Chapter 21
Deuteronomy 21
If one bee found slaine in the lande, which the LORD thy God giueth thee to possesse it, lying in the fielde, and it bee not knowen who hath slaine him:
GenevaIf one be founde slaine in the lande, which the Lord thy God giueth thee to possesse it, lying in the field, and it is not knowe who hath slaine him,
כִּי יִמָּצֵ֣א חָלָ֗ל בָּ/אֲדָמָה֙ אֲשֶׁר֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜י/ךָ נֹתֵ֤ן לְ/ךָ֙ לְ/רִשְׁתָּ֔/הּ נֹפֵ֖ל בַּ/שָּׂדֶ֑ה לֹ֥א נוֹדַ֖ע מִ֥י הִכָּֽה/וּ
Then thy Elders and thy Iudges shall come forth, and they shall measure vnto the cities which are round about him that is slaine.
GenevaThen thine Elders and thy Iudges shall come forth, and measure vnto the cities that are round about him that is slayne.
וְ/יָצְא֥וּ זְקֵנֶ֖י/ךָ וְ/שֹׁפְטֶ֑י/ךָ וּ/מָדְדוּ֙ אֶל הֶ֣/עָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר סְבִיבֹ֥ת הֶ/חָלָֽל
And it shall be that the citie which is next vnto the slaine man, euen the Elders of that citie shall take an heifer which hath not bene wrought with, and which hath not drawen in the yoke.
GenevaAud let ye Elders of that citie, which is next vnto the slaine man, take out of the droue an heifer that hath not bene put to labour, nor hath drawen in the yoke.
וְ/הָיָ֣ה הָ/עִ֔יר הַ/קְּרֹבָ֖ה אֶל הֶ/חָלָ֑ל וְ/לָֽקְח֡וּ זִקְנֵי֩ הָ/עִ֨יר הַ/הִ֜וא עֶגְלַ֣ת בָּקָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא עֻבַּד֙ בָּ֔/הּ אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא מָשְׁכָ֖ה בְּ/עֹֽל
And the Elders of that citie shall bring downe the heifer vnto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sowen, and shall strike off the heifers necke there in the valley.
GenevaAnd let the Elders of that citie bring the heifer vnto a stonie valley, which is neyther eared nor sowen, and strike off the heifers necke there in the valley.
וְ/הוֹרִ֡דוּ זִקְנֵי֩ הָ/עִ֨יר הַ/הִ֤וא אֶת הָֽ/עֶגְלָה֙ אֶל נַ֣חַל אֵיתָ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹא יֵעָבֵ֥ד בּ֖/וֹ וְ/לֹ֣א יִזָּרֵ֑עַ וְ/עָֽרְפוּ שָׁ֥ם אֶת הָ/עֶגְלָ֖ה בַּ/נָּֽחַל
And the Priests the sonnes of Leui shall come neere (for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister vnto him, and to blesse in the Name of the LORD: ) and by their worde shall euery controuersie and euery stroke bee tried.
GenevaAlso the Priests the sonnes of Leui (whom the Lord thy God hath chosen to minister, and to blesse in the name of the Lord) shall come forth, and by their word shall all strife and plague be tried.
וְ/נִגְּשׁ֣וּ הַ/כֹּהֲנִים֮ בְּנֵ֣י לֵוִי֒ כִּ֣י בָ֗/ם בָּחַ֞ר יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨י/ךָ֙ לְ/שָׁ֣רְת֔/וֹ וּ/לְ/בָרֵ֖ךְ בְּ/שֵׁ֣ם יְהוָ֑ה וְ/עַל פִּי/הֶ֥ם יִהְיֶ֖ה כָּל רִ֥יב וְ/כָל נָֽגַע
And all the Elders of that city that are next vnto the slaine man, shal wash their hands ouer the heifer that is beheaded in the valley.
