1 Samuel 17
Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battell, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongeth to Iudah, and pitched betweene Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephes-Dammim.

וַ/יַּאַסְפ֨וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֤ים אֶת מַֽחֲנֵי/הֶם֙ לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַ/יֵּאָ֣סְפ֔וּ שֹׂכֹ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר לִ/יהוּדָ֑ה וַֽ/יַּחֲנ֛וּ בֵּין שׂוֹכֹ֥ה וּ/בֵין עֲזֵקָ֖ה בְּ/אֶ֥פֶס דַּמִּֽים
And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battell in aray against the Philistines.
GenevaAnd Saul, and the men of Israel assembled, and pitched in the valley of Elah, and put themselues in battell araie to meete the Philistims.
וְ/שָׁא֤וּל וְ/אִֽישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ נֶאֶסְפ֔וּ וַֽ/יַּחֲנ֖וּ בְּ/עֵ֣מֶק הָאֵלָ֑ה וַ/יַּעַרְכ֥וּ מִלְחָמָ֖ה לִ/קְרַ֥את פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים
And the Philistines stood on a mountaine on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountaine on the other side: and there was a valley betweene them.
GenevaAnd the Philistims stoode on a mountaine on the one side, and Israel stoode on a mountaine on the other side: so a valley was betweene them.
וּ/פְלִשְׁתִּ֞ים עֹמְדִ֤ים אֶל הָ/הָר֙ מִ/זֶּ֔ה וְ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל עֹמְדִ֥ים אֶל הָ/הָ֖ר מִ/זֶּ֑ה וְ/הַ/גַּ֖יְא בֵּינֵי/הֶֽם
¶ And there went out a champion out of the campe of the Philistines, named Goliath of Gath: whose height was sixe cubites and a span.
GenevaThen came a man betweene them both out of the tents of the Philistims, named Goliath of Gath: his height was sixe cubites and an hande breadth,
וַ/יֵּצֵ֤א אִֽישׁ הַ/בֵּנַ֨יִם֙ מִ/מַּחֲנ֣וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים גָּלְיָ֥ת שְׁמ֖/וֹ מִ/גַּ֑ת גָּבְה֕/וֹ שֵׁ֥שׁ אַמּ֖וֹת וָ/זָֽרֶת
And he had an helmet of brasse vpon his head, and he was armed with a coate of male: and the weight of the coat was fiue thousand shekels of brasse.
GenevaAud had an helmet of brasse vpon his head, and a brigandine vpon him: and the weight of his brigandine was fiue thousand shekels of brasse.
וְ/כ֤וֹבַע נְחֹ֨שֶׁת֙ עַל רֹאשׁ֔/וֹ וְ/שִׁרְי֥וֹן קַשְׂקַשִּׂ֖ים ה֣וּא לָב֑וּשׁ וּ/מִשְׁקַל֙ הַ/שִּׁרְי֔וֹן חֲמֵשֶׁת אֲלָפִ֥ים שְׁקָלִ֖ים נְחֹֽשֶֽׁת
And he had greaues of brasse vpon his legs, and a target of brasse betweene his shoulders.
GenevaAnd he had bootes of brasse vpon his legs, and a shield of brasse vpon his shoulders.
וּ/מִצְחַ֥ת נְחֹ֖שֶׁת עַל רַגְלָ֑י/ו וְ/כִיד֥וֹן נְחֹ֖שֶׁת בֵּ֥ין כְּתֵפָֽי/ו
And the staffe of his speare was like a weauers beame, and his speares head weighed sixe hundred shekels of yron: and one bearing a shield, went before him.

