1 Samuel 13
Saul reigned one yeere, and when he had reigned two yeeres ouer Israel,
GenevaSaul nowe had beene King one yeere, and he reigned two yeeres ouer Israel.
בֶּן שָׁנָ֖ה שָׁא֣וּל בְּ/מָלְכ֑/וֹ וּ/שְׁתֵּ֣י שָׁנִ֔ים מָלַ֖ךְ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel: whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash, and in mount Bethel, and a thousand were with Ionathan in Gibeah of Beniamin: and the rest of the people he sent euery man to his tent.
GenevaThen Saul chose him three thousand of Israel: and two thousande were with Saul in Michmash, and in mount Beth-el, and a thousande were with Ionathan in Gibeah of Beniamin: and the rest of the people he sent euery one to his tent.
וַ/יִּבְחַר ל֨/וֹ שָׁא֜וּל שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת אֲלָפִים֮ מִ/יִּשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַ/יִּהְי֨וּ עִם שָׁא֜וּל אַלְפַּ֗יִם בְּ/מִכְמָשׂ֙ וּ/בְ/הַ֣ר בֵּֽית אֵ֔ל וְ/אֶ֗לֶף הָיוּ֙ עִם י֣וֹנָתָ֔ן בְּ/גִבְעַ֖ת בִּנְיָמִ֑ין וְ/יֶ֣תֶר הָ/עָ֔ם שִׁלַּ֖ח אִ֥ישׁ לְ/אֹהָלָֽי/ו
And Ionathan smote the garison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it: and Saul blew the trumpet thorowout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrewes heare.
GenevaAnd Ionathan smote the garison of the Philistims, that was in the hill: and it came to the Philistims eares: and Saul blewe the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Heare, O yee Ebrewes.
וַ/יַּ֣ךְ יוֹנָתָ֗ן אֵ֣ת נְצִ֤יב פְּלִשְׁתִּים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּ/גֶ֔בַע וַֽ/יִּשְׁמְע֖וּ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וְ/שָׁאוּל֩ תָּקַ֨ע בַּ/שּׁוֹפָ֤ר בְּ/כָל הָ/אָ֨רֶץ֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר יִשְׁמְע֖וּ הָ/עִבְרִֽים
And all Israel heard say, that Saul had smitten a garison of the Philistines, and that Israel also was had in abomination with the Philistines: and the people were called together after Saul to Gilgal.
GenevaAnd al Israel heard say, Saul hath destroied a garison of the Philistims: wherefore Israel was had in abomination with the Philistims: and the people gathered together after Saul to Gilgal.
וְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֞ל שָׁמְע֣וּ לֵ/אמֹ֗ר הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ אֶת נְצִ֣יב פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וְ/גַם נִבְאַשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַ/יִּצָּעֲק֥וּ הָ/עָ֛ם אַחֲרֵ֥י שָׁא֖וּל הַ/גִּלְגָּֽל
¶ And the Philistines gathered themselues together, to fight with Israel, thirtie thousand charets, and sixe thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude, and they came vp, and pitched in Michmash, Eastward from Bethauen.
GenevaThe Philistims also gathered themselues together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand charets, and sixe thousande horsemen: for the people was like the sand which is by the seas side in multitude, and came vp, and pitched in Michmash Eastward from Beth-auen.
וּ/פְלִשְׁתִּ֞ים נֶאֶסְפ֣וּ לְ/הִלָּחֵ֣ם עִם יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים אֶ֤לֶף רֶ֨כֶב֙ וְ/שֵׁ֤שֶׁת אֲלָפִים֙ פָּרָשִׁ֔ים וְ/עָ֕ם כַּ/ח֛וֹל אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל שְׂפַֽת הַ/יָּ֖ם לָ/רֹ֑ב וַֽ/יַּעֲלוּ֙ וַ/יַּחֲנ֣וּ בְ/מִכְמָ֔שׂ קִדְמַ֖ת בֵּ֥ית אָֽוֶן
When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait: (for the people were distressed:) then the people did hide themselues in caues, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.
GenevaAnd when the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were in distresse) the people hid themselues in caues, and in holdes, and in rockes, and in towres, and in pittes.
וְ/אִ֨ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל רָאוּ֙ כִּ֣י צַר ל֔/וֹ כִּ֥י נִגַּ֖שׂ הָ/עָ֑ם וַ/יִּֽתְחַבְּא֣וּ הָ/עָ֗ם בַּ/מְּעָר֤וֹת וּ/בַֽ/חֲוָחִים֙ וּ/בַ/סְּלָעִ֔ים וּ/בַ/צְּרִחִ֖ים וּ/בַ/בֹּרֽוֹת
And some of the Hebrewes went ouer Iordane, to the land of Gad and Gilead; as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
GenevaAnd some of the Ebrewes went ouer Iorden vnto the lande of Gad and Gilead: and Saul was yet in Gilgal, and al the people for feare followed him.