GenevaAnd all the Elders of that citie that came neere to the slayne man, shall wash their hands ouer the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:
וְ/כֹ֗ל זִקְנֵי֙ הָ/עִ֣יר הַ/הִ֔וא הַ/קְּרֹבִ֖ים אֶל הֶ/חָלָ֑ל יִרְחֲצוּ֙ אֶת יְדֵי/הֶ֔ם עַל הָ/עֶגְלָ֖ה הָ/עֲרוּפָ֥ה בַ/נָּֽחַל
And they shall answere, and say, Our hands haue not shedde this blood, neither haue our eyes seene it.
GenevaAnd shall testifie, and say, Our handes haue not shed this blood, neither haue our eies seene it.
וְ/עָנ֖וּ וְ/אָמְר֑וּ יָדֵ֗י/נוּ לֹ֤א שפכה אֶת הַ/דָּ֣ם הַ/זֶּ֔ה וְ/עֵינֵ֖י/נוּ לֹ֥א רָאֽוּ
Be merciful, O LORD, vnto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood vnto thy people of Israels charge, and the blood shall be forgiuen them.
GenevaO Lord, be mercifull vnto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay no innocent blood to the charge of thy people Israel, and the blood shalbe forgiuen them.
כַּפֵּר֩ לְ/עַמְּ/ךָ֨ יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל אֲשֶׁר פָּדִ֨יתָ֙ יְהוָ֔ה וְ/אַל תִּתֵּן֙ דָּ֣ם נָקִ֔י בְּ/קֶ֖רֶב עַמְּ/ךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְ/נִכַּפֵּ֥ר לָ/הֶ֖ם הַ/דָּֽם
So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
GenevaSo shalt thou take away the cry of innocet blood from thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the Lord.
וְ/אַתָּ֗ה תְּבַעֵ֛ר הַ/דָּ֥ם הַ/נָּקִ֖י מִ/קִּרְבֶּ֑/ךָ כִּֽי תַעֲשֶׂ֥ה הַ/יָּשָׁ֖ר בְּ/עֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה
¶ When thou goest forth to warre against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath deliuered them into thine hands, & thou hast taken them captiue,
GenevaWhe thou shalt go to warre against thine enemies, and the Lord thy God shall deliuer them into thine hands, and thou shalt take the captiues,
כִּֽי תֵצֵ֥א לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֖ה עַל אֹיְבֶ֑י/ךָ וּ/נְתָנ֞/וֹ יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛י/ךָ בְּ/יָדֶ֖/ךָ וְ/שָׁבִ֥יתָ שִׁבְיֽ/וֹ
And seest among the captiues a beautifull woman, and hast a desire vnto her, that thou wouldest haue her to thy wife:
GenevaAnd shalt see among the captiues a beautifull woman, and hast a desire vnto her, and wouldest take her to thy wife,
וְ/רָאִיתָ֙ בַּ/שִּׁבְיָ֔ה אֵ֖שֶׁת יְפַת תֹּ֑אַר וְ/חָשַׁקְתָּ֣ בָ֔/הּ וְ/לָקַחְתָּ֥ לְ/ךָ֖ לְ/אִשָּֽׁה
Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and shee shall shaue her head, and pare her nailes.
GenevaThen thou shalt bring her home to thine house, and she shall shaue her head, and pare her nayles,
וַ/הֲבֵאתָ֖/הּ אֶל תּ֣וֹךְ בֵּיתֶ֑/ךָ וְ/גִלְּחָה֙ אֶת רֹאשָׁ֔/הּ וְ/עָשְׂתָ֖ה אֶת צִפָּרְנֶֽי/הָ
And shee shall put the raiment of her captiuitie from off her, and shall remaine in thine house, and bewaile her father and her mother a full moneth: and after that, thou shalt go in vnto her and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.
GenevaAnd she shall put off the garment that shee was taken in, and she shall remaine in thine house, and bewaile her father and her mother a moneth long: and after that shalt thou go in vnto her, and marry her, and she shalbe thy wife.
