Judges 14
And Samson went down to Timnath, and sawe a woman in Timnath, of the daughters of the Philistines.
GenevaNowe Samson went downe to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistims,
וַ/יֵּ֥רֶד שִׁמְשׁ֖וֹן תִּמְנָ֑תָ/ה וַ/יַּ֥רְא אִשָּׁ֛ה בְּ/תִמְנָ֖תָ/ה מִ/בְּנ֥וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים
And hee came vp, and told his father and his mother, and said, I haue seene a woman in Timnath, of the daughters of the Philistines: nowe therefore get her for me to wife.
GenevaAnd he came vp and told his father and his mother and saide, I haue seene a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistims: now therfore giue me her to wife.
וַ/יַּ֗עַל וַ/יַּגֵּד֙ לְ/אָבִ֣י/ו וּ/לְ/אִמּ֔/וֹ וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר אִשָּׁ֛ה רָאִ֥יתִי בְ/תִמְנָ֖תָ/ה מִ/בְּנ֣וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וְ/עַתָּ֕ה קְחוּ אוֹתָ֥/הּ לִּ֖/י לְ/אִשָּֽׁה
Then his father and his mother said vnto him, Is there neuer a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the vncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said vnto his father, Get her for me, for shee pleaseth me well.
GenevaThen his father and his mother sayde vnto him, Is there neuer a wife among the daughters of thy brethren, and among all my people, that thou must go to take a wife of the vncircumcised Philistims? And Samson sayd vnto his father, Giue mee her, for she pleaseth me well.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר ל֜/וֹ אָבִ֣י/ו וְ/אִמּ֗/וֹ הַ/אֵין֩ בִּ/בְנ֨וֹת אַחֶ֤י/ךָ וּ/בְ/כָל עַמִּ/י֙ אִשָּׁ֔ה כִּֽי אַתָּ֤ה הוֹלֵךְ֙ לָ/קַ֣חַת אִשָּׁ֔ה מִ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים הָ/עֲרֵלִ֑ים וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר שִׁמְשׁ֤וֹן אֶל אָבִי/ו֙ אוֹתָ֣/הּ קַֽח לִ֔/י כִּֽי הִ֖יא יָשְׁרָ֥ה בְ/עֵינָֽ/י
But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that hee sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion ouer Israel.
GenevaBut his father and his mother knewe not that it came of the Lord, that he should seeke an occasion against the Philistims: for at that time the Philistims reigned ouer Israel.
וְ/אָבִ֨י/ו וְ/אִמּ֜/וֹ לֹ֣א יָדְע֗וּ כִּ֤י מֵ/יְהוָה֙ הִ֔יא כִּי תֹאֲנָ֥ה הֽוּא מְבַקֵּ֖שׁ מִ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וּ/בָ/עֵ֣ת הַ/הִ֔יא פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים מֹשְׁלִ֥ים בְּ/יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
¶ Then went Samson downe, and his father & his mother, to Timnath, and came, to the vineyards of Timnath: and behold, a young Lion roared against him.
GenevaThen went Samson and his father and his mother downe to Timnath, and came to ye vineyardes at Timnath: and beholde, a young Lyon roared vpon him.
וַ/יֵּ֧רֶד שִׁמְשׁ֛וֹן וְ/אָבִ֥י/ו וְ/אִמּ֖/וֹ תִּמְנָ֑תָ/ה וַ/יָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ עַד כַּרְמֵ֣י תִמְנָ֔תָ/ה וְ/הִנֵּה֙ כְּפִ֣יר אֲרָי֔וֹת שֹׁאֵ֖ג לִ/קְרָאתֽ/וֹ
And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily vpon him, and hee rent him as he would haue rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but hee told not his father or his mother what hee had done.
GenevaAnd the Spirit of the Lord came vpon him, and he tare him, as one should haue rent a kid, and had nothing in his hand, neither told he his father nor his mother what he had done.
