Proverbs 24

Be not thou enuious against euill men, neither desire to be with them.

אַל תְּ֭קַנֵּא בְּ/אַנְשֵׁ֣י רָעָ֑ה וְ/אַל תתאו לִ/הְי֥וֹת אִתָּֽ/ם

For their heart studieth destruction, and their lippes talke of mischiefe.

GenevaFor their heart imagineth destruction, and their lippes speake mischiefe.

כִּי שֹׁ֭ד יֶהְגֶּ֣ה לִבָּ֑/ם וְ֝/עָמָ֗ל שִׂפְתֵי/הֶ֥ם תְּדַבֵּֽרְנָה

Through wisedome is an house builded, and by vnderstanding it is established.

GenevaThrough wisdome is an house builded, and with vnderstanding it is established.

בְּ֭/חָכְמָה יִבָּ֣נֶה בָּ֑יִת וּ֝/בִ/תְבוּנָ֗ה יִתְכּוֹנָֽן

And by knowledge shall the chambers bee filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

וּ֭/בְ/דַעַת חֲדָרִ֣ים יִמָּלְא֑וּ כָּל ה֖וֹן יָקָ֣ר וְ/נָעִֽים

A wise man is strong, yea a man of knowledge encreaseth strength.

GenevaA wise man is strong: for a man of vnderstanding encreaseth his strength.

גֶּֽבֶר חָכָ֥ם בַּ/ע֑וֹז וְ/אִֽישׁ דַּ֝֗עַת מְאַמֶּץ כֹּֽחַ

For by wise counsell thou shalt make thy warre: and in multitude of counsellers there is safetie.

GenevaFor with counsel thou shalt enterprise thy warre, and in the multitude of them that can giue counsell, is health.

כִּ֣י בְ֭/תַחְבֻּלוֹת תַּעֲשֶׂה לְּ/ךָ֣ מִלְחָמָ֑ה וּ֝/תְשׁוּעָ֗ה בְּ/רֹ֣ב יוֹעֵֽץ

Wisedome is too high for a foole: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

GenevaWisdome is hie to a foole: therefore he can not open his mouth in the gate.

רָאמ֣וֹת לֶֽ/אֱוִ֣יל חָכְמ֑וֹת בַּ֝/שַּׁ֗עַר לֹ֣א יִפְתַּח פִּֽי/הוּ

He that deuiseth to doe euill, shall be called a mischieuous person.

GenevaHee that imagineth to doe euill, men shall call him an autour of wickednes.

מְחַשֵּׁ֥ב לְ/הָרֵ֑עַ ל֝֗/וֹ בַּֽעַל מְזִמּ֥וֹת יִקְרָֽאוּ

The thought of foolishnesse is sinne: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

GenevaThe wicked thought of a foole is sinne, and the scorner is an abomination vnto men.

זִמַּ֣ת אִוֶּ֣לֶת חַטָּ֑את וְ/תוֹעֲבַ֖ת לְ/אָדָ֣ם לֵֽץ

If thou faint in the day of aduersitie, thy strength is small:

GenevaIf thou bee faint in the day of aduersitie, thy strength is small.

הִ֭תְרַפִּיתָ בְּ/י֥וֹם צָרָ֗ה צַ֣ר כֹּחֶֽ/כָה

If thou forbeare to deliuer them that are drawen vnto death, and those that are ready to be slaine:

GenevaDeliuer them that are drawen to death: wilt thou not preserue them that are led to be slaine?

הַ֭צֵּל לְקֻחִ֣ים לַ/מָּ֑וֶת וּ/מָטִ֥ים לַ֝/הֶ֗רֶג אִם תַּחְשֽׂוֹךְ

If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not: doth not he that pondereth the heart, consider it? and he that keepeth thy soule, doth not he know it? and shall not hee render to euery man according to his workes?

GenevaIf thou say, Beholde, we knew not of it: he that pondereth the heartes, doeth not hee vnderstand it? and hee that keepeth thy soule, knoweth he it not? will not he also recompense euery man according to his workes?

כִּֽי תֹאמַ֗ר הֵן֮ לֹא יָדַ֪עְנ֫וּ זֶ֥ה הֲֽ/לֹא תֹ֘כֵ֤ן לִבּ֨וֹת הֽוּא יָבִ֗ין וְ/נֹצֵ֣ר נַ֭פְשְׁ/ךָ ה֣וּא יֵדָ֑ע וְ/הֵשִׁ֖יב לְ/אָדָ֣ם כְּ/פָעֳלֽ/וֹ

My sonne, eate thou honie, because it is good, and the honie combe, which is sweete to thy taste.

