Chapter 30
Isaiah 30
Woe to the rebellious children, sayth the LORD, that take counsell, but not of mee; and that couer with a couering, but not of my Spirit, that they may adde sinne to sinne:

ה֣וֹי בָּנִ֤ים סֽוֹרְרִים֙ נְאֻם יְהוָ֔ה לַ/עֲשׂ֤וֹת עֵצָה֙ וְ/לֹ֣א מִ/נִּ֔י וְ/לִ/נְסֹ֥ךְ מַסֵּכָ֖ה וְ/לֹ֣א רוּחִ֑/י לְמַ֛עַן סְפ֥וֹת חַטָּ֖את עַל חַטָּֽאת
That walke to goe downe into Egypt, (and haue not asked at my mouth) to strengthen themselues in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt.

הַ/הֹלְכִים֙ לָ/רֶ֣דֶת מִצְרַ֔יִם וּ/פִ֖/י לֹ֣א שָׁאָ֑לוּ לָ/עוֹז֙ בְּ/מָע֣וֹז פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְ/לַ/חְס֖וֹת בְּ/צֵ֥ל מִצְרָֽיִם
Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt, your confusion.
GenevaBut the strength of Pharaoh shalbe your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.
וְ/הָיָ֥ה לָ/כֶ֛ם מָע֥וֹז פַּרְעֹ֖ה לְ/בֹ֑שֶׁת וְ/הֶ/חָס֥וּת בְּ/צֵל מִצְרַ֖יִם לִ/כְלִמָּֽה
For his princes were at Zoan, and his ambassadors came to Hanes.
GenevaFor his princes were at Zoan, and his Ambassadours came vnto Hanes.
כִּֽי הָי֥וּ בְ/צֹ֖עַן שָׂרָ֑י/ו וּ/מַלְאָכָ֖י/ו חָנֵ֥ס יַגִּֽיעוּ
They were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be an helpe nor profite, but a shame and also a reproch.
GenevaThey shalbe all ashamed of the people that cannot profite them, nor helpe nor doe them good, but shalbe a shame and also a reproche.
כֹּ֣ל הבאיש עַל עַ֖ם לֹא יוֹעִ֣ילוּ לָ֑/מוֹ לֹ֤א לְ/עֵ֨זֶר֙ וְ/לֹ֣א לְ/הוֹעִ֔יל כִּ֥י לְ/בֹ֖שֶׁת וְ/גַם לְ/חֶרְפָּֽה
The burden of the beastes of the South: into the lande of trouble and anguish, from whence come the yong and old lyon, the viper, and fierie flying serpent, they will carie their riches vpon the shoulders of yong asses, and their treasures vpon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profite them.

מַשָּׂ֖א בַּהֲמ֣וֹת נֶ֑גֶב בְּ/אֶרֶץ֩ צָרָ֨ה וְ/צוּקָ֜ה לָבִ֧יא וָ/לַ֣יִשׁ מֵ/הֶ֗ם אֶפְעֶה֙ וְ/שָׂרָ֣ף מְעוֹפֵ֔ף יִשְׂאוּ֩ עַל כֶּ֨תֶף עֲיָרִ֜ים חֵֽילֵ/הֶ֗ם וְ/עַל דַּבֶּ֤שֶׁת גְּמַלִּים֙ אֽוֹצְרֹתָ֔/ם עַל עַ֖ם לֹ֥א יוֹעִֽילוּ
For the Egyptians shall helpe in vaine, and to no purpose: Therefore haue I cried concerning this: Their strength is to sit still.
GenevaFor the Egyptians are vanitie, and they shall helpe in vaine. Therefore haue I cried vnto her, Their strength is to sit still.
וּ/מִצְרַ֕יִם הֶ֥בֶל וָ/רִ֖יק יַעְזֹ֑רוּ לָ/כֵן֙ קָרָ֣אתִי לָ/זֹ֔את רַ֥הַב הֵ֖ם שָֽׁבֶת
¶ Now goe, write it before them in a table, and note it in a booke, that it may bee for the time to come for euer and euer:

עַתָּ֗ה בּ֣וֹא כָתְבָ֥/הּ עַל ל֛וּחַ אִתָּ֖/ם וְ/עַל סֵ֣פֶר חֻקָּ֑/הּ וּ/תְהִי֙ לְ/י֣וֹם אַחֲר֔וֹן לָ/עַ֖ד עַד עוֹלָֽם
That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not heare the Law of the LORD:
GenevaThat it is a rebellious people, lying children, and children that would not heare the law of the Lord.