ו/חץ חֲנִית֗/וֹ כִּ/מְנוֹר֙ אֹֽרְגִ֔ים וְ/לַהֶ֣בֶת חֲנִית֔/וֹ שֵׁשׁ מֵא֥וֹת שְׁקָלִ֖ים בַּרְזֶ֑ל וְ/נֹשֵׂ֥א הַ/צִּנָּ֖ה הֹלֵ֥ךְ לְ/פָנָֽי/ו
And hee stood and cried vnto the armies of Israel, and said vnto them, Why are yee come out to set your battell in aray? am not I a Philistine, and you seruants to Saul? chuse you a man for you, and let him come downe to me.
GenevaAnd he stoode, and cried against the hoste of Israel, and saide vnto them, Why are yee come to set your battell in aray? am not I a Philistim, and you seruaunts to Saul? chuse you a man for you, and let him come downe to me.
וַֽ/יַּעֲמֹ֗ד וַ/יִּקְרָא֙ אֶל מַעַרְכֹ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָ/הֶ֔ם לָ֥/מָּה תֵצְא֖וּ לַ/עֲרֹ֣ךְ מִלְחָמָ֑ה הֲ/ל֧וֹא אָנֹכִ֣י הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֗י וְ/אַתֶּם֙ עֲבָדִ֣ים לְ/שָׁא֔וּל בְּרוּ לָ/כֶ֥ם אִ֖ישׁ וְ/יֵרֵ֥ד אֵלָֽ/י
If he be able to fight with mee, and to kill me, then will we be your seruants: but if I preuaile against him, and kill him, then shall yee be our seruants, and serue vs.
GenevaIf he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then wil we be your seruants: but if I ouercome him, and kill him, then shall yee be our seruants, and serue vs.
אִם יוּכַ֞ל לְ/הִלָּחֵ֤ם אִתִּ/י֙ וְ/הִכָּ֔/נִי וְ/הָיִ֥ינוּ לָ/כֶ֖ם לַ/עֲבָדִ֑ים וְ/אִם אֲנִ֤י אֽוּכַל ל/וֹ֙ וְ/הִכִּיתִ֔י/ו וִ/הְיִ֤יתֶם לָ֨/נוּ֙ לַ/עֲבָדִ֔ים וַ/עֲבַדְתֶּ֖ם אֹתָֽ/נוּ
And the Philistine said, I defie the armies of Israel this day; giue me a man, that we may fight together.
GenevaAlso the Philistim saide, I defie the hoste of Israel this day: giue mee a man, that we may fight together.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אֲנִ֗י חֵרַ֛פְתִּי אֶת מַעַרְכ֥וֹת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הַ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/זֶּ֑ה תְּנוּ לִ֣/י אִ֔ישׁ וְ/נִֽלָּחֲמָ֖ה יָֽחַד
When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
GenevaWhen Saul and all Israel heard those wordes of the Philistim, they were discouraged, and greatly afraide.
וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֤ע שָׁאוּל֙ וְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת דִּבְרֵ֥י הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הָ/אֵ֑לֶּה וַ/יֵּחַ֥תּוּ וַ/יִּֽרְא֖וּ מְאֹֽד
¶ Now Dauid was the sonne of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Iudah, whose name was Iesse, and hee had eight sonnes: and the man went among men for an old man in the dayes of Saul.
GenevaNowe this Dauid was the sonne of an Ephrathite of Beth-lehem Iudah, named Ishai, which had eight sonnes: and this man was taken for an olde man in the daies of Saul.
וְ/דָוִד֩ בֶּן אִ֨ישׁ אֶפְרָתִ֜י הַ/זֶּ֗ה מִ/בֵּ֥ית לֶ֨חֶם֙ יְהוּדָ֔ה וּ/שְׁמ֣/וֹ יִשַׁ֔י וְ/ל֖/וֹ שְׁמֹנָ֣ה בָנִ֑ים וְ/הָ/אִישׁ֙ בִּ/ימֵ֣י שָׁא֔וּל זָקֵ֖ן בָּ֥א בַ/אֲנָשִֽׁים
And the three eldest sonnes of Iesse went, and followed Saul to the battell: and the names of his three sonnes that went to the battell, were, Eliab the first borne, and next vnto him, Abinadab, and the third, Shammah.

וַ/יֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ שְׁלֹ֤שֶׁת בְּנֵֽי יִשַׁי֙ הַ/גְּדֹלִ֔ים הָלְכ֥וּ אַחֲרֵי שָׁא֖וּל לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְ/שֵׁ֣ם שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת בָּנָ֗י/ו אֲשֶׁ֤ר הָלְכוּ֙ בַּ/מִּלְחָמָ֔ה אֱלִיאָ֣ב הַ/בְּכ֗וֹר וּ/מִשְׁנֵ֨/הוּ֙ אֲבִ֣ינָדָ֔ב וְ/הַ/שְּׁלִשִׁ֖י שַׁמָּֽה
And Dauid was the yongest: and the three eldest followed Saul.