GenevaMy sonne, eate hony, for it is good, and the hony combe, for it is sweete vnto thy mouth.

אֱכָל בְּנִ֣/י דְבַ֣שׁ כִּי ט֑וֹב וְ/נֹ֥פֶת מָ֝ת֗וֹק עַל חִכֶּֽ/ךָ

So shall the knowledge of wisedome be vnto thy soule: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

GenevaSo shall the knowledge of wisdome be vnto thy soule, if thou finde it, and there shall be an ende, and thine hope shall not be cut off.

כֵּ֤ן דְּעֶ֥/ה חָכְמָ֗ה לְ/נַ֫פְשֶׁ֥/ךָ אִם מָ֭צָאתָ וְ/יֵ֣שׁ אַחֲרִ֑ית וְ֝/תִקְוָתְ/ךָ֗ לֹ֣א תִכָּרֵֽת

Lay not waite, (O wicked man) against the dwelling of the righteous: spoile not his resting place.

GenevaLaye no waite, O wicked man, against the house of the righteous, and spoyle not his resting place.

אַל תֶּאֱרֹ֣ב רָ֭שָׁע לִ/נְוֵ֣ה צַדִּ֑יק אַֽל תְּשַׁדֵּ֥ד רִבְצ/וֹ

For a iust man falleth seuen times, and riseth vp againe: but the wicked shall fall into mischiefe.

GenevaFor a iust man falleth seuen times, and riseth againe: but the wicked fall into mischiefe.

כִּ֤י שֶׁ֨בַע יִפּ֣וֹל צַדִּ֣יק וָ/קָ֑ם וּ֝/רְשָׁעִ֗ים יִכָּשְׁל֥וּ בְ/רָעָֽה

Reioyce not when thine enemie falleth: and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

GenevaBee thou not glad when thine enemie falleth, and let not thine heart reioyce when hee stumbleth,

בִּ/נְפֹ֣ל אויבי/ך אַל תִּשְׂמָ֑ח וּ֝/בִ/כָּשְׁל֗/וֹ אַל יָגֵ֥ל לִבֶּֽ/ךָ

Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and hee turne away his wrath from him.

GenevaLeast the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turne his wrath from him.

פֶּן יִרְאֶ֣ה יְ֭הוָה וְ/רַ֣ע בְּ/עֵינָ֑י/ו וְ/הֵשִׁ֖יב מֵ/עָלָ֣י/ו אַפּֽ/וֹ

Fret not thy selfe because of euill men; neither be thou enuious at the wicked.

GenevaFret not thy selfe because of the malicious, neither be enuious at the wicked.

אַל תִּתְחַ֥ר בַּ/מְּרֵעִ֑ים אַל תְּ֝קַנֵּ֗א בָּ/רְשָׁעִֽים

For there shall be no reward to the euill man: the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

GenevaFor there shall bee none ende of plagues to the euill man: the light of the wicked shall bee put out.

כִּ֤י לֹֽא תִהְיֶ֣ה אַחֲרִ֣ית לָ/רָ֑ע נֵ֖ר רְשָׁעִ֣ים יִדְעָֽךְ

My sonne, feare thou the LORD, and the king: and medle not with them that are giuen to change.

GenevaMy sonne feare the Lord, and the King, and meddle not with them that are sedicious.

יְרָֽא אֶת יְהוָ֣ה בְּנִ֣/י וָ/מֶ֑לֶךְ עִם שׁ֝וֹנִ֗ים אַל תִּתְעָרָֽב

For their calamity shall rise suddenly, and who knoweth the ruine of them both?

GenevaFor their destruction shall rise suddenly, and who knoweth the ruine of them both?

כִּֽי פִ֭תְאֹם יָק֣וּם אֵידָ֑/ם וּ/פִ֥יד שְׁ֝נֵי/הֶ֗ם מִ֣י יוֹדֵֽעַ

These things also belong to the wise: It is not good to haue respect of persons in iudgement.

GenevaALSO THESE THINGS PERTEINE TO THE WISE, It is not good to haue respect of any person in iudgement.