וְ/עִבְרִ֗ים עָֽבְרוּ֙ אֶת הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֔ן אֶ֥רֶץ גָּ֖ד וְ/גִלְעָ֑ד וְ/שָׁאוּל֙ עוֹדֶ֣/נּוּ בַ/גִּלְגָּ֔ל וְ/כָל הָ/עָ֖ם חָרְד֥וּ אַחֲרָֽי/ו
¶ And he taried seuen dayes, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal, and the people were scattered from him.
GenevaAnd he taried seuen daies, according vnto the time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal, therefore the people were scattered from him.
ו/ייחל שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֗ים לַ/מּוֹעֵד֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל וְ/לֹא בָ֥א שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל הַ/גִּלְגָּ֑ל וַ/יָּ֥פֶץ הָ/עָ֖ם מֵ/עָלָֽי/ו
And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offring to me, and peace offrings. And he offered the burnt offering.
GenevaAnd Saul sayde, Bring a burnt offering to me and peace offrings: and he offered a burnt offering.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֔וּל הַגִּ֣שׁוּ אֵלַ֔/י הָ/עֹלָ֖ה וְ/הַ/שְּׁלָמִ֑ים וַ/יַּ֖עַל הָ/עֹלָֽה
And it came to passe that assoone as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came, and Saul went out to meete him, that he might salute him.
GenevaAnd assoone as hee had made an ende of offering the burnt offering, beholde, Samuel came: and Saul went foorth to meete him, to salute him.
וַ/יְהִ֗י כְּ/כַלֹּת/וֹ֙ לְ/הַעֲל֣וֹת הָ/עֹלָ֔ה וְ/הִנֵּ֥ה שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בָּ֑א וַ/יֵּצֵ֥א שָׁא֛וּל לִ/קְרָאת֖/וֹ לְ/בָרֲכֽ/וֹ
¶ And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I sawe that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the dayes appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselues together to Michmash:
GenevaAnd Samuel saide, What hast thou done? Then Saul saide, Because I sawe that the people was scattred from me, and that thou camest not within the daies appoynted, and that the Philistims gathered themselues together to Michmash,
וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֑יתָ וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר שָׁא֡וּל כִּֽי רָאִיתִי֩ כִֽי נָפַ֨ץ הָ/עָ֜ם מֵ/עָלַ֗/י וְ/אַתָּה֙ לֹא בָ֨אתָ֙ לְ/מוֹעֵ֣ד הַ/יָּמִ֔ים וּ/פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים נֶאֱסָפִ֥ים מִכְמָֽשׂ
Therfore said I, The Philistines will come downe now vpon me to Gilgal, and I haue not made supplication vnto the LORD: I forced my selfe therefore, and offered a burnt offering.
GenevaTherefore said I, The Philistims will come downe nowe vpon me to Gilgal, and I haue not made supplication vnto the Lord. I was bolde therefore and offred a burnt offring.
וָ/אֹמַ֗ר עַ֠תָּה יֵרְד֨וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֤ים אֵלַ/י֙ הַ/גִּלְגָּ֔ל וּ/פְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לֹ֣א חִלִּ֑יתִי וָֽ/אֶתְאַפַּ֔ק וָ/אַעֲלֶ֖ה הָ/עֹלָֽה
And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandement of the LORD thy God, which hee commanded thee: for now would the LORD haue established thy kingdome vpon Israel for euer.
GenevaAnd Samuel saide to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandement of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for the Lord had nowe stablished thy kingdome vpon Israel for euer.
וַ/יֹּ֧אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֛ל אֶל שָׁא֖וּל נִסְכָּ֑לְתָּ לֹ֣א שָׁמַ֗רְתָּ אֶת מִצְוַ֞ת יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨י/ךָ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֔/ךְ כִּ֣י עַתָּ֗ה הֵכִ֨ין יְהוָ֧ה אֶת מַֽמְלַכְתְּ/ךָ֛ אֶל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַד עוֹלָֽם
But now thy kingdome shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his owne heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to bee captaine ouer his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.
GenevaBut nowe thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his owne heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be gouernour ouer his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord had commanded thee.
וְ/עַתָּ֖ה מַמְלַכְתְּ/ךָ֣ לֹא תָק֑וּם בִּקֵּשׁ֩ יְהוָ֨ה ל֜/וֹ אִ֣ישׁ כִּ/לְבָב֗/וֹ וַ/יְצַוֵּ֨/הוּ יְהוָ֤ה לְ/נָגִיד֙ עַל עַמּ֔/וֹ כִּ֚י לֹ֣א שָׁמַ֔רְתָּ אֵ֥ת אֲשֶֽׁר צִוְּ/ךָ֖ יְהוָֽה
And Samuel arose, and gate him vp from Gilgal, vnto Gibeah of Beniamin, and Saul numbred the people that were present with him, about sixe hundred men.
GenevaAnd Samuel arose, and gate him vp from Gilgal in Gibeah of Beniamin: and Saul nombred the people that were found with him, about sixe hundreth men.
וַ/יָּ֣קָם שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל וַ/יַּ֛עַל מִן הַ/גִּלְגָּ֖ל גִּבְעַ֣ת בִּנְיָמִ֑ן וַ/יִּפְקֹ֣ד שָׁא֗וּל אֶת הָ/עָם֙ הַ/נִּמְצְאִ֣ים עִמּ֔/וֹ כְּ/שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת אִֽישׁ
And Saul and Ionathan his sonne, and the people that were present with them, abode in Gibeah of Beniamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash.