וְ/דָוִ֖ד ה֣וּא הַ/קָּטָ֑ן וּ/שְׁלֹשָׁה֙ הַ/גְּדֹלִ֔ים הָלְכ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י שָׁאֽוּל
But Dauid went, and returned from Saul, to feed his fathers sheepe at Bethlehem.
GenevaDauid also went, but hee returned from Saul to feede his fathers sheepe in Beth-lehem.
וְ/דָוִ֛ד הֹלֵ֥ךְ וָ/שָׁ֖ב מֵ/עַ֣ל שָׁא֑וּל לִ/רְע֛וֹת אֶת צֹ֥אן אָבִ֖י/ו בֵּֽית לָֽחֶם
And the Philistine drewe neere, morning and euening, and presented himselfe forty dayes.
GenevaAnd the Philistim drew neere in the morning, and euening, and continued fourtie daies.
וַ/יִּגַּ֥שׁ הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְ/הַעֲרֵ֑ב וַ/יִּתְיַצֵּ֖ב אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יֽוֹם
And Iesse said vnto Dauid his sonne, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corne, and these ten loaues, and run to the campe to thy brethren.
GenevaAnd Ishai said vnto Dauid his sone, Take nowe for thy brethren an Ephah of this parched corne, and these ten cakes, and runne to the hoste to thy brethren.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר יִשַׁ֜י לְ/דָוִ֣ד בְּנ֗/וֹ קַח נָ֤א לְ/אַחֶ֨י/ךָ֙ אֵיפַ֤ת הַ/קָּלִיא֙ הַ/זֶּ֔ה וַ/עֲשָׂרָ֥ה לֶ֖חֶם הַ/זֶּ֑ה וְ/הָרֵ֥ץ הַֽ/מַּחֲנֶ֖ה לְ/אַחֶֽי/ךָ
And carie these ten cheeses vnto the Captaine of their thousand, and looke how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.

וְ֠/אֵת עֲשֶׂ֜רֶת חֲרִצֵ֤י הֶֽ/חָלָב֙ הָ/אֵ֔לֶּה תָּבִ֖יא לְ/שַׂר הָ/אָ֑לֶף וְ/אֶת אַחֶ֨י/ךָ֙ תִּפְקֹ֣ד לְ/שָׁל֔וֹם וְ/אֶת עֲרֻבָּתָ֖/ם תִּקָּֽח
Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.

וְ/שָׁא֤וּל וְ/הֵ֨מָּה֙ וְ/כָל אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּ/עֵ֖מֶק הָֽאֵלָ֑ה נִלְחָמִ֖ים עִם פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים
¶ And Dauid rose vp earely in the morning, and left the sheepe with a keeper, and tooke, and went, as Iesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battell.

