of bread: but he that followeth after vaine persons, shall haue pouerty enough.
GenevaHe that tilleth his land, shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth the idle, shall be filled with pouertie.
עֹבֵ֣ד אַ֭דְמָת/וֹ יִֽשְׂבַּֽע לָ֑חֶם וּ/מְרַדֵּ֥ף רֵ֝קִ֗ים יִֽשְׂבַּֽע רִֽישׁ
A faithfull man shall abound with blessings: but hee that maketh haste to be rich, shall not be innocent.
GenevaA faythfull man shall abound in blessings, and he that maketh haste to be riche, shall not be innocent.
אִ֣ישׁ אֱ֭מוּנוֹת רַב בְּרָכ֑וֹת וְ/אָ֥ץ לְ֝/הַעֲשִׁ֗יר לֹ֣א יִנָּקֶֽה
To haue respect of persons, is not good: for, for a piece of bread that man will transgresse.
GenevaTo haue respect of persons is not good: for that man will transgresse for a piece of bread.
הַֽכֵּר פָּנִ֥ים לֹא ט֑וֹב וְ/עַל פַּת לֶ֝֗חֶם יִפְשַׁע גָּֽבֶר
He that hasteth to bee rich, hath an euill eye, and considereth not that pouerty shall come vpon him.
GenevaA man with a wicked eye hasteth to riches, and knoweth not, that pouertie shall come vpon him.
נִֽבֳהָ֥ל לַ/ה֗וֹן אִ֭ישׁ רַ֣ע עָ֑יִן וְ/לֹֽא יֵ֝דַע כִּי חֶ֥סֶר יְבֹאֶֽ/נּוּ
He that rebuketh a man, afterwards shall find more fauour, then he that flattereth with the tongue.
GenevaHe that rebuketh a man, shall finde more fauour at length, then he that flattereth with his tongue.
מ֘וֹכִ֤יחַ אָדָ֣ם אַ֭חֲרַי חֵ֣ן יִמְצָ֑א מִֽ/מַּחֲלִ֥יק לָשֽׁוֹן
Who so robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, it is no transgression, the same is the companion of a destroyer.
GenevaHee that robbeth his father and mother, and sayth, It is no transgression, is the companion of a man that destroyeth.
גּוֹזֵ֤ל אָ֘בִ֤י/ו וְ/אִמּ֗/וֹ וְ/אֹמֵ֥ר אֵֽין פָּ֑שַׁע חָבֵ֥ר ה֝֗וּא לְ/אִ֣ישׁ מַשְׁחִֽית
He that is of a proud heart, stirreth vp strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD, shalbe made fat.
GenevaHe that is of a proude heart, stirreth vp strife: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be fatte.
רְחַב נֶ֭פֶשׁ יְגָרֶ֣ה מָד֑וֹן וּ/בוֹטֵ֖חַ עַל יְהוָ֣ה יְדֻשָּֽׁן
Hee that trusteth in his owne heart, is a foole: but who so walketh wisely, he shall be deliuered.
GenevaHee that trusteth in his owne heart, is a foole: but he that walketh in wisdome, shall be deliuered.
בּוֹטֵ֣חַ בְּ֭/לִבּ/וֹ ה֣וּא כְסִ֑יל וְ/הוֹלֵ֥ךְ בְּ֝/חָכְמָ֗ה ה֣וּא יִמָּלֵֽט
He that giueth vnto the poore, shall not lacke: but he that hideth his eyes, shall haue many a curse.
GenevaHe that giueth vnto the poore, shall not lacke: but he that hideth his eyes, shall haue many curses.
נוֹתֵ֣ן לָ֭/רָשׁ אֵ֣ין מַחְס֑וֹר וּ/מַעְלִ֥ים עֵ֝ינָ֗י/ו רַב מְאֵרֽוֹת
When the wicked rise, men hide themselues: but when they perish, the righteous increase.
GenevaWhen the wicked rise vp, men hide them selues: but when they perish, ye righteous increase.
בְּ/ק֣וּם רְ֭שָׁעִים יִסָּתֵ֣ר אָדָ֑ם וּ֝/בְ/אָבְדָ֗/ם יִרְבּ֥וּ צַדִּיקִֽים
