Job 28
Surely there is a veine for the siluer, and a place for golde where they fine it.
GenevaThe siluer surely hath his veyne, and ye gold his place, where they take it.
כִּ֤י יֵ֣שׁ לַ/כֶּ֣סֶף מוֹצָ֑א וּ֝/מָק֗וֹם לַ/זָּהָ֥ב יָזֹֽקּוּ
Iron is taken out of the earth, and brasse is molten out of the stone.
GenevaYron is taken out of the dust, and brasse is molten out of the stone.
בַּ֭רְזֶל מֵ/עָפָ֣ר יֻקָּ֑ח וְ֝/אֶ֗בֶן יָצ֥וּק נְחוּשָֽׁה
Hee setteth an ende to darkenesse, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkenesse and the shadow of death.
GenevaGod putteth an end to darkenesse, and he tryeth the perfection of all things: he setteth a bond of darkenesse, and of the shadowe of death.
קֵ֤ץ שָׂ֤ם לַ/חֹ֗שֶׁךְ וּֽ/לְ/כָל תַּ֭כְלִית ה֣וּא חוֹקֵ֑ר אֶ֖בֶן אֹ֣פֶל וְ/צַלְמָֽוֶת
The floud breaketh out from the inhabitant; euen the waters forgotten of the foote: they are dried vp, they are gone away from men.
GenevaThe flood breaketh out against the inhabitant, and the waters forgotten of the foote, being higher then man, are gone away.
פָּ֤רַץ נַ֨חַל מֵֽ/עִם גָּ֗ר הַֽ/נִּשְׁכָּחִ֥ים מִנִּי רָ֑גֶל דַּ֖לּוּ מֵ/אֱנ֣וֹשׁ נָֽעוּ
As for the earth, out of it commeth bread: and vnder it, is turned vp as it were fire.
GenevaOut of the same earth commeth bread, and vnder it, as it were fire is turned vp.
אֶ֗רֶץ מִמֶּ֥/נָּה יֵֽצֵא לָ֑חֶם וְ֝/תַחְתֶּ֗י/הָ נֶהְפַּ֥ךְ כְּמוֹ אֵֽשׁ
The stones of it are the place of Saphires: and it hath dust of golde.
GenevaThe stones thereof are a place of saphirs, and the dust of it is golde.
מְקוֹם סַפִּ֥יר אֲבָנֶ֑י/הָ וְ/עַפְרֹ֖ת זָהָ֣ב לֽ/וֹ
There is a path which no foule knoweth, and which the vulturs eye hath not seene.
GenevaThere is a path which no foule hath knowen, neyther hath the kites eye seene it.
נָ֭תִיב לֹֽא יְדָ֣ע/וֹ עָ֑יִט וְ/לֹ֥א שְׁ֝זָפַ֗תּ/וּ עֵ֣ין אַיָּֽה
The lyons whelps haue not troden it, nor the fierce lyon passed by it.
GenevaThe lyons whelpes haue not walked it, nor the lyon passed thereby.
לֹֽא הִדְרִיכֻ֥/הוּ בְנֵי שָׁ֑חַץ לֹֽא עָדָ֖ה עָלָ֣י/ו שָֽׁחַל
Hee putteth foorth his hand vpon the rocke; hee ouerturneth the mountaines by the rootes.
GenevaHe putteth his hand vpon the rockes, and ouerthroweth the mountaines by the rootes.
בַּֽ֭/חַלָּמִישׁ שָׁלַ֣ח יָד֑/וֹ הָפַ֖ךְ מִ/שֹּׁ֣רֶשׁ הָרִֽים
Hee cutteth out riuers among the rockes, and his eye seeth euery precious thing.
GenevaHe breaketh riuers in the rockes, and his eye seeth euery precious thing.
בַּ֭/צּוּרוֹת יְאֹרִ֣ים בִּקֵּ֑עַ וְ/כָל יְ֝קָ֗ר רָאֲתָ֥ה עֵינֽ/וֹ
He bindeth the flouds from ouerflowing, and the thing that is hid, bringeth he foorth to light.
GenevaHe bindeth the floods, that they doe not ouerflowe, and the thing that is hid, bringeth he to light.
מִ֭/בְּכִי נְהָר֣וֹת חִבֵּ֑שׁ וְ֝/תַעֲלֻמָ֗הּ יֹ֣צִא אֽוֹר
But where shall wisedome bee found? and where is the place of vnderstanding?
GenevaBut where is wisdome found? and where is the place of vnderstanding?
וְֽ֭/הַ/חָכְמָה מֵ/אַ֣יִן תִּמָּצֵ֑א וְ/אֵ֥י זֶ֝ה מְק֣וֹם בִּינָֽה
Man knoweth not the price thereof neither is it found in the land of the liuing.
GenevaMan knoweth not the price thereof: for it is not found in the land of the liuing.
לֹא יָדַ֣ע אֱנ֣וֹשׁ עֶרְכָּ֑/הּ וְ/לֹ֥א תִ֝מָּצֵ֗א בְּ/אֶ֣רֶץ הַֽ/חַיִּֽים
The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
GenevaThe depth sayth, It is not in mee: the sea also sayth, It is not with me.
תְּה֣וֹם אָ֭מַר לֹ֣א בִ/י הִ֑יא וְ/יָ֥ם אָ֝מַ֗ר אֵ֣ין עִמָּדִֽ/י
It cannot be gotten for golde, neither shall siluer be weighed for the price thereof.
GenevaGolde shall not be giuen for it, neyther shall siluer be weighed for the price thereof.
לֹא יֻתַּ֣ן סְג֣וֹר תַּחְתֶּ֑י/הָ וְ/לֹ֥א יִ֝שָּׁקֵ֗ל כֶּ֣סֶף מְחִירָֽ/הּ
It cannot be valued with the golde of Ophir, with the precious Onix, or the Saphire.
GenevaIt shall not be valued with the wedge of golde of Ophir, nor with the precious onix, nor the saphir.
לֹֽא תְ֭סֻלֶּה בְּ/כֶ֣תֶם אוֹפִ֑יר בְּ/שֹׁ֖הַם יָקָ֣ר וְ/סַפִּֽיר
The golde and the chrystall cannot equall it: and the exchange of it shall not be for iewels of fine golde.
GenevaThe golde nor the chrystall shall be equall vnto it, nor the exchange shalbe for plate of fine golde.
לֹא יַעַרְכֶ֣/נָּה זָ֭הָב וּ/זְכוֹכִ֑ית וּ/תְמ֖וּרָתָ֣/הּ כְּלִי פָֽז
No mention shalbe made of Corall, or of Pearles: for the price of wisedome is aboue Rubies.
GenevaNo mention shall be made of coral, nor of the gabish: for wisedome is more precious then pearles.
רָאמ֣וֹת וְ֭/גָבִישׁ לֹ֣א יִזָּכֵ֑ר וּ/מֶ֥שֶׁךְ חָ֝כְמָ֗ה מִ/פְּנִינִֽים
The Topaze of Ethiopia shall not equall it, neither shall it be valued with pure golde.
GenevaThe Topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equall vnto it, neither shall it be valued with the wedge of pure gold.
לֹֽא יַ֭עַרְכֶ/נָּה פִּטְדַת כּ֑וּשׁ בְּ/כֶ֥תֶם טָ֝ה֗וֹר לֹ֣א תְסֻלֶּֽה
Whence then commeth wisedome? and where is the place of vnderstanding?
GenevaWhence then commeth wisedome? and where is the place of vnderstanding,
וְֽ֭/הַ/חָכְמָה מֵ/אַ֣יִן תָּב֑וֹא וְ/אֵ֥י זֶ֝֗ה מְק֣וֹם בִּינָֽה
Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all liuing, and kept close from the foules of the ayre.

