Chapter 18
Genesis 18
And the LORD appeared vnto him, in the plaines of Mamre: and he sate in the tent doore, in the heat of the day.
GenevaAgaine the Lord appeared vnto him in the plaine of Mamre, as he sate in his tent doore about the heate of the day.
וַ/יֵּרָ֤א אֵלָי/ו֙ יְהוָ֔ה בְּ/אֵלֹנֵ֖י מַמְרֵ֑א וְ/ה֛וּא יֹשֵׁ֥ב פֶּֽתַח הָ/אֹ֖הֶל כְּ/חֹ֥ם הַ/יּֽוֹם
And he lift vp his eyes and looked, and loe, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, hee ranne to meete them from the tent doore, and bowed himselfe toward the ground,
GenevaAnd he lift vp his eyes, and looked: and lo, three men stoode by him, and when he sawe them, he ranne to meete them from the tent doore, and bowed himselfe to the grounde.
וַ/יִּשָּׂ֤א עֵינָי/ו֙ וַ/יַּ֔רְא וְ/הִנֵּה֙ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה אֲנָשִׁ֔ים נִצָּבִ֖ים עָלָ֑י/ו וַ/יַּ֗רְא וַ/יָּ֤רָץ לִ/קְרָאתָ/ם֙ מִ/פֶּ֣תַח הָ/אֹ֔הֶל וַ/יִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ אָֽרְצָ/ה
And said, My Lord, If now I haue found fauour in thy sight, passe not away, I pray thee, frō thy seruant:
GenevaAnd he said, Lord, if I haue now founde fauour in thy sight, goe not, I pray thee, from thy seruant.
וַ/יֹּאמַ֑ר אֲדֹנָ֗/י אִם נָ֨א מָצָ֤אתִי חֵן֙ בְּ/עֵינֶ֔י/ךָ אַל נָ֥א תַעֲבֹ֖ר מֵ/עַ֥ל עַבְדֶּֽ/ךָ
Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feete, and rest your selues vnder the tree:
GenevaLet a litle water, I pray you, be brought, and wash your feete, and rest your selues vnder the tree.
יֻקַּֽח נָ֣א מְעַט מַ֔יִם וְ/רַחֲצ֖וּ רַגְלֵי/כֶ֑ם וְ/הִֽשָּׁעֲנ֖וּ תַּ֥חַת הָ/עֵֽץ
And I will fetch a morsell of bread; and comfort ye your hearts, after that you shall passe on: for therefore are you come to your seruant. And they said; So doe, as thou hast said.
GenevaAnd I will bring a morsell of bread, that you may comfort your hearts, afterward ye shall go your wayes: for therefore are ye come to your seruant. And they said, Do euen as thou hast said.
וְ/אֶקְחָ֨ה פַת לֶ֜חֶם וְ/סַעֲד֤וּ לִבְּ/כֶם֙ אַחַ֣ר תַּעֲבֹ֔רוּ כִּֽי עַל כֵּ֥ן עֲבַרְתֶּ֖ם עַֽל עַבְדְּ/כֶ֑ם וַ/יֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ כֵּ֥ן תַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּֽרְתָּ
And Abraham hastened into the tent, vnto Sarah, & said; Make ready quickly three measures of fine meale, knead it, and make cakes vpon the hearth.
GenevaThen Abraham made haste into the tent vnto Sarah, and saide, Make ready at once three measures of fine meale: kneade it, and make cakes vpon the hearth.
וַ/יְמַהֵ֧ר אַבְרָהָ֛ם הָ/אֹ֖הֱלָ/ה אֶל שָׂרָ֑ה וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר מַהֲרִ֞י שְׁלֹ֤שׁ סְאִים֙ קֶ֣מַח סֹ֔לֶת ל֖וּשִׁי וַ/עֲשִׂ֥י עֻגֽוֹת
And Abraham ranne vnto the heard, and fetcht a calfe, tender and good, and gaue it vnto a yong man: and he hasted to dresse it.
GenevaAnd Abraham ranne to the beastes, and tooke a tender and good calfe, and gaue it to the seruant, who hasted to make it ready.
וְ/אֶל הַ/בָּקָ֖ר רָ֣ץ אַבְרָהָ֑ם וַ/יִּקַּ֨ח בֶּן בָּקָ֜ר רַ֤ךְ וָ/טוֹב֙ וַ/יִּתֵּ֣ן אֶל הַ/נַּ֔עַר וַ/יְמַהֵ֖ר לַ/עֲשׂ֥וֹת אֹתֽ/וֹ
And he tooke butter, and milke, and the calfe which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them vnder the tree: and they did eate.
GenevaAnd he tooke butter and milke, and the calfe, which he had prepared, and set before them, and stoode himselfe by them vnder the tree, and they did eate.
