Chapter 8
Deuteronomy 8
All the commaundements which I commaund thee this day, shall yee obserue to doe, that yee may liue, and multiply, and goe in, and possesse the land which the LORD sware vnto your fathers.
GenevaYe shall keepe all the commandements which I command thee this day, for to doe them: that ye may liue, and be multiplied, and goe in, and possesse the land which the Lord sware vnto your fathers.
כָּל הַ/מִּצְוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֧י מְצַוְּ/ךָ֛ הַ/יּ֖וֹם תִּשְׁמְר֣וּ/ן לַ/עֲשׂ֑וֹת לְמַ֨עַן תִּֽחְי֜וּ/ן וּ/רְבִיתֶ֗ם וּ/בָאתֶם֙ וִֽ/ירִשְׁתֶּ֣ם אֶת הָ/אָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּ֥ע יְהוָ֖ה לַ/אֲבֹתֵי/כֶֽם
And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these fourtie yeeres in the wildernesse, to humble thee, and to proue thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keepe his commandements, or no.

וְ/זָכַרְתָּ֣ אֶת כָּל הַ/דֶּ֗רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הֹלִֽיכֲ/ךָ֜ יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛י/ךָ זֶ֛ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה בַּ/מִּדְבָּ֑ר לְמַ֨עַן עַנֹּֽתְ/ךָ֜ לְ/נַסֹּֽתְ/ךָ֗ לָ/דַ֜עַת אֶת אֲשֶׁ֧ר בִּֽ/לְבָבְ/ךָ֛ הֲ/תִשְׁמֹ֥ר מצות/ו אִם לֹֽא
And he humbled thee, and suffred thee to hunger, and fed thee with Manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know: that he might make thee know, that man doth not liue by bread onely, but by euery word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man liue.
GenevaTherefore he humbled thee, and made thee hungry, and fed thee with MAN, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know it, that he might teache thee that man liueth not by bread onely, but by euery worde that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord, doth a man liue.
וַֽ/יְעַנְּ/ךָ֮ וַ/יַּרְעִבֶ/ךָ֒ וַ/יַּֽאֲכִֽלְ/ךָ֤ אֶת הַ/מָּן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא יָדַ֔עְתָּ וְ/לֹ֥א יָדְע֖וּ/ן אֲבֹתֶ֑י/ךָ לְמַ֣עַן הוֹדִֽעֲ/ךָ֗ כִּ֠י לֹ֣א עַל הַ/לֶּ֤חֶם לְ/בַדּ/וֹ֙ יִחְיֶ֣ה הָֽ/אָדָ֔ם כִּ֛י עַל כָּל מוֹצָ֥א פִֽי יְהוָ֖ה יִחְיֶ֥ה הָ/אָדָֽם
Thy raiment waxed not old vpon thee, neither did thy foote swell these fourtie yeeres.

שִׂמְלָ֨תְ/ךָ֜ לֹ֤א בָֽלְתָה֙ מֵֽ/עָלֶ֔י/ךָ וְ/רַגְלְ/ךָ֖ לֹ֣א בָצֵ֑קָה זֶ֖ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָֽה
Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.
GenevaKnowe therefore in thine heart, that as a man nourtereth his sonne, so the Lord thy God nourtereth thee.
וְ/יָדַעְתָּ֖ עִם לְבָבֶ֑/ךָ כִּ֗י כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְיַסֵּ֥ר אִישׁ֙ אֶת בְּנ֔/וֹ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖י/ךָ מְיַסְּרֶֽ/ךָּ
Therefore thou shalt keepe the Commandements of the LORD thy God, to walke in his wayes, and to feare him.