וַ/תִּצְלַ֨ח עָלָ֜י/ו ר֣וּחַ יְהוָ֗ה וַֽ/יְשַׁסְּעֵ֨/הוּ֙ כְּ/שַׁסַּ֣ע הַ/גְּדִ֔י וּ/מְא֖וּמָה אֵ֣ין בְּ/יָד֑/וֹ וְ/לֹ֤א הִגִּיד֙ לְ/אָבִ֣י/ו וּ/לְ/אִמּ֔/וֹ אֵ֖ת אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה
And hee went downe and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.
GenevaAnd he went down, and talked with the woman which was beautifull in the eyes of Samson.
וַ/יֵּ֖רֶד וַ/יְדַבֵּ֣ר לָ/אִשָּׁ֑ה וַ/תִּישַׁ֖ר בְּ/עֵינֵ֥י שִׁמְשֽׁוֹן
¶ And after a time hee returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carkeis of the Lion: and beholde, there was a swarme of Bees, and honie in the carkeis of the Lion.
GenevaAnd within a fewe dayes, when he returned to receiue her, he went aside to see the karkeis of the Lion: and behold, there was a swarme of bees, and hony in the body of the Lyon.
וַ/יָּ֤שָׁב מִ/יָּמִים֙ לְ/קַחְתָּ֔/הּ וַ/יָּ֣סַר לִ/רְא֔וֹת אֵ֖ת מַפֶּ֣לֶת הָ/אַרְיֵ֑ה וְ/הִנֵּ֨ה עֲדַ֧ת דְּבוֹרִ֛ים בִּ/גְוִיַּ֥ת הָ/אַרְיֵ֖ה וּ/דְבָֽשׁ
And hee tooke thereof in his handes, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and hee gaue them, and they did eate: but he told not them that he had taken the hony out of the carkeis of the Lion.
GenevaAnd he tooke therof in his handes, and went eating, and came to his father and to his mother, and gaue vnto them, and they did eate: but hee told not them, that he had taken the hony out of the body of the lyon.
וַ/יִּרְדֵּ֣/הוּ אֶל כַּפָּ֗י/ו וַ/יֵּ֤לֶךְ הָלוֹךְ֙ וְ/אָכֹ֔ל וַ/יֵּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֶל אָבִ֣י/ו וְ/אֶל אִמּ֔/וֹ וַ/יִּתֵּ֥ן לָ/הֶ֖ם וַ/יֹּאכֵ֑לוּ וְ/לֹֽא הִגִּ֣יד לָ/הֶ֔ם כִּ֛י מִ/גְּוִיַּ֥ת הָ/אַרְיֵ֖ה רָדָ֥ה הַ/דְּבָֽשׁ
¶ So his father went downe vnto the woman, and Samson made there a feast: for so vsed the young men to doe.

וַ/יֵּ֥רֶד אָבִ֖י/הוּ אֶל הָ/אִשָּׁ֑ה וַ/יַּ֨עַשׂ שָׁ֤ם שִׁמְשׁוֹן֙ מִשְׁתֶּ֔ה כִּ֛י כֵּ֥ן יַעֲשׂ֖וּ הַ/בַּחוּרִֽים
And it came to passe when they saw him, that they brought thirtie companions to be with him.
GenevaAnd when they sawe him, they brought thirtie companions to be with him.