כִּ֣י עַ֤ם מְרִי֙ ה֔וּא בָּנִ֖ים כֶּחָשִׁ֑ים בָּנִ֕ים לֹֽא אָב֥וּ שְׁמ֖וֹעַ תּוֹרַ֥ת יְהוָֽה
Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophecie not vnto vs right things: speake vnto vs smooth things, prophecie deceits.
GenevaWhich say vnto the Seers, See not: and to the Prophets, Prophecie not vnto vs right things: but speake flattering things vnto vs: prophecie errours.
אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמְר֤וּ לָֽ/רֹאִים֙ לֹ֣א תִרְא֔וּ וְ/לַ֣/חֹזִ֔ים לֹ֥א תֶחֱזוּ לָ֖/נוּ נְכֹח֑וֹת דַּבְּרוּ לָ֣/נוּ חֲלָק֔וֹת חֲז֖וּ מַהֲתַלּֽוֹת
Get ye out of the way: turne aside out of the path: cause the Holy one of Israel to cease from before vs.

ס֚וּרוּ מִנֵּי דֶ֔רֶךְ הַטּ֖וּ מִנֵּי אֹ֑רַח הַשְׁבִּ֥יתוּ מִ/פָּנֵ֖י/נוּ אֶת קְד֥וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
Wherefore, thus saith the Holy one of Israel: Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and peruersnesse, and stay thereon:
GenevaTherefoe thus saith the holy one of Israel, Because you haue cast off this worde, and trust in violence, and wickednes, and stay thereupon,
לָ/כֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ קְד֣וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל יַ֥עַן מָֽאָסְ/כֶ֖ם בַּ/דָּבָ֣ר הַ/זֶּ֑ה וַֽ/תִּבְטְחוּ֙ בְּ/עֹ֣שֶׁק וְ/נָל֔וֹז וַ/תִּֽשָּׁעֲנ֖וּ עָלָֽי/ו
Therefore this iniquitie shalbe to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking commeth suddenly at an instant.
GenevaTherefore this iniquitie shalbe vnto you as a breach that falleth, or a swelling in an hie wall, whose breaking commeth suddenly in a moment.
לָ/כֵ֗ן יִֽהְיֶ֤ה לָ/כֶם֙ הֶ/עָוֺ֣ן הַ/זֶּ֔ה כְּ/פֶ֣רֶץ נֹפֵ֔ל נִבְעֶ֖ה בְּ/חוֹמָ֣ה נִשְׂגָּבָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר פִּתְאֹ֥ם לְ/פֶ֖תַע יָב֥וֹא שִׁבְרָֽ/הּ
And he shall breake it as the breaking of the potters vessell, that is broken in pieces, he shall not spare; so that there shall not be found in the bursting of it, a sheard to take fire from the hearth, or to take water withall out of the pit.
GenevaAnd the breaking thereof is like the breaking of a potters pot, which is broken without pitie, and in the breaking thereof is not found a sheard to take fire out of the hearth, or to take water out of the pit.
וּ֠/שְׁבָרָ/הּ כְּ/שֵׁ֨בֶר נֵ֧בֶל יוֹצְרִ֛ים כָּת֖וּת לֹ֣א יַחְמֹ֑ל וְ/לֹֽא יִמָּצֵ֤א בִ/מְכִתָּת/וֹ֙ חֶ֔רֶשׂ לַ/חְתּ֥וֹת אֵשׁ֙ מִ/יָּק֔וּד וְ/לַ/חְשֹׂ֥ף מַ֖יִם מִ/גֶּֽבֶא
For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy one of Israel, In returning and rest shall ye be saued, in quietnesse and in confidence shalbe your strength, and ye would not:
GenevaFor thus sayd the Lord God, the Holy one of Israel, In rest and quietnes shall ye be saued: in quietnes and in confidence shall be your strength, but ye would not.
כִּ֣י כֹֽה אָמַר֩ אֲדֹנָ֨/י יְהוִ֜ה קְד֣וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל בְּ/שׁוּבָ֤ה וָ/נַ֨חַת֙ תִּוָּ֣שֵׁע֔וּ/ן בְּ/הַשְׁקֵט֙ וּ/בְ/בִטְחָ֔ה תִּהְיֶ֖ה גְּבֽוּרַתְ/כֶ֑ם וְ/לֹ֖א אֲבִיתֶֽם
But ye said; No, for we will flee vpon horses; therefore shall ye flee. And we will ride vpon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you, be swift.