וַ/יַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם דָּוִ֜ד בַּ/בֹּ֗קֶר וַ/יִּטֹּ֤שׁ אֶת הַ/צֹּאן֙ עַל שֹׁמֵ֔ר וַ/יִּשָּׂ֣א וַ/יֵּ֔לֶךְ כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖/הוּ יִשָׁ֑י וַ/יָּבֹא֙ הַ/מַּעְגָּ֔לָ/ה וְ/הַ/חַ֗יִל הַ/יֹּצֵא֙ אֶל הַ/מַּ֣עֲרָכָ֔ה וְ/הֵרֵ֖עוּ בַּ/מִּלְחָמָֽה
For Israel and the Philistines had put the battel in aray, army against armie.
GenevaFor Israel and the Philistims had put themselues in araie, armie against armie.
וַ/תַּעֲרֹ֤ךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וּ/פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים מַעֲרָכָ֖ה לִ/קְרַ֥את מַעֲרָכָֽה
And Dauid left his cariage in the hand of the keeper of the cariage, and ranne into the armie, and came and saluted his brethren.
GenevaAnd Dauid left the things, which hee bare, vnder the handes of the keeper of the cariage, and ranne into the hoste, and came, and asked his brethren howe they did.
וַ/יִּטֹּשׁ֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶת הַ/כֵּלִ֜ים מֵ/עָלָ֗י/ו עַל יַד֙ שׁוֹמֵ֣ר הַ/כֵּלִ֔ים וַ/יָּ֖רָץ הַ/מַּעֲרָכָ֑ה וַ/יָּבֹ֕א וַ/יִּשְׁאַ֥ל לְ/אֶחָ֖י/ו לְ/שָׁלֽוֹם
And as he talked with them, behold, there came vp the champion (the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name) out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and Dauid heard them.
GenevaAnd as hee talked with them, beholde, the man that was betweene the two armies, came vp, (whose name was Goliath ye Philistim of Gath) out of the armie of the Philistims, and spake such woordes, and Dauid heard them.
וְ/ה֣וּא מְדַבֵּ֣ר עִמָּ֗/ם וְ/הִנֵּ֣ה אִ֣ישׁ הַ/בֵּנַ֡יִם עוֹלֶ֞ה גָּלְיָת֩ הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י שְׁמ֤/וֹ מִ/גַּת֙ מ/מערות פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַ/יְדַבֵּ֖ר כַּ/דְּבָרִ֣ים הָ/אֵ֑לֶּה וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֖ע דָּוִֽד
And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
GenevaAnd all the men of Israel, when they sawe the man, ranne away from him, and were sore afraied.
וְ/כֹל֙ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בִּ/רְאוֹתָ֖/ם אֶת הָ/אִ֑ישׁ וַ/יָּנֻ֨סוּ֙ מִ/פָּנָ֔י/ו וַ/יִּֽירְא֖וּ מְאֹֽד
And the men of Israel said, Haue yee seene this man that is come vp? Surely to defie Israel is he come vp: and it shall be that the man who killeth him, the king wil enrich him with great riches, and will giue him his daughter, and make his fathers house free in Israel.
GenevaFor euery man of Israel saide, Sawe yee not this man that commeth vp? euen to reuile Israel is he come vp: and to him that killeth him, wil the king giue great riches, and will giue him his daughter, yea, and make his fathers house free in Israel.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הַ/רְּאִיתֶם֙ הָ/אִ֤ישׁ הָֽ/עֹלֶה֙ הַ/זֶּ֔ה כִּ֛י לְ/חָרֵ֥ף אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עֹלֶ֑ה וְֽ֠/הָיָה הָ/אִ֨ישׁ אֲשֶׁר יַכֶּ֜/נּוּ יַעְשְׁרֶ֥/נּוּ הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ עֹ֣שֶׁר גָּד֗וֹל וְ/אֶת בִּתּ/וֹ֙ יִתֶּן ל֔/וֹ וְ/אֵת֙ בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֔י/ו יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה חָפְשִׁ֖י בְּ/יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
And Dauid spake to the men that stood by him, saying; What shall bee done to the man that killeth this Philistine; and taketh away the reproch from Israel? for who is this vncircumcised Philistine, that he should defie the armies of the liuing God?
GenevaThen Dauid spake to the men that stoode with him, and sayde, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistim, and taketh away the shame from Israel? for who is this vncircumcised Philistim, that he shoulde reuile the hoste of the liuing God?
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗ד אֶֽל הָ/אֲנָשִׁ֞ים הָ/עֹמְדִ֣ים עִמּ/וֹ֮ לֵ/אמֹר֒ מַה יֵּעָשֶׂ֗ה לָ/אִישׁ֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר יַכֶּה֙ אֶת הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֣י הַלָּ֔ז וְ/הֵסִ֥יר חֶרְפָּ֖ה מֵ/עַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּ֣י מִ֗י הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֤י הֶֽ/עָרֵל֙ הַ/זֶּ֔ה כִּ֣י חֵרֵ֔ף מַעַרְכ֖וֹת אֱלֹהִ֥ים חַיִּֽים
And the people answered him after this maner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
GenevaAnd the people answered him after this maner, saying, Thus shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר ל/וֹ֙ הָ/עָ֔ם כַּ/דָּבָ֥ר הַ/זֶּ֖ה לֵ/אמֹ֑ר כֹּ֣ה יֵעָשֶׂ֔ה לָ/אִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַכֶּֽ/נּוּ
¶ And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake vnto the men, and Eliabs anger was kindled against Dauid, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheepe in the wildernesse? I know thy pride, and the naughtinesse of thine heart; for thou art come downe, that thou mightest see the battell.
GenevaAnd Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake vnto the men, and Eliab was verie angrie with Dauid, and sayde, Why camest thou downe hither? and with whome hast thou left those fewe sheepe in the wildernesse? I knowe thy pride and the malice of thine heart, that thou art come downe to see the battell.
וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֤ע אֱלִיאָב֙ אָחִ֣י/ו הַ/גָּד֔וֹל בְּ/דַבְּר֖/וֹ אֶל הָ/אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וַ/יִּֽחַר אַף֩ אֱלִיאָ֨ב בְּ/דָוִ֜ד וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָ/מָּה זֶּ֣ה יָרַ֗דְתָּ וְ/עַל מִ֨י נָטַ֜שְׁתָּ מְעַ֨ט הַ/צֹּ֤אן הָ/הֵ֨נָּה֙ בַּ/מִּדְבָּ֔ר אֲנִ֧י יָדַ֣עְתִּי אֶת זְדֹנְ/ךָ֗ וְ/אֵת֙ רֹ֣עַ לְבָבֶ֔/ךָ כִּ֗י לְמַ֛עַן רְא֥וֹת הַ/מִּלְחָמָ֖ה יָרָֽדְתָּ
And Dauid saide, What haue I now done? Is there not a cause?
GenevaThen Dauid sayde, What haue I nowe done? Is there not a cause?
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד מֶ֥ה עָשִׂ֖יתִי עָ֑תָּה הֲ/ל֖וֹא דָּבָ֥ר הֽוּא
¶ And hee turned from him towards another, and spake after the same maner: and the people answered him againe after the former maner.
GenevaAnd hee departed from him into the presence of another, and spake of the same maner, and the people answered him according to the former woordes.
וַ/יִּסֹּ֤ב מֵֽ/אֶצְל/וֹ֙ אֶל מ֣וּל אַחֵ֔ר וַ/יֹּ֖אמֶר כַּ/דָּבָ֣ר הַ/זֶּ֑ה וַ/יְשִׁבֻ֤/הוּ הָ/עָם֙ דָּבָ֔ר כַּ/דָּבָ֖ר הָ/רִאשֽׁוֹן
And when the words were heard which Dauid spake, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
GenevaAnd they that heard the wordes which Dauid spake, rehearsed them before Saul, which caused him to be brought.
וַ/יְּשָּֽׁמְעוּ֙ הַ/דְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֣ר דָּוִ֑ד וַ/יַּגִּ֥דוּ לִ/פְנֵֽי שָׁא֖וּל וַ/יִּקָּחֵֽ/הוּ
¶ And Dauid said to Saul, Let no mans heart faile, because of him: thy seruant will goe and fight with this Philistine.
GenevaSo Dauid saide to Saul, Let no mans heart faile him, because of him: thy seruant wil goe, and fight with this Philistim.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל שָׁא֔וּל אַל יִפֹּ֥ל לֵב אָדָ֖ם עָלָ֑י/ו עַבְדְּ/ךָ֣ יֵלֵ֔ךְ וְ/נִלְחַ֖ם עִם הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֥י הַ/זֶּֽה
And Saul said to Dauid, Thou art not able to goe against this Philistine, to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of warre from his youth.
GenevaAnd Saul sayde to Dauid, Thou art not able to goe against this Philistim to fight with him: for thou art a boye, and he is a man of warre from his youth.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל אֶל דָּוִ֗ד לֹ֤א תוּכַל֙ לָ/לֶ֨כֶת֙ אֶל הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֣י הַ/זֶּ֔ה לְ/הִלָּחֵ֖ם עִמּ֑/וֹ כִּֽי נַ֣עַר אַ֔תָּה וְ/ה֛וּא אִ֥ישׁ מִלְחָמָ֖ה מִ/נְּעֻרָֽי/ו
And Dauid said vnto Saul, Thy seruant kept his fathers sheepe, and there came a Lyon, and a Beare, and tooke a lambe out of the flocke:
GenevaAnd Dauid answered vnto Saul, Thy seruant kept his fathers sheepe, and there came a lyon, and likewise a beare, and tooke a sheepe out of the flocke,
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל שָׁא֔וּל רֹעֶ֨ה הָיָ֧ה עַבְדְּ/ךָ֛ לְ/אָבִ֖י/ו בַּ/צֹּ֑אן וּ/בָ֤א הָֽ/אֲרִי֙ וְ/אֶת הַ/דּ֔וֹב וְ/נָשָׂ֥א שֶׂ֖ה מֵ/הָ/עֵֽדֶר
And I went out after him, and smote him, and deliuered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.