וַ/יְהִ֖י כִּ/רְאוֹתָ֣/ם אוֹת֑/וֹ וַ/יִּקְחוּ֙ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים מֵֽרֵעִ֔ים וַ/יִּהְי֖וּ אִתּֽ/וֹ
¶ And Samson said vnto them, I will now put foorth a riddle vnto you: if you can certeinly declare it me, within the seuen dayes of the feast, and finde it out, then I will giue you thirtie sheetes, and thirtie change of garments:
GenevaThen Samson sayd vnto them, I will nowe put forth a riddle vnto you: and if you can declare it me within seuen dayes of the feast, and finde it out, I will giue you thirty sheetes, and thirtie change of garments.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר לָ/הֶם֙ שִׁמְשׁ֔וֹן אָחֽוּדָה נָּ֥א לָ/כֶ֖ם חִידָ֑ה אִם הַגֵּ֣ד תַּגִּידוּ֩ אוֹתָ֨/הּ לִ֜/י שִׁבְעַ֨ת יְמֵ֤י הַ/מִּשְׁתֶּה֙ וּ/מְצָאתֶ֔ם וְ/נָתַתִּ֤י לָ/כֶם֙ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים סְדִינִ֔ים וּ/שְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים חֲלִפֹ֥ת בְּגָדִֽים
But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall yee giue me thirtie sheetes, and thirtie change of garments. And they said vnto him, Put foorth thy riddle, that we may heare it.
GenevaBut if you cannot declare it mee, then shall yee giue mee thirty sheetes and thirtie change of garments. And they answered him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may heare it.
וְ/אִם לֹ֣א תוּכְלוּ֮ לְ/הַגִּ֣יד לִ/י֒ וּ/נְתַתֶּ֨ם אַתֶּ֥ם לִ/י֙ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים סְדִינִ֔ים וּ/שְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים חֲלִיפ֣וֹת בְּגָדִ֑ים וַ/יֹּ֣אמְרוּ ל֔/וֹ ח֥וּדָ/ה חִידָתְ/ךָ֖ וְ/נִשְׁמָעֶֽ/נָּה
And hee said vnto them, Out of the eater came foorth meate, aud out of the strong came foorth sweetnesse. And they could not in three dayes expound the riddle.
GenevaAnd he sayd vnto them, Out of the eater came meate, and out of the strong came sweetenesse: and they could not in three dayes expound the riddle.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָ/הֶ֗ם מֵ/הָֽ/אֹכֵל֙ יָצָ֣א מַאֲכָ֔ל וּ/מֵ/עַ֖ז יָצָ֣א מָת֑וֹק וְ/לֹ֥א יָכְל֛וּ לְ/הַגִּ֥יד הַ/חִידָ֖ה שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת יָמִֽים
And it came to passe on the seuenth day, that they said vnto Samsons wife, Entice thy husband, that hee may declare vnto vs the riddle, lest we burne thee and thy fathers house with fire: Haue yee called vs, to take that wee haue? is it not so?
GenevaAnd when the seuenth day was come, they said vnto Samsons wife, Entise thine husband, that he may declare vs the riddle, lest wee burne thee and thy fathers house with fire. Haue ye called vs, to possesse vs? is it not so?
וַ/יְהִ֣י בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/שְּׁבִיעִ֗י וַ/יֹּאמְר֤וּ לְ/אֵֽשֶׁת שִׁמְשׁוֹן֙ פַּתִּ֣י אֶת אִישֵׁ֗/ךְ וְ/יַגֶּד לָ֨/נוּ֙ אֶת הַ֣/חִידָ֔ה פֶּן נִשְׂרֹ֥ף אוֹתָ֛/ךְ וְ/אֶת בֵּ֥ית אָבִ֖י/ךְ בָּ/אֵ֑שׁ הַ/לְ/יָרְשֵׁ֕/נוּ קְרָאתֶ֥ם לָ֖/נוּ הֲ/לֹֽא
And Samsons wife wept before him, and said, Thou doest but hate me, and louest me not: thou hast put foorth a riddle vnto the children of my people, and hast not tolde it me. And hee said vnto her, Behold, I haue not tolde it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
GenevaAnd Samsons wife wept before him, and said, Surely thou hatest mee and louest mee not: for thou hast put forth a riddle vnto the children of my people, and hast not told it mee. And hee sayd vnto her, Beholde, I haue not told it my father, nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
וַ/תֵּבְךְּ֩ אֵ֨שֶׁת שִׁמְשׁ֜וֹן עָלָ֗י/ו וַ/תֹּ֨אמֶר֙ רַק שְׂנֵאתַ֨/נִי֙ וְ/לֹ֣א אֲהַבְתָּ֔/נִי הַֽ/חִידָ֥ה חַ֨דְתָּ֙ לִ/בְנֵ֣י עַמִּ֔/י וְ/לִ֖/י לֹ֣א הִגַּ֑דְתָּה וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָ֗/הּ הִנֵּ֨ה לְ/אָבִ֧/י וּ/לְ/אִמִּ֛/י לֹ֥א הִגַּ֖דְתִּי וְ/לָ֥/ךְ אַגִּֽיד
And shee wept before him the seuen dayes, while the feast lasted: and it came to passe on the seuenth day, that he tolde her, because shee lay sore vpon him: and she tolde the riddle to the children of her people.