וְ/שָׁ֣מַרְתָּ֔ אֶת מִצְוֺ֖ת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑י/ךָ לָ/לֶ֥כֶת בִּ/דְרָכָ֖י/ו וּ/לְ/יִרְאָ֥ה אֹתֽ/וֹ
For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a lande of brookes of water, of fountaines, and depths that spring out of valleys and hilles,
GenevaFor the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land in the which are riuers of water and fountaines, and depthes that spring out of valleis and mountaines:
כִּ֚י יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔י/ךָ מְבִֽיאֲ/ךָ֖ אֶל אֶ֣רֶץ טוֹבָ֑ה אֶ֚רֶץ נַ֣חֲלֵי מָ֔יִם עֲיָנֹת֙ וּ/תְהֹמֹ֔ת יֹצְאִ֥ים בַּ/בִּקְעָ֖ה וּ/בָ/הָֽר
A land of wheate, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranats, a land of oyle oliue, and hony,

אֶ֤רֶץ חִטָּה֙ וּ/שְׂעֹרָ֔ה וְ/גֶ֥פֶן וּ/תְאֵנָ֖ה וְ/רִמּ֑וֹן אֶֽרֶץ זֵ֥ית שֶׁ֖מֶן וּ/דְבָֽשׁ
A lande wherein thou shalt eate bread without scarcenes, thou shalt not lacke any thing in it: a lande whose stones are yron, and out of whose hils thou mayest digge brasse.
GenevaA land wherein thou shalt eate bread without scarcitie, neither shalt thou lacke any thing therein: a land whose stones are yron, and out of whose mountaines thou shalt digge brasse.
אֶ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹ֤א בְ/מִסְכֵּנֻת֙ תֹּֽאכַל בָּ֣/הּ לֶ֔חֶם לֹֽא תֶחְסַ֥ר כֹּ֖ל בָּ֑/הּ אֶ֚רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֲבָנֶ֣י/הָ בַרְזֶ֔ל וּ/מֵ/הֲרָרֶ֖י/הָ תַּחְצֹ֥ב נְחֹֽשֶׁת
When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt blesse the LORD thy God, for the good lande which hee hath giuen thee.
GenevaAnd when thou hast eaten and filled thy selfe, thou shalt blesse the Lord thy God for the good land, which he hath giuen thee.
וְ/אָכַלְתָּ֖ וְ/שָׂבָ֑עְתָּ וּ/בֵֽרַכְתָּ֙ אֶת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔י/ךָ עַל הָ/אָ֥רֶץ הַ/טֹּבָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָֽתַן לָֽ/ךְ
Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his Commandements, and his Iudgements, and his Statutes which I command thee this day:

הִשָּׁ֣מֶר לְ/ךָ֔ פֶּן תִּשְׁכַּ֖ח אֶת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑י/ךָ לְ/בִלְתִּ֨י שְׁמֹ֤ר מִצְוֺתָי/ו֙ וּ/מִשְׁפָּטָ֣י/ו וְ/חֻקֹּתָ֔י/ו אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּ/ךָ֖ הַ/יּֽוֹם
Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;

פֶּן תֹּאכַ֖ל וְ/שָׂבָ֑עְתָּ וּ/בָתִּ֥ים טוֹבִ֛ים תִּבְנֶ֖ה וְ/יָשָֽׁבְתָּ
And when thy heards and thy flocks multiply, and thy siluer and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied:
GenevaAnd thy beastes, and thy sheepe are increased, and thy siluer and golde is multiplied, and all that thou hast is increased,
וּ/בְקָֽרְ/ךָ֤ וְ/צֹֽאנְ/ךָ֙ יִרְבְּיֻ֔/ן וְ/כֶ֥סֶף וְ/זָהָ֖ב יִרְבֶּה לָּ֑/ךְ וְ/כֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר לְ/ךָ֖ יִרְבֶּֽה
Then thine heart bee lifted vp, and thou forget the LORD thy God (which brought thee foorth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage,

