Jeremiah 20

Now Pashur the sonne of Immer the Priest, who was also chiefe gouernor in the house of the LORD, heard that Ieremiah prophecied these things.

וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֤ע פַּשְׁחוּר֙ בֶּן אִמֵּ֣ר הַ/כֹּהֵ֔ן וְ/הֽוּא פָקִ֥יד נָגִ֖יד בְּ/בֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה אֶֽת יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ נִבָּ֖א אֶת הַ/דְּבָרִ֥ים הָ/אֵֽלֶּה

Then Pashur smote Ieremiah the Prophet, and put him in the stockes that were in the high gate of Beniamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

וַ/יַּכֶּ֣ה פַשְׁח֔וּר אֵ֖ת יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַ/נָּבִ֑יא וַ/יִּתֵּ֨ן אֹת֜/וֹ עַל הַ/מַּהְפֶּ֗כֶת אֲשֶׁ֨ר בְּ/שַׁ֤עַר בִּנְיָמִן֙ הָֽ/עֶלְי֔וֹן אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּ/בֵ֥ית יְהוָֽה

And it came to passe on the morrow, that Pashur brought foorth Ieremiah out of the stockes. Then sayd Ieremiah vnto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor-missabib.

וַֽ/יְהִי֙ מִֽ/מָּחֳרָ֔ת וַ/יֹּצֵ֥א פַשְׁח֛וּר אֶֽת יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ מִן הַ/מַּהְפָּ֑כֶת וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜י/ו יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ לֹ֤א פַשְׁחוּר֙ קָרָ֤א יְהוָה֙ שְׁמֶ֔/ךָ כִּ֖י אִם מָג֥וֹר מִ/סָּבִֽיב

For thus sayth the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terrour to thy selfe, and to all thy friends, and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it, and I will giue all Iudah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and hee shall cary them captiue into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

GenevaFor thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will make thee to be a terrour to thy self, and to al thy friends, and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall beholde it, and I will giue all Iudah into the hande of the King of Babel, and he shall cary them captiue into Babel, and shall slay them with the sworde.

כִּ֣י כֹ֣ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֡ה הִנְ/נִי֩ נֹתֶנְ/ךָ֨ לְ/מָג֜וֹר לְ/ךָ֣ וּ/לְ/כָל אֹהֲבֶ֗י/ךָ וְ/נָֽפְל֛וּ בְּ/חֶ֥רֶב אֹיְבֵי/הֶ֖ם וְ/עֵינֶ֣י/ךָ רֹא֑וֹת וְ/אֶת כָּל יְהוּדָ֗ה אֶתֵּן֙ בְּ/יַ֣ד מֶֽלֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל וְ/הִגְלָ֥/ם בָּבֶ֖לָ/ה וְ/הִכָּ֥/ם בֶּ/חָֽרֶב

Moreouer, I will deliuer all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Iudah will I giue into the hand of their enemies which shal spoile them, and take them and cary them to Babylon.

וְ/נָתַתִּ֗י אֶת כָּל חֹ֨סֶן֙ הָ/עִ֣יר הַ/זֹּ֔את וְ/אֶת כָּל יְגִיעָ֖/הּ וְ/אֶת כָּל יְקָרָ֑/הּ וְ/אֵ֨ת כָּל אוֹצְר֜וֹת מַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה אֶתֵּן֙ בְּ/יַ֣ד אֹֽיְבֵי/הֶ֔ם וּ/בְזָזוּ/ם֙ וּ/לְקָח֔וּ/ם וֶ/הֱבִיא֖וּ/ם בָּבֶֽלָ/ה

And thou Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house, shall goe into captiuitie, and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou and all thy friends to whom thou hast prophecied lies.

וְ/אַתָּ֣ה פַשְׁח֗וּר וְ/כֹל֙ יֹשְׁבֵ֣י בֵיתֶ֔/ךָ תֵּלְכ֖וּ בַּ/שֶּׁ֑בִי וּ/בָבֶ֣ל תָּב֗וֹא וְ/שָׁ֤ם תָּמוּת֙ וְ/שָׁ֣ם תִּקָּבֵ֔ר אַתָּה֙ וְ/כָל אֹ֣הֲבֶ֔י/ךָ אֲשֶׁר נִבֵּ֥אתָ לָ/הֶ֖ם בַּ/שָּֽׁקֶר

¶ O LORD, thou hast deceiued me, and I was deceiued, thou art stronger then I, and hast preuailed: I am in derision daily, euery one mocketh me.

פִּתִּיתַ֤/נִי יְהוָה֙ וָֽ/אֶפָּ֔ת חֲזַקְתַּ֖/נִי וַ/תּוּכָ֑ל הָיִ֤יתִי לִ/שְׂחוֹק֙ כָּל הַ/יּ֔וֹם כֻּלֹּ֖/ה לֹעֵ֥ג לִֽ/י

For since I spake I cryed out, I cried violence and spoyle; because the word of the LORD was made a reproch vnto me, and a derision daily?