וְ/יָצָ֧אתִי אַחֲרָ֛י/ו וְ/הִכִּתִ֖י/ו וְ/הִצַּ֣לְתִּי מִ/פִּ֑י/ו וַ/יָּ֣קָם עָלַ֔/י וְ/הֶחֱזַ֨קְתִּי֙ בִּ/זְקָנ֔/וֹ וְ/הִכִּתִ֖י/ו וַ/הֲמִיתִּֽי/ו
Thy seruant slew both the Lyon and the Beare: and this vncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the liuing God.
GenevaSo thy seruaunt slue both the lyon, and the beare: therefore this vncircumcised Philistim shall be as one of them, seeing hee hath railed on the hoste of the liuing God.
גַּ֧ם אֶֽת הָ/אֲרִ֛י גַּם הַ/דּ֖וֹב הִכָּ֣ה עַבְדֶּ֑/ךָ וְֽ֠/הָיָה הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֨י הֶ/עָרֵ֤ל הַ/זֶּה֙ כְּ/אַחַ֣ד מֵ/הֶ֔ם כִּ֣י חֵרֵ֔ף מַעַרְכֹ֖ת אֱלֹהִ֥ים חַיִּֽים
Dauid saide moreouer, The LORD that deliuered me out of the paw of the Lyon, and out of the pawe of the Beare, he will deliuer me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said vnto Dauid, Goe, and the LORD be with thee.

