Chapter 42
Isaiah 42
Behold my seruant whome I vphold, mine elect in whom my soule delighteth: I haue put my Spirit vpon him, he shall bring forth iudgement to the Gentiles.

הֵ֤ן עַבְדִּ/י֙ אֶתְמָךְ בּ֔/וֹ בְּחִירִ֖/י רָצְתָ֣ה נַפְשִׁ֑/י נָתַ֤תִּי רוּחִ/י֙ עָלָ֔י/ו מִשְׁפָּ֖ט לַ/גּוֹיִ֥ם יוֹצִֽיא
Hee shall not crie, nor lift vp, nor cause his voyce to bee heard in the streete.

לֹ֥א יִצְעַ֖ק וְ/לֹ֣א יִשָּׂ֑א וְ/לֹֽא יַשְׁמִ֥יעַ בַּ/ח֖וּץ קוֹלֽ/וֹ
A bruised reed shall he not breake, and the smoking flaxe shall hee not quench: he shall bring forth iudgment vnto trueth.

קָנֶ֤ה רָצוּץ֙ לֹ֣א יִשְׁבּ֔וֹר וּ/פִשְׁתָּ֥ה כֵהָ֖ה לֹ֣א יְכַבֶּ֑/נָּה לֶ/אֱמֶ֖ת יוֹצִ֥יא מִשְׁפָּֽט
He shall not faile nor be discouraged, till he haue set iudgement in the earth: and the yles shall waite for his lawe.

לֹ֤א יִכְהֶה֙ וְ/לֹ֣א יָר֔וּץ עַד יָשִׂ֥ים בָּ/אָ֖רֶץ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ/לְ/תוֹרָת֖/וֹ אִיִּ֥ים יְיַחֵֽילוּ
¶ Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heauens, and stretched them out, he that spread foorth the earth and that which commeth out of it, he that giueth breath vnto the people vpon it, and spirit to them that walke therein:

כֹּֽה אָמַ֞ר הָ/אֵ֣ל יְהוָ֗ה בּוֹרֵ֤א הַ/שָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ וְ/נ֣וֹטֵי/הֶ֔ם רֹקַ֥ע הָ/אָ֖רֶץ וְ/צֶאֱצָאֶ֑י/הָ נֹתֵ֤ן נְשָׁמָה֙ לָ/עָ֣ם עָלֶ֔י/הָ וְ/ר֖וּחַ לַ/הֹלְכִ֥ים בָּֽ/הּ
I the LORD haue called thee in righteousnes, and wil hold thine hand, and will keepe thee, and giue thee for a couenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles:

אֲנִ֧י יְהוָ֛ה קְרָאתִ֥י/ךָֽ בְ/צֶ֖דֶק וְ/אַחְזֵ֣ק בְּ/יָדֶ֑/ךָ וְ/אֶצָּרְ/ךָ֗ וְ/אֶתֶּנְ/ךָ֛ לִ/בְרִ֥ית עָ֖ם לְ/א֥וֹר גּוֹיִֽם
To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkenesse out of the prison house.
GenevaThat thou maist open the eyes of the blind, and bring out the prisoners from the prison: and them that sitte in darkenesse, out of the prison house.
לִ/פְקֹ֖חַ עֵינַ֣יִם עִוְר֑וֹת לְ/הוֹצִ֤יא מִ/מַּסְגֵּר֙ אַסִּ֔יר מִ/בֵּ֥ית כֶּ֖לֶא יֹ֥שְׁבֵי חֹֽשֶׁךְ
I am the LORD; that is my name, and my glory will I not giue to another, neither my praise to grauen images.

אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה ה֣וּא שְׁמִ֑/י וּ/כְבוֹדִ/י֙ לְ/אַחֵ֣ר לֹֽא אֶתֵּ֔ן וּ/תְהִלָּתִ֖/י לַ/פְּסִילִֽים
Behold, the former things are come to passe, and new things doe I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

הָ/רִֽאשֹׁנ֖וֹת הִנֵּה בָ֑אוּ וַֽ/חֲדָשׁוֹת֙ אֲנִ֣י מַגִּ֔יד בְּ/טֶ֥רֶם תִּצְמַ֖חְנָה אַשְׁמִ֥יע אֶתְ/כֶֽם
Sing vnto the LORD a newe song, and his praise from the end of the earth: yee that goe downe to the sea, and all that is therein; the yles, and the inhabitants thereof.