GenevaThen Samsons wife wept before him seuen dayes, while their feast lasted: and when the seuenth day came he tolde her, because she was importunate vpon him: so she told the riddle to the children of her people.
וַ/תֵּ֤בְךְּ עָלָי/ו֙ שִׁבְעַ֣ת הַ/יָּמִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר הָיָ֥ה לָ/הֶ֖ם הַ/מִּשְׁתֶּ֑ה וַ/יְהִ֣י בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/שְּׁבִיעִ֗י וַ/יַּגֶּד לָ/הּ֙ כִּ֣י הֱצִיקַ֔תְ/הוּ וַ/תַּגֵּ֥ד הַ/חִידָ֖ה לִ/בְנֵ֥י עַמָּֽ/הּ
And the men of the city said vnto him on the seuenth day before the sunne went downe, What is sweeter then honie? and what is stronger then a Lion? And he said vnto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, yee had not found out my riddle.
GenevaAnd the men of ye citie sayde vnto him the seuenth day before the Sunne went downe, What is sweeter then honie? and what is stronger then a lyon? Then sayd hee vnto them, If yee had not plowed with my heiffer, yee had not found out my riddle.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמְרוּ ל/וֹ֩ אַנְשֵׁ֨י הָ/עִ֜יר בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/שְּׁבִיעִ֗י בְּ/טֶ֨רֶם֙ יָבֹ֣א הַ/חַ֔רְסָ/ה מַה מָּת֣וֹק מִ/דְּבַ֔שׁ וּ/מֶ֥ה עַ֖ז מֵ/אֲרִ֑י וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָ/הֶ֔ם לוּלֵא֙ חֲרַשְׁתֶּ֣ם בְּ/עֶגְלָתִ֔/י לֹ֥א מְצָאתֶ֖ם חִידָתִֽ/י
¶ And the Spirit of the LORD came vpon him, and hee went downe to Ashkelon, and slewe thirtie men of them, and tooke their spoile, and gaue change of garments vnto them which expounded the riddle, and his anger was kindled; and hee went vp to his fathers house.
GenevaAnd the Spirite of the Lord came vpon him, and he went downe to Ashkelon, and slew thirtie men of them and spoyled them, and gaue chaunge of garments vnto them, which expounded the riddle: and his wrath was kindled, and he went vp to his fathers house.
וַ/תִּצְלַ֨ח עָלָ֜י/ו ר֣וּחַ יְהוָ֗ה וַ/יֵּ֨רֶד אַשְׁקְל֜וֹן וַ/יַּ֥ךְ מֵ/הֶ֣ם שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים אִ֗ישׁ וַ/יִּקַּח֙ אֶת חֲלִ֣יצוֹתָ֔/ם וַ/יִּתֵּן֙ הַ/חֲלִיפ֔וֹת לְ/מַגִּידֵ֖י הַ/חִידָ֑ה וַ/יִּ֣חַר אַפּ֔/וֹ וַ/יַּ֖עַל בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽי/הוּ
But Samsons wife was giuen to his companion, whom hee had vsed as his friend.
