Job 8

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

וַ֭/יַּעַן בִּלְדַּ֥ד הַ/שּׁוּחִ֗י וַ/יֹאמַֽר

How long wilt thou speake these things? and how long shall the wordes of thy mouth be like a strong wind?

GenevaHowe long wilt thou talke of these things? and howe long shall the wordes of thy mouth be as a mightie winde?

עַד אָ֥ן תְּמַלֶּל אֵ֑לֶּה וְ/ר֥וּחַ כַּ֝בִּיר אִמְרֵי פִֽי/ךָ

Doth God peruert iudgement? or doth the Almightie peruert iustice?

GenevaDoeth God peruert iudgement? or doeth the Almightie subuert iustice?

הַ֭/אֵל יְעַוֵּ֣ת מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וְ/אִם שַׁ֝דַּ֗י יְעַוֵּֽת צֶֽדֶק

If thy children haue sinned against him, and he haue cast them away for their transgression:

GenevaIf thy sonnes haue sinned against him, and he hath sent them into the place of their iniquitie,

אִם בָּנֶ֥י/ךָ חָֽטְאוּ ל֑/וֹ וַֽ֝/יְשַׁלְּחֵ֗/ם בְּ/יַד פִּשְׁעָֽ/ם

If thou wouldest seeke vnto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almightie:

GenevaYet if thou wilt early seeke vnto God, and pray to the Almightie,

אִם אַ֭תָּה תְּשַׁחֵ֣ר אֶל אֵ֑ל וְ/אֶל שַׁ֝דַּ֗י תִּתְחַנָּֽן

If thou wert pure and vpright, surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousnes prosperous.

GenevaIf thou be pure and vpright, then surely hee will awake vp vnto thee, and he wil make the habitation of thy righteousnesse prosperous.

אִם זַ֥ךְ וְ/יָשָׁ֗ר אָ֥תָּה כִּי עַ֭תָּה יָעִ֣יר עָלֶ֑י/ךָ וְ֝/שִׁלַּ֗ם נְוַ֣ת צִדְקֶֽ/ךָ

Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

GenevaAnd though thy beginning be small, yet thy latter ende shall greatly encrease.

וְ/הָיָ֣ה רֵאשִׁיתְ/ךָ֣ מִצְעָ֑ר וְ֝/אַחֲרִיתְ/ךָ֗ יִשְׂגֶּ֥ה מְאֹֽד

For enquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thy selfe to the search of their fathers.

כִּֽי שְׁאַל נָ֭א לְ/דֹ֣ר רִישׁ֑וֹן וְ֝/כוֹנֵ֗ן לְ/חֵ֣קֶר אֲבוֹתָֽ/ם

(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our dayes vpon earth are a shadow.)

Geneva(For we are but of yesterday, and are ignorant: for our dayes vpon earth are but a shadowe)

כִּֽי תְמ֣וֹל אֲ֭נַחְנוּ וְ/לֹ֣א נֵדָ֑ע כִּ֤י צֵ֖ל יָמֵ֣י/נוּ עֲלֵי אָֽרֶץ

Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, & vtter words out of their heart?

GenevaShall not they teach thee and tell thee, and vtter the wordes of their heart?

הֲ/לֹא הֵ֣ם י֭וֹרוּ/ךָ יֹ֣אמְרוּ לָ֑/ךְ וּ֝/מִ/לִּבָּ֗/ם יוֹצִ֥אוּ מִלִּֽים

Can the rush growe vp without myre? can the flag growe without water?

GenevaCan a rush grow without myre? or can ye grasse growe without water?

הֲ/יִֽגְאֶה גֹּ֭מֶא בְּ/לֹ֣א בִצָּ֑ה יִשְׂגֶּה אָ֥חוּ בְלִי מָֽיִם

Whilest it is yet in his greennesse, and not cut downe, it withereth before any other herbe.

GenevaThough it were in greene and not cutte downe, yet shall it wither before any other herbe.

עֹדֶ֣/נּוּ בְ֭/אִבּ/וֹ לֹ֣א יִקָּטֵ֑ף וְ/לִ/פְנֵ֖י כָל חָצִ֣יר יִיבָֽשׁ

So are the paths of all that forget God, and the hypocrites hope shall perish:

GenevaSo are the paths of al that forget God, and the hypocrites hope shall perish.

כֵּ֗ן אָ֭רְחוֹת כָּל שֹׁ֣כְחֵי אֵ֑ל וְ/תִקְוַ֖ת חָנֵ֣ף תֹּאבֵֽד

Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spiders web.

GenevaHis confidence also shalbe cut off, and his trust shalbe as the house of a spyder.

אֲשֶׁר יָק֥וֹט כִּסְל֑/וֹ וּ/בֵ֥ית עַ֝כָּבִ֗ישׁ מִבְטַחֽ/וֹ

He shall leane vpon his house, but it shall not stand: he shal hold it fast, but it shall not endure.

GenevaHe shall leane vpon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall holde him fast by it, yet shall it not endure.

יִשָּׁעֵ֣ן עַל בֵּ֭ית/וֹ וְ/לֹ֣א יַעֲמֹ֑ד יַחֲזִ֥יק בּ֝֗/וֹ וְ/לֹ֣א יָקֽוּם

He is greene before the sunne, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.

GenevaThe tree is greene before the sunne, and the branches spread ouer the garden thereof.

רָטֹ֣ב ה֭וּא לִ/פְנֵי שָׁ֑מֶשׁ וְ/עַ֥ל גַּ֝נָּת֗/וֹ יֹֽנַקְתּ֥/וֹ תֵצֵֽא

His roots are wrapped about the heape, and seeth the place of stones.

GenevaThe rootes thereof are wrapped about the fountaine, and are folden about ye house of stones.

עַל גַּ֭ל שָֽׁרָשָׁ֣י/ו יְסֻבָּ֑כוּ בֵּ֖ית אֲבָנִ֣ים יֶחֱזֶֽה

If he destroy him from his place, then it shal denie him, saying, I haue not seene thee.

GenevaIf any plucke it from his place, and it denie, saying, I haue not seene thee,

אִם יְבַלְּעֶ֥/נּוּ מִ/מְּקוֹמ֑/וֹ וְ/כִ֥חֶשׁ בּ֝֗/וֹ לֹ֣א רְאִיתִֽי/ךָ

Beholde, this is the ioy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.

GenevaBeholde, it will reioyce by this meanes, that it may growe in another molde.

הֶן ה֭וּא מְשׂ֣וֹשׂ דַּרְכּ֑/וֹ וּ֝/מֵ/עָפָ֗ר אַחֵ֥ר יִצְמָֽחוּ

Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will hee helpe the euill doers:

GenevaBehold, God will not cast away an vpright man, neither will he take the wicked by the hand,

הֶן אֵ֭ל לֹ֣א יִמְאַס תָּ֑ם וְ/לֹֽא יַ֝חֲזִ֗יק בְּ/יַד מְרֵעִֽים

Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with reioycing.

GenevaTill he haue filled thy mouth with laughter, and thy lippes with ioy.

עַד יְמַלֵּ֣ה שְׂח֣וֹק פִּ֑י/ךָ וּ/שְׂפָתֶ֥י/ךָ תְרוּעָֽה

They that hate thee shall be cloathed with shame, and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.

GenevaThey that hate thee, shall be clothed with shame, and the dwelling of the wicked shall not remaine.

שֹׂנְאֶ֥י/ךָ יִלְבְּשׁוּ בֹ֑שֶׁת וְ/אֹ֖הֶל רְשָׁעִ֣ים אֵינֶֽ/נּוּ