וַ/יֹּאמֶר֮ דָּוִד֒ יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִצִּלַ֜/נִי מִ/יַּ֤ד הָֽ/אֲרִי֙ וּ/מִ/יַּ֣ד הַ/דֹּ֔ב ה֣וּא יַצִּילֵ֔/נִי מִ/יַּ֥ד הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י הַ/זֶּ֑ה וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֤וּל אֶל דָּוִד֙ לֵ֔ךְ וַֽ/יהוָ֖ה יִהְיֶ֥ה עִמָּֽ/ךְ
¶ And Saul armed Dauid with his armour, and hee put an helmet of brasse vpon his head, also he armed him with a coat of male.
GenevaAnd Saul put his rayment vpon Dauid, and put an helmet of brasse vpon his head, and put a brigandine vpon him.
וַ/יַּלְבֵּ֨שׁ שָׁא֤וּל אֶת דָּוִד֙ מַדָּ֔י/ו וְ/נָתַ֛ן ק֥וֹבַע נְחֹ֖שֶׁת עַל רֹאשׁ֑/וֹ וַ/יַּלְבֵּ֥שׁ אֹת֖/וֹ שִׁרְיֽוֹן
And Dauid girded his sword vpon his armour, and he assayed to goe, for he had not proued it: and Dauid said vnto Saul, I cannot goe with these: for I haue not proued them. And Dauid put them off him.

וַ/יַּחְגֹּ֣ר דָּוִ֣ד אֶת חַ֠רְבּ/וֹ מֵ/עַ֨ל לְ/מַדָּ֜י/ו וַ/יֹּ֣אֶל לָ/לֶכֶת֮ כִּ֣י לֹֽא נִסָּה֒ וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד אֶל שָׁא֗וּל לֹ֥א אוּכַ֛ל לָ/לֶ֥כֶת בָּ/אֵ֖לֶּה כִּ֣י לֹ֣א נִסִּ֑יתִי וַ/יְסִרֵ֥/ם דָּוִ֖ד מֵ/עָלָֽי/ו
And hee tooke his staffe in his hand, and chose him fiue smoothe stones out of the brooke, and put them in a shepheards bag which he had, euen in a scrip, and his sling was in his hande, and he drew neere to the Philistine.

And the Philistine came on and drew neere vnto Dauid, and the man that bare the shield, went before him.

וַ/יֵּ֨לֶךְ֙ הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י הֹלֵ֥ךְ וְ/קָרֵ֖ב אֶל דָּוִ֑ד וְ/הָ/אִ֛ישׁ נֹשֵׂ֥א הַ/צִּנָּ֖ה לְ/פָנָֽי/ו
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw Dauid, hee disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a faire countenance.

וַ/יַּבֵּ֧ט הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י וַ/יִּרְאֶ֥ה אֶת דָּוִ֖ד וַ/יִּבְזֵ֑/הוּ כִּֽי הָיָ֣ה נַ֔עַר וְ/אַדְמֹנִ֖י עִם יְפֵ֥ה מַרְאֶֽה
And the Philistine said vnto Dauid, Am I a dog, that thou commest to me with staues? and the Philistine cursed Dauid by his gods.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ אֶל דָּוִ֔ד הֲ/כֶ֣לֶב אָנֹ֔כִי כִּֽי אַתָּ֥ה בָֽא אֵלַ֖/י בַּ/מַּקְל֑וֹת וַ/יְקַלֵּ֧ל הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י אֶת דָּוִ֖ד בֵּ/אלֹהָֽי/ו
And the Philistine said to Dauid, Come to me, and I will giue thy flesh vnto the foules of the aire, and to the beasts of the field.

וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י אֶל דָּוִ֑ד לְכָ֣/ה אֵלַ֔/י וְ/אֶתְּנָה֙ אֶת בְּשָׂ֣רְ/ךָ֔ לְ/ע֥וֹף הַ/שָּׁמַ֖יִם וּ/לְ/בֶהֱמַ֥ת הַ/שָּׂדֶֽה
Then said Dauid to the Philistine, Thou commest to mee with a sword, and with a speare, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the Name of the LORD of hostes, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אַתָּה֙ בָּ֣א אֵלַ֔/י בְּ/חֶ֖רֶב וּ/בַ/חֲנִ֣ית וּ/בְ/כִיד֑וֹן וְ/אָנֹכִ֣י בָֽא אֵלֶ֗י/ךָ בְּ/שֵׁם֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֛י מַעַרְכ֥וֹת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר חֵרַֽפְתָּ
This day wil the LORD deliuer thee into mine hand, and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee, and I wil giue the carkeises of the host of the Philistines this day vnto the foules of the aire, and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.

הַ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/זֶּ֡ה יְסַגֶּרְ/ךָ֩ יְהוָ֨ה בְּ/יָדִ֜/י וְ/הִכִּיתִ֗/ךָ וַ/הֲסִרֹתִ֤י אֶת רֹֽאשְׁ/ךָ֙ מֵ/עָלֶ֔י/ךָ וְ/נָ֨תַתִּ֜י פֶּ֣גֶר מַחֲנֵ֤ה פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ הַ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/זֶּ֔ה לְ/ע֥וֹף הַ/שָּׁמַ֖יִם וּ/לְ/חַיַּ֣ת הָ/אָ֑רֶץ וְ/יֵֽדְעוּ֙ כָּל הָ/אָ֔רֶץ כִּ֛י יֵ֥שׁ אֱלֹהִ֖ים לְ/יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
And all this assembly shal know that the LORD saueth not with sword & speare (for the battell is the LORDs ) and he will giue you into our hands.
GenevaAnd that all this assembly may know, that the Lord saueth not with sworde nor with speare (for the battel is the Lords) and he will giue you into our handes.
וְ/יֵֽדְעוּ֙ כָּל הַ/קָּהָ֣ל הַ/זֶּ֔ה כִּֽי לֹ֛א בְּ/חֶ֥רֶב וּ/בַ/חֲנִ֖ית יְהוֹשִׁ֣יעַ יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֤י לַֽ/יהוָה֙ הַ/מִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְ/נָתַ֥ן אֶתְ/כֶ֖ם בְּ/יָדֵֽ/נוּ
And it came to passe when the Philistine arose, and came, and drewe nigh to meet Dauid, that Dauid hasted, and ran toward the armie to meete the Philistine.
GenevaAnd when the Philistim arose to come and drawe neere vnto Dauid, Dauid hasted and ran to fight against the Philistim.
וְ/הָיָה֙ כִּֽי קָ֣ם הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַ/יֵּ֥לֶךְ וַ/יִּקְרַ֖ב לִ/קְרַ֣את דָּוִ֑ד וַ/יְמַהֵ֣ר דָּוִ֔ד וַ/יָּ֥רָץ הַ/מַּעֲרָכָ֖ה לִ/קְרַ֥את הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּֽי
And Dauid put his hande in his bag, and tooke thence a stone, and slang it, & smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunke into his forehead, and he fell vpon his face to the earth.