וְ/רָ֖ם לְבָבֶ֑/ךָ וְ/שָֽׁכַחְתָּ֙ אֶת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔י/ךָ הַ/מּוֹצִיאֲ/ךָ֛ מֵ/אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם מִ/בֵּ֥ית עֲבָדִֽים
Who led thee through that great and terrible wildernesse, wherein were fierie serpents, and scorpions, & drought, where there was no water, who brought thee foorth water out of the rocke of flint,

הַ/מּוֹלִ֨יכֲ/ךָ֜ בַּ/מִּדְבָּ֣ר הַ/גָּדֹ֣ל וְ/הַ/נּוֹרָ֗א נָחָ֤שׁ שָׂרָף֙ וְ/עַקְרָ֔ב וְ/צִמָּא֖וֹן אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֵֽין מָ֑יִם הַ/מּוֹצִ֤יא לְ/ךָ֙ מַ֔יִם מִ/צּ֖וּר הַֽ/חַלָּמִֽישׁ
Who fed thee in the wildernesse with Manna, which thy fathers knew not, that hee might humble thee, and that hee might prooue thee, to doe thee good at thy latter end:)

הַ/מַּֽאֲכִ֨לְ/ךָ֥ מָן֙ בַּ/מִּדְבָּ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא יָדְע֖וּ/ן אֲבֹתֶ֑י/ךָ לְמַ֣עַן עַנֹּֽתְ/ךָ֗ וּ/לְמַ֨עַן֙ נַסֹּתֶ֔/ךָ לְ/הֵיטִֽבְ/ךָ֖ בְּ/אַחֲרִיתֶֽ/ךָ
And thou say in thine heart, My power, and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.
GenevaBeware least thou say in thine heart, My power, and the strength of mine owne hand hath prepared me this abundance.
וְ/אָמַרְתָּ֖ בִּ/לְבָבֶ֑/ךָ כֹּחִ/י֙ וְ/עֹ֣צֶם יָדִ֔/י עָ֥שָׂה לִ֖/י אֶת הַ/חַ֥יִל הַ/זֶּֽה
But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giueth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his Couenant, which he sware vnto thy fathers, as it is this day.
GenevaBut remember the Lord thy God: for it is he which giueth thee power to get substance to establish his couenant which he sware vnto thy fathers, as appeareth this day.
וְ/זָֽכַרְתָּ֙ אֶת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔י/ךָ כִּ֣י ה֗וּא הַ/נֹּתֵ֥ן לְ/ךָ֛ כֹּ֖חַ לַ/עֲשׂ֣וֹת חָ֑יִל לְמַ֨עַן הָקִ֧ים אֶת בְּרִית֛/וֹ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּ֥ע לַ/אֲבֹתֶ֖י/ךָ כַּ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/זֶּֽה
And it shalbe, if thou doe at all forget the LORD thy God, and walke after other gods, and serue them, and worship them; I testifie against you this day, that ye shall surely perish.

וְ/הָיָ֗ה אִם שָׁכֹ֤חַ תִּשְׁכַּח֙ אֶת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔י/ךָ וְ/הָֽלַכְתָּ֗ אַחֲרֵי֙ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים וַ/עֲבַדְתָּ֖/ם וְ/הִשְׁתַּחֲוִ֣יתָ לָ/הֶ֑ם הַעִדֹ֤תִי בָ/כֶם֙ הַ/יּ֔וֹם כִּ֥י אָבֹ֖ד תֹּאבֵדֽוּ/ן
As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall yee perish; because ye would not be obedient vnto the voice of the LORD your God.
GenevaAs the nations which the Lord destroyeth before you, so ye shall perish, because ye woulde not be obedient vnto the voyce of the Lord your God.
כַּ/גּוֹיִ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֤ר יְהוָה֙ מַאֲבִ֣יד מִ/פְּנֵי/כֶ֔ם כֵּ֖ן תֹאבֵד֑וּ/ן עֵ֚קֶב לֹ֣א תִשְׁמְע֔וּ/ן בְּ/ק֖וֹל יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵי/כֶֽם
