Proverbs 16

The preparations of the heart in man, and the answere of the tongue, is from the LORD.

GenevaThe preparations of the heart are in man: but the answere of the tongue is of the Lord.

לְ/אָדָ֥ם מַֽעַרְכֵי לֵ֑ב וּ֝/מֵ/יְהוָ֗ה מַעֲנֵ֥ה לָשֽׁוֹן

All the wayes of a man are cleane in his owne eyes: but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

GenevaAll the wayes of a man are cleane in his owne eyes: but the Lord pondereth the spirits.

כָּֽל דַּרְכֵי אִ֭ישׁ זַ֣ךְ בְּ/עֵינָ֑י/ו וְ/תֹכֵ֖ן רוּח֣וֹת יְהוָֽה

Commit thy workes vnto the LORD, and thy thoughts shalbe established.

GenevaCommit thy workes vnto the Lord, and thy thoughts shalbe directed.

גֹּ֣ל אֶל יְהוָ֣ה מַעֲשֶׂ֑י/ךָ וְ֝/יִכֹּ֗נוּ מַחְשְׁבֹתֶֽי/ךָ

The LORD hath made all things for himselfe: yea, euen the wicked for the day of euill.

GenevaThe Lord hath made all things for his owne sake: yea, euen the wicked for the day of euill.

כֹּ֤ל פָּעַ֣ל יְ֭הוָה לַֽ/מַּעֲנֵ֑/הוּ וְ/גַם רָ֝שָׁ֗ע לְ/י֣וֹם רָעָֽה

Euery one that is proud in heart, is an abomination to the LORD: though hand ioyne in hand, he shall not be vnpunished.

תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה כָּל גְּבַהּ לֵ֑ב יָ֥ד לְ֝/יָ֗ד לֹ֣א יִנָּקֶֽה

By mercy and trueth iniquitie is purged: and by the feare of the LORD, men depart from euill.

GenevaBy mercy and trueth iniquitie shalbe forgiuen, and by the feare of the Lord they depart from euill.

בְּ/חֶ֣סֶד וֶ֭/אֱמֶת יְכֻפַּ֣ר עָוֺ֑ן וּ/בְ/יִרְאַ֥ת יְ֝הוָ֗ה ס֣וּר מֵ/רָֽע

When a mans wayes please the LORD, he maketh euen his enemies to be at peace with him.

GenevaWhen the wayes of a man please the Lord, he will make also his enemies at peace with him.

בִּ/רְצ֣וֹת יְ֭הוָה דַּרְכֵי אִ֑ישׁ גַּם א֝וֹיְבָ֗י/ו יַשְׁלִ֥ם אִתּֽ/וֹ

Better is a little with righteousnesse, then great reuenewes without right.

GenevaBetter is a litle with righteousnesse, then great reuenues without equitie.

טוֹב מְ֭עַט בִּ/צְדָקָ֑ה מֵ/רֹ֥ב תְּ֝בוּא֗וֹת בְּ/לֹ֣א מִשְׁפָּֽט

A mans heart deuiseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

GenevaThe heart of man purposeth his way: but the Lord doeth direct his steppes.

לֵ֣ב אָ֭דָם יְחַשֵּׁ֣ב דַּרְכּ֑/וֹ וַֽ֝/יהוָ֗ה יָכִ֥ין צַעֲדֽ/וֹ

A diuine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in iudgement.

GenevaA diuine sentence shalbe in the lips of the King: his mouth shall not transgresse in iudgement.

קֶ֤סֶם עַֽל שִׂפְתֵי מֶ֑לֶךְ בְּ֝/מִשְׁפָּ֗ט לֹ֣א יִמְעַל פִּֽי/ו

A iust weight and ballance are the LORDs: all the weights of the bagge are his worke.

GenevaA true weight and balance are of the Lord: all the weightes of the bagge are his worke.