GenevaFor since I spake, I cryed out of wrong, and proclaimed desolation: therefore the word of the Lord was made a reproche vnto me, and in derision daily.

כִּֽי מִ/דֵּ֤י אֲדַבֵּר֙ אֶזְעָ֔ק חָמָ֥ס וָ/שֹׁ֖ד אֶקְרָ֑א כִּֽי הָיָ֨ה דְבַר יְהוָ֥ה לִ֛/י לְ/חֶרְפָּ֥ה וּ/לְ/קֶ֖לֶס כָּל הַ/יּֽוֹם

Then I said; I will not make mention of him, nor speake any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart, as a burning fire shut vp in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

וְ/אָמַרְתִּ֣י לֹֽא אֶזְכְּרֶ֗/נּוּ וְ/לֹֽא אֲדַבֵּ֥ר עוֹד֙ בִּ/שְׁמ֔/וֹ וְ/הָיָ֤ה בְ/לִבִּ/י֙ כְּ/אֵ֣שׁ בֹּעֶ֔רֶת עָצֻ֖ר בְּ/עַצְמֹתָ֑/י וְ/נִלְאֵ֥יתִי כַּֽלְכֵ֖ל וְ/לֹ֥א אוּכָֽל

¶ For I heard the defaming of many, feare on euery side. Report, say they, and wee will report it: all my familiars watched for my halting, saying; Peraduenture he will be enticed: and we shall preuaile against him, and we shall take our reuenge on him.

כִּ֣י שָׁמַ֜עְתִּי דִּבַּ֣ת רַבִּים֮ מָג֣וֹר מִ/סָּבִיב֒ הַגִּ֨ידוּ֙ וְ/נַגִּידֶ֔/נּוּ כֹּ֚ל אֱנ֣וֹשׁ שְׁלוֹמִ֔/י שֹׁמְרֵ֖י צַלְעִ֑/י אוּלַ֤י יְפֻתֶּה֙ וְ/נ֣וּכְלָה ל֔/וֹ וְ/נִקְחָ֥ה נִקְמָתֵ֖/נוּ מִמֶּֽ/נּוּ

But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutours shall stumble, and they shall not preuaile, they shall be greatly ashamed, for they shall not prosper, their euerlasting confusion shall neuer be forgotten.

וַֽ/יהוָ֤ה אוֹתִ/י֙ כְּ/גִבּ֣וֹר עָרִ֔יץ עַל כֵּ֛ן רֹדְפַ֥/י יִכָּשְׁל֖וּ וְ/לֹ֣א יֻכָ֑לוּ בֹּ֤שׁוּ מְאֹד֙ כִּֽי לֹ֣א הִשְׂכִּ֔ילוּ כְּלִמַּ֥ת עוֹלָ֖ם לֹ֥א תִשָּׁכֵֽחַ

But O LORD of hostes, that tryest the righteous, and seest the reines and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for vnto thee haue I opened my cause.

וַ/יהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ בֹּחֵ֣ן צַדִּ֔יק רֹאֶ֥ה כְלָי֖וֹת וָ/לֵ֑ב אֶרְאֶ֤ה נִקְמָֽתְ/ךָ֙ מֵ/הֶ֔ם כִּ֥י אֵלֶ֖י/ךָ גִּלִּ֥יתִי אֶת רִיבִֽ/י

Sing vnto the LORD, praise yee the LORD: for hee hath deliuered the soule of the poore from the hand of euill doers.

שִׁ֚ירוּ לַֽ/יהוָ֔ה הַֽלְל֖וּ אֶת יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֥י הִצִּ֛יל אֶת נֶ֥פֶשׁ אֶבְי֖וֹן מִ/יַּ֥ד מְרֵעִֽים

¶ Cursed be the day wherein I was borne: let not the day wherein my mother bare mee, be blessed.

Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying: A man child is borne vnto thee, making him very glad.

אָר֣וּר הָ/אִ֗ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֨ר בִּשַּׂ֤ר אֶת אָבִ/י֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר יֻֽלַּד לְ/ךָ֖ בֵּ֣ן זָכָ֑ר שַׂמֵּ֖חַ שִׂמֳּחָֽ/הוּ

And let that man be as the cities which the LORD ouerthrew and repented not: and let him heare the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noonetide,

Because he slew me not from the wombe: or that my mother might haue beene my graue, and her wombe to be alwaies great with me.

אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא מוֹתְתַ֖/נִי מֵ/רָ֑חֶם וַ/תְּהִי לִ֤/י אִמִּ/י֙ קִבְרִ֔/י וְ/רַחְמָ֖/הֿ הֲרַ֥ת עוֹלָֽם

Wherefore came I forth out of the wombe to see labour and sorrow, that my daies should be consumed with shame?
