Chapter 3
Hebrews 3
Wherfore holy brethrē, partakers of the heauenly calling, consider the Apostle and high Priest of our profession Christ Iesus,
GenevaTherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heauenly vocation, consider the Apostle and high Priest of our profession Christ Iesus:
Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithfull in all his house.
GenevaWho was faithfull to him that hath appointed him, euen as Moses was in al his house.
For this man was counted worthy of more glory then Moses, in as much as he who hath builded the house, hath more honour then the house.
GenevaFor this man is counted worthy of more glory then Moses, inasmuch as he which hath builded the house, hath more honour then the house.
For euery house is builded by some man, but hee that built all things is God.
GenevaFor euery house is builded of some man, and he that hath built all things, is God.
And Moses verely was faithfull in all his house as a seruant, for a testimonie of those things which were to be spoken after.
GenevaNow Moses verely was faithfull in all his house, as a seruant, for a witnesse of the thinges which should be spoken after.
But Christ as a Sonne ouer his owne house, whose house are wee, if we hold fast the confidence, and the reioycing of the hope firme vnto the end.
GenevaBut Christ is as the Sonne, ouer his owne house, whose house we are, if we holde fast that confidence and that reioycing of that hope vnto the ende.
Wherfore as the holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will heare his voyce,
GenevaWherefore, as the holy Ghost sayth, To day if ye shall heare his voyce,
Harden not your hearts, as in the prouocation, in the day of temptation in the wildernesse:
GenevaHarden not your hearts, as in the prouocation, according to the day of the tentation in the wildernes,
When your fathers tempted me, prooued me, and saw my works fourty yeeres.
GenevaWhere your fathers tempted me, prooued me, and sawe my workes fourtie yeeres long.
Wherefore I was grieued with that generation, and sayd, They doe alway erre in their hearts, and they haue not knowen my wayes.
GenevaWherefore I was grieued with that generation, and sayde, They erre euer in their heart, neither haue they knowen my wayes.
So I sware in my wrath: they shall not enter into my rest.
GenevaTherefore I sware in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest.
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an euill heart of vnbeleefe, in departing from the liuing God.
GenevaTake heede, brethren, least at any time there be in any of you an euill heart, and vnfaithfull, to depart away from the liuing God.
But exhort one another dayly, while it is called To day, least any of you be hardned through the deceitfulnesse of sinne.
GenevaBut exhort one another dayly, while it is called to day, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulnes of sinne.
For wee are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast vnto the end.
GenevaFor we are made partakers of Christ, if we keepe sure vnto the ende that beginning, wherewith we are vpholden,
Whilest it is sayd, To day if yee will heare his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the prouocation.
GenevaSo long as it is sayd, To day if ye heare his voyce, harden not your hearts, as in the prouocation.
For some when they had heard, did prouoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
GenevaFor some when they heard, prouoked him to anger: howbeit, not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
τίνες γὰρ ἀκούσαντες παρεπίκραναν; ἀλλ’ οὐ πάντες οἱ ἐξελθόντες ἐξ Αἰγύπτου διὰ Μωϋσέως;
But with whom was he grieued fourty yeeres? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wildernesse?
GenevaBut with whome was he displeased fourtie yeeres? Was hee not displeased with them that sinned, whose carkeises fell in the wildernes?
τίσιν δὲ προσώχθισεν τεσσεράκοντα ἔτη; οὐχὶ τοῖς ἁμαρτήσασιν, ὧν τὰ κῶλα ἔπεσεν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ;
And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that beleeued not?
GenevaAnd to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but vnto them that obeyed not?
τίσιν δὲ ὤμοσεν μὴ εἰσελεύσεσθαι εἰς τὴν κατάπαυσιν αὐτοῦ εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἀπειθήσασιν;
So we see that they could not enter in, because of vnbeleefe.
GenevaSo we see that they could not enter in, because of vnbeliefe.