GenevaAnd Saul and Ionathan his sonne, and the people that were found with them, had their abiding in Gibeah of Beniamin: but the Philistims pitched in Michmash.
וְ/שָׁא֞וּל וְ/יוֹנָתָ֣ן בְּנ֗/וֹ וְ/הָ/עָם֙ הַ/נִּמְצָ֣א עִמָּ֔/ם יֹשְׁבִ֖ים בְּ/גֶ֣בַע בִּנְיָמִ֑ן וּ/פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים חָנ֥וּ בְ/מִכְמָֽשׂ
¶ And the spoilers came out of the campe of the Philistines, in three companies: one company turned vnto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, vnto the land of Shual.
GenevaAnd there came out of the hoste of the Philistims three bandes to destroie, one bande turned vnto the way of Ophrah vnto the lande of Shual,
וַ/יֵּצֵ֧א הַ/מַּשְׁחִ֛ית מִ/מַּחֲנֵ֥ה פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה רָאשִׁ֑ים הָ/רֹ֨אשׁ אֶחָ֥ד יִפְנֶ֛ה אֶל דֶּ֥רֶךְ עָפְרָ֖ה אֶל אֶ֥רֶץ שׁוּעָֽל
And another company turned the way to Bethoron: and another companie turned to the way of the border, that looketh to the valley of Zeboim toward the wildernesse.
GenevaAnd another bad turned toward the way to Beth-horon, and the third band turned toward the way of the coast that looketh toward the valley of Zeboim, towarde the wildernesse.
וְ/הָ/רֹ֤אשׁ אֶחָד֙ יִפְנֶ֔ה דֶּ֖רֶךְ בֵּ֣ית חֹר֑וֹן וְ/הָ/רֹ֨אשׁ אֶחָ֤ד יִפְנֶה֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַ/גְּב֔וּל הַ/נִּשְׁקָ֛ף עַל גֵּ֥י הַצְּבֹעִ֖ים הַ/מִּדְבָּֽרָ/ה
¶ Now there was no smith found thorowout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrewes make them swords or speares.
GenevaThen there was no smith founde throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistims sayde, Lest the Ebrewes make them swordes or speares.
וְ/חָרָשׁ֙ לֹ֣א יִמָּצֵ֔א בְּ/כֹ֖ל אֶ֣רֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּֽי אמר פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים פֶּ֚ן יַעֲשׂ֣וּ הָ/עִבְרִ֔ים חֶ֖רֶב א֥וֹ חֲנִֽית
But all the Israelites went downe to the Philistines, to sharpen euery man his share and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattocke.
GenevaWherefore all ye Israelites went downe to the Philistims, to sharpen euery man his share, his mattocke, and his axe, and his weeding hooke.
וַ/יֵּרְד֥וּ כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הַ/פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים לִ֠/לְטוֹשׁ אִ֣ישׁ אֶת מַחֲרַשְׁתּ֤/וֹ וְ/אֶת אֵת/וֹ֙ וְ/אֶת קַרְדֻּמּ֔/וֹ וְ/אֵ֖ת מַחֲרֵשָׁתֽ/וֹ
Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forkes, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads.
GenevaYet they had a file for the shares, and for the mattockes, and for the picke forkes, and for the axes, and for to sharpen the goades.
וְֽ/הָיְתָ֞ה הַ/פְּצִ֣ירָה פִ֗ים לַ/מַּֽחֲרֵשֹׁת֙ וְ/לָ֣/אֵתִ֔ים וְ/לִ/שְׁלֹ֥שׁ קִלְּשׁ֖וֹן וּ/לְ/הַ/קַּרְדֻּמִּ֑ים וּ/לְ/הַצִּ֖יב הַ/דָּרְבָֽן
So it came to passe in the day of battell, that there was neither sword nor speare found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Ionathan: but with Saul & with Ionathan his sonne was there found.
GenevaSo whe the day of battell was come, there was neither sworde nor speare founde in the handes of any of the people that were with Saul and with Ionathan: but onely with Saul and Ionathan his sonne was there founde.
וְ/הָיָה֙ בְּ/י֣וֹם מִלְחֶ֔מֶת וְ/לֹ֨א נִמְצָ֜א חֶ֤רֶב וַ/חֲנִית֙ בְּ/יַ֣ד כָּל הָ/עָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֶת שָׁא֖וּל וְ/אֶת יוֹנָתָ֑ן וַ/תִּמָּצֵ֣א לְ/שָׁא֔וּל וּ/לְ/יוֹנָתָ֖ן בְּנֽ/וֹ
And the garison of the Philistines went out to the passage of Michmash.
GenevaAnd the garison of the Philistims came out to the passage of Michmash.
וַ/יֵּצֵא֙ מַצַּ֣ב פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים אֶֽל מַעֲבַ֖ר מִכְמָֽשׂ