GenevaFor ye haue sayd, No, but we wil flee away vpon horses. Therefore shall ye flee. We will ride vpon the swiftest. Therefore shall your persecuters be swifter.
וַ/תֹּ֨אמְר֥וּ לֹא כִ֛י עַל ס֥וּס נָנ֖וּס עַל כֵּ֣ן תְּנוּס֑וּ/ן וְ/עַל קַ֣ל נִרְכָּ֔ב עַל כֵּ֖ן יִקַּ֥לּוּ רֹדְפֵי/כֶֽם
One thousand shall flee at the rebuke of one: at the rebuke of fiue, shall ye flee, till ye be left as a beacon vpon the top of a mountaine, and as an ensigne on a hill.
GenevaA thousand as one shall flee at the rebuke of one: at the rebuke of fiue shall ye flee, till ye be left as a ship maste vpon the top of a mountaine, and as a beaken vpon an hill.
אֶ֣לֶף אֶחָ֗ד מִ/פְּנֵי֙ גַּעֲרַ֣ת אֶחָ֔ד מִ/פְּנֵ֛י גַּעֲרַ֥ת חֲמִשָּׁ֖ה תָּנֻ֑סוּ עַ֣ד אִם נוֹתַרְתֶּ֗ם כַּ/תֹּ֨רֶן֙ עַל רֹ֣אשׁ הָ/הָ֔ר וְ/כַ/נֵּ֖ס עַל הַ/גִּבְעָֽה
¶ And therefore wil the LORD wait that he may be gracious vnto you, and therefore wil he be exalted that he may haue mercy vpon you: for the LORD is a God of Iudgment. Blessed are all they that wait for him.
GenevaYet therefore will the Lord waite, that he may haue mercy vpon you, and therefore wil he be exalted, that hee may haue compassion vpon you: for the Lord is the God of iudgement. Blessed are all they that waite for him.
וְ/לָ/כֵ֞ן יְחַכֶּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לַֽ/חֲנַנְ/כֶ֔ם וְ/לָ/כֵ֥ן יָר֖וּם לְ/רַֽחֶמְ/כֶ֑ם כִּֽי אֱלֹהֵ֤י מִשְׁפָּט֙ יְהוָ֔ה אַשְׁרֵ֖י כָּל ח֥וֹכֵי לֽ/וֹ
For the people shall dwel in Zion at Ierusalem: thou shalt weepe no more: hee will be very gracious vnto thee, at the voice of thy cry; when he shall heare it, he will answere thee.
GenevaSurely a people shall dwell in Zion, and in Ierusalem: thou shalt weepe no more: he wil certainly haue mercy vpon thee at the voyce of thy crye: when he heareth thee, he wil answere thee.
כִּי עַ֛ם בְּ/צִיּ֥וֹן יֵשֵׁ֖ב בִּ/ירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם בָּכ֣וֹ לֹֽא תִבְכֶּ֗ה חָנ֤וֹן יָחְנְ/ךָ֙ לְ/ק֣וֹל זַעֲקֶ֔/ךָ כְּ/שָׁמְעָת֖/וֹ עָנָֽ/ךְ
And though the Lord giue you the bread of aduersitie, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be remooued into a corner any more: but thine eyes shall see thy teachers.
GenevaAnd when the Lord hath giuen you the bread of aduersitie, and the water of affliction, thy raine shalbe no more kept backe, but thine eyes shall see thy raine.
וְ/נָתַ֨ן לָ/כֶ֧ם אֲדֹנָ֛/י לֶ֥חֶם צָ֖ר וּ/מַ֣יִם לָ֑חַץ וְ/לֹֽא יִכָּנֵ֥ף עוֹד֙ מוֹרֶ֔י/ךָ וְ/הָי֥וּ עֵינֶ֖י/ךָ רֹא֥וֹת אֶת מוֹרֶֽי/ךָ
And thine eares shall heare a word behinde thee, saying; This is the way, walke ye in it, when ye turne to the right hand, and when ye turne to the left.
GenevaAnd thine eares shall heare a worde behind thee, saying, This is the way, walke ye in it, when thou turnest to the right hand, and when thou turnest to the left.