וַ/יִּשְׁלַח֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶת יָד֜/וֹ אֶל הַ/כֶּ֗לִי וַ/יִּקַּ֨ח מִ/שָּׁ֥ם אֶ֨בֶן֙ וַ/יְקַלַּ֔ע וַ/יַּ֥ךְ אֶת הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י אֶל מִצְח֑/וֹ וַ/תִּטְבַּ֤ע הָ/אֶ֨בֶן֙ בְּ/מִצְח֔/וֹ וַ/יִּפֹּ֥ל עַל פָּנָ֖י/ו אָֽרְצָ/ה
So Dauid preuailed ouer the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him, but there was no sword in the hande of Dauid.
GenevaSo Dauid ouercame the Philistim with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistim, and slew him, when Dauid had no sword in his hand.
וַ/יֶּחֱזַ֨ק דָּוִ֤ד מִן הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ בַּ/קֶּ֣לַע וּ/בָ/אֶ֔בֶן וַ/יַּ֥ךְ אֶת הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י וַ/יְמִיתֵ֑/הוּ וְ/חֶ֖רֶב אֵ֥ין בְּ/יַד דָּוִֽד
Therefore Dauid ran and stood vpon the Philistine, and tooke his sword, and drewe it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines sawe their champion was dead, they fled.

וַ/יָּ֣רָץ דָּ֠וִד וַ/יַּעֲמֹ֨ד אֶל הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֜י וַ/יִּקַּ֣ח אֶת חַ֠רְבּ/וֹ וַֽ/יִּשְׁלְפָ֤/הּ מִ/תַּעְרָ/הּ֙ וַ/יְמֹ֣תְתֵ֔/הוּ וַ/יִּכְרָת בָּ֖/הּ אֶת רֹאשׁ֑/וֹ וַ/יִּרְא֧וּ הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֛ים כִּֽי מֵ֥ת גִּבּוֹרָ֖/ם וַ/יָּנֻֽסוּ
And the men of Israel, and of Iudah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, vntill thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron: and the wounded of the Philistines fell downe by the way to Shaaraim, euen vnto Gath, and vnto Ekron.

וַ/יָּקֻ֣מוּ אַנְשֵׁי֩ יִשְׂרָאֵ֨ל וִ/יהוּדָ֜ה וַ/יָּרִ֗עוּ וַֽ/יִּרְדְּפוּ֙ אֶת הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים עַד בּוֹאֲ/ךָ֣ גַ֔יְא וְ/עַ֖ד שַׁעֲרֵ֣י עֶקְר֑וֹן וַֽ/יִּפְּל֞וּ חַֽלְלֵ֤י פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ בְּ/דֶ֣רֶךְ שַׁעֲרַ֔יִם וְ/עַד גַּ֖ת וְ/עַד עֶקְרֽוֹן
And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.

And Dauid tooke the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Ierusalem, but he put his armour in his tent.

¶ And when Saul sawe Dauid goe forth against the Philistine, he sayd vnto Abner the captaine of the hoste, Abner, whose sonne is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soule liueth, O king, I cannot tell.

וְ/כִ/רְא֨וֹת שָׁא֜וּל אֶת דָּוִ֗ד יֹצֵא֙ לִ/קְרַ֣את הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י אָמַ֗ר אֶל אַבְנֵר֙ שַׂ֣ר הַ/צָּבָ֔א בֶּן מִי זֶ֥ה הַ/נַּ֖עַר אַבְנֵ֑ר וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אַבְנֵ֔ר חֵֽי נַפְשְׁ/ךָ֥ הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ אִם יָדָֽעְתִּי
And the king said, Enquire thou whose sonne the stripling is.
GenevaThen the King sayde, Enquire thou whose sonne this yong man is.
וַ/יֹּ֖אמֶר הַ/מֶּ֑לֶךְ שְׁאַ֣ל אַתָּ֔ה בֶּן מִי זֶ֖ה הָ/עָֽלֶם
And as Dauid returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner tooke him, & brought him before Saul, with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
GenevaAnd when Dauid was returned from the slaughter of the Philistim, then Abner tooke him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistim in his hand.
וּ/כְ/שׁ֣וּב דָּוִ֗ד מֵֽ/הַכּוֹת֙ אֶת הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י וַ/יִּקַּ֤ח אֹת/וֹ֙ אַבְנֵ֔ר וַ/יְבִאֵ֖/הוּ לִ/פְנֵ֣י שָׁא֑וּל וְ/רֹ֥אשׁ הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י בְּ/יָדֽ/וֹ
And Saul saide to him, Whose sonne art thou, thou yong man? And Dauid answered, I am the sonne of thy seruant Iesse, the Bethlehemite.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָי/ו֙ שָׁא֔וּל בֶּן מִ֥י אַתָּ֖ה הַ/נָּ֑עַר וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד בֶּֽן עַבְדְּ/ךָ֥ יִשַׁ֖י בֵּ֥ית הַלַּחְמִֽי