שִׁ֤ירוּ לַֽ/יהוָה֙ שִׁ֣יר חָדָ֔שׁ תְּהִלָּת֖/וֹ מִ/קְצֵ֣ה הָ/אָ֑רֶץ יוֹרְדֵ֤י הַ/יָּם֙ וּ/מְלֹא֔/וֹ אִיִּ֖ים וְ/יֹשְׁבֵי/הֶֽם
Let the wildernes and the cities thereof lift vp their voyce, the villages that Kedar doeth inhabite: let the inhabitants of the rocke sing, let them shoute from the top of the mountaines.

יִשְׂא֤וּ מִדְבָּר֙ וְ/עָרָ֔י/ו חֲצֵרִ֖ים תֵּשֵׁ֣ב קֵדָ֑ר יָרֹ֨נּוּ֙ יֹ֣שְׁבֵי סֶ֔לַע מֵ/רֹ֥אשׁ הָרִ֖ים יִצְוָֽחוּ
Let them giue glory vnto the LORD, and declare his praise in the Ilands.

יָשִׂ֥ימוּ לַֽ/יהוָ֖ה כָּב֑וֹד וּ/תְהִלָּת֖/וֹ בָּ/אִיִּ֥ים יַגִּֽידוּ
The LORD shall goe foorth as a mighty man, he shall stirre vp iealousie like a man of warre: he shall cry, yea roare; hee shall preuaile against his enemies.
GenevaThe Lord shall go forth as a gyant: he shall stirre vp his courage like a man of warre: he shall shout and crie, and shall preuaile against his enemies.
יְהוָה֙ כַּ/גִּבּ֣וֹר יֵצֵ֔א כְּ/אִ֥ישׁ מִלְחָמ֖וֹת יָעִ֣יר קִנְאָ֑ה יָרִ֨יעַ֙ אַף יַצְרִ֔יחַ עַל אֹיְבָ֖י/ו יִתְגַּבָּֽר
I haue long time holden my peace, I haue bene still and refrained my selfe: now wil I cry like a trauailing woman, I will destroy and deuoure at once.

הֶחֱשֵׁ֨יתִי֙ מֵֽ/עוֹלָ֔ם אַחֲרִ֖ישׁ אֶתְאַפָּ֑ק כַּ/יּוֹלֵדָ֣ה אֶפְעֶ֔ה אֶשֹּׁ֥ם וְ/אֶשְׁאַ֖ף יָֽחַד
I will make waste mountaines and hilles, and dry vp all their herbes, and I will make the riuers Ilands, and I will dry vp the pooles.

אַחֲרִ֤יב הָרִים֙ וּ/גְבָע֔וֹת וְ/כָל עֶשְׂבָּ֖/ם אוֹבִ֑ישׁ וְ/שַׂמְתִּ֤י נְהָרוֹת֙ לָֽ/אִיִּ֔ים וַ/אֲגַמִּ֖ים אוֹבִֽישׁ
And I will bring the blinde by a way that they knew not, I will lead them in pathes that they haue not knowen: I wil make darkenesse light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I doe vnto them, and not forsake them.

וְ/הוֹלַכְתִּ֣י עִוְרִ֗ים בְּ/דֶ֨רֶךְ֙ לֹ֣א יָדָ֔עוּ בִּ/נְתִיב֥וֹת לֹֽא יָדְע֖וּ אַדְרִיכֵ֑/ם אָשִׂים֩ מַחְשָׁ֨ךְ לִ/פְנֵי/הֶ֜ם לָ/א֗וֹר וּ/מַֽעֲקַשִּׁים֙ לְ/מִישׁ֔וֹר אֵ֚לֶּה הַ/דְּבָרִ֔ים עֲשִׂיתִ֖/ם וְ/לֹ֥א עֲזַבְתִּֽי/ם
¶ They shall be turned backe, they shalbe greatly ashamed, that trust in grauen images, that say to the moulten images; Ye are our gods.

