Chapter 13
1 Corinthians 13
Though I speake with the tongues of men & of Angels, and haue not charity, I am become as sounding brasse or a tinkling cymbal.
GenevaThough I speake with the tongues of men and Angels, and haue not loue, I am as sounding brasse, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I haue the gift of prophesie, and vnderstand all mysteries and all knowledge: and though I haue all faith, so that I could remooue mountaines, and haue no charitie, I am nothing.
GenevaAnd though I had the gift of prophecie, and knewe all secrets and all knowledge, yea, if I had all faith, so that I could remooue mountaines and had not loue, I were nothing.
And though I bestowe all my goods to feede the poore, and though I giue my body to bee burned, and haue not charitie, it profiteth me nothing.
GenevaAnd though I feede the poore with all my goods, and though I giue my body, that I be burned, and haue not loue, it profiteth me nothing.
Charitie suffereth long, and is kinde: charitie enuieth not: charitie vaunteth not it selfe, is not puffed vp,
GenevaLoue suffreth long: it is bountifull: loue enuieth not: loue doeth not boast it selfe: it is not puffed vp:
Doeth not behaue it selfe vnseemly, seeketh not her owne, is not easily prouoked, thinketh no euill,
GenevaIt doeth no vncomely thing: it seeketh not her owne things: it is not prouoked to anger: it thinketh not euill:
Reioyceth not in iniquitie, but reioyceth in the trueth:
GenevaIt reioyceth not in iniquitie, but reioyceth in the trueth:
Beareth all things, beleeueth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
GenevaIt suffreth all things: it beleeueth all things: it hopeth all things: it endureth all things.
Charitie neuer faileth: but whether there be prophesies, they shall faile; whether there bee tongues, they shall cease; whether there bee knowledge, it shall vanish away.
GenevaLoue doeth neuer fall away, though that prophecyings be abolished, or the tongues cease, or knowledge vanish away.
For we know in part, and we prophesie in part.
GenevaFor we knowe in part, and we prophecie in part.
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part, shalbe done away.
GenevaBut when that which is perfect, is come, then that which is in part, shalbe abolished.
When I was a childe, I spake as a childe, I vnderstood as a childe, I thought as a childe: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
GenevaWhen I was a childe, I spake as a childe, I vnderstoode as a childe, I thought as a childe: but when I became a man, I put away childish thinges.
For now we see through a glasse, darkely: but then face to face: now I know in part, but then shall I know euen as also I am knowen.
GenevaFor nowe we see through a glasse darkely: but then shall wee see face to face. Nowe I know in part: but then shall I know euen as I am knowen.
And now abideth faith, hope, charitie, these three, but the greatest of these is charitie.
GenevaAnd nowe abideth faith, hope and loue, euen these three: but the chiefest of these is loue.