וְ/הֵסִ֩ירָה֩ אֶת שִׂמְלַ֨ת שִׁבְיָ֜/הּ מֵ/עָלֶ֗י/הָ וְ/יָֽשְׁבָה֙ בְּ/בֵיתֶ֔/ךָ וּ/בָֽכְתָ֛ה אֶת אָבִ֥י/הָ וְ/אֶת אִמָּ֖/הּ יֶ֣רַח יָמִ֑ים וְ/אַ֨חַר כֵּ֜ן תָּב֤וֹא אֵלֶ֨י/הָ֙ וּ/בְעַלְתָּ֔/הּ וְ/הָיְתָ֥ה לְ/ךָ֖ לְ/אִשָּֽׁה
And it shall be if thou haue no delight in her, then thou shalt let her goe whither she will, but thou shalt not sell her at al for money, thou shalt not make merchandize of her, because thou hast humbled her.
GenevaAnd if thou haue no fauour vnto her, then thou mayest let her go whither she will, but thou shalt not sell her for money, nor make marchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.
וְ/הָיָ֞ה אִם לֹ֧א חָפַ֣צְתָּ בָּ֗/הּ וְ/שִׁלַּחְתָּ/הּ֙ לְ/נַפְשָׁ֔/הּ וּ/מָכֹ֥ר לֹא תִמְכְּרֶ֖/נָּה בַּ/כָּ֑סֶף לֹא תִתְעַמֵּ֣ר בָּ֔/הּ תַּ֖חַת אֲשֶׁ֥ר עִנִּיתָֽ/הּ
¶ If a man haue two wiues, one beloued and another hated, and they haue borne him children, both the beloned, and the hated: and if the first borne sonne be hers that was hated:
GenevaIf a man haue two wiues, one loued and another hated, and they haue borne him children, both the loued and also the hated: if the first borne be the sonne of the hated,
כִּֽי תִהְיֶ֨יןָ לְ/אִ֜ישׁ שְׁתֵּ֣י נָשִׁ֗ים הָ/אַחַ֤ת אֲהוּבָה֙ וְ/הָ/אַחַ֣ת שְׂנוּאָ֔ה וְ/יָֽלְדוּ ל֣/וֹ בָנִ֔ים הָ/אֲהוּבָ֖ה וְ/הַ/שְּׂנוּאָ֑ה וְ/הָיָ֛ה הַ/בֵּ֥ן הַ/בְּכ֖וֹר לַ/שְּׂנִיאָֽה
Then it shall be, when he maketh his sonnes to inherite that which hee hath, that he may not make the sonne of the beloued, first borne, before the sonne of the hated, which is indeed the first borne:
GenevaThen when the time commeth, that hee appointeth his sonnes to be heires of that which he hath, he may not make the sonne of the beloued first borne before the sonne of the hated, which is the first borne:
וְ/הָיָ֗ה בְּ/יוֹם֙ הַנְחִיל֣/וֹ אֶת בָּנָ֔י/ו אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶ֖ה ל֑/וֹ לֹ֣א יוּכַ֗ל לְ/בַכֵּר֙ אֶת בֶּן הָ֣/אֲהוּבָ֔ה עַל פְּנֵ֥י בֶן הַ/שְּׂנוּאָ֖ה הַ/בְּכֹֽר
But hee shall acknowledge the sonne of the hated for the first borne, by giuing him a double portion of all that hee hath: for hee is the beginning of his strength; the right of the first borne is his.
GenevaBut he shall acknowledge the sonne of the hated for the first borne, and giue him double portion of all that he hath: for hee is the first of his strength, and to him belongeth the right of the first borne.