וְ/אָזְנֶ֨י/ךָ֙ תִּשְׁמַ֣עְנָה דָבָ֔ר מֵֽ/אַחֲרֶ֖י/ךָ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר זֶ֤ה הַ/דֶּ֨רֶךְ֙ לְכ֣וּ ב֔/וֹ כִּ֥י תַאֲמִ֖ינוּ וְ/כִ֥י תַשְׂמְאִֽילוּ
Ye shall defile also the couering of thy grauen images of siluer, and the ornament of thy moulten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as a menstruous cloth, thou shalt say vnto it; Get thee hence.
GenevaAnd ye shall pollute the couering of the images of siluer, and the riche ornament of thine images of golde, and cast them away as a menstruous cloth, and thou shalt say vnto it, Get thee hence.
וְ/טִמֵּאתֶ֗ם אֶת צִפּוּי֙ פְּסִילֵ֣י כַסְפֶּ֔/ךָ וְ/אֶת אֲפֻדַּ֖ת מַסֵּכַ֣ת זְהָבֶ֑/ךָ תִּזְרֵ/ם֙ כְּמ֣וֹ דָוָ֔ה צֵ֖א תֹּ֥אמַר לֽ/וֹ
Then shall he giue the raine of thy seed that thou shalt sow the ground withall; and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shalbe fat and plenteous: in that day shall thy cattell feed in large pastures.
GenevaThen shall hee giue raine vnto thy seede, when thou shalt sowe the ground, and bread of the increase of the earth, and it shalbe fat and as oyle: in that day shall thy cattell be fed in large pastures.
וְ/נָתַן֩ מְטַ֨ר זַרְעֲ/ךָ֜ אֲשֶׁר תִּזְרַ֣ע אֶת הָ/אֲדָמָ֗ה וְ/לֶ֨חֶם֙ תְּבוּאַ֣ת הָֽ/אֲדָמָ֔ה וְ/הָיָ֥ה דָשֵׁ֖ן וְ/שָׁמֵ֑ן יִרְעֶ֥ה מִקְנֶ֛י/ךָ בַּ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/ה֖וּא כַּ֥ר נִרְחָֽב
The oxen likewise and the yong asses that eare the ground, shall eate cleane prouender which hath bene winnowed with the shouell and with the fanne.
GenevaThe oxen also and the yong asses, that till the ground, shall eate cleane prouender, which is winowed with the shoouel and with the fanne.
וְ/הָ/אֲלָפִ֣ים וְ/הָ/עֲיָרִ֗ים עֹֽבְדֵי֙ הָֽ/אֲדָמָ֔ה בְּלִ֥יל חָמִ֖יץ יֹאכֵ֑לוּ אֲשֶׁר זֹרֶ֥ה בָ/רַ֖חַת וּ/בַ/מִּזְרֶֽה
And there shall be vpon euery high mountaine, and vpon euery high hill, riuers and streames of waters, in the day of the great slaughter when the towers fall.

וְ/הָיָ֣ה עַל כָּל הַ֣ר גָּבֹ֗הַ וְ/עַל֙ כָּל גִּבְעָ֣ה נִשָּׂאָ֔ה פְּלָגִ֖ים יִבְלֵי מָ֑יִם בְּ/יוֹם֙ הֶ֣רֶג רָ֔ב בִּ/נְפֹ֖ל מִגְדָּלִֽים
Moreouer the light of the Moone shalbe as the light of the Sunne, and the light of the Sunne shall be seuenfold, as the light of seuen dayes, in the day that the LORD bindeth vp the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.
GenevaMoreouer, the light of the moone shall be as the light of the sunne, and the light of the sunne shalbe seuen folde, and like the light of seuen dayes in the day that the Lord shall binde vp the breach of his people, and heale the stroke of their wound.
וְ/הָיָ֤ה אֽוֹר הַ/לְּבָנָה֙ כְּ/א֣וֹר הַֽ/חַמָּ֔ה וְ/א֤וֹר הַֽ/חַמָּה֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה שִׁבְעָתַ֔יִם כְּ/א֖וֹר שִׁבְעַ֣ת הַ/יָּמִ֑ים בְּ/י֗וֹם חֲבֹ֤שׁ יְהוָה֙ אֶת שֶׁ֣בֶר עַמּ֔/וֹ וּ/מַ֥חַץ מַכָּת֖/וֹ יִרְפָּֽא
¶ Beholde, the Name of the LORD commeth from farre, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heauy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a deuouring fire.