וַ/יִּקַּ֨ח חֶמְאָ֜ה וְ/חָלָ֗ב וּ/בֶן הַ/בָּקָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה וַ/יִּתֵּ֖ן לִ/פְנֵי/הֶ֑ם וְ/הֽוּא עֹמֵ֧ד עֲלֵי/הֶ֛ם תַּ֥חַת הָ/עֵ֖ץ וַ/יֹּאכֵֽלוּ
¶ And they said vnto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
GenevaThen they saide to him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he answered, Beholde, she is in the tent.
וַ/יֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵׄלָׄ֔יׄ/וׄ אַיֵּ֖ה שָׂרָ֣ה אִשְׁתֶּ֑/ךָ וַ/יֹּ֖אמֶר הִנֵּ֥ה בָ/אֹֽהֶל
And he said, I will certainly returne vnto thee according to the time of life; and loe, Sarah thy wife shall haue a sonne. And Sarah heard it in the tent doore, which was behind him.
GenevaAnd he saide, I will certainely come againe vnto thee according to ye time of life: and loe, Sarah thy wife shall haue a sonne. and Sarah heard in the tent doore, which was behinde him.
וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר שׁ֣וֹב אָשׁ֤וּב אֵלֶ֨י/ךָ֙ כָּ/עֵ֣ת חַיָּ֔ה וְ/הִנֵּה בֵ֖ן לְ/שָׂרָ֣ה אִשְׁתֶּ֑/ךָ וְ/שָׂרָ֥ה שֹׁמַ֛עַת פֶּ֥תַח הָ/אֹ֖הֶל וְ/ה֥וּא אַחֲרָֽי/ו
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, and well stricken in age: and it ceased to be with Sarah after the maner of women.

וְ/אַבְרָהָ֤ם וְ/שָׂרָה֙ זְקֵנִ֔ים בָּאִ֖ים בַּ/יָּמִ֑ים חָדַל֙ לִ/הְי֣וֹת לְ/שָׂרָ֔ה אֹ֖רַח כַּ/נָּשִֽׁים
Therefore Sarah laughed within her selfe, saying, After I am waxed old, shall I haue pleasure, my lord being old also?
GenevaTherefore Sarah laughed within her selfe, saying, After I am waxed olde, and my lord also, shall I haue lust?
וַ/תִּצְחַ֥ק שָׂרָ֖ה בְּ/קִרְבָּ֣/הּ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר אַחֲרֵ֤י בְלֹתִ/י֙ הָֽיְתָה לִּ֣/י עֶדְנָ֔ה וַֽ/אדֹנִ֖/י זָקֵֽן
And the LORD said vnto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying; Shall I of a surety beare a childe, which am old?
GenevaAnd ye Lord saide vnto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah thus laugh, saying, Shall I certainely beare a childe, which am olde?
וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל אַבְרָהָ֑ם לָ֣/מָּה זֶּה֩ צָחֲקָ֨ה שָׂרָ֜ה לֵ/אמֹ֗ר הַ/אַ֥ף אֻמְנָ֛ם אֵלֵ֖ד וַ/אֲנִ֥י זָקַֽנְתִּי
Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed will I returne vnto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall haue a sonne.
Geneva(Shall any thing be hard to the Lord? at the time appointed will I returne vnto thee, euen according to the time of life, and Sarah shall haue a sonne.)
הֲ/יִפָּלֵ֥א מֵ/יְהוָ֖ה דָּבָ֑ר לַ/מּוֹעֵ֞ד אָשׁ֥וּב אֵלֶ֛י/ךָ כָּ/עֵ֥ת חַיָּ֖ה וּ/לְ/שָׂרָ֥ה בֵֽן
Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not: for she was afraid. And he said, Nay, but thou diddest laugh.
GenevaBut Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not: for she was afraide. And he said, It is not so: for thou laughedst.
וַ/תְּכַחֵ֨שׁ שָׂרָ֧ה לֵ/אמֹ֛ר לֹ֥א צָחַ֖קְתִּי כִּ֣י יָרֵ֑אָה וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר לֹ֖א כִּ֥י צָחָֽקְתְּ
¶ And the men rose vp from thence, and looked toward Sodome: and Abraham went with them, to bring them on the way.
GenevaAfterwarde the men did rise vp from thence and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.
וַ/יָּקֻ֤מוּ מִ/שָּׁם֙ הָֽ/אֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַ/יַּשְׁקִ֖פוּ עַל פְּנֵ֣י סְדֹ֑ם וְ/אַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם הֹלֵ֥ךְ עִמָּ֖/ם לְ/שַׁלְּחָֽ/ם
And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I doe;
GenevaAnd the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I doe,
וַֽ/יהֹוָ֖ה אָמָ֑ר הַֽ/מְכַסֶּ֤ה אֲנִי֙ מֵֽ/אַבְרָהָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר אֲנִ֥י עֹשֶֽׂה
Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
GenevaSeeing that Abraham shalbe in deede a great and a mightie nation, and all the nations of the earth shalbe blessed in him?