נָסֹ֤גוּ אָחוֹר֙ יֵבֹ֣שׁוּ בֹ֔שֶׁת הַ/בֹּטְחִ֖ים בַּ/פָּ֑סֶל הָ/אֹמְרִ֥ים לְ/מַסֵּכָ֖ה אַתֶּ֥ם אֱלֹהֵֽי/נוּ
Heare ye deafe, and looke ye blinde that ye may see.
GenevaHeare, ye deafe: and ye blinde, regarde, that ye may see.
הַ/חֵרְשִׁ֖ים שְׁמָ֑עוּ וְ/הַ/עִוְרִ֖ים הַבִּ֥יטוּ לִ/רְאֽוֹת
Who is blinde, but my seruant? or deafe, as my messenger that I sent? who is blinde as he that is perfit, and blinde as the LORDs seruant?

מִ֤י עִוֵּר֙ כִּ֣י אִם עַבְדִּ֔/י וְ/חֵרֵ֖שׁ כְּ/מַלְאָכִ֣/י אֶשְׁלָ֑ח מִ֤י עִוֵּר֙ כִּ/מְשֻׁלָּ֔ם וְ/עִוֵּ֖ר כְּ/עֶ֥בֶד יְהוָֽה
Seeing many things, but thou obseruest not: opening the eares, but he heareth not.

ראית רַבּ֖וֹת וְ/לֹ֣א תִשְׁמֹ֑ר פָּק֥וֹחַ אָזְנַ֖יִם וְ/לֹ֥א יִשְׁמָֽע
The LORD is well pleased for his righteousnes sake, he will magnifie the Law, and make it honourable.
GenevaThe Lord is willing for his righteousnesse sake that he may magnifie the Lawe, and exalt it.
יְהוָ֥ה חָפֵ֖ץ לְמַ֣עַן צִדְק֑/וֹ יַגְדִּ֥יל תּוֹרָ֖ה וְ/יַאְדִּֽיר
But this is a people robbed and spoiled, they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a praye, & none deliuereth; for a spoile, and none saith, Restore.
GenevaBut this people is robbed and spoiled, and shalbe all snared in dungeons, and they shalbe hid in prison houses: they shall be for a pray, and none shall deliuer: a spoile, and none shall say, Restore.
וְ/הוּא֮ עַם בָּז֣וּז וְ/שָׁסוּי֒ הָפֵ֤חַ בַּֽ/חוּרִים֙ כֻּלָּ֔/ם וּ/בְ/בָתֵּ֥י כְלָאִ֖ים הָחְבָּ֑אוּ הָי֤וּ לָ/בַז֙ וְ/אֵ֣ין מַצִּ֔יל מְשִׁסָּ֖ה וְ/אֵין אֹמֵ֥ר הָשַֽׁב
Who among you will giue eare to this? who will hearken, and heare for the time to come?
GenevaWho among you shall hearken to this, and take heede, and heare for afterwardes?
מִ֥י בָ/כֶ֖ם יַאֲזִ֣ין זֹ֑את יַקְשִׁ֥ב וְ/יִשְׁמַ֖ע לְ/אָחֽוֹר
Who gaue Iacob for a spoile, and Israel to the robbers? Did not the LORD, hee, against whom wee haue sinned? For they would not walke in his wayes, neither were they obedient vnto his Law.

מִֽי נָתַ֨ן ל/משוסה יַעֲקֹ֛ב וְ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל לְ/בֹזְזִ֖ים הֲ/ל֣וֹא יְהוָ֑ה ז֚וּ חָטָ֣אנוּ ל֔/וֹ וְ/לֹֽא אָב֤וּ בִ/דְרָכָי/ו֙ הָל֔וֹךְ וְ/לֹ֥א שָׁמְע֖וּ בְּ/תוֹרָתֽ/וֹ
Therefore he hath powred vpon him the furie of his anger, and the strength of battell: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet hee knew not; and it burned him, yet hee layed it not to heart.

וַ/יִּשְׁפֹּ֤ךְ עָלָי/ו֙ חֵמָ֣ה אַפּ֔/וֹ וֶ/עֱז֖וּז מִלְחָמָ֑ה וַ/תְּלַהֲטֵ֤/הוּ מִ/סָּבִיב֙ וְ/לֹ֣א יָדָ֔ע וַ/תִּבְעַר בּ֖/וֹ וְ/לֹא יָשִׂ֥ים עַל לֵֽב
