Chapter 54
Isaiah 54
Sing O barren thou that didst not beare; breake forth into singing, and crie aloud thou that didst not trauell with child: for more are the children of the desolate then the children of the maried wife, saith the LORD.
GenevaRejoice, O barren that diddest not beare: breake forth into ioy and reioyce, thou that diddest not trauaile with childe: for the desolate hath moe children then the married wife, sayeth the Lord.
רָנִּ֥י עֲקָרָ֖ה לֹ֣א יָלָ֑דָה פִּצְחִ֨י רִנָּ֤ה וְ/צַהֲלִי֙ לֹא חָ֔לָה כִּֽי רַבִּ֧ים בְּֽנֵי שׁוֹמֵמָ֛ה מִ/בְּנֵ֥י בְעוּלָ֖ה אָמַ֥ר יְהוָֽה
Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtaines of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes.

הַרְחִ֣יבִי מְק֣וֹם אָהֳלֵ֗/ךְ וִ/ירִיע֧וֹת מִשְׁכְּנוֹתַ֛יִ/ךְ יַטּ֖וּ אַל תַּחְשֹׂ֑כִי הַאֲרִ֨יכִי֙ מֵֽיתָרַ֔יִ/ךְ וִ/יתֵדֹתַ֖יִ/ךְ חַזֵּֽקִי
For thou shalt breake forth on the right hand, and on the left; and thy seed shall inherite the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
GenevaFor thou shalt increase on the right hande and on the left, and thy seede shall possesse the Gentiles, and dwell in the desolate cities.
כִּי יָמִ֥ין וּ/שְׂמֹ֖אול תִּפְרֹ֑צִי וְ/זַרְעֵ/ךְ֙ גּוֹיִ֣ם יִירָ֔שׁ וְ/עָרִ֥ים נְשַׁמּ֖וֹת יוֹשִֽׁיבוּ
Feare not: for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded, for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.