וְֽ֭/נֶעֶלְמָה מֵ/עֵינֵ֣י כָל חָ֑י וּ/מֵ/ע֖וֹף הַ/שָּׁמַ֣יִם נִסְתָּֽרָה
Destruction and death say, Wee haue heard the fame thereof with our eares.

אֲבַדּ֣וֹן וָ֭/מָוֶת אָ֣מְר֑וּ בְּ֝/אָזְנֵ֗י/נוּ שָׁמַ֥עְנוּ שִׁמְעָֽ/הּ
God vnderstandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

אֱ֭לֹהִים הֵבִ֣ין דַּרְכָּ֑/הּ וְ֝/ה֗וּא יָדַ֥ע אֶת מְקוֹמָֽ/הּ
For hee looketh to the endes of the earth, and seeth vnder the whole heauen:
GenevaFor he beholdeth the endes of the world, and seeth all that is vnder heauen,
כִּי ה֭וּא לִ/קְצוֹת הָ/אָ֣רֶץ יַבִּ֑יט תַּ֖חַת כָּל הַ/שָּׁמַ֣יִם יִרְאֶֽה
To make the weight for the windes, and he weigheth the waters by measure.
GenevaTo make the weight of the windes, and to weigh the waters by measure.
לַ/עֲשׂ֣וֹת לָ/ר֣וּחַ מִשְׁקָ֑ל וּ֝/מַ֗יִם תִּכֵּ֥ן בְּ/מִדָּֽה
When hee made a decree for the raine, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
GenevaWhen he made a decree for the rayne, and a way for the lightening of the thunders,
בַּ/עֲשֹׂת֣/וֹ לַ/מָּטָ֣ר חֹ֑ק וְ֝/דֶ֗רֶךְ לַ/חֲזִ֥יז קֹלֽוֹת
Then did he see it, and declare it, he prepared it, yea and searched it out.
GenevaThen did he see it, and counted it: he prepared it and also considered it.
אָ֣ז רָ֭אָ/הּ וַֽ/יְסַפְּרָ֑/הּ הֱ֝כִינָ֗/הּ וְ/גַם חֲקָרָֽ/הּ
And vnto man he said, Behold, the feare of the Lord, that is wisedome, and to depart from euill, is vnderstanding.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר לָֽ/אָדָ֗ם הֵ֤ן יִרְאַ֣ת אֲ֭דֹנָ/י הִ֣יא חָכְמָ֑ה וְ/ס֖וּר מֵ/רָ֣ע בִּינָֽה