פֶּ֤לֶס וּ/מֹאזְנֵ֣י מִ֭שְׁפָּט לַֽ/יהוָ֑ה מַ֝עֲשֵׂ֗/הוּ כָּל אַבְנֵי כִֽיס

It is an abomination to kings to commit wickednesse: for the throne is established by righteousnesse.

תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת מְ֭לָכִים עֲשׂ֣וֹת רֶ֑שַׁע כִּ֥י בִ֝/צְדָקָ֗ה יִכּ֥וֹן כִּסֵּֽא

Righteous lips are the delight of kings: and they loue him that speaketh right.

GenevaRighteous lips are the delite of Kings, and the King loueth him that speaketh right things.

רְצ֣וֹן מְ֭לָכִים שִׂפְתֵי צֶ֑דֶק וְ/דֹבֵ֖ר יְשָׁרִ֣ים יֶאֱהָֽב

The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacifie it.

GenevaThe wrath of a King is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacifie it.

חֲמַת מֶ֥לֶךְ מַלְאֲכֵי מָ֑וֶת וְ/אִ֖ישׁ חָכָ֣ם יְכַפְּרֶֽ/נָּה

In the light of the kings countenance is life, and his fauour is as a cloude of the latter raine.

GenevaIn the light of the Kings coutenance is life: and his fauour is as a cloude of the latter raine.

בְּ/אוֹר פְּנֵי מֶ֥לֶךְ חַיִּ֑ים וּ֝/רְצוֹנ֗/וֹ כְּ/עָ֣ב מַלְקֽוֹשׁ

How much better is it to get wisedome, then gold? and to get vnderstanding, rather to be chosen then siluer?

GenevaHowe much better is it to get wisedome then golde? and to get vnderstanding, is more to be desired then siluer.

קְֽנֹה חָכְמָ֗ה מַה טּ֥וֹב מֵ/חָר֑וּץ וּ/קְנ֥וֹת בִּ֝ינָ֗ה נִבְחָ֥ר מִ/כָּֽסֶף

The high way of the vpright is to depart from euill: hee that keepeth his way, preserueth his soule.

GenevaThe pathe of the righteous is to decline from euil, and hee keepeth his soule, that keepeth his way.

מְסִלַּ֣ת יְ֭שָׁרִים ס֣וּר מֵ/רָ֑ע שֹׁמֵ֥ר נַ֝פְשׁ֗/וֹ נֹצֵ֥ר דַּרְכּֽ/וֹ

Pride goeth before destruction: and an hautie spirit before a fall.

GenevaPride goeth before destruction, and an high minde before the fall.

לִ/פְנֵי שֶׁ֥בֶר גָּא֑וֹן וְ/לִ/פְנֵ֥י כִ֝שָּׁל֗וֹן גֹּ֣בַהּ רֽוּחַ

Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, then to diuide the spoile with the proud.

GenevaBetter it is to be of humble minde with the lowly, then to deuide the spoyles with the proude.

ט֣וֹב שְׁפַל ר֭וּחַ אֶת עניים מֵֽ/חַלֵּ֥ק שָׁ֝לָ֗ל אֶת גֵּאִֽים

He that handleth a matter wisely, shall finde good: and who so trusteth in the LORD, happy is hee.

GenevaHe that is wise in his busines, shall finde good: and he that trusteth in the Lord, he is blessed.

מַשְׂכִּ֣יל עַל דָּ֭בָר יִמְצָא ט֑וֹב וּ/בוֹטֵ֖חַ בַּ/יהוָ֣ה אַשְׁרָֽי/ו

The wise in heart shall be called prudent; and the sweetnesse of the lips increaseth learning.

GenevaThe wise in heart shall bee called prudent: and the sweetenesse of the lippes shall increase doctrine.

לַ/חֲכַם לֵ֭ב יִקָּרֵ֣א נָב֑וֹן וּ/מֶ֥תֶק שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם יֹסִ֥יף לֶֽקַח

Understanding is a well-spring of life vnto him that hath it: but the instruction of fooles is folly.

GenevaVnderstading is welspring of life vnto them that haue it: and the instruction of fooles is folly.