אַל תִּֽירְאִי֙ כִּי לֹ֣א תֵב֔וֹשִׁי וְ/אַל תִּכָּלְמִ֖י כִּ֣י לֹ֣א תַחְפִּ֑ירִי כִּ֣י בֹ֤שֶׁת עֲלוּמַ֨יִ/ךְ֙ תִּשְׁכָּ֔חִי וְ/חֶרְפַּ֥ת אַלְמְנוּתַ֖יִ/ךְ לֹ֥א תִזְכְּרִי עֽוֹד
For thy maker is thine husband, (the LORD of hostes is his name;) and thy redeemer the holy one of Israel, the God of the whole earth shall he be called.
GenevaFor hee that made thee, is thine husband (whose Name is the Lord of hostes) and thy redeemer the Holy one of Israel, shall be called the God of the whole world.
כִּ֤י בֹעֲלַ֨יִ/ךְ֙ עֹשַׂ֔יִ/ךְ יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת שְׁמ֑/וֹ וְ/גֹֽאֲלֵ/ךְ֙ קְד֣וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֱלֹהֵ֥י כָל הָ/אָ֖רֶץ יִקָּרֵֽא
For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken, and grieued in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.
GenevaFor the Lord hath called thee, being as a woman forsaken, and afflicted in spirite, and as a yong wife when thou wast refused, sayth thy God.
כִּֽי כְ/אִשָּׁ֧ה עֲזוּבָ֛ה וַ/עֲצ֥וּבַת ר֖וּחַ קְרָאָ֣/ךְ יְהוָ֑ה וְ/אֵ֧שֶׁת נְעוּרִ֛ים כִּ֥י תִמָּאֵ֖ס אָמַ֥ר אֱלֹהָֽיִ/ךְ
For a small moment haue I forsaken thee, but with great mercies will I gather thee.
GenevaFor a litle while haue I forsaken thee, but with great compassion will I gather thee.
בְּ/רֶ֥גַע קָטֹ֖ן עֲזַבְתִּ֑י/ךְ וּ/בְ/רַחֲמִ֥ים גְּדֹלִ֖ים אֲקַבְּצֵֽ/ךְ
In a litle wrath I hid my face from thee, for a moment; but with euerlasting kindnesse will I haue mercie on thee, saith the LORD thy redeemer.
GenevaFor a moment, in mine anger, I hid my face from thee for a litle season, but with euerlasting mercy haue I had compassion on thee, sayth the Lord thy redeemer.
בְּ/שֶׁ֣צֶף קֶ֗צֶף הִסְתַּ֨רְתִּי פָנַ֥/י רֶ֨גַע֙ מִמֵּ֔/ךְ וּ/בְ/חֶ֥סֶד עוֹלָ֖ם רִֽחַמְתִּ֑י/ךְ אָמַ֥ר גֹּאֲלֵ֖/ךְ יְהוָֽה
For this is as the waters of Noah vnto me: for as I haue sworne that the waters of Noah should no more goe ouer the earth; so haue I sworne that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.
GenevaFor this is vnto me as the waters of Noah: for as I haue sworne that the waters of Noah should no more goe ouer the earth, so haue I sworne that I would not be angrie with thee, nor rebuke thee.
כִּי מֵ֥י נֹ֨חַ֙ זֹ֣את לִ֔/י אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁבַּ֗עְתִּי מֵ/עֲבֹ֥ר מֵי נֹ֛חַ ע֖וֹד עַל הָ/אָ֑רֶץ כֵּ֥ן נִשְׁבַּ֛עְתִּי מִ/קְּצֹ֥ף עָלַ֖יִ/ךְ וּ/מִ/גְּעָר בָּֽ/ךְ
For the mountaines shall depart, and the hilles be remoued, but my kindnesse shall not depart from thee, neither shall the couenant of my peace be remoued, saith the LORD, that hath mercie on thee.
GenevaFor the mountaines shall remoue and the hilles shall fall downe: but my mercy shall not depart from thee, neither shall the couenant of my peace fall away, saith the Lord, that hath compassion on thee.
כִּ֤י הֶֽ/הָרִים֙ יָמ֔וּשׁוּ וְ/הַ/גְּבָע֖וֹת תְּמוּטֶ֑נָה וְ/חַסְדִּ֞/י מֵ/אִתֵּ֣/ךְ לֹֽא יָמ֗וּשׁ וּ/בְרִ֤ית שְׁלוֹמִ/י֙ לֹ֣א תָמ֔וּט אָמַ֥ר מְרַחֲמֵ֖/ךְ יְהוָֽה
¶ Oh thou afflicted, tossed with tempest and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with faire colours, and lay thy foundations with Saphires.
GenevaO thou afflicted and tossed with tempest, that hast no comfort, beholde, I wil lay thy stones with the carbuncle, and lay thy foundation with saphirs,
עֲנִיָּ֥ה סֹעֲרָ֖ה לֹ֣א נֻחָ֑מָה הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י מַרְבִּ֤יץ בַּ/פּוּךְ֙ אֲבָנַ֔יִ/ךְ וִ/יסַדְתִּ֖י/ךְ בַּ/סַּפִּירִֽים
And I will make thy windowes of Agates, and thy gates of Carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.
GenevaAnd I will make thy windowes of emeraudes, and thy gates shining stones, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.
וְ/שַׂמְתִּ֤י כַּֽדְכֹד֙ שִׁמְשֹׁתַ֔יִ/ךְ וּ/שְׁעָרַ֖יִ/ךְ לְ/אַבְנֵ֣י אֶקְדָּ֑ח וְ/כָל גְּבוּלֵ֖/ךְ לְ/אַבְנֵי חֵֽפֶץ
And all thy children shalbe taught of the LORD, and great shalbe the peace of thy children.
GenevaAnd all thy children shalbe taught of the Lord, and much peace shalbe to thy children.
וְ/כָל בָּנַ֖יִ/ךְ לִמּוּדֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְ/רַ֖ב שְׁל֥וֹם בָּנָֽיִ/ךְ
In righteousnesse shalt thou be established: thou shalt be farre from oppression, for thou shalt not feare; & from terrour, for it shall not come neere thee.
GenevaIn righteousnes shalt thou be established, and be farre from oppression: for thou shalt not feare it: and from feare, for it shall not come neere thee.
בִּ/צְדָקָ֖ה תִּכּוֹנָ֑נִי רַחֲקִ֤י מֵ/עֹ֨שֶׁק֙ כִּֽי לֹ֣א תִירָ֔אִי וּ/מִ֨/מְּחִתָּ֔ה כִּ֥י לֹֽא תִקְרַ֖ב אֵלָֽיִ/ךְ
Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoeuer shal gather together against thee, shall fall for thy sake.
GenevaBeholde, the enemie shall gather himselfe, but without me: whosoeuer shall gather himselfe in thee, against thee, shall fall.
הֵ֣ן גּ֥וֹר יָג֛וּר אֶ֖פֶס מֵֽ/אוֹתִ֑/י מִי גָ֥ר אִתָּ֖/ךְ עָלַ֥יִ/ךְ יִפּֽוֹל
Behold, I haue created the smith that bloweth the coales in the fire, and that bringeth foorth an instrument for his worke, and I haue created the waster to destroy.

הן אָֽנֹכִי֙ בָּרָ֣אתִי חָרָ֔שׁ נֹפֵ֨חַ֙ בְּ/אֵ֣שׁ פֶּחָ֔ם וּ/מוֹצִ֥יא כְלִ֖י לְ/מַעֲשֵׂ֑/הוּ וְ/אָנֹכִ֛י בָּרָ֥אתִי מַשְׁחִ֖ית לְ/חַבֵּֽל
¶ No weapon that is formed against thee, shall prosper, and euery tongue that shall rise against thee in iudgement, thou shalt condemne. This is the heritage of the seruants of the LORD, and their righteousnesse is of me, saith the LORD.
GenevaBut all the weapons that are made against thee, shall not prosper: and euery tongue that shall rise against thee in iudgement, thou shalt condemne. This is the heritage of the Lords seruants, and their righteousnesse is of me, sayth the Lord.
כָּל כְּלִ֞י יוּצַ֤ר עָלַ֨יִ/ךְ֙ לֹ֣א יִצְלָ֔ח וְ/כָל לָשׁ֛וֹן תָּֽקוּם אִתָּ֥/ךְ לַ/מִּשְׁפָּ֖ט תַּרְשִׁ֑יעִי זֹ֡את נַחֲלַת֩ עַבְדֵ֨י יְהוָ֧ה וְ/צִדְקָתָ֛/ם מֵ/אִתִּ֖/י נְאֻם יְהוָֽה