כִּי֩ אֶת הַ/בְּכֹ֨ר בֶּן הַ/שְּׂנוּאָ֜ה יַכִּ֗יר לָ֤/תֶת ל/וֹ֙ פִּ֣י שְׁנַ֔יִם בְּ/כֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר יִמָּצֵ֖א ל֑/וֹ כִּי הוּא֙ רֵאשִׁ֣ית אֹנ֔/וֹ ל֖/וֹ מִשְׁפַּ֥ט הַ/בְּכֹרָֽה
¶ If a man haue a stubborne and rebellious sonne, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that when they haue chastened him, wil not hearken vnto them:
GenevaIf any man haue a sonne that is stubburne and disobedient, which wil not hearken vnto the voice of his father, nor the voyce of his mother, and they haue chastened him, and he would not obey them,
כִּֽי יִהְיֶ֣ה לְ/אִ֗ישׁ בֵּ֚ן סוֹרֵ֣ר וּ/מוֹרֶ֔ה אֵינֶ֣/נּוּ שֹׁמֵ֔עַ בְּ/ק֥וֹל אָבִ֖י/ו וּ/בְ/ק֣וֹל אִמּ֑/וֹ וְ/יסְּר֣וּ אֹת֔/וֹ וְ/לֹ֥א יִשְׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵי/הֶֽם
Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out vnto the Elders of his citie, and vnto the gate of his place:
GenevaThen shall his father and his mother take him, and bring him out vnto the Elders of his citie, and vnto the gate of the place where he dwelleth,
וְ/תָ֥פְשׂוּ ב֖/וֹ אָבִ֣י/ו וְ/אִמּ֑/וֹ וְ/הוֹצִ֧יאוּ אֹת֛/וֹ אֶל זִקְנֵ֥י עִיר֖/וֹ וְ/אֶל שַׁ֥עַר מְקֹמֽ/וֹ
And they shall say vnto the Elders of his citie, This our sonne is stubborne, and rebellious, hee will not obey our voice: he is a glutton, & a drunkard.
GenevaAnd shall say vnto the Elders of his citie, This our sonne is stubburne and disobedient, and he wil not obey our admonition: he is a riotour, and a drunkard.
וְ/אָמְר֞וּ אֶל זִקְנֵ֣י עִיר֗/וֹ בְּנֵ֤/נוּ זֶה֙ סוֹרֵ֣ר וּ/מֹרֶ֔ה אֵינֶ֥/נּוּ שֹׁמֵ֖עַ בְּ/קֹלֵ֑/נוּ זוֹלֵ֖ל וְ/סֹבֵֽא
And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that hee die: so shalt thou put euill away from among you, and all Israel shall heare, & feare.
GenevaThen all the men of his citie shall stone him with stones vnto death: so thou shalt take away euill from among you, that all Israel may heare it, and feare.
וּ֠/רְגָמֻ/הוּ כָּל אַנְשֵׁ֨י עִיר֤/וֹ בָֽ/אֲבָנִים֙ וָ/מֵ֔ת וּ/בִֽעַרְתָּ֥ הָ/רָ֖ע מִ/קִּרְבֶּ֑/ךָ וְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל יִשְׁמְע֥וּ וְ/יִרָֽאוּ
¶ And if a man haue committed a sinne worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:
GenevaIf a man also haue committed a trespasse worthy of death, and is put to death, and thou hangest him on a tree,
וְ/כִֽי יִהְיֶ֣ה בְ/אִ֗ישׁ חֵ֛טְא מִשְׁפַּט מָ֖וֶת וְ/הוּמָ֑ת וְ/תָלִ֥יתָ אֹת֖/וֹ עַל עֵֽץ
His body shall not remaine all night vpon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day: for he that is hanged, is accursed of God: that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giueth thee for an inheritance.
GenevaHis body shall not remaine all night vpon the tree, but thou shalt bury him the same day: for the curse of God is on him that is hanged. Defile not therfore thy land which the Lord thy God giueth thee to inherite.
לֹא תָלִ֨ין נִבְלָת֜/וֹ עַל הָ/עֵ֗ץ כִּֽי קָב֤וֹר תִּקְבְּרֶ֨/נּוּ֙ בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֔וּא כִּֽי קִלְלַ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים תָּל֑וּי וְ/לֹ֤א תְטַמֵּא֙ אֶת אַדְמָ֣תְ/ךָ֔ אֲשֶׁר֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔י/ךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לְ/ךָ֖ נַחֲלָֽה