וְ/אַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם הָי֧וֹ יִֽהְיֶ֛ה לְ/ג֥וֹי גָּד֖וֹל וְ/עָצ֑וּם וְ/נִ֨בְרְכוּ ב֔/וֹ כֹּ֖ל גּוֹיֵ֥י הָ/אָֽרֶץ
For I know him, that hee will command his children, and his household after him, and they shall keepe the way of the LORD, to doe iustice and iudgement, that the LORD may bring vpon Abraham, that which hee hath spoken of him.
GenevaFor I knowe him that he will commande his sonnes and his houshold after him, that they keepe the way of the Lord, to doe righteousnesse and iudgement, that the Lord may bring vpon Abraham that he hath spoken vnto him.
כִּ֣י יְדַעְתִּ֗י/ו לְמַעַן֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְצַוֶּ֜ה אֶת בָּנָ֤י/ו וְ/אֶת בֵּית/וֹ֙ אַחֲרָ֔י/ו וְ/שָֽׁמְרוּ֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יְהוָ֔ה לַ/עֲשׂ֥וֹת צְדָקָ֖ה וּ/מִשְׁפָּ֑ט לְמַ֗עַן הָבִ֤יא יְהוָה֙ עַל אַבְרָהָ֔ם אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּ֖ר עָלָֽי/ו
And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodome and Gomorrah is great, and because their sinne is very grieuous:
GenevaThen the Lord saide, Because the crie of Sodom and Gomorah is great, and because their sinne is exceeding grieuous,
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה זַעֲקַ֛ת סְדֹ֥ם וַ/עֲמֹרָ֖ה כִּי רָ֑בָּה וְ/חַ֨טָּאתָ֔/ם כִּ֥י כָבְדָ֖ה מְאֹֽד
I will goe downe now, and see whether they haue done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come vnto me: and if not, I will know.
GenevaI will goe downe nowe, and see whether they haue done altogether according to that crie which is come vnto me: and if not, that I may knowe.
אֵֽרֲדָה נָּ֣א וְ/אֶרְאֶ֔ה הַ/כְּ/צַעֲקָתָ֛/הּ הַ/בָּ֥אָה אֵלַ֖/י עָשׂ֣וּ כָּלָ֑ה וְ/אִם לֹ֖א אֵדָֽעָה
And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodome: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.
GenevaAnd the men turned thence and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stoode yet before the Lord.
וַ/יִּפְנ֤וּ מִ/שָּׁם֙ הָֽ/אֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַ/יֵּלְכ֖וּ סְדֹ֑מָ/ה וְ/אַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם עוֹדֶ֥/נּוּ עֹמֵ֖ד לִ/פְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה
¶ And Abraham drew neere, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
GenevaThen Abraham drewe neere, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
וַ/יִּגַּ֥שׁ אַבְרָהָ֖ם וַ/יֹּאמַ֑ר הַ/אַ֣ף תִּסְפֶּ֔ה צַדִּ֖יק עִם רָשָֽׁע
Peraduenture there be fifty righteous within the citie; wilt thou also destroy, and not spare the place for the fiftie righteous, that are therein?
GenevaIf there be fiftie righteous within the citie, wilt thou destroy and not spare the place for the fiftie righteous that are therein?
אוּלַ֥י יֵ֛שׁ חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים צַדִּיקִ֖ם בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הָ/עִ֑יר הַ/אַ֤ף תִּסְפֶּה֙ וְ/לֹא תִשָּׂ֣א לַ/מָּק֔וֹם לְמַ֛עַן חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים הַ/צַּדִּיקִ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ/קִרְבָּֽ/הּ
That be farre from thee, to do after this maner, to slay the righteous with the wicked, and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be farre from thee: Shall not the Iudge of all the earth doe right?
GenevaBe it farre from thee from doing this thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be euen as the wicked, be it farre from thee. shall not the Iudge of all the worlde doe right?
חָלִ֨לָ/ה לְּ/ךָ֜ מֵ/עֲשֹׂ֣ת כַּ/דָּבָ֣ר הַ/זֶּ֗ה לְ/הָמִ֤ית צַדִּיק֙ עִם רָשָׁ֔ע וְ/הָיָ֥ה כַ/צַּדִּ֖יק כָּ/רָשָׁ֑ע חָלִ֣לָ/ה לָּ֔/ךְ הֲ/שֹׁפֵט֙ כָּל הָ/אָ֔רֶץ לֹ֥א יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה מִשְׁפָּֽט
And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fiftie righteous, within the citie, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
GenevaAnd the Lord answered, If I shall finde in Sodom fiftie righteous within the citie, then will I spare all the place for their sakes.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה אִם אֶמְצָ֥א בִ/סְדֹ֛ם חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים צַדִּיקִ֖ם בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הָ/עִ֑יר וְ/נָשָׂ֥אתִי לְ/כָל הַ/מָּק֖וֹם בַּ/עֲבוּרָֽ/ם
And Abraham answered, and said, Behold now, I haue taken vpon me to speake vnto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes.