מְק֣וֹר חַ֭יִּים שֵׂ֣כֶל בְּעָלָ֑י/ו וּ/מוּסַ֖ר אֱוִלִ֣ים אִוֶּֽלֶת

The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lippes.

GenevaThe heart of the wise guideth his mouth wisely, and addeth doctrine to his lippes.

לֵ֣ב חָ֭כָם יַשְׂכִּ֣יל פִּ֑י/הוּ וְ/עַל שְׂ֝פָתָ֗י/ו יֹסִ֥יף לֶֽקַח

Pleasant words are as an honycombe, sweete to the soule, and health to the bones.

GenevaFaire wordes are as an hony combe, sweetenesse to the soule, and health to the bones.

צוּף דְּ֭בַשׁ אִמְרֵי נֹ֑עַם מָת֥וֹק לַ֝/נֶּפֶשׁ וּ/מַרְפֵּ֥א לָ/עָֽצֶם

There is a way that seemeth right vnto a man; but the end thereof are the wayes of death.

GenevaThere is a way that seemeth right vnto man: but the issue thereof are the wayes of death.

יֵ֤שׁ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יָ֭שָׁר לִ/פְנֵי אִ֑ישׁ וְ֝/אַחֲרִיתָ֗/הּ דַּרְכֵי מָֽוֶת

Hee that laboureth, laboureth for himselfe; for his mouth craueth it of him.

GenevaThe person that traueileth, traueileth for himselfe: for his mouth craueth it of him.

נֶ֣פֶשׁ עָ֭מֵל עָ֣מְלָה לּ֑/וֹ כִּֽי אָכַ֖ף עָלָ֣י/ו פִּֽי/הוּ

An vngodly man diggeth vp euill: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.

GenevaA wicked man diggeth vp euill, and in his lippes is like burning fire.

אִ֣ישׁ בְּ֭לִיַּעַל כֹּרֶ֣ה רָעָ֑ה וְ/עַל שפתי/ו כְּ/אֵ֣שׁ צָרָֽבֶת

A froward man soweth strife; & a whisperer separateth chiefe friends.

GenevaA frowarde person soweth strife: and a tale teller maketh diuision among princes.

אִ֣ישׁ תַּ֭הְפֻּכוֹת יְשַׁלַּ֣ח מָד֑וֹן וְ֝/נִרְגָּ֗ מַפְרִ֥יד אַלּֽוּף

A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.

GenevaA wicked man deceiueth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.

אִ֣ישׁ חָ֭מָס יְפַתֶּ֣ה רֵעֵ֑/הוּ וְ֝/הוֹלִיכ֗/וֹ בְּ/דֶ֣רֶךְ לֹא טֽוֹב

He shutteth his eyes to deuise froward things: moouing his lips he bringeth euill to passe.

GenevaHe shutteth his eyes to deuise wickednes: he moueth his lippes, and bringeth euil to passe.

עֹצֶ֣ה עֵ֭ינָי/ו לַ/חְשֹׁ֣ב תַּהְפֻּכ֑וֹת קֹרֵ֥ץ שְׂ֝פָתָ֗י/ו כִּלָּ֥ה רָעָֽה

The hoary head is a crowne of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousnesse.

GenevaAge is a crowne of glory, when it is founde in the way of righteousnes.

עֲטֶ֣רֶת תִּפְאֶ֣רֶת שֵׂיבָ֑ה בְּ/דֶ֥רֶךְ צְ֝דָקָ֗ה תִּמָּצֵֽא

He that is slow to anger, is better then the mighty: and he that ruleth his spirit, then he that taketh a citie.

GenevaHe that is slowe vnto anger, is better then the mightie man: and hee that ruleth his owne minde, is better then he that winneth a citie.

ט֤וֹב אֶ֣רֶךְ אַ֭פַּיִם מִ/גִּבּ֑וֹר וּ/מֹשֵׁ֥ל בְּ֝/רוּח֗/וֹ מִ/לֹּכֵ֥ד עִֽיר

The lot is cast into the lap: but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.