הִנֵּ֤ה שֵׁם יְהוָה֙ בָּ֣א מִ/מֶּרְחָ֔ק בֹּעֵ֣ר אַפּ֔/וֹ וְ/כֹ֖בֶד מַשָּׂאָ֑ה שְׂפָתָי/ו֙ מָ֣לְאוּ זַ֔עַם וּ/לְשׁוֹנ֖/וֹ כְּ/אֵ֥שׁ אֹכָֽלֶת
And his breath as an ouerflowing streame, shall reach to the midst of the necke, to sift the nations with the sieue of vanitie: and there shalbe a bridle in the iawes of the people causing them to erre.
GenevaAnd his spirit is as a riuer that ouerfloweth vp to the necke: it deuideth asunder, to fanne the nations with the fanne of vanitie, and there shall be a bridle to cause them to erre in the chawes of the people.
וְ/רוּח֞/וֹ כְּ/נַ֤חַל שׁוֹטֵף֙ עַד צַוָּ֣אר יֶֽחֱצֶ֔ה לַ/הֲנָפָ֥ה גוֹיִ֖ם בְּ/נָ֣פַת שָׁ֑וְא וְ/רֶ֣סֶן מַתְעֶ֔ה עַ֖ל לְחָיֵ֥י עַמִּֽים
Yee shall haue a song as in the night, when a holy solemnitie is kept, and gladnesse of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come into the mountaine of the LORD, to the mighty one of Israel.
GenevaBut there shall be a song vnto you as in the night, when solemne feast is kept: and gladnes of heart, as he that commeth with a pipe to goe vnto the mount of the Lord, to the mightie one of Israel.
הַ/שִּׁיר֙ יִֽהְיֶ֣ה לָ/כֶ֔ם כְּ/לֵ֖יל הִתְקַדֶּשׁ חָ֑ג וְ/שִׂמְחַ֣ת לֵבָ֗ב כַּֽ/הוֹלֵךְ֙ בֶּֽ/חָלִ֔יל לָ/ב֥וֹא בְ/הַר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל צ֥וּר יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall shew the lighting downe of his arme, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a deuouring fire, with scattering and tempest and hailestones.
GenevaAnd the Lord shall cause his glorious voyce to be heard, and shall declare the lighting downe of his arme with the anger of his countenance, and flame of a deuouring fire, with scattering and tempest, and hailestones.
וְ/הִשְׁמִ֨יעַ יְהוָ֜ה אֶת ה֣וֹד קוֹל֗/וֹ וְ/נַ֤חַת זְרוֹע/וֹ֙ יַרְאֶ֔ה בְּ/זַ֣עַף אַ֔ף וְ/לַ֖הַב אֵ֣שׁ אוֹכֵלָ֑ה נֶ֥פֶץ וָ/זֶ֖רֶם וְ/אֶ֥בֶן בָּרָֽד
For through the voyce of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten downe, which smote with a rod.
GenevaFor with the voyce of the Lord shall Asshur be destroyed, which smote with the rod.
כִּֽי מִ/קּ֥וֹל יְהוָ֖ה יֵחַ֣ת אַשּׁ֑וּר בַּ/שֵּׁ֖בֶט יַכֶּֽה
And in euery place where the grounded staffe shall passe, which the LORD shall lay vpon him, it shall be with tabrets and harpes: and in battels of shaking will he fight with it.
GenevaAnd in euery place that ye staffe shall passe, it shall cleaue fast, which the Lord shall lay vpon him with tabrets and harpes: and with battels, and lifting vp of hands shall he fight against it.
וְ/הָיָ֗ה כֹּ֤ל מַֽעֲבַר֙ מַטֵּ֣ה מֽוּסָדָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָנִ֤יחַ יְהוָה֙ עָלָ֔י/ו בְּ/תֻפִּ֖ים וּ/בְ/כִנֹּר֑וֹת וּ/בְ/מִלְחֲמ֥וֹת תְּנוּפָ֖ה נִלְחַם ב/ה
For Tophet is ordained of olde; yea, for the king it is prepared, he hath made it deepe and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood, the breath of the LORD, like a streame of brimstone, doeth kindle it.

כִּֽי עָר֤וּךְ מֵֽ/אֶתְמוּל֙ תָּפְתֶּ֔ה גַּם הוא לַ/מֶּ֥לֶךְ הוּכָ֖ן הֶעְמִ֣יק הִרְחִ֑ב מְדֻרָתָ֗/הּ אֵ֤שׁ וְ/עֵצִים֙ הַרְבֵּ֔ה נִשְׁמַ֤ת יְהוָה֙ כְּ/נַ֣חַל גָּפְרִ֔ית בֹּעֲרָ֖ה בָּֽ/הּ