GenevaThen Abraham answered and said, Behold nowe, I haue begun to speake vnto my Lord, and I am but dust and ashes.
וַ/יַּ֥עַן אַבְרָהָ֖ם וַ/יֹּאמַ֑ר הִנֵּה נָ֤א הוֹאַ֨לְתִּי֙ לְ/דַבֵּ֣ר אֶל אֲדֹנָ֔/י וְ/אָנֹכִ֖י עָפָ֥ר וָ/אֵֽפֶר
Peraduenture there shall lacke fiue of the fiftie righteous: wilt thou destroy all the citie for lacke of fiue? And he said, If I find there fourtie and fiue, I will not destroy it.
GenevaIf there shall lacke fiue of fiftie righteous, wilt thou destroy all the citie for fiue? And he saide, If I finde there fiue and fourtie, I will not destroy it.
א֠וּלַי יַחְסְר֞וּ/ן חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים הַ/צַּדִּיקִם֙ חֲמִשָּׁ֔ה הֲ/תַשְׁחִ֥ית בַּ/חֲמִשָּׁ֖ה אֶת כָּל הָ/עִ֑יר וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אַשְׁחִ֔ית אִם אֶמְצָ֣א שָׁ֔ם אַרְבָּעִ֖ים וַ/חֲמִשָּֽׁה
And hee spake vnto him yet againe, and said, Peraduenture there shall be fourtie found there: and he said, I will not doe it for fourties sake.
GenevaAnd he yet spake to him againe, and saide, What if there shalbe found fourtie there? Then he answered, I will not doe it for fourties sake.
וַ/יֹּ֨סֶף ע֜וֹד לְ/דַבֵּ֤ר אֵלָי/ו֙ וַ/יֹּאמַ֔ר אוּלַ֛י יִמָּצְא֥וּ/ן שָׁ֖ם אַרְבָּעִ֑ים וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֔ה בַּ/עֲב֖וּר הָ/אַרְבָּעִֽים
And he said vnto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speake: Peraduenture there shall thirtie bee found there. And he said, I will not doe it, if I find thirtie there.
GenevaAgaine he said, Let not my Lord nowe be angry, that I speake, What if thirtie be founde there? Then he saide, I will not doe it, if I finde thirtie there.
וַ֠/יֹּאמֶר אַל נָ֞א יִ֤חַר לַֽ/אדֹנָ/י֙ וַ/אֲדַבֵּ֔רָה אוּלַ֛י יִמָּצְא֥וּ/ן שָׁ֖ם שְׁלֹשִׁ֑ים וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֔ה אִם אֶמְצָ֥א שָׁ֖ם שְׁלֹשִֽׁים
And he said, Behold now, I haue taken vpon mee to speake vnto the Lord: Peraduenture there shall bee twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenties sake.
GenevaMoreouer he said, Behold, now I haue begonne to speake vnto my Lord, What if twentie be founde there? And he answered, I will not destroy it for twenties sake.
וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר הִנֵּֽה נָ֤א הוֹאַ֨לְתִּי֙ לְ/דַבֵּ֣ר אֶל אֲדֹנָ֔/י אוּלַ֛י יִמָּצְא֥וּ/ן שָׁ֖ם עֶשְׂרִ֑ים וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אַשְׁחִ֔ית בַּ/עֲב֖וּר הָֽ/עֶשְׂרִֽים
And hee saide, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speake yet but this once: Peraduenture ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for tennes sake.
GenevaThen he saide, Let not my Lord be nowe angrie, and I will speake but this once, What if tenne be found there? And he answered, I will not destroy it for tennes sake.
וַ֠/יֹּאמֶר אַל נָ֞א יִ֤חַר לַֽ/אדֹנָ/י֙ וַ/אֲדַבְּרָ֣ה אַךְ הַ/פַּ֔עַם אוּלַ֛י יִמָּצְא֥וּ/ן שָׁ֖ם עֲשָׂרָ֑ה וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אַשְׁחִ֔ית בַּ/עֲב֖וּר הָ/עֲשָׂרָֽה
And the LORD went his way, assoone as hee had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned vnto his place.
GenevaAnd the Lord went his way when he had left communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned vnto his place.
וַ/יֵּ֣לֶךְ יְהוָ֔ה כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר כִּלָּ֔ה לְ/דַבֵּ֖ר אֶל אַבְרָהָ֑ם וְ/אַבְרָהָ֖ם שָׁ֥ב לִ/מְקֹמֽ/וֹ