גַּם אֵ֥לֶּה לַֽ/חֲכָמִ֑ים הַֽכֵּר פָּנִ֖ים בְּ/מִשְׁפָּ֣ט בַּל טֽוֹב

He that sayth vnto the wicked, Thou art righteous, him shall the people curse; nations shall abhorre him:

GenevaHe that saith to the wicked, Thou art righteous, him shall the people curse, and the multitude shall abhorre him.

אֹ֤מֵ֨ר לְ/רָשָׁע֮ צַדִּ֪יק אָ֥תָּה יִקְּבֻ֥/הוּ עַמִּ֑ים יִזְעָמ֥וּ/הוּ לְאֻמִּֽים

But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come vpon them.

GenevaBut to them that rebuke him, shall be pleasure, and vpon them shall come the blessing of goodnesse.

וְ/לַ/מּוֹכִיחִ֥ים יִנְעָ֑ם וַֽ֝/עֲלֵי/הֶ֗ם תָּב֥וֹא בִרְכַּת טֽוֹב

Euery man shall kisse his lippes that giueth a right answere.

GenevaThey shall kisse the lippes of him that answereth vpright wordes.

שְׂפָתַ֥יִם יִשָּׁ֑ק מֵ֝שִׁ֗יב דְּבָרִ֥ים נְכֹחִֽים

Prepare thy worke without, and make it fit for thy selfe in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

GenevaPrepare thy worke without, and make readie thy thinges in the fielde, and after, builde thine house.

הָ֘כֵ֤ן בַּ/ח֨וּץ מְלַאכְתֶּ֗/ךָ וְ/עַתְּדָ֣/הּ בַּ/שָּׂדֶ֣ה לָ֑/ךְ אַ֝חַ֗ר וּ/בָנִ֥יתָ בֵיתֶֽ/ךָ

Be not a witnesse against thy neighbour without cause: and deceiue not with thy lippes.

GenevaBe not a witnes against thy neighbour without cause: for wilt thou deceiue with thy lippes?

אַל תְּהִ֣י עֵד חִנָּ֣ם בְּ/רֵעֶ֑/ךָ וַ֝/הֲ/פִתִּ֗יתָ בִּ/שְׂפָתֶֽי/ךָ

Say not, I will doe so to him as he hath done to mee: I will render to the man according to his worke.

GenevaSay not, I wil doe to him, as he hath done to mee, I will recompence euery man according to his worke.

אַל תֹּאמַ֗ר כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָֽשָׂה לִ֭/י כֵּ֤ן אֶֽעֱשֶׂה לּ֑/וֹ אָשִׁ֖יב לָ/אִ֣ישׁ כְּ/פָעֳלֽ/וֹ

I went by the field of the slouthfull, and by the vineyard of the man voyd of vnderstanding:

GenevaI passed by the fielde of the slouthfull, and by the vineyarde of the man destitute of vnderstanding.

עַל שְׂדֵ֣ה אִישׁ עָצֵ֣ל עָבַ֑רְתִּי וְ/עַל כֶּ֝֗רֶם אָדָ֥ם חֲסַר לֵֽב

And loe, it was all growen ouer with thornes, and nettles had couered the face thereof, and the stone wall therof was broken downe:

וְ/הִנֵּ֨ה עָ֘לָ֤ה כֻלּ֨/וֹ קִמְּשֹׂנִ֗ים כָּסּ֣וּ פָנָ֣י/ו חֲרֻלִּ֑ים וְ/גֶ֖דֶר אֲבָנָ֣י/ו נֶהֱרָֽסָה

Then I saw, and considered it well, I looked vpon it, and receiued instruction.

וָֽ/אֶחֱזֶ֣ה אָ֭נֹכִֽי אָשִׁ֣ית לִבִּ֑/י רָ֝אִ֗יתִי לָקַ֥חְתִּי מוּסָֽר

Yet a little sleepe, a little slumber, a little folding of the handes to sleepe:

מְעַ֣ט שֵׁ֭נוֹת מְעַ֣ט תְּנוּמ֑וֹת מְעַ֓ט חִבֻּ֖ק יָדַ֣יִם לִ/שְׁכָּֽב

So shall thy pouertie come, as one that traueileth, and thy want, as an armed man.

GenevaSo thy pouertie commeth as one that traueileth by the way, and thy necessitie like an armed man.

וּ/בָֽא מִתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ רֵישֶׁ֑/ךָ וּ֝/מַחְסֹרֶ֗י/ךָ כְּ/אִ֣ישׁ מָגֵֽן
